Thomas Futrell is believed to be the father of Thomas Futrell, Jr. (1670-1739). This Thomas migrated from Surry Co, VA to Bertie Co, NC, the part which is now NorthHampton Co, NC, This migration took place somewhere before 5/14/1723 and founded the present day Futrell family. He married his wife Gilliam and he died there in 1693. A Will in Surry Co, has not been located, but an inventory of his estate was recorded in May Court 1693.
The inventory reveals that he was a Christian man, for in that colonial period of American history, he possessed a bible.
THOMAS FEWTRELL, migrated from Surrey County, Virginia to Northeastern, North Carolina. Bought 100 acres on Yourah Swamp in Bertie County on 11 August 1724 for 10 pounds.

HISTORICAL SKETCH OF NORTHAMPTOM COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA
from Northampton Co. Chamber of Commerce, Jackson, N.C. 1968 Northampton County is located in the Northeastern section of North Carolina. To the East are Bertie and Hertford Counties, to the South is Halifax County, to the West is Warren County, and to the North is the State of Virginia. The county is
approximately 85 miles inland fro m the Atlantic Coast; 75 miles northeast of Raleigh, the State Capitol; and 70 miles Southwest of the Ports of Hampton Roads, Virginia.
Actual settlement of the area began prior to 1720, first by Scots and Ulster-Scots and then by the English and French. The first known transfer of land was to Robert Jones, who purchased land from the Indians in 1720. Settlers were attracted by the County's rich lands and the 2 navigable rivers--the Meherrin and Roanoke. In 1741, the County of Northampton was created out of Bertie County and was named in
honor of George, Earl of Northampton, and English nobleman. The County seat was established at Northampton Courthouse, which in 1 823 was renamed Jackson in honor of the President.
Forest land comprises about 60% of the total land area in Northampton County. The surface of the County is composed of scattered patches of Pamlico and Croatan sands and loams which appear to be free of shells.
Thomas Fewtrell, Sr. (ca. 1670-ca. 1739) - thought to be the son of Thomas Futerell, who died 1693, Surry Co, VA. Thomas Fewtrell, Sr. is thought to have been reared in Virginia where he lived until about 1720 when he moved to the Province of northeastern North Carolina. He was living in Bertie County,
NC, as early as May 14, 1723, whe n he witnessed a deed between John Lane and John Cook. Thomas Fewtrel l purchased 100 acres of land on Yeaurah Swamp in Bertie Count y fro m James Bryant and
wife, Sarah, on August 11, 1724 for the purchase price often pounds. The name of the wife of Thomas Fewtrell is unknown as she is not mentioned in any land records of Bertie or Northampto n Counties, North Carolina. Thomas Futerell, Sen. deeded 185 acres o f land on the northwes t side of Yeaurah Swamp to James Lasiter on Mar ch 3, 1735. The deed was wit nessed by Thomas Futerell, presumably junior. On October 15, 1735, Arthur Wil liams deeded 300 acres of land on the north side of Pottycasey Creek, bounde d by Hunting Quarter Swamp, to Thomas Futerrill, Jun. A search of all Bertie County, NC deeds from 1720 to 1800 lists only the above named Thomas Fewtrell's in a ddition to a Benjamin Futrel and John Futril. On October 15, 1735, Arthur Williams deeded three hundred acres of land on the north side of Pottycasey Creek, bounded by Hunting Quarter Swamp, to Thomas Futerrill, Jun. (REF: D.B. D, p. 228). Thomas Ward deeded two hundred ninety acres of land, on the north side of Pottacasie Creek adjoining Thomas Drake to Thomas Futerrill on March 8, 1739. The deed was witnessed by Thomas Futerrill, Jun. (REF: D.B. F, p. 52).
A search of all Bertie County, N.C. deeds from 1720 to 1800 lists only the above named Thomas Fewtrell's in addition to a Benjamin Futril and John Futril. From the foregoing data found in the deeds of Bertie County, North Carolina, one would presume that Thomas Fewtrell, Sr. settled in Bertie County before 1723 and had at least three sons: Thomas Futrell, Jr.;
Benjamin Futrell; and John Futrell. Further evidence as to the fact that the preceeding three were brothers is found in the will of Thomas Futrell, dated March 27, 1770. Northampton County. Will Book 1, page 180, as the two legal witnesses to the will were John Futrell and Benjamin Futrell.

One of early settlers of Trigg Co. 1799, he, wife, Nathan, Thomas (sons) and Elizabeth and Rebecca (dau) and half-brothers Daniel and John Futrell & families came by flatboat and covered wagon. 3months, arrived in Nashville. Then boarded flatboat for Christian Co.
Even though I have seen about three sources of William Shadrack, I am not convinced he is the son of Sanders Futrell and Courtland. Reason, Sanders was born in 1730 and William Shadrack is listed as his "NINTH" child born 1750. We all know this is not possible.
WILLIAM SH ADRACH FUTRELL, pioneer settler of Trigg County, Kentucky, was born in North Carolina, about the year 1750. His parents were Saunders Futrell and Court Futrell. Nothing is known about his youth, with the exception that he married Sarah Lassiter in Northampton County, North Carolina, circa 1770.
In the year 1799, William S. Futrell, Nathan Futrell (his son), Thomas Futrell (his son) , and wife Sarah with two daughters Elizabeth and Rebecca; and half-brothers Daniel and John Futrell and their families, started the long journey from North Carolina to Kentucky by covered wagon and flat-boat. After the
passage of about three months, they arrived at Nashville, Tennessee, where they remained only a short time, and then boarded a flat boat and made the journey to Christian (later Trigg) County, Kentucky.
Will of William S. Futrell
Copied from Will Book C., p. 48, entered in March term of court 1816, and probated on Monday, March
4, 1816.
In the name of God-Amen, I William S. Futrell, of the County of Christian and State of Kentucky, being in a very low state of body health at present, but of sound mind and proper memory, and in my proper sense s at present, thanks to God for the same, and calling to mind, that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following seiz:
First is my will and desire that my friend Levi Lancaster, retain in his hands of my money as much as may satisfy him for all trouble and expenses that he may be at on my account.
Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my beloved brother Daniel Futrell (Note: half-brother) all the balance of my property to wit: one bond against Elliott Futrell and Littleberry Futrell for three hundred fourty five dollars and fifty cents ($345.50 ) barring date of November 16, 1815. Also my horse, saddle, briddle and all my wearing appeareal and every other article that I am possessor of, to him and his heirs forever.
I do furthermore constitute and appoint my trusty friend Shadrach Futrell, the whole and sole of my executors to this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this 14th day of February, in the year of our Lord 1816.
Witness: William Futrell

Nothing is known of his early life, with the exception that he served in the American Revolution as a drummer boy. Among the invaluable collection of papers given the author by Miss Minnie and Alice Futrell, of Herndon, Kentucky, w as a small yellow slip of paper with the following inscription: "Jany. 3, 1829, My Consorte Nathan Futrell, served as a drummer player in the North Carolina Militia during the Revolution at the age of seven years.: Signed: Charity Futrell."
Thus our ancestor Nathan Futrell served in the American Revolution and the Paducah, Kentucky Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution placed Nathan Futrell's name on a bronze roster of Revolutionary War Veterans of Trigg County in October, 1960. The bronze memorial stands in the Eastend Cemetery, Cadiz, Kentucky.
Nathan and Charity and their infant daughter Catherine, pioneered west to Christian Co, Kentucky by way of the Cumberland River. In 1799, they settled on Donaldson Creek.
However in 1820 they removed to the west side of the Cumberland River, in the area from which Trigg Co, KY had been formed.
They bought 2000 acres of land on the waters of Ford Creek. Here they built a spacious home. The late Mrs. Charles W Ross, great grandson of Nathan Futrell related in a deposition dated September 18, 1960, that the Nathan Futrell home was built directly opposite what later became the site of Laura Ore
Furnace, built in 1855 by Gentry, Gunn and Company. Mr. Ross said that it was a two-story log house with a "dog-trot" through the center of the lower floor. He could distinctly remember the old house, as a child, when his mother took him to visit the grave of her grandfather, Nathan Futrell. He said that Charity
Futrell kept an inn or tavern at the old home from about 1855 to 1860 for the frequenting of employees of Laura Furnace.
Nathan was a farmer, surveyor, election officer and a pioneer pomologist, having planted the first apple in Trigg Co. He erected one of the earliest primitive grist mills in Trigg County.
He received an appointment as Justice of the Peace of Trigg County on October 29, 1824, from Governor Joseph Desha.
The 1820 Census lists him as an owner of four Negro slaves.

History of Trigg County, Historical and Biographical, ed. W.H. Perrin, F.A. Battery Pub. Co., Chicago, 1884. pp. 248-49. [Golden Pond Precinct]
SOLOMON D. FUTRELL was born June 4, 1820, in Trigg County. He is a son of John and Elizabeth (Deloach) Futrell; his parents were born in North Carolina; there they were married and came to Christian, now Trigg County, at an early date. The father died in 1873, at the advanced age of ninety-four. The mother died in 1828, aged forty-five. On coming here the courts in Hopkinsville were held in black jack poles. From Hopkinsville to Donaldson's Creek there was no growth of timber; a riding switch could not even be obtained. On their arrival at Nashville there were but three stores, and but one in Hopkinsville. Our subject, at the age of twenty-one rented a farm, and there he remained eight years. He then bought eighty acres of land, which he improved and sold. He now owns 213
acres largely improved, all of which he has acquired by his attention to business and judicious management. He married, in 1846, Clarissa Futrell. She was born in Trigg County. They have had ten children, seven of whom are now living--four sons and three daughters.
Memorial Record of Western Kentucky, Volume I and Volume II, Lewis Publishing Company, 1904, pp. 169-170. Graves Co. SOLOMON D. FUTRELL
The father of this patriarch among the farmers of Graves County, Kentucky, was John Futrell, who was born in North Carolina in 1780. He came to Trigg County, Kentucky, in 1797, and became a successful
farmer and tobacco-raiser. He lived to be ninety-three years old, and died in 1873. His wife was Lizzie Deloach, who was born in North Carolina in 1783, and died when our subject was a small boy. Their children were: Francis Futrell, who died in 1846; Cullen, who was a farmer of Trigg county, Kentucky, and also died in 1846; Charlotte, died in 1850; Perry was a farmer in Trigg county and died in 1902, when eighty-six years old; Sarah Anna, the wife of Maliciah Cooper, a carpenter of Trigg county,
died in 1888 at the age of seventy-five; Thomas, deceased, was a farmer of Trigg county.
Solomon D. Futrell was born to these parents in Trigg County, Kentucky, June 4, 1820. After receiving his educational training, he devoted himself to farming, and for many y ears successfully carried on that calling in Trigg county, but in 1892 moved to Graves county and bought a farm four miles south of Mayfield, where he no w resides, enjoying to the utmost the respect of his neighbors, and passing t he remaining days of his life in peace and contentment.
In 1846 Mr. Futrell married Miss Clarisa Futrell, and a large family was born of the union. The son, Cullen H., is a farmer of Graves County; Annie married Zachariah Hayden, a farmer of Graves County;
Rufus, who was a farmer in Trigg County, was drowned in the Cumberland River in 1880; Joseph
S. is the proprietor of a hotel at Canton, Kentucky; Eliza Mildred is the wife of Horney Frizzell; Sarah Alice died in 1887 at the age of twenty-one;
Albert T. lives at Paducah, Kentucky; Alfred D. is a farmer in Graves County; and Sarah Allie died in 1879. Mr. Futrell has, by these children, thirty-five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, so that
he is honored as the head of four generations of worthy citizens of the old Bluegrass state. His wife died in 1888, aged fifty-eight
