Tribute to a Friend
People are just stupid.
They muddle through worthless lives
Caked in their own rotting shit.
They whine and snivel
And try to drag others down.
Trouble is, there's nowhere to go.
Everyone’s already hit bottom.
They worship the darkness and curse the light
And spat at truth when they find it,
But they swear up and down with filthy lying tongues
That they are God-loving creatures striving for enlightenment.
They know nothing of love, honor, respect, or responsibility;
Of the natural order of things,
But in their swollen egos,
They think they do.
They talk about humanity and curse
Those poor Native savages who had none.
Yes, what a pity the red-skins refused to see the light
Of our eternal, ever-loving and benevolent God
(Who might send you to hell if you sneeze during church.)
What a slap in the face it was,
To realize that light does not always win.
Many times evil has triumphed over good;
Ignorance over wisdom,
Fear over love.
But…
…is this the end?
The old ways are still alive;
The savages have passed their hearts to us.
Look what we are fighting against.
A host of enemies;
It is a tide that threatens to sweep us away,
A demon that tries to imprison our souls;
A cloak that falls over our eyes and smothers our breath
As we try to walk the path of freedom.
It is a cruel wind that always blows,
Trying to snatch us from the razor’s edge.
There is little shelter in this desert world of human existence;
Little sustenance for the soul and little hope.
Mr. Hodgin succumbed to the tide;
The demon, the cloak and the wind…
But I will not.
Anger and pain must be turned to strength.
There are countless others still fighting.
We are a family of warriors,
And we fight with courage because if we lose,
Life will not be worth living.
Maybe that’s what he thought-
That we had already lost.
But I believe – I must believe –
That there is still a reason to fight.
Shuna.
