F.A.Q.s & Answers

Can I post your stuff on my webpage?

There are some sites we allow to do this because they have a site dedicated to showing stuff from certain Sim sites. They have our permission, so don't do it if you don't get an e-mail response saying you can do so. Re-colours also count as our creations. You have to give us credit for our stuff. Don't be a sneak and steal our stuff. We will find you...

Is your stuff free to download?

Yes, for now. Under the objects, when it says Price, it means how much it will cost for your Sims, not how much it really costs.

Do you take requests?

No, we don't. We like to design and create our own objects.

Do you want to be affiliates?

We already have our affiliates list full. We only would like to have 5-6 maximum affiliates. Sorry.

Can you add a link to my site to your links page?

We really can't do this anymore. We have just received too many requests, that our link page would become 7 pages long! Sorry, we definitely appreciate you putting a link to our site on your page, but we just can't add everyone to our links page.

How do you make objects?

We are not a Sim site that gives out tutorials on object creation, nor will we sit and write e-mails on this subject. We suggest that going to Sim sites that offer this information is your best bet. A good site for a large list of tutorials is SimPrograms.

What programs do you use to make your objects?

We use the same programs as everyone else does. Transmogrifier, Adobe Photoshop, and 3d programs.

How do I make a website of my own?

We suggest to find a good web host. There are many free ones: Stormpages, Bravenet, Tripod....the list goes on. We use Stormpages. But you can use anything. You will need to learn how to make the webpage on a webpage creator program. We cannot write a tutorial on this either. We are strictly here to make objects, cars, skins, walls, and floors for the Sims game.

I have a Mac. Can I still use your stuff?

Yes, you still can. It's a common misconception, even by Macintosh users. The only files that cause conflicts are .far files.
One thing that may be causing conflicts is that a lot of our files have longer names than your Mac can handle. Your character limit is something like 31 characters. A lot of files have really long filenames. To handle this, available in the download section
of the The Sims section at www.Aspyr.com, there is a utility called Namer (Go to the The Sims mini-site at www.Aspyr.com, click downloads, put in your serial number, and scroll down. It says the namer- 19kb). Use this to fix long file names." Just click that link. This gives the files a reasonable-length name, readable by the game. In order to use this though, you'll have to know the original long filename. To get this, use the Macintosh version of ZipIt, MacZipIt or whatever, so that you actually see the archives open up when the files are downloaded (make sure your browser is set to download the .zip files to desktop just in case the archive name is too long too; if it is, open it from within ZipIt). Pull the archive open so you can see the whole full filename. It can get to be a bit of a hassle, but it works. That is the only conflict between PC and Mac .iff files. (Thanks to Jessie for this explanation)

Another explanation if this is too complicated: in dealing with pc to mac .iff files. With a mac editing program called Resedit the files can be converted simply by changing 2 words. To do this select the 'get file/folder info" option under file, open the .iff file and change the type to 'Data' and the creator to 'TSms" (these are case sensitive). (Thanks you James for explaining this)

EXPANSION PACK OBJECTS EXPLANATION:

Can I still download your objects if I don't have any of the expansion packs?

Yes, you can. Having our objects Hot Date buyable only means that we have changed the object flags. This means that the categories that the objects can be found in are altered. They are the same in any other Sims game, but in Hot Date, they can now be bought in the downtown area. If our objects are cloned from Hot Date objects (ex: The Denim Set loveseat is cloned from Hot Date loveseat), then non-Hot Date users cannot use it because it is only a Hot Date object. We will let you know if they are Hot Date objects only, or if they are for any Sim game.

Technical Help Questions & Answers

1. I can only see red X's in the picture boxes, and/or there are broken links , and when I try downloading, I can't.

If you are running Netscape, it could be a problem, because we haven't tested our site on Netscape. It could also be your settings (if you have Internet Explorer). For Windows '95, '98, & ME go into tools (on the top menu bar), and go to internet options, then security, then the Zone section. Set Local Intranet Zone, Trusted site zone, and Internet zone to medium or low. If your options are too strict, then that could be why you cannot see our pictures, or download anything. Windows XP automatically adjusts, so there shouldn't be problems there. If there is, then go to tools (on the top menu bar), and go to internet options, then security, then select each of these categories Internet, Local Intranet, and Trusted Sites. Change the settings by going to the bottom box (of each category) that says Security Level for this Zone, go to Custom Level, and change where it says, Reset Custom Settings. Set each to Medium, or Medium-Low. It should hopefully work now.

IF THIS DOESN'T WORK: You may need to update your Internet Explorer. Go to this link to get a new version:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/ie6/

2. I try downloading your stuff, but I cannot save it, even if I try right clicking the mouse button.

Our host, Stormpages, does not support download manager/accelerators, (ex: RealDownload, FlashGet, etc..). Please disable them before downloading from our page. If you still have downloading problems, it could be your internet settings. Read the answer from question 1 for more details.

3. When I click on certain sections of your page, I am sent to a unknown url.

We check our links everyday to make sure nothing is wrong. It could be the time of day you go onto our page. If too many people are trying to access the same page at once, then some people will not be able to see it. Try again at a later time.

4. When I download your skins, I extract them in the skins folder, then when I go back to the game, the skins are not there.

The problem is that you may not have the body mesh for that particular skin. A body mesh is the shape of the body for the skin to go on top of. The skin file has the same number as the mesh does, that's why if you don't have the mesh, you won't see that skin. To get the mesh for our skins, you will see underneath the download picture of our skins, something that says Download Mesh. Click on that, and save then extract the mesh into the same folder you would extract the skins to.

5. I can download and save your files to my hardrive, but when I try and open them on my computer, it says it cannot be opened.

Our files are in .zip format. This means they have been compressed, so that when you download them, they won't take as long to download (and also that we can conserve space on our host's server). So, to be able to open them, you need to have a program that can unzip the file. Winzip is the most common program, and you can download a trial version at any website which provides free trial versions of programs. OR go to their website http://www.winzip.com/ and click on download evaluation version. Then save it, and install on your computer.

6. How am I supposed to download the files from your site, and where do I put them?

There are two ways of doing this. You can do it either way, one is just faster than the other. If you don't care about saving the .zip file onto your computer, then use the second option. Some people may find it easier to do option 2. You must have Winzip installed first before attempting the second option. Read the answer from question 5 to know where to get Winzip.

Option 1: FOR THE PICTURE TUTORIAL, CLICK HERE

Click on the picture (or text that is underlined/highlighted) you want to download, and when your computer asks you to open file or save file, save it in your C:/My downloads folder in a new folder named Sims downloads, or what ever you want to call it. Then, like the answer says in question 5, you need Winzip. After you have installed Winzip, run the program, and open the files you have downloaded from our site (it would be found in the C:/My downloads folder in the new folder named Sims downloads, or what ever else you called it). You will now see all the files in the window that were in the .zip file we made (the one you downloaded from our site). There is a button called Extract on the icon menu bar. Extract the files to these folders (may be different for some--PLEASE read explanation below):

Objects: C:/Program Files/Maxis/The Sims/Downloads/
Skins: C:/Program Files/Maxis/The Sims/Gamedata/Skins
Walls: C:/Program Files/Maxis/The Sims/Gamedata/Walls
Floors: C:/Program Files/Maxis/The Sims/Gamedata/Floors

**Those folders are where the Sims CD installs the game (by default). Some of you may have changed the directory where The Sims was installed. If so, then just remember that you need to put the files in the same place where The Sims is installed, but in their proper category (ex: objects go in the downloads folder). Then when you run your game, you can see our stuff. It's as easy as that.**

Option 2:

If you don't have Winzip installed before this point, this option will not work. Click on the picture (or text that is underlined/highlighted) you want to download, and when your computer asks you to open file or save file, open it. Opening the file should automatically open Winzip up. You will now see all the files in the window that were in the .zip file we made (the one you opened from our site). There is a button called Extract on the icon menu bar. Extract the files to the folders listed above (may be different for some--PLEASE read explanation).

7. I go into the Sims game, and try to buy the denim loveseat, sofa, and paintings. Then my game crashes. What's happening?

Well, it's very simple. It's because you may not have the expansion packs needed for those objects. The Denim Set Loveseat and Sofa are HOT DATE objects, because of new animations added to the object. So if you don't have Hot Date, then the game will crash on you when you try to buy those objects in the inventory. The paintings are the same. Some are from House Party, some are from Hot Date. That's why you cannot put them into your house. Sorry, but we are just making stuff that the majority of people who come here can use. Most of them have the expansions, but some of our stuff can be used with just the Original Sim game. The Modern Wood set shouldn't have any problems with people who don't have any expansions. My computer has all expansions loaded, and when I clone an object, it may have new features that people without all expansions cannot use, therefore, their game will crash when purchasing that object (ex: Denim Loveseat). AND NO, I will NOT uninstall my Sim expansions on my computer just to accommodate those who don't have the expansion packs.

We design and create our own objects, but sometimes may use existing 3d files found on the internet. If any of our objects are similar to Sim objects found on other sites, it is purely coincidental.

If you would like to re-colour our objects, skins, walls, floors, or cars, and post them on your site, please e-mail us to get our consent. Asking us first is better than the consequence of not asking.
