Fall 2002 Jewelry Trends
Fall 2002 is marked by relatively simply clothing styles that are accentuated by embellishment and eye-catching jewelry. Rich autumn leaf colors are suitable, as is basic black. Choose comfortable, luxurious fabrics. If you have trim or embellishment, keep your jewelry simple. If your outfit is basic, add bold jewelry and other accessories. Jewelry with visual and tactile texture is an excellent choice. Don't be afraid to mix media with your jewelry, such as leather and stones or fabric and beads. Here are some general trends for Autumn 2002:
All That Glitters Is Not Gold
Silver retains its popularity this season. For an edgier look, consider steel. In addition, look for copper and copper-colored metals, which add an autumn warmth to jewelry. Mixed metals are also in vogue. Gold is always popular, but update it for the season by wearing multi-colored gold, such as Black Hills Gold.

New Takes on Classics
Pearls remain a classic. This season, the traditional strand is updated by spacing the pearls with popular stones, such as turquoise or lapis lazuli. Its been around for a while, but the tin cup style pearl necklace is still going strong.

Get Chunky, Get Natural
Natural materials, such as amber, coral, pearls, ivory, wood, and metals, are all really popular. For a beautiful alternative to coral, consider matching red or orange carnelian with turquoise. Gemstones abound, but instead of precision-faceted gems, look for handcut stones and irregular pebbles or chunks. This season's jewelry doesn't need to be big to be bold, but it does need to show your individuality and personality.
