TUTORIAL: How to DOWNLOAD and put the files into the SIMS game: [made by ang & dave]

Ok. This took a long time to make, so PLEASE read it carefully, and follow all the steps. If you still cannot understand it, then we cannot help you. We have tried to make this as clear as possible, and this is our last attempt. Any easier, we would have to come to your house and do it for you! LOL.

NOTE: We have Windows XP. The pictures you see below may not look exactly like yours, but you will get the basic understanding of how the process goes. If you cannot see the pictures, then go back to our FAQs/help page, and follow the instructions in Question 1.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD the files from our site:

STEP 1: Click on the object/car that you want to download. Then when a window pops up, like the one in the picture, save the file.

STEP 2: Double click on your hard drive. Most people have a C: hard drive. All you want is to choose a location to save.
STEP 3: Now you will see all the folders in the hard drive. You want to save it under the My Downloads folder. Double click the My Downloads folder. If you don't have one, create a new folder. There is a icon on the top right with a sparkle on the folder. That's to create a new folder. Name it My Downloads.
STEP 4: Once you've double clicked on the My Downloads folder, you can say Save. Make sure you are in the proper folder. Saving may take a few minutes, or a few seconds, depending on your internet speed. If a window opens after you click save, do not close it. The file is just downloading from the site.

*Save all the files you want from the site first with this process. Then when you have all the files you want, proceed to the next steps.*

HOW TO UNZIP the files after you save the files:
STEP 1: Once you have Winzip installed on your computer, then open it. Go back to the FAQs/help page to get the location of where to find Winzip (look at question 5).

Most of you probably have the trial version. If you do have it, then this is the screen that comes up will be this one. Click on the I Agree button. Then it will open Winzip.

STEP 2: Click on the Open icon at the top menu bar. When the open window pops up, click the little arrow pointing downwards (shown in the picture). When the drop down menu comes up, double click on the drive which you saved the downloaded file to (we saved it in the C: drive).

STEP 3: Now you will see all the folders in your hard drive. Go to the folder where you saved the downloaded file (we saved it in a directory called My Downloads). Double click on that folder.
STEP 4: Now you will see the file you downloaded from our site. Double click on the file (or just click the open button at the bottom right).
STEP 5: You will now see all the files that were in the one .zip file you downloaded from our site. To understand what a .zip file is, you'll have to picture it as a bag. Inside the bag contains all the pieces needed for the game. You just needed to open the bag. That's what you have just done in Winzip. The .zip file you downloaded from our site had the files inside, but in a compressed format. This keeps the files in an organized manner, just like a bag does with your stuff. Get it?
STEP 6: Now you'll want to extract the unzipped files to the SIMS game directory for you to see the objects/cars in your game. Double click the Extract icon at the top of the menu bar. An Extract window will pop up, and then you'll have to pick the folder you want the files to go to. We want the files to go to the folder that THE SIMS is installed in. This is where the SIMS CD installs the game by default. Most of you should have your game installed in this directory. If not, you'll have to look for it. Click on your hard drive (ours is the C: drive)

*If you've done the next steps already the first time you extract, you may not have to do it again. Winzip automatically keeps that folder as the extract folder, until you change it. You can just hit extract (if the Extract to box says, C:/Program Files/Maxis/The Sims/Downloads.*

STEP 7: Then all the folders in your hard drive will show up. Look for the Program Files folder. Double click on that.
STEP 8: Look for the Maxis folder. Double click on that.
STEP 9: Look for the The Sims folder. Double click on that.
STEP 9: Then look for the Downloads folder. Double click on that folder, then press the Extract button on the top right corner. The files will now be in the proper folder, and you will be able to view it in the game.

*Do this with all of the files you download from our site. You may not have to choose the folder where the files are going to (C:/Program Files/Maxis/The Sims/Downloads) every time you extract the files. Winzip automatically keeps this folder as the extract folder, until you change it. So you can just hit extract, rather than choosing the folders every time you extract it. If you are using this process for skins, walls, and floors, remember, they go into different folders. Then you will need to change the directory the files will extract into.*

STEP 10: Now play your game! You can buy it for your home, of if you have Hot Date, you can also buy it downtown in the buy/build mode. Your Sims will not be able to do anything with the cars in the downtown mode. They are just for looks. If you still cannot view the object/car in the game, then the files are not in the right folder. We don't know where it is in your computer (we can't see what's in your hard drive). So please, don't e-mail us asking us where it went. We are just trying to make things easier for you. If you don't follow the instructions right, it is not our fault!

HOW EXTRACT WALLS, FLOORS, & SKIN files from our site to your computer:

The process of downloading and saving are the same as objects/cars. The same way you extract object/car files is the same way you would do walls, floors, and skins also. EXCEPT, the folders for EXTRACTING are going to be different. These are the folders:

Skins: C:/Program Files/Maxis/The Sims/Gamedata/Skins
Walls: C:/Program Files/Maxis/The Sims/Gamedata/Walls
Floors: C:/Program Files/Maxis/The Sims/Gamedata/Floors
