IT'S RAINING!!! I always like the rain, I like the way it smells and sounds. Today I really like it. I can't even remember the last time it's rained here. It's been hot, and humid and everything is so dry. Everyone's lawns are burnt up and gardens aren't even growing. It's been too hot to even go outside. So when I woke up this morning to the tapping of rain on the roof I immediately opened up all the windows to let the stale air out and all that crisp, fresh, rain air in! Ahhhh...who would have thought that a little rain could feel so...comfortable?!
I hate to do this, but I HAVE to share this joke I got in an email this morning (thanks Heather!), I laughed...I laughed so hard! It goes a little something like this:

A woman went to a pet shop and immediately spotted a large beautiful parrot. There was a sign on the cage that said $50.00.
"Why so little," she asked the pet store owner.
The owner looked at her and said, "Look, I should tell you first that this bird used to live in a house of prostitution, and sometimes it says some pretty vulgar stuff."
The woman thought about this, but decided she had to have the bird anyway. She took it home and hung the bird's cage up in her living room and waited for it to say something.
The bird looked around the room, then at her, and said, "New house, new madam." The woman was a bit shocked at the implication, but then thought "that's not so bad."
When her two tennage daughters returned from school the bird saw them and said, "New house, new madam, new girls." The girls and the woman were a bit offended but then began to laugh about the situation.
Moments later, the woman's husband, Keith, came home from work. The bird looked at him and said, "Hi Keith."

Why? Why? Why? Why? Any mother will tell you that it is a childs unspoken right to ask question after question. The childrens "Right to Ask" comes equipped with it's own list of rules, some of which are as follows:

  1. A child may ask questions at THEIR convenience, which is usually while you're on the phone, engrossed in a good book, or in the middle of a movie.
  2. A child has the right to demand an answer...one which doesn't include "I don't know", "Because I said so" or "Go ask your dad" in the answer.
  3. A child has a right to ask why more than once in one question. Example: "...and that is why it does that." This can (by the rules), and usually is followed with "but why"?
  4. If the answer to the question is "Because if you keep playing with it, it will fall off", the child has a right to act embarrassed and promise to never do it again (although they will!)
  5. A child may ask the same question day after day, and they have the right to argue the answer. (My advice on this is, give correct answers because they remember...which leads to "But that's not what you told me a when I asked you the same question at 7:15 p.m. on the second Saturday in June".) Geesh!

I've listed a couple of answers they may come in handy. I still need to look up this morning's question..."Why do your eyes fill with water when you yawn" I've appeased him for now, with the true answer of "Let me look it up on the internet"!!

Ugh!! What a night! It all started in the middle of dinner last night when the power went out. We had just received a letter in the mail earlier explaining that recent power outages were due to the fact that they were upgrading the power source, trimming trees, blah blah blah. Anyway...a power outage at 6:00 wasn't a big deal, the air conditioner had been on all afternoon and it was quite cool in here. By 7:00 it was getting a little warm so we all went outside where there was a little bit of a breeze. By 8:00 I was getting irratated! How dare we lose power on a "Big Brother" night...and an eviction night at that. By 8:30 Mark had called the power company they said the power outage was due to a power line being down...in the middle of a swamp. They said that the outage affected a 25 mile radius with 2500 customers being without power, but this morning I heard it was a lot more. (Keep in mind, this was one of the hottest, stickiest, most humid days of the summer) But, they assured him, the power SHOULD be back on by midnight! Midnight?!
We are a family accustomed to sleeping with fans (even the kids), so I knew getting to bed was going to be no easy task. They were not, in the least bit, amused by the thought of sitting around in the dark. By 9:00 the air was stagnate & sticky and with three un-bathed boys running around it was getting worse by the second! Thankfully Thomas fell asleep on the couch, almost in mid-conversation, due to the fact that he hadn't had a nap. Mark took Jackson into the steam room errrumm, I mean our room, and laid down with him until he fell asleep. I was left with the undertaking of getting Gabe to sleep. He whined, he cried, he bitched & moaned about the heat, but by 11:00 he was asleep. It was terrible. So with Thomas on one couch and Gabe on the other, I went to bed. Not ten minutes later Gabe was standing at the edge of my bed. "It's hot, it's dark, I can't see". So in he climbed. After about 40 minutes of laying there, in a pool of my own sweat, I got up. It was about 1 degree cooler in the living room so I tried sleeping on a couch in there...with no luck. Mark must've had the same idea because it wasn't long after that he came out and laid on the other couch. For me the couch seemed damp and scratchy so I finally just slept on the floor. Some time around 1:00 a.m. the power came back on. Mark got up to re-set clocks, close windows, and get into bed. I told him I would lay there "just long enough for the air conditioner to cool me off" and I would be in. When he got up for work this morning I was still in the livingroom, on the couch, cooled off--but very tired.
You can understand how a power outage in the middle of the day would be, understandably, uncomfortable. You would think that one in the middle of the night would go by unnoticed, but it didn't!! *Yawn* I'm going to go enjoy my running water and air conditioning. But not before I go check out what happened in the Big Brother House last night!
Here's some weblogs I read that I haven't taken the time to take out of my favorites and put into my daily reads list. Enjoy!!

It's a guy thing. I know it is, but I just don't get it. I probably never will. I've heard before that males have some kind of "sleep button". Apparently it's located right under the waistband of their uderwear. Touching this "button" while in a sitting position or laying down is sure to cause sleep.
Mark does it. Thomas and Gabe do it (especially while laying in front of t.v.). But this morning, I saw with my own eyes, my 1 1/2 year old doing it. I went in to check on him early this morning and there he laid, sound asleep in his crib. One hand comfortably behind his head...the other nestled in the top of his diaper!
A quick but very important message:

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MARK!! I LOVE YOU!!!
Yep...today we are celebrating four years of marital bliss! It seems like a lot longer! I don't mean that in a bad way, it's just that we were together for 10 years (with one child and one on the way) before we (I) decided to get married. I'm sure that getting married was the best decision I have ever made. He has taken care of me, supported me in my decisions, and always been there for me...in good times and in bad. I am one very lucky girl! ;)

Wow...it's the 17th already. Five days since my last entry. I am coming to understand why webloggers take the summer off. It's hard making daily entries in the summer. There's so much going on, lots to post about, but no time to do it.
Things on the homefront have been going pretty good. My boys seem to changing so much this summer. Thomas has turned from the little nerdy book-worm type into a quite an athletic boy. We took the training wheels off his bike last week and he's riding like he's been riding for years. In fact, he rides it like a little dare devil. He tries to cat-walk it, jumps off it while its still moving, and is desperate for someone to build him a ramp and show him how to jump. This has caused his grandma some major stress. She has fits watching him ride. Mark was the same way as a child and it makes her nervous to watch him. So much so that she went out and bought all the boys helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads (I know...they should've been wearing them all along-I'm a bad mom).
Gabe is quite athletic also. He rides his bike and scooter also, but claims that he's going to be a baseball player when he grows up. And he's got an arm on him. He hits his target everytime he throws (indoors or out). They love to play outside. Gabe will not keep his shirt on though. He goes outside dressed in shorts, shirt, and shoes and before you know it he just has shorts on. No shirt-no shoes (guess he won't get service haha that was too easy).
Then there's Jackson...my baby. He breaks my heart. He is begining to be such a toddler. In the past week he has started repeating everything (and I mean everything). I know this is normal, but it still breaks my heart. I have no more babies! They just grow up too darn fast! We're starting to potty train him. He's only a year and a half, but he takes an interest. I know it's kind of early, but if he wants to go I'm all for it. We have been buying diapers for way too long. If you wonder why this concerns me, check out Diaper Duty...it's something I came up with a while back that explains it better!
Only 5 more weeks until Thomas goes to Kindergarten! This is causing ME some stress. So much so that some nights I can't even sleep. I've finally come to a place where it's not the "letting him go" that bothers me, it's the school. Our town recently has made a "kindergarten center" and it's probably a ten minute drive from here. MY problem is this...the bus comes by here at 7:00 a.m. he would have to ride for an hour to the school in town, switch buses, and ride to the "center". I think that's too much for a five year old. So, I'll drive him. As much of a pain in the butt this will be, I can do it. My main concern is kindergarten is ALL day EVERY day. Now this creates problems. He is a child that still takes a nap. Still NEEDS a nap. He is so difficult when he doesn't take one! But, we're working on it. We've started letting him skip it in hopes that it will change before school starts. We'll see I guess. I have to send him...it is the law. Isn't it?
Mark's been working lots of over time and playing softball. He keeps himself busy one way or another. I have been...well I don't know what I've been doing that's kept me away. We're looking forward to another vacation before school starts...maybe to the upper peninsula but we're not sure. Anywhere is fine with me. Some quality family time is always appreciated!
That's about it for today...I'll leave you with:

What my hand writing says about me:
The lean of your sentence communicates your optimistic or pessimistic tendencies. Your lean indicates that:

"You are even-tempered and extremely reliable. You have control over your emotions, and you like rules. You should be a substitute teacher."

The spacing of your words communicates how well you get along with others. Your spacing indicates that:

"You are extroverted and spontaneous. You are at ease with people, but often times suffer from insecurity."

The loop of your "g's" communicates your attitudes toward sex. Your "g's" indicate that:

"You are clannish and selective of your friends and sexual partners. Why are you so uptight? Silly goose."

The bar height of your "t's" communicates your work ethic and ambition. Your "t's" indicate that:

"You are very precise. Organization is very important to you, and you use your self-control to get the job done. The Great Goosini does not want to mess with you."

The dots above your "i's" communicate your self-image. Your dots tell me that:

"You are careless and lack attention to detail. You can't even remember to dot your "i's"!"

"You are no doubt interested in learning tons of other things, from the practical to the bizarre."

All this wisdom and knowledge from the Great Goosini!

Hmmm...just in case the forementioned hooplala makes it impossible for me to post for a couple of days, I just wanted to let anyone who cares know that...I'll be back. (As soon Stormpages finishes their upgrades or whatever it is they're doing.) I really need to get my poop in a group and buy my own domain. So I'll see you all as soon as I can but until then:
A couple of weeks ago I told you all about my big "girls night out". It shames me to admit that I neglected to tell you that I, too, took part in the nonsense (and she has blackmail pictures to prove it). But, what I failed to mention then that I'm willing to mention now is the pure joy and satisfaction that she got out of "critiquing" all the brave souls that had the courage to get up and sing Karaoke. (As long as I'm confessing...the reason I didn't mention it earlier is, well, uhm...I wasn't sure how to spell Karaoke). Anyway, back to the point...Hmmm now what was the point? Oh yes. Her apparent distaste for the partakers and the whole karaoke thing in general had me wondering if maybe she just has insecurity issues. So I did some digging. She might feel better if she practiced Online Karaoke. I look forward to seeing you up there the next time we go out, Bay-bee!! (Let's make sure that's sometime BEFORE January 3, 2055!)

Aren't you proud of me? I posted an entire entry yesterday without even mentioning the fact that my addiction to reality television had been slightly satisfied by the return of Big Brother. Although I wasn't impressed with the first season, my curiosity got the best of me and I tuned in to see if the second season was more promising. Big Brother is definately not as good as Survivor but it looks like it will be a little better than last year. At least we won't have to put up with the chick that constantly looked at herself in the mirror. In between, that is, putting on lip gloss and flinging her hair around. Geesh..it's pretty sad that I can't even remember her name...and she was one of the final four players.
Now for the bad news concerning Big Brother...I never watched the live feed on the internet last season (I didn't have a computer to do so), but I know that a lot of people did so I checked it out the other night to see what all the fuss was about. To be honest, I thought it was a little creepy. It was like spying on someone. Anyway...the point is, this season Big Brother is Charging to watch it! From what I've read, this has a lot of people pissed off a little upset over the whole deal.
I've recently started watching C.S.I. Wow...now that's good t.v.! Could have something to do with that hunky head honcho "Gil Grissom" (William L. Petersen) or maybe I watch to see his sexy sidekick "Nick Stokes" (George Eads). Oh...and the story lines are great! I just wish it was on a little later at night (like 10:00) sometimes the boys are still up at 9:00 and this is NOT a show for kids.
I really like t.v., and I not ashamed to admit that. I have to chose between the computer and t.v. though since they're in two seperate rooms. Maybe I should just move the computer and then I wouldn't have to chose!! Heehee.

I'm home!! Our camping trip was a success, we're looking forward to the next one. The weather was great (we only had rain twice and that was during the night), the campground was clean and quiet, and most of the family made it this year. Our oldest camper (Mark's grandma) is 72 and the youngest this year (Mark's cousin's son) is four weeks old. All together we had around 35 people. 3 generations. Starting with Grandma, three of her kids, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. We also had a few friends of the family...some that camped and some that just came to visit.
The kids had a blast. I organized different games to keep them busy during the week and they all enjoyed the "prizes" they won...win or lose. We had a three legged race & a wheel barrow race, played follow the leader & musical chairs, enjoyed a bean bag toss and beat the heck out of a pinata. The "big kids" had a good time too. The campground came equipped with a horseshoe pit, a basketball court, and of course a beach. The big kids and the little kids shared a couple of games of kickball in a big open area near our site. Funny how all the kids felt fine the next day, but all of the adults seemed to be a little stiff and slow.
Of course we had an annual trip to the emergency room. Last year someone had an allergic reaction to a bee sting. This year cousin Mike suffered a fractured ankle during a game of basketball. The good news...he got to stay all week (he was supposed to return to work in Chicago on Tuesday). The bad news...he was on crutches the entire time. He's been to the doctor and he'll be fine. He can return to work on today with the restriction that for every hour he works he has to lay on his back with his foot above heart level for 10 minutes. Should be interesting for his fellow employees!!
Jackson has a new obsession with flies & ants...well insects in general. He also has a new love of airplanes. Everytime he hears one he starts in with "airpane, airpane". Gabe gained some independence on vacation. He was allowed to ride his bike by himself within set limits at the campground. He also learned what being grounded from his bike meant...that's what happens when you wander outside of your set limits. Thomas got to be the big boy on vacation. He was in charge of the "little kids" when they went for walks or bike rides. Most of the time he came back with all the kids he left with.
So, another vacation is over. Sunburns are begining to peel, the sand is finally washed out of all of our clothes, and everything is packed neatly away...awaiting the next vacation. 43 days and counting!!
