Terms and Abbreviations
The following list contains terms and definitions that are not necessarily proprietary to AutoCad, AutoDesk and/or any of its affiliates. The list is comprised of words and phrases that are particularly relevent to this web site, and any other significance is coincidental.
- Base Sheet (or Base Drawing)
- This is the "Ground Zero" drawing; All information is drawn in Model Space only. A Minimal number of layers must be maintained here, as this drawing is later converted (cleaned up) for archiving as the Campus Space Planning Drawing. Sometimes called X-Plan.
- Bound Drawing
- A drawing file in which the Xrefs within it haver been bound.
- Insertion Layer
- The layer that was current when a given block was inserted to a given drawing file (Generally, Layer '0').
- Host Drawing
- Any drawing which contains an xRef.
- MS
- The abbreviation for Model Space.
- PS
- An abbreviation for Paper Space.
- Plottable Sheet
- The drawing which will ultimately be plotted. It is a second generation host drawing.
- Xref (noun)
- Any drawing referenced by another is an Xref (X-Reference)
- Xref (verb)
- The act of referencing another drawing to the current drawing.
- X-Plan
- (Or baseplan) The base floor plan which contains walls, doors, windows and stairs, only, and is Xref'd into other host drawings.
- XA-Sheet
- The first generation host drawing for the Architectural Trade. Contains secondary architectural elements not shown on the X-Plan.
- XM-Sheet
- The first generation host drawing for the Mechanical Trade.
- XP-Sheet
- The first generation host drawing for the Plumbing Trade.
- XE-Sheet
- The first generation host drawing for the Electrical Trade.
