Ifugao Villages

Ifugao....The word conjures up images of fierce warriors and headhunters who resisted colonization by foreigners for two centuries. It also refers to a tribe of hardworking people, who, with their bare hands and crude tools, have built the world-famous rice terraces considered as the Eighth Wonder of the World.

Amidst a setting of extremely cold temperature and harsh terrain, the Ifugaos managed to carve these terraces, complete with a natural irrigation system, on the sides of the Cordillera mountain range. It is nothing short of an engineering feat.

The most famous among these rice terraces is in the city of Banaue . Deep in the heart of Ifugao, within the villages on the fringes of Banaue, lies the true Ifugao spirit. It is where their rich culture remain intact to this day.

These pages will give you a glimpse of my Ifugao villages adventure with three friends namely, Naidz, Vic and Tonton, during the long holidays, last October to November 2000. We trekked from the villages of Batad to Cambulo to Pula and back to Banaue. We had so much fun!!!
