ODC Layering Standards

Layers & Saved Layer States

This section is currently under construction and contains information which may not be accurate. The Layer States information, in particular, is only a proposed application, by the WebMaster.

Layers Lists

In using Xrefs with Autocad2000, it becomes quite evident that the apparent redundancy of layers can be cumbersome. To this end, I have proposed the following guideline for creating layers on the various levels of drawing (Xref, Host, Plot, etc.).

Layer Names - A Rule of Thumb
Layer names with a letter designation prefix, such as "A-" or "M-", etc., contain elements which are part of the new work. Conversely, layer names without such prefixes contain only elements which are existing and unchanged.

Saved Layer States
The simplest way to explain the advantage / function of this feature is as follows:
Once a viewport is set up to display a class of characteristics, for example, the demolition plan, the layer settings (on/off, frozen/thawed) for that particular viewport can be saved for reuse in later projects, readily and easily.

By implementing my proposed Xref Naming guidelines this office will be able to set up the proposed Saved Layer States.
