[January 29, 2002] Remote Patrol: Close Encounter ... As one of daytime's hottest couples, we half-expected Katie and Simon to jet off for some far-flung, romantic honeymoon. But how wonderfully realistic, considering their financial status, to see them stick close to home, cozying up at the Lakeview. Besides, considering the disastrous turns their past jaunts have taken, it seemed wise that they prove the old adage that home is where the heart is.

It was supposed to be only a marriage of convenience, but, to his astonishment, he came tot ruly love his missus. (Isn't that convenient?) So put your money on this rascally romantic to go the distance; when he sets his mind on something, there's no safer bet in town.

[January 15, 2002] Remote Patrol: White Wedding ... It's really too bad that Simon let himself get talked out of giving Katie the wedding of her teen dreams. Wouldn't it have been a hoot to see the bride walk down the aisle in a Madonna-inspired dress to "Like a Virgin" and cut a Bon Jovi wedding cake?

[January 01, 2002] My Buddy: On screen and off, these co-stars stick together ... With the many long hours spent waiting around a soap opera set, co-stars often strike up a rapport that ultimately extends beyond the confines of the studio walls. These daytime couples from The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restelss and As the World Turns have become known for hanging out together after hours.

Paul Leyden (Simon) and Terri Colombino (Katie): Long before their characters got together on screen, these two colleages became fast friends while attending industry events and hanging out at Colombino's former beachfront home.

[January 08, 2002] It's Only My Opinion ... Katie and Simon's wedding on As the World Turns was one of the cutest things I've ever seen. Using her little poem as a voiceover for the inevitable flashbacks with Enrique Iglesias's "Hero" playing in the background was perfect. ATWT showcased all the best moments of their relationship (alhtough I would have liked more flashbacks from their hilarious green-card wedding).

[January 01, 2002] Hot Shots: Paul Leyden (Simon) ... "You probably don't know this about Mr. Leyden, but he keeps a horde of turtles in his bathtub at home. And you just thought he was beautiful." -- Terri Colombino (Katie)

[December 25, 2001] Why didn't Katie and Simon have a bigger wedding? ... "Katie doesn't really have any friends. But this is her dream day, so it doesn't matter."

[October 09, 2001] How does Katie feel about Bruno? ... "At first, she saw him as the perfect opportunity to play hard to get with Simon [Paul Leyden], but once she got into it, she started to feel guilty. Now, she's nervous and scared."

[July 10, 2001] How does Katie manage to find the diamond? ... "It's quite simple, actually. She puts on the scuba gear, goes out into the ocean, battles the currents and reef and comes back with the diamond. She gets it done! She should have trid this a long time ago."

[May 1, 2001] May Day ... As the World Turns ... Everything revolves around Craig and Barbara's wedding," says Head Writer Hogan Sheffer.

Katie/Simon: Katie wants to recover Simon's diamond from the deserted island, and drags Henry along. "So perhaps the two worst survivors in the history of survivors will end up on an island together waiting for Simon to come rescue them, but he doesn't have any idea where they are."

[May 1, 2001] It's Only My Opinion by Carolyn Hinsey ... As the World Turns's Simon and Katie are the cutest couple on daytime right now. Those scenes with the balloons were adorable. (She convinced him to spend one last afternoon with her before he left town, and she blew up a bunch of balloons and ran around bopping him on the head until they collasped, laughing on thebed in a sexually charged moment.) Little Katie Peretti is such a well-written character -- all she wants is to be loved. Her motivations are clear, her actions understandable, her behavior believable. (And Terri Conn is fabulous.) I wish all soap characters were drawn as beautifully.

[February 6, 2001] Roundup Question: If you could write your own storyline, what would your character do?

Terri Conn (Katie, ATWT) "Katie and Simon would go really bad and sweep Oakdale in a crime spree like Bonnie and Clyde. And become really rich all of a sudden, and just be like those nouveau riche, trailer trash types of people. That's a good start."

[January 16, 2001] It's Only My Opinion by Carolyn Hinsey ... How great was Simon and Katie's wedding on As the World Turns? The vows were a riot (I've never heard "Through rain and sleet" or "Yada yada yada" actually spoken in a wedding ceremony before), and the INS agents bursting in at the end made for a great climax. Poor Lily. When Katie tossed the bouquet at her, it was all Lily could to not to pick u tup and throttle the bride with it. "Great catch!" snarked Katie. "I guess that makes two of us!"

[January 2, 2001] 2001 Preview ... As the World Turns -- Lily/Simon/Katie: Now that Katie's won Simon, Lily's out in the cold. Look for Lily to be alone for a while -- and out of town. "Lily is going to find that Katie is just too much of an obstacle to bear." As for the newlyweds, explains Head Writer Hogan Sheffer "I still don't know who Simon's going to end up with, but I just love them together."

[December 19, 2000] Roundup Question: What happened to your character this year that really surprised you?

Terri Conn (Katie, ATWT) "I was really surprised that Katie was a virgin. I always thought that she was kind of a closet slut, but it looks like she'd been saving it."

[December 5, 2000] Recap Question ... Is Katie developing an obsession with Simon (Paul Leyden) now? Terri Conn says: "Probably. She gets obsessed with everyone!"

[April 24, 2001] May Previews ... Blonde Ambition: Katie will not lose another man, no matter how much he is looking forward to ditching the good ol' U.S.A. An adventurous Katie embarks on a quest, convinced that success will make Simon hers for good.

[February 13, 2001] Starshine: Honorable Mention ... Terri Conn (ATWT's Katie) Katie defied her family and won our hearts as she broke down in Simon's arms on Christmas. It was her vulnerability under her spunk that got us.

[January 30, 2001] February Preview: Bye Lily? ... Look out Lily! Katie yearns for your man -- again! An overwhelmed Lily is left more confused than she has ever been as Katie continues to manipulate Simon.

[January 16, 2001] Emmy Watch - Supporting Actor -- As the World Turns' Jon Hensley also did something extraordinary: He showed viewers that maybe Holden and Lily aren't meant to be together after all. Hensley comes alive in the Holden/Rose scenes, just like Paul Leyden -- another Supporting Actor contender, especially for his comedic work -- popped in Simon's scenes with Lily and Katie. -- Mark McGarry
