Season 1 -- Colorado Avalanche
Season 2 -- Detroit Red Wings

The actual trophy section of the award is made of sterling silver and was created in 1878 by a British silversmith.

The trophy was first presented to the NHL by its member clubs in 1968 to commemorate the services of Clarence S. Campbell who presided over the National Hockey League as its president from 1946-1977. Begining in the 1967-68 season and continuing through 1974-75, the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl was awarded to the regular season champions of the West Division. From 1974-75 to 1980-81 the bowl was awarded to the regular season winner of the Campbell Conference. Starting in 1981-82 the award was given to the playoff champion in the Campbell Conference. The most recent incarnation of the trophy came in 1993-94 when the NHL began presenting it to the club which advances to the Stanley cup Finals as the winner of the Western Conference Championship game.
