NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2002
====================================================
Seeing as last newsletter we discussed Thanksgiving,
I thought the appropriate thing to discuss this
newsletter was Christmas, New Years, and the winter
season in general, as well as add to your vocabulary by
showcasing some antonyms, directional words, and time-
measurement words.
-----------------------------------------------------
The Season
into. Unfortunately, there is no Quenyan word for Christmas
(since obviously they didn't have it - there is no Jesus
in fantasy books and therefore no Christmas).
New Years Day is referred to as "Yestarë". It means the
first day of the year, and "Haranyë" is the last year of a
century (which we experienced 2 years ago). "Khelek" refers
to ice or glass, but "helcë" can also mean ice. "Asta" means
month (the plural is "astar") and "atendea" is the term for
a leap year. "Ceranar" is a solar year and "loa" is a calendar
year.
-----------------------------------------------------
Time Measurement
their calendars being strictly followed, but they did note
the passing of time and judged most things by seasons or the
position of the sun/moon/stars. Starting with the sunrise
"anaròrë" and proceeding to the dawn "àra", you get into the
morning "arin" and then the daytime "arië". Later on we get
into the evening "sinyë" or "hui" and end the day "aurë" with
sunset "andunë".
-----------------------------------------------------
Directions
is "hyarya" and right is "forya". And the directions are as
follows: North is "Formen", East is "Ròmen", South is
"Hyarmen", and West is "Nùmen".
------------------------------------------------------
Antonyms
on today's vocabulary. I won't give you the whole list,
because that would be too much, but I'll give you the common
ones:

"nindë" - slender "tiuca" - fat
