The Kindred in Washington D.C.
A dark world, an instant or a heartbeat removed from our own. Creatures of myth are quite real. They waken, move through the night with their own agendas, intricately intertwined with the world of the warm, the living, without whom they could not exist. Vampires, in particular, tend to stay close to the habitations of humanity. After all, predators must stay near the herd. Vampires are also social beings, though less so than the Lupines, they gather together in loose circles whose members share a common ideal of existence. The two largest and most influential such circles are the Camarilla: a traditional sect that believes in retaining the vestiges of the humans they once were. They believe that vampires, or Cainites, must hide their existence from humanity at all costs. The older vampires rule this sect almost unopposed and the younger ones struggle to gather what influence and power they can. The other sect, the Sabbat, is a slightly newer group, though not by much. Forged in the fires of the Inquisition, they believe that they are new beings, no longer human. To retain control of their own destinies they adopted new, inhuman standards of behavior and belief and this is the genesis of the strife between the two sects.
Within the city of Washington, the vampires proliferate at a rate slightly higher than is normal, due both to the actions and concerns of the Prince, one Marcus Vitel of Clan Ventrue, and of the surrounding "difficulties". D.C. is uncomfortably close to several cities, which have fallen to the Sabbat, as well as being the seat of power for one of the Tremere Pontifexes in North America, Peter Dorfman. While this situation makes most Cainites look upon Marcus somewhat favorably, the Primogen tend to be a rather jealous lot, guarding their own sphere of influence vehemently. As long as they maintain their support of Marcus and their efforts to contain the spread of the cancer within the Eastern Seaboard, they are allowed to create progeny almost at will.
Unfortunately, this has created more vampires than is prudent for a city this size, competition is becoming a bit more fierce and the Sabbat is waiting in the wings, watching the city for an opening .. and of course, the city's other supernatural denizens have their own plans and concerns for the city as well ..

RP and APPS
Roleplay for the various Sects will commence approximately a month before the game itself "officially" opens. This will allow players to determine their roles and relative status in the pecking order. This is of particular importance to the members of various Broods, Coteries, and Packs. As well as the Primogen and Prince.
Applications will be accepted immediately for the slots listed below. We encourage creativity, but applicants must understand that certain aspects of their application may have to be changed (with their approval after discussion) in order for the character to fit into the existing city framework. We do not require stats in the applications, as will be seen on the form. Stats will be discussed with passing applicants.
POPULATION
Under normal circumstances, a city the size of Washington might have five, or at most twelve or thirteen, vampires in residence - but circumstances here are anything but normal. The population is grossly bloated.
Most of the Camarilla Kindred are young - many were Embraced locally less than 15 years ago, when the Prince relaxed the requirements for creating a childe, and nearly all those who didn't originate here arrived during that time period. The Clans are distributed as follows:
The Sabbat presence consists of a single small pack, focused primarily on stealth, trickery, and infiltration - spying and intelligence-gathering rather than outright violence. At the moment, they don't have the numbers or individual power to stand up to the Camarilla in a knock-down, drag-out fight. Sabbat will be primarily NPC run, though a very well-done app might be considered as well, with preference given to the clans marked with *'s:
ABSOLUTELY NO INFERNALISTS WILL BE ACCEPTED AS PC'S. EVER. PERIOD. DON'T EVEN ASK.
Anarchs
There are no known, active anarchs in Washington at the moment - although one always wonders about the Brujah, now, doesn't one? While overthrowing Prince Marcus would be quite a coup, he's been rather effective in dealing with overt threats to his leadership.
Other Clans and Bloodlines
Well-thought-out applications will be considered for anything else likely to actually be in Washington. Please stick to clans and bloodlines published in official White Wolf source material - and remember that while originality is good, going off the deep end isn't. Also please note that due to rarity, pressing business elsewhere, and/or simple unsuitability for PC play, apps for the following bloodlines will probably be deleted unread:
Ghouls
For the most part ghouls will be created ICly during the course of roleplay. However, a limited number (five, to be precise) of applications for vassal ghouls associated with accepted vampire PC's will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis. Please see the Mortal+ page for additional information.
