Analysis Terms

Pace -Relatively constant speed of the employed skate and body around a figure with minimal acceleration and deceleration (after the initial strike-off) .Constant rhythm and flow of the figure.

Tracing- The curve of the employed skate in a constant arc which superimposes the painted line. Note: When skating the crown of a Loop, the tracing is determined by the trailing wheels only.

Skate Length -The measurement of the skate from axle to axleis used to determine the depth of turns, strike zones, etc. Axles (axis of the wheels) are used to determine skate length since it is at that point where the wheels make contact with the skating surface.

Cusp Length -The distance from the beginning of the entry shoulder to the end of the exit shoulder of the cusp of any turn.  A. Three turns: no more than 1-1/2 skate lengths. B. All other turns: no more than one skate length.

Turn Length -For the purpose of judging, the turn length shall include the distance of 1 meter before and 1 meter after the cusp of any turn, showing the entry and exit edges of the turn.

Cusp Depth -The distance from the tangent of the painted line to the apex of the cusp. A. Three turns: 1 skate length; no more, no less. B. All other turns: 1/2 skate length; no more, no less.

Note: In conformance with CIPA Regulations, all turns must be accomplished with at least three wheels on the skating surface during the turn itself.
