Dear Clissy,
Do not be afraid of your friends leaving you. If they truly are your friends they will not, and they will respect you if you get the idea accross that you are serious about this. Have definitions and books ready when you tell your friends, but wait for them to ask what it is. If a friend laughs, don't get defensive. Instead, calmly tell them that it is really important to you and that it hurts your feelings when they laugh.
