Dear Delriece...
I am new to the craft, and still doing lots
of research. My question is: is ritual nessisary? If circumstances
make it impossible to preform rituals often (such as living in a college
dorm) can a sort of "prayer" be as effective?

Dear Shadowlight,
Of course I can't tell you what is "required" for your own personal spiritual growth, but I will say that I feel ritual is very important in attuning with and honoring deity as well as practicing the manipulation of energy. And since I too lived in a dorm during my years in college, perhaps I can offer some tips!
First, if you have a room-mate, it's time to spill the beans and let them know you need some time alone and make a date and a time with them so you can have some peace. Your next problem is probably space. You don't have to cast your standard circle that is nine paces in diameter. Simply throwing your hand out and tracing a line on the walls with your mind can help you form a smaller bubble of energy. Another issue you may have is that you aren't allowed to have candles or incense. During my time in college I used four stones each time to mark the corners and act as energy resevoirs instead of candles. If you need a representative of the energy of air you can blow bubbles!
