NGC 4565 Edge-On Spiral Galaxy in Coma Berenices

Copyright 2001 Hap Griffin

NGC 4565 is a typical Spiral galaxy viewed almost exactly edge-on.  Used as an example in many astronomy textbooks, it is a favorite target by many amateurs.  It lies at a distance of approximately 35 million light-years.  The faint smudge perpendicular and to its lower right is the 14th magnitude spiral galaxy NGC 4562.
