On February 18, 1998, Jamal Hart, the 26 year old son of Mumia,
was sentenced to 15 years and 6 months, followed by 5 years parole, on a “gun
posession” conviction. Police claim they found a gun after Jamal allegedly ran
a stop sign. Hart says he did not run a stop sign. He claims that police planted
on a gun on him and threatened to kill him because he was the son of a "cop killer."
Mumia has written: "[Jamal’s] transfer represents punishment before trial, as
his bust itself is punishment for his efforts on behalf of his dad.”
Francine Hart, Jamal's mother says, "They are out to get him because he was speaking
up for his father. They know this will break Mumia's spirit."
