Using Saved Layer States

Overview

While working within a given drawing file, it may be beneficial, if not necessary, to save layer settings depending on the task being performed. For instance, when working on a reflected ceiling plan, there are several layers that need to be turned 'off', or 'frozen', to make the job less confusing while changes are being made. By storing the settings, valuable drafting time that would otherwise be spent to manually turn on or off and freeze or thaw various layers in a drawing window can be saved.

Layer lists vary from one level of drawing to the next. That is, the layer list in the base sheet appears differently than it does in either the plotted sheet or the trade-specific sheet, (You can compare the layer lists by clicking here and looking at the leftmost column)

Therefor, different layer state files need to be implemented, depending on the level of drawing file that the Autocad operator is in.

  • While working within a plotted sheet, it is important that you import the following saved layer state file:
    "G:\Chris B\autocad\saved layer states\PLOTTED_SHT_LAYER_STATES.lay."

  • While working within the Base plan, it is important that you import the following saved layer state file:
    "G:\Chris B\autocad\saved layer states\X-PLAN_LAYER_STATES.lay."

  • While working within a plotted sheet, it is important that you import the following saved layer state file:
    "G:\Chris B\autocad\saved layer states\XA-PLAN_LAYER_STATES.lay."
