9/6/02 - Hey there everybody!! Got lots of stuff to tell you about. I’m sure you can’t wait!
First off – SHOWS:
Tomorrow night, I’ll be back up in Dahlonega at The Crimson Moon.
It starts at 8:30 and only costs two bucks. I like playing there,
because I get the chance to play all the stuff that I can’t play
elsewhere. It’s a small, quaint little room with a great vibe,
so I usually lay back and play the slower, folkier (is that a word?!)
numbers for the young people to enjoy. So come on out and have a
root beer with me. And yes, I will be taking requests (the ones
I know, anyway).
Next week is a busy week, and I’ll tell you why. Thursday, the likes of which will be at the Hard Rock Café in Downtown competing to play the 99X Big Day Out (DON’T MISS THIS SHOW!!). On Friday, Debi and I will be doing a tribute to our old band, Liquid Ice. This will feature songs from the old LI catalog as well as some of the newer material you’ve grown to love. AND, I’ll be playing an hour of Michael Luther’s material (he was also in Liquid Ice, but is no longer in the Atlanta area). It’ll be fun for sure. THEN... On Saturday I’ll be playing at the Cotton Club (under the Tabernacle across from Centennial Park) as part of the TourBaby Atlanta Showcase. Click the link for all info about it. There’s a bunch of great talent at this thing, and I’d hate for you to miss it. That’s next week for me. Whew!
Secondly – WEBSITE UPDATES
I’ve been working tirelessly for the past couple of days making
the website make more sense. I’ve consolidated a lot of it into
single pages. SO check it out, and
let me know what you think. Sign The Guestbook, too. But
most importantly: KEEP COMING BACK!!! There’s a ton of new
content coming very soon, including weekly MP3’s of various
things that I’ve got laying around, and new contests and giveaways.
Plus, all mailing list subscribers get first dibs on all the free
stuff. So, if you haven't already joined the
mailing list, do it now. Also, tell your friends and family
to sign up for the newsletters, and they too can get free shwag!
More details about that will follow shortly.
Finally – TONIGHT
If you just can’t wait until next Thursday to see
the likes of which play, come out to CJ’s Landing tonight.
I’ll be there looking for someone to talk to. I hope to see you
there. LOW takes the stage at 9:30. And the set is gonna rock!!!
I’ll be in touch real soon. Don’t be a stranger, join the mailing list & sign the guestbook. Get yourself some free stuff! See you soon -- ms

[in other news] I posted a poll on my Hubba site. So, go HERE to vote for your favorite song on A Progression of Sorts. You have to sign up as a user of Hubba, but don't worry it's free, and they won't send tons of spam to your email. They don't bite, either.
[in other, other news] twelvedollarpen has just released it's debut EP, entitled "My Favorite". It's got 4 songs on it (one from each of us) and sounds pretty cool. Go check it out. Plus, if your in Decatur next Thursday (the 18th), come check us out at the Azul Blue Bar from 9:30 to 11:30. You can get your copy of the EP then.

7/1/02 - Hi everyone. got a cool website for you to check out. just got it setup through hubba.com and i think it looks pretty neat.
Been keeping myself plenty busy with The Likes of Which and the notorious twelvedollarpen these past few weeks. but things are gonna be picking back up here real soon for me. i've updated the website recently (w/i the past few weeks), and there's a ton of new shows coming up really soon.

the past few months. It's been creepy! We'll see you all real

6/25/02 - Just updated the live page with a bunch of cool new shows for you to check out. More will be added soon. Sorry if there has been any confusion about a few recent shows. Things have been kinda nuts lately, but I hope to get back on the job of keeping you all updated real soon. Thanks for your patience, and I'll see you real soon. be seein ya' -- ms
5/14/02 - Hey guys. A quick little update is what I've got for you. I'll be playing on Saturday night at 9pm at bluemilk (aka Paridigm Artspace) for their Portal Opening #3. What's that, you ask? Here's a brief description courtesy of bluemilk.net:
A Portal Opening" is a multimedia art party that blurs the lines between stage and audience by offering everyone who walks through the door with the opportunity to be creative. In addition to showcasing featured artists and performers, Portal Openings allow participants to take the stage with a poem or a song; join in the collaborative painting of a number of canvases located throughout the artspace; sing, dance or play beats in an outdoor drum circle; participate in a video recording session in which audience members tell a collaborative story throughout the night; or simply engage with the artwork on a meaningful level by hanging out with the artists who created it. There is no limit to your creativity when the portal is open."
Now, for all you artistic types, doesn't that sound like a hell of a way to spend an evening?! The whole night starts at 8pm and lasts until midnight. I play at 9pm. It's only a 5 buck donation too. What else could you ask for?! It's located on Spring St. in Midtown. detailed directions
I've finally gotten around to adding some more pictures and the lyrics to Listen To The Sea to the site. Check it out. Also, if you haven't downloaded LTTS yet, you still can. Just click on the twisted looking smiley face to the right, and you'll be there. More new content is coming soon.
later -- ms
5/3/02 - Just wanted to drop a quick "thanks" your way. I've gotten a lot of great feedback from you in reference to the free downloads. I'm glad you like the stuff. You can still access & download all of Listen To The Sea, but A Progression of Sorts has only a few songs available. Find the downloads by clicking on either picture to the right or left.
Thanks again for helping me celebrate the birth of my son Justin. Lots of great stuff just around the corner. Make sure you check out the live dates. There's a bunch of chances for you to catch me around town in the coming months.

I always love to hear from you folks.
Also, there are 2 big ol' shows this week. On Thursday, April 11th, you got twelvedollarpen at Eddie's Attic. New songs, new attitude, same old fish. It starts at 8pm with Karen Reynolds & is only 6 bucks to get in. What a bargain!
Friday the 12th, I'll be back at the IF Coffeehouse with Kevin Caran (of TDP) and Natalie Elise. As always, it starts at 9 (I play at 11) and is free.

If you don't see your request on there, it's because I didn't get your email for some reason. My apologies. Let me know if that happened and i'll make it up to you. My email account was giving me grief earlier this week and I may have missed a few. Thanks to everyone who submitted their request. I'll see you all at the show tommorrow.
Here's the line up for the night too. -- ms
LINEUP:
9pm - Debi Taylor
10pm - Taylor Maxson
11pm - Matthew Smith
1/31/02 - Hey there everybody.
Nothing much to report. Debi and I are getting ready to add another member to our ever-growing family. Sometime in the next couple of months we'll be having a little boy to spice up our lives just THAT much more. We'll be playing a show together (the last one for a while) on February 8th at the IF Coffeehouse.
I thought it'd be kinda fun if you picked the songs that I would play. Those of you who have seen me recently know that I've been trying out a whole bunch of new material. SO, I want to give you the chance to tell me what you want to hear. All you need to do is send me an email and let me know, and I'll put it on the set list. I'll post the finished set list here a day or two before the show. That gives you about a week or so to get back to me. I'll play anything that I can pull off (other than Freebird, so don't bother requesting that). Have fun with this, and please be gentle.
The show will be at the IF Coffeehouse on February 8th at 9pm. The line up is still up in the air, but I'll probably go on at 11pm, with Debi Taylor at either 9 or 10 (I'm so unorganized, I know). Someone else will be there, but I'm awaiting confirmation. Anyway you cut it, it's gonna be an awesome night of music that you won't want to miss. I'll let you know more when I know more.
Oh yeah, it's free.
I've kinda' updated the website recently. Added some new pages and what not. Got some links now and uh, some other stuff, so go check it out and let me know what you think. There a new MP3 of "Something Greater" too on the music page. More soon, no kidding.
Have a fun end of January, and I'll talk to you soon - ms
1/20/02 - It's been a busy new year so far, but it's calming down for the next couple of weeks. February should prove to be very busy, though. The Likes Of Which will be doing alot of shows to prepare for the upcoming release of our new EP, "the Kill You EP". Check out the live dates and come out and see us.
twelvedollarpen now have a page set up on starpolish.com. It's still under construction and soon will have some samples from the upcoming CD, "The Greenwood Sessions". check it out here. Those songs should be available in the next few weeks. I'll keep you posted. Also coming soon: TDP will be returning to Eddie's Attic in April. You won't wanna miss it, for sure!
As for me, i'll be doing a little bit here and there between now and April. In March, Debi and I are expecting our second kid (a boy), so i'm taking it slow until after that happens. But, by April or May, the Matthew Smith experience should be back in full swing. I'll be posting some new MP3's for you to sink your teeth into in the meantime.
Keep coming back, it's only going to get better from here!
hugs and kisses -- ms
12/11/01 - Some of you have asked,
"What are your other projects up to?" .... .... .... ....
So, here you go:
twelvedollarpen is working on a CD (finally). It'll be called
"THE GREENWOOD SESSIONS". Hopefully it will be done and ready for
human consumption by, well who knows, really. It'll surely
surprise you, as we are all pushing our limits on it. I'm
excited.
The Likes of Which is also recording these days. We've just finished with the recording of the latest single, "All I Want To Do Is Kill You". It will also be out in the spring, if not sooner. I'm just the guitar player, they don't tell me anything! Also included on the CD will be 2 other Likes of Which favorites that you'll surely dig. Check out the LOW website here.
As for me, I'll be doing a show at the end of December at the Grape, and doing some preliminary recording of my own. Those of you that have been to shows lately know that I've got quite a bit of new material that I've been trying out. I'll be recording some demos of those songs in preparation of future projects. Once I get something together, I'll let you know. Check back often and check out the progress for yourselves.
I've done a bit of (much needed) maintanence to the site. Hopefully soon i'll have some new MP3's for you all to listen to. Until then, make sure you check out the songs there that aren't on the CD. There's 12 of em, so have at it. They're right here.
One more quick thing, for all of you new subscribers, I've added a new page, the typical FAQ page. Click here to get there.
Have a safe and happy holiday season,
ms
