Ways to kill time while waiting to run out of air.
The sports and activities listed here can be the main thrust of your underwater experience, or can be seen as exercises for improving yourself as a diver. Diving is one of those sports like hiking, climbing, roller-skating, frisbee, water-skiing, or hacky-sacking: generally done without scores or championships, purely for its own enjoyment or for competition against the wiliest of rivals, yourself.
Sometimes it's fun to have scores, though, and some people aren't happy without competing. In activities with competition, scoring, championships, records to be set: goals. You can aspire to competing on a national Underwater Hockey team, to spearing and landing a record tuna or marlin, to setting a Free Dive record for depth and duration, to leading the field in a Fin Swimming meet, to taking home the ribbons in an Underwater Photography contest.
But each of these activities also offers more personal rewards at other levels of play: a fun league night at the pool, some tasty steaks, improving your bottom time and agility, building the strength and flexibility of the dolphin kick, having your own framed art and memories.
