FAQ

--Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can you send me the program?

A: No.

Q: Why not?

A: For crying out loud, it's on the site! (Yes, I really have had people ask me this since the ChUB section went up)

Q: Can you make items/weapons/characters for me?

A: I'd be glad to, actually. Just send me a description of the weapon/item and what you want it to do and I'll see about making it. As far as characters go, you'll need to give me a description of the character (better descriptions will yield better charas), his/her fatality, and a description/effects of at least 4 moves for that character. Send requests to archorizon@hotmail.com. If you insist on bugging me about absurdly powerful attacks or just spam you will promptly be blocked... permanently.

Q: Okay, I have the program and I made my own items/weapons/characters, but how do I use them while someone else is hosting?

A: The person that's hosting must have the files for your items/weapons/characters. I'll be more than happy to include your custom stuff in my dataset so that you can play as your characters while I'm hosting a game. All you need to do is send them to me at archorizon@hotmail.com. Just be sure you zip all of the files together (for those of you sending from AOL DON'T let it zip it for you!!). I'll validate the submissions and add them for you.

Q: Why do I keep losing so badly in the Chibot??

A: A good degree of success is attributed to timing and strategy. You can have a really powerful (read: cheap) character, but still lose horribly if you don't know when to use the proper attacks. Yes, it's good to block attacks, but you shouldn't block if you have a good opening to attack (i.e. someone else that you could finish off is asleep/stunned/ect.). Also, it's a great idea to unleash a bunch of level 1 super moves if you have Haste cast on you. The individual damage will be less, but the total damage will be much greater! Also, don't be shy to divert HP for a counter attack. If you see a big attack coming your way, it may be a good idea to "/halt", divert to 200 SP, and use a ChiCounter to stop the attack in its tracks. It's all about the little things, really. Try to come up with your own strategies and surprise your opponents!

Q: Okay, I downloaded the characters/items/weapons/arenas, but when I start ChUB, it tells me to "pick an INI file". What do I do?

A: Just having the character files isn't enough. You must create an .ini file (also known as a Dataset) that tells ChUB where the characters/items/ect are. When you download the main program, it comes with three help files. If you'll simply read the "C2KData.txt" file, it'll tell you everything you need to know about making the .ini file.

Q: I made/downloaded a dataset with the .INI file, but when I try to load it, the program crashes! What's going on?

A: One of two things. Either A) one of the folders you're pulling charas/items/arenas/weapons from has more than 8 letters in its name (shorten the name and fix the designation in the .ini file) or B) you're trying to load a set of arenas that use more than one extention. To fix this, make sure you use only arenas with the .an2 extention.

Q: If you say to only use .an2 arenas, how do I use the other ones?

A: Easy, just open up the arena editor, load the non-an2 arena, and save it as .an2.

Q: I downloaded one of your custom datasets (the ones with sounds) and the sounds won't play!

A: Again, there are a couple of possible reasons. A) Your computer doesn't support MPEG Layer 3 WAV files. All of the WAV files in my custom datasets have been converted to MPEG Layer 3 encoding to greatly reduce filesize. Or B) You didn't put the WAV files in the Windows/System folder. That's right, just plop 'em right in there. If you've already done this and they still don't play then your problem is C) TURN ON YOUR FRIGGIN' CHAT SOUNDS!!! While in a chat room, click the little "Chat Preferences" button in the lower-right of the window. Make sure the "Enable Chat Sounds" box is checked.

Q: I love you...

A: Don't MAKE me get a restraining order...
