Showers of Emotion
September 21, 2001 - Jack and Jennifer share a special dance June 26-27 2001 - Jack is Jennifer's "hero" Picture SOURCE: (((mikeR's spoiler companion))) After Jack and Jennifer's first breakthrough since coming back to Salem, the car accident and aftermath, Jennifer told Jack he was her and Abby's hero, and they really connected. Jack made some attempts to see if he and Jennifer's relationship could get back on track, but she wasn't ready to address that, leaving their future unclear. During these moments, they flashbacked to when Jack proposed to Jennifer in the rain, and laughed about the past, when Jennifer was a cub reporter and Jack was her boss. Jack told her what she had said meant a lot to him, and she got him to admit that he wanted to be a hero to her. Jennifer told Jack that she wanted to hug him and thank him for what he did for her, but she as afraid she wouldn't be able to turn away from him. Jack passionately stated that maybe it meant she wasn't meant to turn away, and that they weren't talking about controlling cholesterol, they were talking about love. Jack's love for Jennifer became obvious as the conversation progressed, and it was apparent that Jennifer's feelings for him had never died, but Jack was devastated when Jennifer told him he may not be the person for her. To quote his reaction; "Rejection really sucks, you know?" They ended up hugging, but Jennifer still insisted that all she felt was gratitude. Nevertheless, Jennifer turned a certain shade of green when Greta came along, and she and Jack went off together. The conversation opened up a lot of emotional doors for the two.
Hanging by a moment...
Unknown to anyone in Salem, Stefano had bombs planted all around Salem, to prevent his daughter from losing her baby. The first thing to go was the bridge, which just happened to be where Jenn was headed bringing JT, Hope's baby, to her house. Hope had asked Jenn to baby-sit JT while she and Bo went out, and wanting to get away from Jack the first night in their new house, she quickly agreed. Annoyed Jennifer wasn't home, Jack called Jennifer and informed her that Abby wanted her to come home. Jenn ok'd it with Hope that she would bring JT to her house, and Hope could pick him up from there. As she drove along the road towards the bridge, it was dark and Jenn could not see where she was going. By the time she realized the bridge was blown out, it was too late. She slammed on her brakes, and the car hung off the edge. Later, a worried Jack turned on the radio and heard that the bridge was blown up. He left Greta with Abby, and went to find Jenn. When he got there, at first he did not know what to do. He devised a plan to save Jenn and JT, but JT fell out of the car much to their horror. Jack was able to hold down the rear of the car so Jenn could get out, and hanging onto the ledge, Jack pulled Jenn up to safety. A shaken Jack and a devastated Jennifer searched for JT by the riverbank, with no luck. Finally, they went and got help, and the cops arrived. Jack was tender and loving with Jennifer, holding her and comforting her. He realized that she just needed to sleep, to calm down, so he got the paramedics to give her a sedative. Then he took her home, and had her put to bed. The next few days, he was the shoulder for Jennifer to lean on until JT was finally brought home. (Awesome performances by Matt and Missy; truly Emmy-deserving!) February 5, 2001 - Jack is back and Jenn is not happy
After months of separation once Jenn left Jack with Abby to go to Ireland, and then came back to Salem, Jack had gone to Salem to find his ex-wife and daughter. Alice told him that Jennifer was going to Greta's coronation in Paris, and he tracked Jennifer down. He had given her a letter that she had not read. He dressed up as a waitor, with fake mustache and all, for the coronation, and confronted her. Jenn, infuriated that he had followed her, told him she would never take him back. Jack informed her that he didn't want her back, he just wanted Abby. The two bickered and didn't resolve anything, but it was because they left the coronation to go somewhere else and talk that they escaped the massacre that followed there. July 2, 1991 - Jack and Jennifer get married After many hindrances, adventures, sorrows, Jack losing his voice, and falling into a well, Jack Harcourt Deveraux and Jennifer Rose Horton were married on July 2, 1991. Over 4,000 people attended the wedding, and Jennifer was escorted down the aisle by her father, Bill Horton.
After the wedding, Jack gave Jennifer a letter: Dear Jennifer, In the past few days, I've been something I've never been before - silent. But you're at least partly to blame. From the day we met, you've surprised me, challenged me, and engaged me in a way that no other human being ever has. And I've never been able to tell you what that meant to me. But today of all days I have to find a way.
At the wedding, Jennifer recited this poem: Now we will feel no rain For each of us will be shelter to each other. And now we will feel no cold For each of us will be warmth to each other. Now there is no loneliness We are two bodies, but there is one life before us and one home. When evening falls, I'll look to you and there you'll be. And I'll take your hand and you'll take mine. And we'll turn together and we'll look to the road we traveled to reach this The hour of our happiness. It stretches far behind us, and our future lies ahead A long and winding road where every turning means discovery Old hopes, new laughter, shared tears. The adventure has just begun.
December 25, 1990 - Jack proposes dressed as Santa December 24, 1990 - Jack and Jennifer exchange special Christmas gifts Picture SOURCE: ((( Beth's Days Page))) Jack and Jennifer had a lot to celebrate this particular Christmas Eve. They had recently escaped from the evil Lawrence Alamain and Jack was finally able to tear down some emotional walls in order to let Jennifer into his life. To give Jennifer a special evening, Jack prepared a candle-lit dinner for her in the loft, with the lights dimmed and the Christmas tree glowing. Soft Christmas music played in the background. Jack informed Jennifer that he had something for her, and she insisted on giving him his present first: cufflinks that were her grandfather's and then her father's. Her dad had given them to her to give to the man she loved, so she was giving them to Jack. Jack presented Jennifer with a hope chest. Inside were symbols of their relationship in the past year. First, there was a toy firetruck, complete with a fireman and bride doll. Then, there was a bag of lincoln logs to represent the log cabin they stayed in after Jack kidnapped her from the wedding. Next, Jennifer pulled out a stuff bear- "to scare me with", just like the fake bear sounds Jack had used out in the woods. Last, she pulled out lifejacket with "Loretta" written on it. Jack then gave her a piece of paper that stated: "All kidding aside, now that this is finally empty, we can fill it up again with new memories and hopes for a wonderful future." Jennifer began to tear up, and tell Jack how wonderful he was. "That's incorrect reporting," he told her. "You're talking about you."

When Jack told Jennifer he had a night of romance planned, a night she would never forget, he wasn't exaggerating. When she got onto the roof of her loft, she found a table set up with candles. She looked around for Jack - and saw him on the fire escape of the building next door. His reasoning was "Your basic balcony from the tradition of Cyrano, Romeo and Juliet." Then he quoted, "With love's light wings did I o'er perch these walls/For stoney limits cannot hold love out/And what love can do/That dare's love attempt. Meaning you're there and I'm here...but I'm trying." Jack proceeded to proclaim his love for Jennifer, which she reciprocated, and he scared her by trying to jump from the fire escape to where she was. As she berated him for scaring her like that, he looked very serious, and told her how no one's opinion of who he was mattered to him. She was all that mattered. With the moon and stars above them, Jack reached in his pocket and pulled out a ring box. He threw it over the ledge, and then held up his hand. On the tip of his ring finger was an engagement ring. His proposal: "Would you, Jennifer Horton, in your stubborn and feisty ways, continue to go out on ledges for and with me? Will you continue to surprise and delight and make me feel... will you be my wife? Will you marry me? Jennifer had recently been raped by Lawrence Alamain, and Jack did not know. Due to the traumatization she was still dealing with over the rape, she told Jack she wouldn't say no or yes. He was the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with, but she didn't want to start her life right away. Jack was very disappointed, but gracious about her response. He feared she was going to go back to her ex-boyfriend, Frankie Brady, who had become her roommate. The truth behind it would later bring him shock he'd never imagined.
Jack in Drag!
After getting involved with a scheme to impersonate Katerina von Luechener, Jennifer left with Warner Bayer to go to New York and meet Lawrence Alamain. Knowing that Jennifer was getting herself in trouble in New York, Jack followed her there and tried to get info on where she was staying and what Bayer was up to. The manager at the hotel would not budge or give him any more information, and Jack was eventually kicked out for trying to bribe a bellboy for access into the hotel's computer. Jack managed to overhear the manager saying that Warner Bayer's wife would be arriving later, and so Jack got a 'bright' idea. A little while later, Jack made his entrance in an ugly floral dress, floppy hat, dramatic makeup, pumps, and a brown curly wig. He walked up to the manager, and said that he was "Mrs. Warner Bayer" and asked for a key to Warner's room. As the manager went to get it, Jack saw Jennifer and Warner coming that way. He quickly hid behind some plants, and heard Warner tell the manager that his wife would NOT be coming in. The manager said that he had just seen her, she was a large woman... They figured it must have been someone pretending. Later, Jack hurried out into an alley, and was mugged of his normal clothes and money. He tried to go to sleep in the alley, next to a bum named Nigel, in his dress and all. Later, Jennnifer decided to take a walk, and heard someone snoring as she walked in the back alley. She looked down and saw a woman - Jack - asleep. When she asked if the woman was ok, Jack raised his head, and they both looked at each other in shock! Jennifer was immediately angry at Jack for following her to New York. He told her he had been mugged, and so she told him to meet her at a Japanese restaurant and they would talk. When he arrived, still in drag, Jennifer gave him a change of clothes and a plane ticket back to Salem. Warner Bayer came by while they were there, and Jennfier told him that the woman with her was her Aunt Wanda. After Warner left, they got into a deep conversation about how Jack had hurt her by breaking up with her and pushing her to leave, and how they both had gotten hurt in the past months. Jack argued about leaving her in New York, and Jennifer argued back that it was pointless. "We're in a Japanese restaurant, you're in drag, and we're trying to mend fences that are far too broken." After Jennifer left, and Jack changed, instead of going back to Salem, he stayed, and remained determined to get Jennifer out of the mess she was in. Rescue me
Frustrated that Jack would not commit to her or admit his feelings for her, Jennifer accepted a marriage proposal from Emilio Ramirez, who was in love with her. Though she did not love him back, she felt it would be the only way she could ever get over Jack and move on with her life. She was tired of being rejected by him. The engagement was a catalyst for Jack finally realizing he could not let Jennifer get away, and so he set up a plan. On the wedding day, Jack showed up in a fireman's uniform, and confronted Jennifer in a back room in the church where she was preparing to go to the sanctuary. She didn't recognize him, and he insisted that there was a fire in the church and she had to come with him. With fake smoke and all, he hoisted her up on his shoulder and carried her out the back way. He left a "good-bye" letter on the table for Emilio, having forged Jennifer's name. He put Jennifer on the firetruck he had gotten, and they drove away to the music of "Rescue Me."
January 1990 - Jack and Jennifer share their first kiss Picture SOURCE: ((( The Jack Deveraux Story)))
Jack had been trying to find a way to find Kayla Brady, who had been kidnapped. He knew in order to get a lead on where and how to find her, he needed to find a key that was hidden in Steve Johnson's house. Jack repeatedly discouraged Jennifer from trying to help him with the problem, but Jennifer was stubborn and decided to look for the key with or without Jack's permission. As she snuck into Steve's house, she came face to face with Jack, who had also snuck in. As they bickered, Jennifer picked up a nearby vase and threatened to throw it at Jack. Then, they heard Steve about to come in, and knowing that he would be angered at finding them there, Jack pulled Jennifer into the secret passage, with Jennifer still holding the vase. In close proximity and in the dark, it was obvious they were fixing to kiss. Jack weakly protested, though it was easy to see he wanted to kiss her. She told him to shut up, and then they kissed. It only ended because Jennifer knocked over the vase, and voila: the key fell out. Afterwards, Jack rejected Jennifer, and insisted "The earth didn't move" and "I don't want you", but it was the basis for the recognition of feelings they both had that couldn't be denied any longer.
1989-1990 - Jennifer is torn between Emilio and Jack
At the beginning of it all, Jennifer didn't know how to handle the situation. Emilio was loving, attentive, successful - all a girl could ask for. Still, she felt herself drawn to Jack - who could appear to be rude, apathetic, and maybe even a jerk. Still, as Jennifer began to work closer with him, and see his good points that he had trouble letting shine through, she began to feel much stronger for him than she had ever thought. As she made her feelings for him known, Jack continuously pushed her away, because he was afraid of his feelings for her, of being happy, of hurting her. Jennifer continued to fall in love with him and stay with Emilio, who gave her affection Jack couldn't at the time. Emilio never stood a chance though, because Jack slowly opened up to Jennifer more and more, showing her what a good heart he had, the kind of person he was, and he turned out to be all Jennifer could ask for.
- February 5, 1989 - Jennifer walks into Jack's life Picture SOURCE: ((( The Jack Deveraux Story))) Hoping to publish an article she had in mind, Jennifer went to The Spectator, looking for Diana Colville. She got someone entirely different. Though they had heard of each other, it was Jack Deveraux and Jennifer Horton's first formal meeting. Jennifer informed him that she would rather pitch her idea to Diana, but when Jack asked her if she felt that her story was only good enough to be approved by a 'friend, she passionately told him about her idea. Jack agreed that it would work. The article was about a horse, and before she left, Jack inquired: "What's the horse's name?" "Jennifer's Beauty," Jennifer replied before hurrying out. "She certainly is," Jack said to himself.
