We finally found a highland cow!! These ones were outside a Whisky Distillery in Fort William, January 2001. We stopped on the side of the road to photograph them.

Highland cows are such placid animals. They came right up to us and let us stroke their horns and posed and played for the camera! Wow! They are so beautiful I wanted to stay there all day and watch them, but the frost and biting wind forced us back to the car.

Sunset at Fort William, that same day. This pic was taken looking out to the sea, from the shore. If you click on the picture and look at the larger image, you can almost make out the snow/frost on the sand and rocks.

The highlands are surrounded by many Lochs. These lochs are truly spectacular, with the rolling mountains in the background. The loch pictured is (?). We were there on our way out to Glen Coe in January 2001, and as you can see, it was so cold the loch had become about 80% frozen! We threw rocks onto the ice and watched them skate to the other side.

The road to Glen Coe passes through a series of lakes and the Munroe Mountains. The area is alive with hikers and climbers. This part of Scotland offers amazing treks!

Looking the other way down the same loch. Snow capped mountains overlook the frozen loch. A very peaceful place.
