Editorial

   Well what do you know, Christmas is about to arrive once again.  Many things have happened in our family this past year.  We have had a wedding (Son), another member had a stroke and is recovering slowly and many other small everyday events.  Once again Evelyn and I will be celebrating birthdays on Dec. 21st.
Today at my age I received a letter from Santa.  His letter reads as follows:
Dear Friend;
Last year, I gave myself and Mrs. Claus an important Christmas present. I decided to throw away my pipe and give up smoking for good! Mrs. Claus was worried about my lung health and the secondhand smoke was really bothering her asthma, causing her to cough.  It was hard to quit but I'm so glad I did!
It goes on and is signed by Santa himself.  No, this is not my way of trying to get you to stop, cease or give up your filthy habit.  All that I'm simply trying to do is to get you to use Christmas seals that you receive in the mail - this year from Santa himself.  If you want you may make a donation but it is not necessary.  In any case USE THE SEALS.  By doing so you just may persuade someone else to donate to this good cause.  In closing I wish you and your family a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR.

                               Spotlight on a Lion

Lion George Smith

At a meeting on Thursday, November 5, 1992 Lion Cub George Smith became a Lion and was welcomed into the Dutton & District Lions Club.
Lion George is a life-long member of our community.  He attended the Willey and Iona Station Public Schools.  Secondary School education was obtained at Arthur Voden in St. Thomas.
Over the years Lion George has dabbled in farming, construction, plastering, and worked for the Department of Highways.  He retired in 1996 after working for 25 plus years at the Dunwich Township Roads Department.
For 18 years, Lion George was a member of the Wallacetown Fair Board.  The work he did for that organization was an indication of what he could and would do for the Lions.  He ahs been a member that does get involved in Lionism and haas been a valued member of the organization.  He has held various director positions on our Lions Non Profit Housing Corp and has been requested to oversee many Lions functions.
Lion George has four grown children and 19 grandchildren.
The Dutton & District Lions Club thanks Lion George for his many contributions.

            Poinsettia Care

To care for your poinsettia place in full sun.  Leaves may drop if it doesn't have enough light or if the air is too humid.  Keep the soil moist, and with proper care the plant should last for many months.
