<--- USA in 1983
USA in 2006 ---> |

USA was formed in 1982. The band was initially inspired by the Velvet Underground, a proto-punk band from the mid sixties fronted by Lou Reed. USA recorded one full length album and one EP over two years before taking a 12 year hiatus. Reunited in 1996, USA recorded a third CD titled OFFICE over a 10-year period. OFFICE was finally released in 2007 and is now available on Brain Damage Records. The name USA isn't a political statement. When the band first got together they simply wanted the most grandiose name possible. Only a bold band would assume the name 'USA' straight up. They could have called themselves something like 'USA Punks' or 'Screaming USA' but that wouldn't have been big enough or minimalist enough for this band. Who is (or was) in USA: Jack Schitt - guitar, bass, vocals F Scott - keyboards, vocals, percussion, guitar L² - bass, vocals Harold X - drums? Roland - drums? You can not see USA play live. The band hasn't performed a live show since 1983 and has no plans to do so. But you can hear USA. Recordings by USA are available for sale through Brain Damage Records. USA cranks out a high-energy garage sound somewhere between punk and hardcore. Most songs have a raw, abrasive sound played at a frenetic tempo. USA's first album involved rhythms beaten out on a metal shelf with music in the key of feedback. USA uses many unorthodox techniques - such as screeching discordant guitar parts overlaid with smooth three-part vocal harmonies. One audiophile described the USA sound as "anti-music," another as "Greenday meets Godzilla." Guitarist Jack Schitt called it "trance metal." Basically, it's insane chaos. The lyrics to USA songs match the music - harsh, acerbic, scathing, crude, occasionally silly. Just don't expect anything uplifting... USA has something negative to say on just about every topic: cars, bosses, wealth, women, fast food, even Christmas! All USA songs have one word song titles. USA has made three different recordings, each in a unique style. Our first recording, simply titled ALBUM, was released in 1983 and contained 13 songs, each more blistering than the one before. Our second release was a 1984 EP titled LIFE that had 8 songs describing the nasty, short, and brutish life of a troubled kid named Johnny Dough. USA was inactive for the next 12 years, but the band reunited in 1996 to begin recording our finest CD ever, titled OFFICE - 11 songs decrying evil characters in the workplace. It took 10 years to get all of that rage and fury recorded, but OFFICE proves that the band hasn't lost any of its musical ferocity. |
Here are lyrics to "Loyalty" from the CD OFFICE: Welcome to our corporate family I take care of you, you look out for me What matters here isn't productivity It's all about your personal loyalty Feudalism stills lives at this company You don't work for the firm, you work for me You're just a serf, while I'm royalty Be content to work in anonymity Attribute every good thing that you do to me My success or failure is your destiny I'll reward you based upon your loyalty Everything you ever do, you'll do for me You don't work for yourself, you work for me And your career depends upon your loyalty There are people trying to get rid of me Assume that everybody is our enemy My downfall would be your own catastrophe Your paycheck depends upon your loyalty And anyone who betrays will be a casualty You don't work here at all unless you work for me And you can be replaced, so show me loyalty (P) 2000 F. S. Whipple (USA) Wanna hear some of our music? Stormpages.com won't let us upload large files, but you can get a free sample of our song Greed, from our latest album OFFICE on the featured CDs page at Brain Damage Records. Rage against everything, because everything sucks. |
