¡AJÁ.....BAJA!
|
The Baja Peninsula is well known as a curiosity, even anomaly, in world geography and culture, and is certainly so for travelers. Basically, it presents a necklace of interesting areas, strung on miles of empty miles. Ideal for driving, especially driving something you can sleep in on a deserted beach. Not so fun for people taking buses and looking for hotels. The many good books on the Baja are recommended to travelers, as well as this peninsular travel rundown by the deserted "El Gallo." There is a heavy concentration of energy and sensation at the border, but little of it interesting to snorkle vagabonds. Heavily hit areas include the Sea of Cortez islands, (most unihabited and accessible only by private boats), Conception Bay, Bahia de Los Angeles, the islands off La Paz, and Los Cabos at the tip.

LOCAL WEATHER
The Baja is pretty much known for a conspicous lack of weather, but when it does get wind and rain, it's usually intense. Check the weather maps here for hurricanes or chubascos on the horizon, and bring plenty of sunblock.
