Jermaine Jenas will today complete the final touches to his £5million move to Newcastle from Nottingham Forest after agreeing personal terms on Saturday night.
Jenas watched the Magpie move to second in the table following the 3-2 victory over Bolton at the weekend.
Jenas will undergo a medical this morning, before being paraded at St James' Park after lunch.
England u21 manager, David Platt, who managed Jenas at Forest last season, believes the move is a great one for the Magpies.
"They will have a very good player on their hands, even they may be surprised at how good a player he is." Platt told the Football Association's website.
"He's athletic, quick, is a good reader of the game, can score a goal and can pass long and short. There aren't too many weaknesses in his game.
"Jermaine has the right mental approach to the game. He takes things in his stride, and I would expect him to do the same at Newcastle." He added.
Meanwhile, as you may have already seen, Warren Barton has joined Derby County for a small fee. The player made his debut in the Rams 1-0 win over Spurs at the weekend.
