The Story ::: What is it?

In 1968 Dr. Huevelmans found an exhibit in a state fair called the Minnesota Iceman. On looking closely at the specimen, buried in a block of ice, Dr. Huevelmans became convinced that it was no crude hoax as he had expected. The more he looked at it, the more convinced he became. On a subsequent visit he even succeeded in scraping away some of the ice where the creature inside was not buried so deeply, and said that the creature smelled of fresh meat.. As shown on the photograph, the creature had a smian appearance, not unlike an artist’s impression of an early hominid.

The exhibit’s owner, Frank Hansen became alarmed by Dr. Huevelman’s interest, and he disposed of the iceman, claiming that it had been a fake all along. Interestingly the Smithsonian Institute then came out and said that they were aware of Hansen’s iceman, and were satisfied that it was a fake.

Lovers of conspiracy theories should take note. Hansen was with special forces in Vietnam,. The jungles of Vietnam are as likely a place as any for a previously unknown creature to be hiding. Huevelmans remarked that he believed he could discern bullet holes, as if the creature had been shot. The creature could then have been smuggled back to the USA in a body bag.All highly illegal, hence Hansen’s anxiety. But what incentive would there be for the World- Respected Smithsonian have to back up his story ? Unless, by some chance , they now have possession of the carcase of a creature previously unknown to Science ?-

-A much more detailed version of the story can be read here.-

Bernard Heuvelmans on the Iceman:

"The specimen at first looks like a man, or if you prefer, an adult human being of the male sex, of rather normal height (six feet) and proportions but excessively hairy. It is entirely covered with very dark brown hair three to four inches long. Its skin appears waxlike, similar in color to cadavers of white men not tanned by the sun...The specimen is laying on its back...the left arm is twisted behind its head with the palm of the hand upward. The arm makes a strange curve, as if it were that of a sawdust doll, but this curvature is due to an open fracture midway between the wrist and the elbow where one can distinguish the broken ulna in a gaping wound. The right arm is twisted and held tightly against the flank, with hand spread palm down over the right side of the abdomen. Between the right finger and the medius the penis is visible, laying obliquely on the groin. The testicles are vaguely distinguishable at the juncture of the thighs."

What is it?

Bernard Heuvelmans was convinced that the Minnesota Iceman was in fact a Neandertaloid. Other authorities including Mark A. Hall, felt that the Iceman was more likely Homo erectus. I personally think the Minnesota Iceman is an Almas. And since I think Almasty are Neanderthaloids, I believe the Minnesota Iceman is in fact a Neanderthaloid, like Heuvelmans suggested.

To the left is a picture of an Almas and to the right is the Minnesota Iceman, note the similarities...

Other Possibilites

1. Bigfoot. Many people suggest the iceman could be a juvenile Bigfoot. I really dont think so. This creature looks too human to be Bigfoot. The iceman was estimated by Heuvelmans to be about 6 feet tall. At 6 feet a Bigfoot would almost be adult, the average male is about 8 feet. So at 6 feet, I would think a Bigfoot would be heavier and much more solid than the iceman. Thats just opinion though, and I could be very wrong. If the iceman was really shot in Minnesota, then the odds would raise dramatically for it being Bigfoot.

2. Homo Erectus. This is another strong possibility. I think the survival of Erectus is much more unlikely than the survival of Neanderthal, but they could still be living. No one knows for sure If Erectus had hair, but it could have, like Neanderthaloids could have. I think the iceman could physically be Homo Erectus, but because I think their survial today is unlikely, I think Neanderthaloid is a better choice.

3. Orang Pendek. If the iceman was shot in Vietnam or that area, like many sources say, than the iceman could be an orang pendek. It would have to be a big male though. And usually Pendeks are described as more ape-like and usually with red hair. But again, if it was shot in Vietnam or that area, than Orang Pendek has to be a candidate, or maybe the lesser known Orang Dalam from the same general area.

4. Nguoi Rung. The Vietnamese wildman. This is a strong possibility. At times the Iceman was said to be shot in Vietnam, which would make the Nguoi Rung an obvious candidate. If the Iceman is a N.R. than that could make the N.R. a Neanderthaloid, but that would be doubtful considering Neanderthals didnt make it close to that far East, OR it could make the N.R. a Homo Erectus type creature, which is more likely because of the area.

5. A Hoax. More to come on this soon...

Conclusion. The physical description and pictures match the Almasty. The size does. And most of all, if an "unknown" hominoid was shot, I would put my money on it being an Almasty. They were common among the people in the regions they lived in, while the other creatures always seem shy and elusive. The best chance of getting one of these creatures would be to go for the Almasty. Therefore, I think the Minnesota Iceman is an Almas, but I easily could be wrong and the Almas and Iceman could both be Homo Erectus. The Nguoi Rung is also a very strong possibility. If by chance the Iceman is a Nguoi Rung that would probably make the Iceman a Homo Erectus, which also could make the Almasty a Homo Erectus, because I doubt both H. Erectus AND Neanderthal could still survive. One downfall of the H. Erectus possibility is that in the fossil record H. Erectus was very similar to humans postcranially. The pictures of the Iceman dont really seem to be that close to a human body. One thing is for sure though, the Iceman definitely brings up some interesting possibilities!
