Chapter1:Meatballs and Porkbuns by:Hotte Keki ********************************************************************** Usagi sat down at the coffee table. She folded her long legs under then asked,"What's up mom?"She secretly thought she knew though, it was almost the end of the school year and they were probably going to have that "Yay Bunny passed!" party again. She wondered what they would get her this year. "Well honey, your father and I need to tell you something very important." Mother looked a little worried when she said this, not knowing at all what her Bunny's reaction would be to hearing this news. Usagi-chan mistook her mother's look for one of anger,"Look mom, if this is about that stain on the hallway carpet, it wasn't me, Shingo was carrying a pie to his room, and I. . .," she was cut off abrutly by her mother. "It's not about that at all, but now that you mention it. . .", Ikuko made a face that made her daughter very unconfortable and very afraid as well. . . "Now, Sweetheart," Papa Kenji began,"We really weren't going to discuss _that_ right now." He shifted his position slightly and took a sip of tea before he spoke again . "Well, I guess there's only one place to begin, the beginning. Usagi-chan,when you were younger, just a baby really,we were very poor. One night a man with a white handkerchief on his head came to our door. He was seeking shelter from the cold winter night. He carried a small boy with him,not much older than you. We felt sorry for these people so we invited them into our cabin." "Cabin?",asked Usagi suspiciously,"We lived in a cabin? Idon't remember that!" She grabbed one of the fresh chocolate chip cookies on a plate on the table. *My parents are _such_ bad liars! What does a cabin have to do with my party?* She resisted the urge to smile and made a face instead, pretending to believe what they were saying, * A cabin? Yeah right!* "Of course you don't remember sweetie," her mother reassured her, "You were so young, and we were very poor. . . . The man introduced himself as Saotome Genma. He was an expert martial artist, and the heir to a great and prestigious school. He was on a training mission with his son and hadn't eaten in days. We couldn't really offer him anything to eat because we were saving up the little food we had to feed you." Usagi frowned,"What are you saying (CHOMP) that I'm a pig?" Ikuko sighed, "No, of course not dear, you were just a growing girl. The man made a deal with us. You would be married to his son Ranma in exchange for some food. Your father and I took the offer because we felt it was a wise choice, considering that we didn't have much money and probably couldn't afford to send you to college. At least as an heirress to a dojo you would be financially set, so we said yes." Usagi sat dumbfounded, with a blank look on her face. She opened her mouth to say something, but no sound would come out. Papa Kenji cleared his throat to speak,"Unfortunately, the man took all of our food and departed in the middle of the night. We were rather upset about it. But eventually we decided to take him up on his offer. We've managed to find his recent address now through a private detective agency. We would like you now to go and claim your right as Ranma's fiancee." Usagi blinked. She couldn't believe this, it was like out of a bad manga, arranged marriages, fishy food deals, cabins, and a husband, at her age?She was _supposed_ to be talking about party plans, _not_ craziness like this! "Let me get this straight. You want me to go find this strange guy and just go and get married to him? Just go up to him and say, 'Hey! Come and get me big boy! I want to marry you' like that? Huh?" "Basically, yes," her parents nodded in agreement."Well, it doesn't look like you could go to college anyway with the grades your getting, and they're not exactly improving over time. So we want you to go find this boy starting tomorrow morning and we're sorry, but you can't come back here until he agrees to marry you. Well, we're off to bed now. See you in the morning Bunny." Her parents kissed her cheek then headed up the stairs to their room. Usagi was in an unbelieved state of confusion. *Great, oh this is just wonderful, first an alien cat comes into my room in the middle of the night, telling me that it is my duty to protect humankind. My teacher is purposely making me fail my tests, evil negacreeps are after me all night so I get no sleep, Naru-chan is mad at me won't talk to me anymore, now this? My parents go nuts all of the sudden and go engage me to a total stranger??!!?? Oh well, I should have expected it all along.* She finished the last of the cookies *I deserve them!,* and then started to work her way upstairs to take a nice hot shower. On the third step up she tripped. Bunny couldn't help it,the tears just poured out in a gushing mini-waterfall. Not for the first time this week she cried out, "Oh, why does this stuff have to happen to me! Why can't I just be a normal girl?" ***3 hours later*** "MOON. . .TIARA. . .MAGIC!!" > >> >>>> >>>>>> >>>>>>>>>> \ I / >>>>>>>>>>>>**************************************- BOOM - / I \ An octopus monster's ugly tentacles dissolved into a stinking liquid goo, then evaporated. His gross and deformed fetus-head still writhered around the hard concrete, chasing the girls and oozing out a poisonous liquid. Sailor Mercury wisely let out a blast of her bubble mist to distract the beast and Mars knocked him off balance with her fire attack. Sailor Moon hit him one more time and he collapsed finally, dead. Another trecherous and deadly nega-foe had been defeated by the positive powerof the moon. "Great job Sailor Moon!, Sailor Jupiter commented when the battle was over. She ran over and patted her dear friend on the back. She thought to herself, *Bunny seemed really preoccupied throughout the whole fight, she had to be kept out of the way of danger by us scouts more than usual.* "Thanks,"Sailor Moon nodded. *Just where did that babe Tuxedo Kamen go? He didn't even say goodbye, that is so unlike him!* Usagi was slightly upset at the way Mamo-chan had been treating her recently, just showing up at the last minute of a fight then abruptly leaving. He never carried her around in his arms any more like she loved him to do, or rush over to her side when he thought she had been injured, and it was making her feel so bad and lonely for him. A flap of red and black velvet cape dissapeared into the shadows of the night's darkness. *********************** Mamoru couldn't bear seeing her, not after the dreams he was having every night. She was getting hurt, or worse, and there was nothing he could do to stop it from happening. It made Mamoru's tender heart ache terribly to know that he wasn't anything but a burden to her, but he couldn't tell her how he felt. No one could understand how frightenening the dreams were to him. No, she couldn't know. *I have to stay away from her,* he told himself firmly, *It doesn't matter that it hurts now, the only important thing is that my princess is safe.* Mamoru climbed into bed and turned off his small bedside lamp, settling down to another night of painful dreams. ~~~~Early the next morning~~~~ . . . . At the Tendo Dojo. . . . Kasumi smiled pleasantly to herself and to the morning sunshine drifting through the sheer fabric of the kitchen curtain as she finished making breakfast for the family. She would just let the cinnamon rolls finish baking as she went to the laundry room to get the day's mending. It seemed that since the Saotome's had joined the household that alot more clothing ended up with rips, tears, and burns. Even Nabiki, who was rarely the sort to resort to violence had holes in a few of her shirts! Not that Kasumi minded really. Oh no!, Kasumi never minded anything. Usually, the comforting and pleasant aroma of the morning breakfast would spread enticingly through the house and wake everyone in the morning. But not on _this_ particular morning! Akane peeked into the kitchen. *Good*, she thought, *Kasumi is gone.* She hurried over to the refrigerator and reached into the far back of the bottom shelf where she left the unbaked porkbuns she had prepared the night before. *I hope he likes them,* Akane thought, remembering how she carefully stirred together the ingredients. She now put them in the oven so that they would be ready to put in their lunch sacks in time for school. Akane then hurried upstairs for a quick morning bath. Ranma was actually the next person to wake up,since his nose was ultra- sensitive to all food smells. *Ahhh, yes*, he thought,*Bacon, eggs, orange, no make that grape juice, oatmeal, burning porkbuns, cinnamon rolls, ap...* "BURNING PORKBUNS!!!!" Ranma rushed downstairs and without even pausing to put on oven mits, pulled the flaming food from the oven. He threw it in the sink and immediately turned on the faucet and let the cold water run until it put out the fire. ***************** Kasumi entered the kitchen followed by Akane. Kasumi saw the mess in the sink and in the oven,"Oh my!", she declared. Anyone who knew Kasumi well, could tell she was very upset. She set to work, first placing plastic dishwashing gloves over her delicate hands. Akane looked at the ruined buns, then at Ranma who stared with a blank face, then at the buns again, then whacked Ranma hard on the head with her huge wooden hammer. *How could he do that?! That jerk!* "You jerk! I cannot believe you would stoop so low! Hmph!" "Man Akane, what the heck was that for?!" Ranma felt the usual confusion that followed after Akane hit him. *What did I even do?* "You ruined my porkbuns on purpose just because you knew I was making them for our lunch and you didn't want to try any more of my food!!!" Akane hoped that Ranma couldn't see the hurt tears that were starting to work there way up to her eyes. *I hope he feels bad about what he did!* *I can't believe her!! Sure, I may refuse to eat her cooking, but I wouldn't deliberatly destroy it!* Ranma angrily spat back,"I was extinguishing them because they were on fire, and everyone's life was at risk thanks to your cooking and not just my life this time, and _I_ saved them, so there!!" Akane glared coldly at Ranma and he felt his courage shrivel slightly under her gaze. She icely responded, "Oh, don't worry about _them_ Ranma, it's your own safety you need to be concerned with." She left the kitchen, casually, but suggestively twirling her hammer about. **************** Akane let out a deep and pitiful sigh when she closed the door to her room. *Why do I always have to overreact like that!? He was only trying to help.* She lay down on her bed and stared at the ceiling, thinking about things betwen her and Ranma. *Maybe if my temper just wasn't so bad we would have a better relationship . . . I mean, friendship. You can't expect people to like you if you always are angry at them.* Akane pulled a pillow from beside her on the bed and hugged it to her chest, thinking. After a minute of silent contemplation, she got up out of bed, realizing it must almost be time for breakfast. Akane walked to the bathroom, then washed her face, trying to wipe off the tears that had managed to find there way down her smooth cheeks. "Straighten up, girl," she told her reflection. Akane resolutely put on a hard, emotionless face before she made her way downstairs. *Be strong . . . Be strong* ****************** Ranma waited in the living/dining room for the rest of the household to wake up. One by one Kasumi greeted them, "Good morning, breakfast is ready on the table." Akane was the last to come down from upstairs, and boy did she look ticked off. Ranma shrugged it off as best he could though and went to work selecting his breakfast. After what had happened this morning he could only eat light.Just some toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal, waffles,a muffin, a biscuit,an omelot, and a glass of orange juice. He was just about to devour a plateful of omelot when the doorbell rang.*Who would come this early,* he thought, *and since when did anyone bother using the front door?* Kasumi straightened her apron (which was already perfect) in front of the hallway mirror and then answered the door.A cute, blonde schoolgirl with two distinctive buns in her hair stood at the doorstep. "Um hello,"she said shyly, "I'm looking for the Saotomes,Genma and Ranma. This is wrong no," She began to turn around when Kasumi touched her gently on the arm. "Yes, this is the right place," Kasumi smiled pleasantly, "They're just beginning breakfast right now, please come in." She helped the girl set down her book bag inside the hallway closet and led her to the room where everyone was absorbed in eating. "Mr. Saotome, a friend of yours is here to see you." Usagi drew in her breath and faced the man that was to possibly become her second father, the man with the white handkerchief. "Hello Mr.Saotome."She smiled her best oh-my-god-what-am-I-doing-here-please-don't-let-yourself- faint smile. "Who are you?," the man growled like a bear,"I've never seen you before in my life. What do you want? After a brief moment of stage fright, Bunny cleared her throat, "Well, sir, my name is Usagi Tsukino. I am betrothed to your son Ranma." The boy who had been slurping cereal in the corner suddenly and loudly dropped his bowl. Soun Tendo leapt from the floor and pounced on his olf friend."What's the meaning of this Saotome!?" Ranma too leapt up quickly, "Yeah old man," he said, pulling his dad's arms behind his back, twisting them around in painful positions." What does she mean? You hadn't dare go do this to me again! "Again?,"Usagi asked, immensely confused. A girl with short hair and a sour expression on her face glared at her. "Ranma already has 3 steady fiances that we know of and countless other people trying to marry him every week." "Really???," Bunny asked, newly interested, she looked at the boy Ranma and he nodded in agreement. Bunny looked at him. Yeah, she could see that he would actually be kinda hot if he didn't have milk dripping down his chin and a Cheerio stuck to his forehead. "Well, my parents kinda told me not to come home empty-handed . . .," she said, remembering the conversation from last night. Akane shrugged at the girl, dismissing her quite coldly, "Too bad honey, 'cause it looks like you're gonna have to." * There, that should take care of her!* Akane smirked. Usagi thought quickly(hey this is my story, and I say it is possible for her to do this),"Fine,"she said,"but I'll be back later this afternoon so we can talk about this rationally, but I'm late for school now." She headed to the closet, grabbed her bag, and hurried off to school, praying that today she wouldn't be late. On a whim, Akane grabbed her handy hammer and bonked Ranma on the head with it. "What was that for?", he asked angrily, rubbing his new bump.He tried to eat some more, but the disturbing interruption had made Ranma miss his breakfast. "You jerk! If you don't know why, then you're even more of a jerk than I thought. Come on, we're late for school." Akane ran out of the house, not waiting for Ranma to catch up, it wasn't like he couldn't do it anyway. ******** Akane and Ranma ran side by side. Her along the bridge, he on the thin wire fence that ran around it. They turned the corner just in time for Akane to see a visibly angry Shampoo standing in front of the school. Her hands were placed defiantly on her hips in a way that said, "I mean serious business." Akane knew because that was the way she stood alot of the time. *What does _she_ want?* Ranma saw Shampoo waiting for him outside the school. *Oh great*,he sighed then started to crouch into defenseposition in case of a possible potion or suprise attack by Mousse. "Ranma!", Shampoo gave her future husband a fierce look that doesn't take an Amazon to know. "What's this Shampoo hear of Ranma get new fiancee?" "What??!! How did . . er" Ranma was shocked beyond belief, *How does she find out about these things so soon? I wouldn't be surprised if Nabiki...* Shampoo shook her head at him, purple locks hitting him in the face,"Some U-soggy girl, why you no let Shampoo come and defeat her?" "Why would you want to pick a fight with someone you haven't even met?" Ranma groaned, *I can't believe how violent she is!* "So Ranma marry Shampoo, . . . . why else?" Shampoo was confused at that question. *What did Ranma mean? Doesn't he know?* Akane abruptly burst into their happy little conversation. "Look Shampoo, we are late for school now, you are completely beyond the capabilities of professional help, and I'm tired of wasting my time with you. C'mon Ranma." She grabbed his hand and dragged him off into the building. Ranma felt slightly relieved as Akane started to drag him away, *I don't need to handle this right now, I should be nice to Akane later fo this,* he thought. Shampoo stood on the empty lawn and looked on at the two with a cold, determined look in her eyes.Shampoo knew that she was willing to do anything it took to get Ranma. "You no get my husband, rabbit-girl. Shampoo take care of pervert tomboy late, but now, she get you." ************************** Usagi saw her friends Minako and Makoto waiting for the bell by the fountain. "Hey girl, what are you doing awake so early?, asked Minako, laughing, when she saw her. "I woke up early to go meet my new fiancee," Usagi said slyly, hoping not to cause too much attention, just a little. Minako and Makoto looked at each other in amazement and then shrieked loud enough that Usagi was sure the whole school could hear. "You're engaged!!! Who?, what?, when?, where?, Why?? Tell us everything!" Makoto dragged her over to the bench near by and sat her down with a thud. Usagi began with the beginning, "Well, his name is Ranma Saotome, and my parents arranged the match when I was a baby." "Ranma Saotome . . . .," Minako said, tapping her index finger to her chin, "Where have I heard that name before??? Oh yeah, I know! In my ~Tokyo Teen Magazine~ he was named as one of the 25 cutest guys under 18. Here, page 42. She flipped to the page quickly. Her friends were lucky that she was so up to date on teen fashions and news, otherwise they'd be completely hopeless. Makoto eyed the picture over her friend's shoulder then let out an appreciative whistle. "Wow, he is a hunkasaurus, . . . he kinda reminds me of my ex-boyfriend Tom. It says here that he's one of the world's top martial artists. Wow Bunny, you're really lucky." Makoto secretly wished that she could find a guy like that too. Tom was great, but she hadn't met anyone like him since she moved here. Usagi nodded, "Yeah, and so are three other girls..." There was an interesting dramatic pause. "What?!" Minako asked, dropping her magazine, *this is getting _interesting_!,* she thought wickedly. *Okay, so she's my friend, but that doesn't mean I can't know the scoop about her right?* "He has three fiancee's right now and everyone he comes in contact with wants to marry him, and that's just what I found out in two minutes from the girl who lives with him. Plus, my parents won't let me come home without him so I gotta get him fast." She decided to tell them all at once and they could ask more questions later. She waited a minute for her friends to pick their jaws up off the floor. *3 . . . 2 . . . 1* "Wow," Makoto finally managed to say, "that's tough." Usagi sighed, "Tell me about it." The bell rang then and the super girls made their way inside for classes, fighting the urge to stay outside and discuss this interesting turn of events in detail. End of Chapter 1
