[Craig knocks on the door and then lets himself in]
Craig: All right, Julia. You didn't take Jack to Carly's place, so where did you take him? Come on, clues, clues, clues.
Simon: Okay, pal don't move and no gets hurt. Turn around nice and slowly. That's it. Easy does it.
Craig: Simon, what are you doing here?
Simon: Ah, nice, I was about to ask you the same question, Craig. What are you doing here?
Craig: If you're gonna rob a house, the least you could do is pick one in a better neighborhood.
Simon: Who needs a credit card when you got a set of keys?
Craig: Why does everyone in this town have keys except me? What are you doing, watering plants?
Simon: Uh, no. They're plastic.
Craig: Then what?
Simon: You first.
Craig: Well, nobody else is doing anything about finding Carly and those women. So I'm taking matters into my own hands. Now you?
Simon: None of your business.
Craig: All right, Katie will be bragging about it sooner or later anyway.
Simon: Oh, no. You cannot tell Katie that you saw me here.
Craig: Why not?
Simon: I don't want her involved.
Craig: In what?
Simon: Look, I don't want to put her at risk, okay? That's all I'm gonna tell you.
Craig: Oh, please, Simon. Come on.
Simon: All right, this has to stay between you and me.
Craig: It will.
Simon: I'm working for the police, helping Margo track down Jack.
Craig: So do I have to call you deputy? Or will you still answer to Simon?
Simon: You can call me whatever you want, Craig. Just don't tell Katie you saw me here. I want to protect her from that psycho Stenbeck. All right?
Craig: All right, well, if you tell me everything you find.
Simon: No, I report to Margo. If she wants to bring you in on this, that's her business.
Craig: Oh come on, Simon.
Simon: No.
Craig: Do you remember how you felt when Katie was lost on that island? Huh? Well, somewhere in this house, there is a clue that will lead us to Carly. Now, if you're not gonna help me, I'm gonna tear it apart on my own.
Simon: All right, fine. Okay. I found this upstairs. It's quite possible that Julia dropped it when she was here.
Craig: Sil -- sildenafil citrate? What's that?
Simon: I have no idea.
Craig: Well, let's find somebody who does.
Simon: What, so this stuff is viagra?
Craig: That's what my doctor said. I guess police work is a little tougher on Jack than we realized.
Simon: That's a pretty soft explanation.
Craig: You mean you think it's a deeper issue?
Simon: Listen, listen. If Jack was taking viagra, he'd be taking it in form, not this -- this -- wait a second.
Craig: What?
Simon: Julia, right?
Craig: What do you mean? You think Julia's worried about her sex drive?
Simon: No, listen, listen, listen, listen. Julia gets sprung from the hospital, right?
Craig: Right.
Simon: She can go anywhere in the world, but she doesn't. She comes back here to Oakdale, straight back here to her ex-husband, carrying this.
Craig: Well, I know she is obsessed with the baby she lost when she was married to Jack.
Simon: Exactly. Exactly. Julia wants Jack to get her pregnant, all right? But she knows how much Jack can't stand her so she brings this for a little bit of friendly persuasion.
Craig: Okay, but so what?
Simon: I don't know. I don't know . Wait, wait, wait. Margo said that Julia did have help getting out of the hospital -- forged papers, money, transportation.
Craig: Stenbeck?
Simon: He's the obvious choice, right? But why would he help her?
Craig: Maybe he knew Jack was on to something, so he sent the crackpot ex-wife to stop him.
Simon: That's possible, I guess. Margo said Jack was on his way to Marseilles though.
Craig: I gotta go. I have to go.
Simon: Where are -- where are you going?
Craig: Wherever will lead me to Carly.
Oakdale Police Department
Margo: Okay. Did you find anything worthwhile?
Simon: Yeah, just a little prescription for sexual longevity.
Margo: Oh, my God.
Simon: Yeah. We think Julia was using it on Jack so he could -- so he could have sex with her.
Margo: What?
Simon: So she could get pregnant. It's just a theory.
Margo: That's good then, actually. It's a reason for her to keep him alive.
Simon: Exactly.
Margo: Okay, so, I'll have this dusted for prints.
Simon: Okay, great. Anything else I can do?
Margo: Hal is back.
Simon: Really? Where's he been?
Margo: He was off trying to find Rose and Carly and Emily. He thought that if people thought he was missing, he'd be more effective.
Simon: And was he?
Margo: No, not that I could tell.
Simon: Did you tell him that I was working for you?
Margo: You know, I don't intend to.
Simon: Why not?
Margo: You know, I don't know how to say this, but Hal is -- well, he's different. I mean, I don't know. Maybe he got hurt while he was away or -- I just think, if we keep Hal in the dark, we've got more of a chance of finding Jack.
Margo: Hal is just -- he's been so unpredictable since he's been back. He's been so strange.
Simon: Dr. Hughes.
Katie: You know, for a married person, you don't that much about being married. I mean, in chapter nine I think it was of "You, Too, Can Stay Married," it talks about laying your cards out on the table. Actually, that's the name of the chapter, and it's over 100 pages.
Katie: Do you know why I hate secrets? Probably because I can't keep them. So, Margo tells me that I should give him his space. And how am I supposed to do that, huh? He just gets to do whatever he wants to do, and I get to know it, but I can't tell him that I know what he's doing.
Katie: I cannot stay mad at you. I love you, and so when I see you I just -- wanna --
Simon: [on the phone] Okay. No, I appreciate you getting back to me. Thanks.
Lucy: Aunt Katie you didn't.
[Simon walks in the door]
Katie: All I'm saying is I just don't see it the way you do. The way I see it, Simon didn't lie about his ex-wife dying.
Simon: Craig. Craig! Craig, can you hear me? Craig, you've got to wake -- Craig, wake up! Craig, you've got to wake up. Where -- where'd they go, Craig? Craig, where'd -- where did Julia take Jack?
Lucy: Okay, do you know anything about fixing computers?
[Jack is trapped inside the car which is slowly sinking in the river. Just as the car fills with water, Simon reaches the shore and sees the car]
[Simon manages to rescue Jack from the sinking car and pull him to shore]
Simon: Hey.
Lucy: The report said that Detective Snyder was in a car that went into the river? And that you and Uncle Simon were there, too.
Katie: [Debating with herself about whether or not to look up information on Simon's ex-wife Monique] You want answers. You want to find out what Simon's been telling you. Yes. No. Ugh! All right, just find Monique's obituary. You don't have to read it. That was fast. What am I doing? What am I doing? This is crazy. This is crazy. What kind of wife searches for dirt on the Internet about her husband? The crazy kind. The paranoid, freaky kind. I should be baking him cookies or buying him guitar picks or something. What kind of true love doesn't have trust along with it? High school. But then again -- oh, this is so wrong.
Katie: Mmm. You are the best husband in the entire world.
Margo: Simon?
Katie: All I really want in the end is Simon and a life in our beautiful, little cottage. And if you can't understand that, then maybe we shouldn't be in business together.
Realtor: You won't find many places like this on the market.
Margo: I'm sorry, Simon. I had to check on Kim.
Margo: Hal, you don't need the gun. Hal, Emily says drop the gun. Hal, you've been programmed. You've been hypnotized. James did this. You need to see a doctor. Dr. Michaels can fix this. Do you remember Dr. Michaels?
Simon: I don't know about you, but I'm not sure Barbara can pull this off.
Katie: Hi! I'm Katie Frasier. You know, Al's Diner meant so much to me in the early years, I thought that I should give something back. So here is a copy of my new workout video.
[Knock at the door]
Katie: Wait, you think Simon -- my Simon -- was suspected of killing his third wife?
Simon: Get out of my house. Get out!
Dahlia: I haven't heard from you in a few days. I was getting worried.
Katie: I saw you following me as I left the cottage. I didn't want to talk to you then, and I don't want to talk to you now.
Simon: Margo, great, I'm glad you're still here.
Craig: Katie? Who's your friend? Cute, kind of shallow. Don't you think?
Margo: Well, we're in luck, Simon. My contact to the FBI was working at his desk late tonight, so he's gonna run a check on Dahlia Ventura. And when he finds out anything, he'll fax us here.
[knock at the door]
Katie: Thing is, I'm good at this.If the tape wasn't any good, those college kids wouldn't have it.
Simon: You Dahlia said what she said, right? Look, she's out for revenge, Katie. She feels guilty that she wasn't around when her sister died, so she's lashing out at me. Oh, come on. Will you please just say something?
Katie: Hey, how are you?
Simon: More of the same when you get a chance, thanks.
Dahlia: Guest of honor, please. I want you to stand right here. I'm going to be making a presentation, and I'm going to be speaking straight from my heart. So I want you to hear every word.
03-04-02 ... Old and Perfect vs. Young and Stupid
Simon: Margo, what are you saying?
Margo: I have no idea.
Simon: You don't trust him? Is that it?
Margo: No, I trust Hal. I just don't know that I trust what's happened to him.
Simon: Okay, look, if you want to hold off on telling him that I'm working for Jack, that's fine with me.
Margo: That's a good idea. Yes, yes. Let's hold off. Thank you, by the way, so much for keeping this investigation a secret. I know that that's difficult, especially for Katie.
Simon: Yes, for Katie.
Margo: Finding this vial of viagra means so much to me. It means that Jack is alive. You don't know how grateful I am for that. You told me, she used to be a nurse, didn't she?
Margo: Oh, you are so right. She would know exactly what to give him. But how could she move him on her own if he was drugged. How could she -- ambulance transport. My father-in-law, Bob Hughes, he's the Chief of Staff over at Memorial. He would have a list of ambulance transports. I'll call him for you. [Margo calls Bob]
Simon: Great. [cell phone rings] Simon Frasier.
Katie: Really? And who is he? Would I find him in the phone book under "long-lost husbands?"
Simon: Hey, honey.
Katie: Snickers wants to know when you're coming home.
Simon: Well, tell her I might be a little late, but I do miss her.
Katie: She misses you, too.
Simon: I'm really sorry about this. I shouldn't be too long. Why don't you go catch a movie with Lucy or something?
Katie: Because I really don't want to check out a movie with Lucy.
Simon: Look, I'll be back soon. Look, I love you.
Katie: Bye.
Margo: Okay. We're all set. Bob's going to send over a list for me.
Simon: Margo?
Margo: What?
Simon: I hate lying to Katie. I can't do it anymore.
Margo: I know, I know, but it's for her own safety to keep her away from Stenbeck. Please, Simon, just focus on this, or you put yourself, you put the entire investigation, you put Katie in jeopardy.
Simon: All right. Sure. All right. Has Dr. Hughes got this list?
Margo: Yeah. And listen, Simon, don't worry about Katie. I'll take care of everything.
Simon: Great. Thanks, Margo. You know how she gets.
Margo: Yes, I do. Officer? Newlyweds, huh? Have this rubbed for prints. Thank you.
Katie: Oh, I am so glad you're here.
Margo: Really? I'm not. Why?
Katie: Something's wrong with Simon.
Margo: What? What happened?
Katie: Well, it's not what happened. It's what didn't happen. He won't explain why he's gone all day and half the night or why he was supposed to be on a plane to Europe and then he's in Oakdale -- and he might as well be in Europe, because I never get to talk to him.
Margo: Hey, you want to hear about my day? I have two cases that I can't solve. Jack Snyder has been hijacked by ex-wife, who's crazy. Hal Munson is here, but he's not really here, which is crazy. And I haven't slept in two days. It's crazy!
Katie: Yeah, you do look awful -- I mean exhausted and pale. Although you know what? I didn't even think it's you. I think it's the color of that shirt that's talking to me.
Margo: You know, I could just hit the top of your head for saying that.
Katie: Oh, Margo, I'm sorry. I just, I need your advice, because that's what sisters are for, and I really need it.
Margo: Well, you know, since you and Simon consider me the Mecca of marital advice --
Katie: What? Simon's come to you, too?
Margo: Oh, yes. Yes, he has. Yes, several times.
Katie: What about?
Margo: About you. He is worried about you and your business relationship with this Dahlia.
Katie: Yeah, well, he and I talked about that. I thought he was fine with me going through with the video.
Margo: Well, maybe he was.
Katie: Did he show you a check?
Margo: No.
Katie: Because I found this enormous check in his pocket while he was in the shower.
Margo: Wait a minute. You go through his pockets while he's bathing?
Katie: Well, it was actually, I found it before he was bathing, but then I looked at it while he was bathing, and I didn't want to say anything to him. I didn't know what to do, so I hid it, and then, when I went back, it was gone.
Margo: Oh, well.
Katie: So this check was made out to him from some woman -- well, a law firm actually, but I was no fool to that. You should have seen the amount of zeroes on this check. It's insane, and I don't know what to do. What should I do?
Margo: You should go home and pat the bunny or exercise or something.
Katie: You're really not supposed to exercise at night. It could keep you up at night. Oh, you know what? You're a genius, Margo -- just genius. Thank you so much.
Margo: You're welcome.
Katie: I am going to go home and exercise and stay up all night so when Simon comes home, there I'll be.
Margo: Great idea.
Katie: No more of this coming in at 2:00 in the morning, not explaining anything, not answering questions. No, no, no, no. Those days are over. I will be awake, and I will be alert, and he will tell me everything that's going on.
[Margo remembering]
Simon: So what do you want me to tell Katie?
Margo: Tell her that the job fell through.
You're not working for me. I found somebody else to do it.
Simon: Why are you so afraid of her?
Margo: You're married to her. Aren't you afraid? Simon, look, I can't have her sticking her well-meaning little nose into this. Three women have already disappeared, and I don't want Stenbeck to get ahold of her.
Simon: He won't. I will do everything in my power to protect Katie.
Katie: You know, I don't even care what it is, it's just that I'm his wife, and I deserve to know.
Margo: You know, Katie, in my vast experience of being a married woman, I found that what a husband really needs is just a little room, both emotionally and psychologically. And as I recall, it took Simon a long time to commit in the first place, right?
Katie: Please. I practically had to starve to death on that island before he admitted that he loved me.
Margo: Okay, so honey, your course of action here is you just ask no questions and see no evil. Just trust him. Trust your husband. Trust your husband, and leave him alone.
Memorial Hospital, Hallway
Bob: Simon. Simon, yeah, Margo told me to expect you. Let me see here. Yeah, this is it -- community travel services for patients. You know, I would start with the private ambulance services. Ours just go back and forth to the hospital.
Simon: Oh, great. That is excellent. Thank you.
Bob: Okay. If I can be of any further help, let me know.
Simon: Actually, actually, the burn unit expansion fund. I missed the benefit, but are you still accepting donations?
Bob: Well, listen, if you and Katie want to throw in a couple of bucks, of course that would be appreciated, but I know how hard it is living on a newlywed's budget.
Simon: Is wasn't exactly part of the budget. It's made out to me, but I've signed it over to the fund.
Bob: Simon, this is more than we raised at the benefit. Are you sure about this?
Simon: Listen, listen, it's just -- look, it was a windfall. I don't want it.
Bob: Well, listen, the hospital can certainly use it, and if you and Katie really feel this generous --
Simon: Listen, Dr. Hughes, Katie doesn't know about this, and I'd really appreciate it if you didn't tell her.
Bob: Well, I can't do that. You'd better talk this over with your wife.
Simon: Look, the money is mine. I do have the paperwork to prove it.
Bob: Simon, I don't doubt that.
Simon: And I'm sure Katie would approve of giving this to the fund.
Bob: Look, I've been married a long time, and if there's one thing I've learned, never take your wife or her opinions for granted. You talk it over with Katie, and if you want to make -- both of you want to make this donation, have a check drawn on your joint account, and I'll hang a plaque in your honor.
Simon: All right, sure. Thank you.
Bob: Thank you.
Simon: And I will be back.
Oakdale Police Department
Margo: Katie, you actually read a whole chapter?
Katie: Well, I was just -- the bookstore was about to close, but I got the gist of it. And it says that he should tell you everything.
Margo: Look, Katie, had you actually even skimmed through that chapter, you would have seen that paragraph about sparing your husband. Look, Simon doesn't need this right now, especially if he's up to his eyeballs in whatever he is up to his eyeballs in. And how are you going to explain finding that check anyway, huh?
Katie: He knows I snoop. It's part of our deal.
Margo: No, honey, that's part of your deal. That's part of your reality. How do you think he feels about it?
Katie: Wait. You don't snoop around in Tom's stuff?
Margo: No.
Katie: Well, excuse me if I'm not old and perfect.
Margo: Well, that's because you're young and stupid, but I will forgive you for that. Honey, listen, just -- just take your time, leave him alone and it'll give you time to figure out how you're going to approach it. It will give you time to figure out what it is that you really want to know.
Katie: I know what I want to know. I want to know who this Monique Ferrara is and why she's giving my husband money and -- you know what? I am sure she is one of his ex-wives.
Margo: Exactly. Ex, Katie. "Ex" as in "no more," as in "kaput," as in "you should leave it alone for now."
Katie: Well, how long is "for now"?
Margo: Until I say so, okay?
Katie: Really?
Margo: Yeah.
Katie: You'll help me be patient?
Margo: Oh, absolutely.
Katie: Cause I need it.
Margo: Oh, yes, yes, yes.
Katie: Oh, thank you. You don't know how special you are. You are the best sister in the world.
Margo: Yes, I am. Now, you have to leave now.
Katie: Okay. Well, I'll call you later and tell you how I'm doing.
Margo: Absolutely.
Katie: Bye, guys.
Katie and Simon's Room, Craig's Suite
Simon: Who are you talking about, Snickers?
Katie: What are you doing here?
Simon: I live here -- with my very beautiful wife and a very talkative rabbit.
Katie: Oh, no, no. Now, see, that's the problem.
Simon: No, no more problems.
Katie: Yes, I can't stay mad at you because I love you. And then you do , and every time I see you I just wanna --
Simon: Me, too. Me, too.
Katie: And then I lose my grip, and I can't lose my grip.
Simon: Lose your grip.
Katie: No, I can't.
Simon: Lose your grip.
Katie: Really?
Simon: Absolutely.
Katie: So you don't need your space?
Simon: I need you.
Katie: Okay. Why did Monique Ferrara give you that check?
03-05-02 ... The State of Nirvana
Simon: Me, too.
Katie: And then I lose my grip, but I can't lose my grip.
Simon: Lose your grip. Lose your grip.
Katie: Really?
Simon: Absolutely.
Katie: So you don't need your space?
Simon: I need you.
Katie: Okay. Why did Monique Ferrara give you that check?
Simon: How do you know about the check -- don't answer. Why do I even wonder?
Katie: Well, I saw you hiding something. So can you blame me for letting my curiosity get the best of me?
Simon: What, so you went snooping through my pockets?
Katie: Well, listen, if I can't trust you to be honest, then how am I supposed to be?
Simon: Listen, you already know that you can trust me. And this isn't about honesty. This is about -- I am asking you to be direct.
Katie: Okay, direct, in exchange for -- ?
Simon: Why does everything have to have a price? Be direct because -- I don't know. It's the right thing to do.
Katie: Oh, yeah, right. Where did that ever get anyone?
Simon: Oh, pardon me. Who did I think I was talking to?
Katie: Okay, now you're making fun of me.
Simon: I'm not. I'm not making fun of you. Well, maybe I am. But in my best and most affectionate way. Let's just forget about it.
Katie: Okay, Simon, tell me something.
Simon: Absolutely. Anything.
Katie: Why is it that you think my attention span is so unbelievably short? The check?
Simon: All right. Listen, I wanted to tell you about the check. I just -- I didn't know how.
Katie: Why not, Mr. "Be direct and everything will be hunky-dory"?
Simon: I never asked for this money, Katie.
Katie: So that big check just fell into your lap? Wow. I wish I had that kind of bad luck.
Simon: I'm telling you, I never wanted it.
Katie: Why not? Maybe because it's from one of your ex-wives?
Simon: That's not really a question, is it?
Katie: No, not really. But you know that I had Henry dig up all that information about you and your ex-wives last year. What, you think I just threw that stuff away?
Simon: What, you have a file on me?
Katie: Yeah. Well, it's more of a scrapbook. Anyway, when I called that law firm that was listed on the check to find out where it came from, they told me it was from the estate of Monique Ferrara. Why is Monique giving you money?
Simon: She isn't. She isn't, no. No. Well, not really.
Katie: Okay, forget about being direct. We'll try my tactic. See this neck? It's all yours for the price of one straight answer.
Simon: The truth is, Katie, the check is an inheritance. Monique is dead.
Katie: I guess you weren't such a bad husband after all.
Simon: I was lousy, believe me.
Katie: Well, obviously not. Monique kept you in her will after you got divorced.
Simon: We never got divorced.
Katie: All right. Are you gonna tell me what happened?
Simon: Are you sure you really want to sit here and hear about me and one of -- one of my ex-wives?
Katie: No, Simon, I'm really not sure that I want to sit here and hear about that, but I'm gonna have to because, otherwise, I'm gonna start snooping again, and then you're gonna hate me, and I'm gonna feel guilty about it. So --
Simon: Or you could just trust me -- trust me, and let this whole thing go.
Katie: I miss us. I miss how it was after we got married. Everything was so perfect, and there were no secrets. It was just us. And I need that back. I need us. So you might as well just start from the beginning.
Simon: All right. All right, I met Monique in L.A. She'd just moved there, and so had I. She was lonely.
Katie: And rich.
Simon: Yep. And I was broke.
Katie: Broke? We, how did -- what happened to all the money from what's-her-name -- wifey number two?
Simon: I'd completely blown it. Spent every single penny. I owed money, too. So it was either marry Monique or face some pretty ruthless creditors.
Katie: So how long did you guys go out before you got married?
Simon: In total? About three weeks.
Katie: Wow, she was an easy one.
Simon: We married in Vegas on a whim. Well, she thought it was a whim, anyway.
Katie: Yeah, right. All part of your plan.
Simon: Yeah. The thing is, Monique was a lot smarter than I gave her credit for. She hired a detective after we got back from our honeymoon.
Katie: What, did he dig up your past?
Simon: In all its gold-digging glory.
Katie: Did she confront you?
Simon: Yeah. Yeah, it was awful. She had this list, kind of like what Henry dug up for you, cataloging all of my dirty deeds. She -- she was crying and shaking and cursing me out saying,"how could you have been so sincere?" What was worse was that she was saying how stupid e was, how blind she was. I just stood there listening to her, seeing myself the way that she saw me. This lowlife creep who had trashed her heart. I felt about that big. I didn't have the stomach to tell her any more lies.
Katie: Did she call the police?
Simon: No. No, that's the thing. I don't know why she didn't, either. I just -- she came from a pretty well-to-do family. I guess she didn't want to make them endure some sort of scandal. She told me to get out. And I'd hurt her so much already, I didn't want to put her through anything more and drag things out, so I just packed my stuff and left. A few days later, I read in the paper that Monique had died in a boating accident. Well, Monique loved to sail. She was really good at it, too. The morning that she went out, there was a terrible storm -- ten-foot seas, 30-knot winds.
Katie: How scary.
Simon: Must've been terrifying.
Katie: Simon, I'm sorry. I really am. I just still don't understand the inheritance.
Simon: Monique never had a chance to change her will.
Katie: Why not?
Simon: Because the day that I packed up and left was the day that Monique got onto that boat and died.
Katie: Simon, that check was for a lot of money.
Simon: Yep. It was Monique's entire estate.
Katie: What about her family? I'm sure they didn't want to let that will stand?
Simon: No, of course not. They fought it tooth and nail. You can imagine how much they hated me. And quite frankly, no, I don't blame them. They must have spent a fortune trying to get it thrown out in court. And I guess they didn't succeed.
Katie: Wait, you took them to court?
Simon: No. No, when I found out how Monique died, I didn't want a cent of that money. Know what I used to say to myself? I used to say, I gave lonely women a few good months, and only took the money that they could afford to lose. But when Monique died, it was a reality check, you know? A wake-up call to what a lowlife I'd really become.
Katie: Come here. Come here, baby -- I know that was so hard to tell me.
Simon: I'm glad I did.
Katie: Me, too.
Simon: You know what you were saying before, about missing us? I do, too.
Katie: So don't ever be afraid to tell me anything again, okay? We're in this together.
Simon: Yes, we are. Yes, we are. And now that you know about the money, we can give it away, huh?
Katie: What? Are you crazy?
Simon: There is no way that I am keeping that money!
Katie: Why not?
Simon: Because I will not profit from that woman's death! Katie -- didn't you just listen? The only reason she got on that boat was because she was upset with me and what I'd done to her.
Katie: How do you know that? You don't know that for sure.
Simon: What you and I have is special. Let's just forget -- I'm done talking about it. Let's just talk about how amazing you and I are together.
Katie: Yes, but everything that's wonderful between us could be so much more wonderful with that cushion.
Simon: I am not gonna let the only marriage that means anything to me be tainted by money from what I used to do.
Katie: Tainted? You don't have to look at it that way. At the ashram, I learned about this little thing called the law -- listen to me! It's important! The law of karmic transmutation. It's like, if an object has a negative vibe to it, you can change the energy of it by doing something positive with it. So if we do something good, then it'll take away the taint.
Simon: Yeah, put it to good use. Is that what you're saying?
Katie: Right.
Simon: That's what I'm saying. The burn unit at the hospital.
Katie: No, no, no.
Simon: That is good use.
Katie: Honey -- let's use it to good use for us. Remember that house that I told you about, the one that I've always dreamed of?
Simon: Buying a house is not exactly a charitable act.
Katie: Okay, okay, okay. Come here. Then we'll go to Tuscany. And we will help the peasants. [ Simon laughs ] All right, fine. I'm talking about doing all the things that we said we were gonna do someday. So let's just make someday now.
Simon: Katie, you are incredible. You are the most amazing person. I would do anything to make you happy. But taking that money? No -- I don't know.
Katie: You don't have to say yes. Just promise me you'll think about it.
Simon: All right. I'll think about it.
Katie: But not now. Right now, I want you to think of nothing but me.
Simon: That's the easiest thing I could ever do.
Katie: Sometimes after we make love -- I don't know where you end and I begin. I've never felt this close to anyone.
Simon: And tonight's different?
Katie: I just feel like I know everything about you now.
Simon: Cause I told you about Monique?
Katie: Well, I just think that both of us have done some pretty awful things.
Simon: Yeah.
[Both chuckling]
Katie: Okay, maybe very, very awful things.
Simon: Yeah, like you trying to take Molly's job, and moving in on your boss's marriage --
Katie: Hey, hey, hey! You and your ex-wives. Hey, stop, stop. No, no. I'm talking about something serious here. After all that horribleness, you and I found each other. We made something so beautiful.
Simon: This is beautiful. I'd almost go so far as to say it's nirvana.
Katie: You know about nirvana?
Simon: Yeah. Just because I didn't spend 24 hours in an ashram -- yes, I do. Yes.
Me, being in love -- it's nirvana.
Katie: Exactly what we're experiencing. And no big, stupid, old check can get in the way.
Simon: Oh, you just don't -- you don't know how to let up, do you?
Katie: No. Not on you.
Simon: You really know how to wear a guy down.
Katie: Speaking of -- you wanna join me in the shower?
Simon: Yes, I do. Go get it started, and I'll be right in.
Katie: All right. Don't you leave me waiting, mister.
[Katie leaves to start the shower, and Simon pulls out the check]
Simon: Katie, if only you knew the whole story.
03-06-02 ... Discussing The Gentle Touch
Mitzi: Not the right ambulance company? Simon, we're going about this all wrong.
Simon: How wrong? How wrong?
Mitzi: We're not thinkin' like crackpots, all right? If I were Miss Funny Farm, where would I stash Jack?
Simon: Look, I wish I knew. Well, at least we got a few people working on this, including Craig.
Mitzi: Ah, I feel so much better. Look, I would rather trust Mikie "the mook" back in Jersey.
Simon: Well, Mitz, as much as I hate to admit it as well, we need Craig in on the search for these women. We do.
Mitzi: Well, what if Craig's not all that?
Simon: Do you know anyone else with the inside track here?
Mitzi: What if there was somebody whose ego was smaller than China who knows a little bit about what Jack was doing?
Simon: Mitz, if you know anything that can lead us to Rose and the others, you have to tell me.
Mitzi: And put my eggs in that loser's basket? Forget it.
Mitzi: Well, I said all I'm gonna say.
Craig: Oh, really? Usually, we can't shut you up.
Mitzi: Listen, bub, I don't need your lip.
Simon: Mitz, we need more to go on here.
Craig: Yes, we are running out of time, Mitzi. Unless you talk, and now, we may never see Rose, Carly or Emily again.
[Phone ringing]
Simon: Look, Mitz, just talk to him, please.
Craig: What do you know, Mitz?
Mitzi: Fine. But I'm doing this for Rose, not for you.
[Takes Craig's hand and writes on his palm]
Craig: What, palmistry?
Mitzi: This is Pierre's number.
Craig: Hey, hey, not too hard.
Mitzi: He's my contact in Marseilles.
Craig: Your contact?
Mitzi: He's the guy with the info on who drove the vans that took the girls where they were heading.
Craig: All right, when was the last time you talked to this Pierre?
Mitzi: Just before Jack disappeared. Jack was -- he was waitin' for Jack in Marseilles.
Craig: All right, Mitz, I could kiss you.
Mitzi: Been there, done that.
Craig: I remember. Now, listen, I'm gonna call this Pierre.
Mitzi: Listen, don't do Jack dirty, okay? You hurt him, I will hurt you. You don't wanna get on a Jersey girl's bad side. Tell Simon to give me a call if he gets any news about Jack.
[Mitzi leaves and Simon comes back in the room]
Simon: All right, so did Mitzi talk?
Craig: Well, yes. And unless I wash my hand, we have a lead in France. I'm gonna go to the airport.
Simon: Whoa, whoa, wait. Don't you want to know where Julia took Jack first?
Simon: All right. According to their log book, The Gentle Touch -- [laughs] -- ambulance service picked up a patient and his nurse at Jack's address in Milltown and took them to Oakdale Court.
Craig: The manager said the only person he saw at Carly's place was Molly.
Simon: Are you sure?
Craig: Yeah. Said she came by to check on the place, pay the rent.
Simon: And did he describe Molly?
Craig: No, not really.
Simon: Not really what? Not really her hair color? Not really her weight, her height, her shoe size, what she was wearing? What? Not really what?
Craig: Ah, so many questions. Let's get an answer.
[phone rings]
Molly: Hello?
Craig: Molly? Hi, it's Craig Montgomery. Listen, I hate to bother you, what, with all on your plate -- Abigail and all -- but I just wondered if you needed somebody to check on Carly's place while she was gone.
Molly: Actually, Craig, that really would be great. I'm sure the place could use some attention.
Craig: You haven't been there at all?
Molly: No, not for months.
Craig: Okay. Well, I'll take care of it. And by the way, listen, I hope everything works out for Abigail.
Molly: Thanks.
Craig: Yeah, bye. There you go.
Simon: The manager must have spoken to Julia. Julia must have told him that she was Molly. All right, let's go.
Craig: Yeah, fine, fine. But listen, I take care of Julia, all right? She almost bought me a seat on death row, and I think it's time to repay the favor.
03-07-02 ... Surfing for Simon
Katie: I know it looks bad, but truthfully? It could have been a lot worse.
Lucy: I just can't believe you did all this shopping without me.
Katie: Here's my apology.
Lucy: For me?
Katie: Mm-hmm.
Lucy: Aunt Katie! Do you know what my grandmother would say about this? "Thoroughly inappropriate."
Katie: Of course.
Lucy: Yeah, and my mother would hide it from me until I was 25. And my dad -- well, he'd burn you along with it. I love it!
Katie: I knew you would. What are you doing?
Lucy: I can't keep it.
Katie: Why not? Of course you can keep it.
Lucy: It's way too expensive.
Katie: I can afford it. Simon and I are very rich.
Lucy: How?
Katie: Well, unfortunately, someone had to die. Look at this. Is this a killer or what?
Katie: This one's great because turquoise --
Dahlia: Knock, knock!
Katie: Hey.
Dahlia: What in the world? Did every little chic boutique explode into your lap tonight?
Katie: Well, yeah, something like that.
Dahlia: So you're spending your video earnings before they've hatched?
Katie: No, no. Cash never entered into it. Oh, don't let me forget to return Craig's charge cards.
Lucy: Oh, I didn't hear that.
Katie: No, no, don't worry. They will be paid off as soon as the deposit clears. Simon and I had a sort of windfall.
Lucy: Listen, I'd love to stay for the rest of the fashion show, but unfortunately I have to make a dent in my history homework. So, it was good to see you, Dahlia.
Dahlia: You, too, Lucy. You were talking to me about a "windfall?"
Katie: Yeah, remember that woman that I saw Simon with the other day? Turns out she was a lawyer.
Dahlia: Really?
Katie: Yep. Simon got an inheritance from one of his wives.
Dahlia: Inheritance? Oh, I always thought -- well, I just assumed, from the wedding announcement, that Simon's marriages ended in divorce.
Katie: Well, so did I. But it turns out that there was an accident, all very tragic and very long ago, so we try not to dwell.
Dahlia: I hate to interfere, but doesn't that sound a little odd?
Katie: What sounds a little odd?
Dahlia: Well, the fact that Simon never mentioned this tragic accident until he was forced to? I mean, whatever happened to the marital honesty you're always talking about? I thought your goal was "no secrets."
Katie: It is. It is.
Dahlia: Well, I don't know. Sure smells like a secret to me.
Carly's Apartment
Simon: whoa, whoa. Why don't you hold it right there?
Julia: [laughing] Oh, Jack. More company. Aren't you gettin' really kinda popular?
Katie and Simon's Room, Craig's Suite
Dahlia: Okay, call it an omission. But it's not like it's an omission about a few wild parties or some parking tickets. A person died. A life was lost in a terrible way. Doesn't that concern you?
Katie: Of course it does. But there are a lot of reasons why Simon needs to keep that tragedy in his past. It wasn't the happiest of marriages, first of all.
Dahlia: Did he happen to mention why?
Katie: Dahlia, if you think that couples dredge up every stupid little thing that ever happened in their pasts, then you don't know a lot about relationships.
Dahlia: And you don't know a lot about Simon. And to say that a death is a minor incident --
Katie: Wait, hold on a second! When did this become your business?
Dahlia: You're right. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to pry. It's just that if Simon left out something as important as the fact that one of his wives died while they were married, why he hasn't he told you I don't know. If it was me, wild horses couldn't keep me from finding out everything.
Carly's Apartment
Katie and Simon's Room, Craig's Suite
Katie: Um -- not a thing. Why? What's wrong?
Lucy: Well, my cursor's stuck, and it won't let me type in capital letters.
Katie: All right, let me take a look at it. Hmm.
Lucy: Do you have much experience in repairing computers?
Katie: None whatsoever. But there's a first time for everything. All right, expert maneuver. Don't try this at home. Ow. Oh! Look.
Lucy: Hey you did it! , Aunt Katie. You're the best. Everything all right?
Katie: Ah, you don't want to know. How's your history homework comin'?
Lucy: Oh, it's a breeze. Amazing how much information's at your fingertips with a computer and a really good search engine.
Katie: That's great. Wait. That is great. That is the best thing ever!
Lucy: It is?
Katie: Yes, can I borrow this for awhile?
Lucy: Sure, why?
Katie: I need to do a little history research of my own.
Lucy: About what?
Katie: Simon.
03-08-02 ... Water, Water Everywhere and Not a Drop to Drink
Simon: Jack? Jack! Can you hear me?
[ Simon jumps in the water and finds Jack trapped inside. He pounds on the glass and tries to get the door open ]
The Riverbank
Craig: Simon!
Simon: Jack! Jack! Can you hear me, Jack?
Craig: Is he all right?
Simon: I don't know. He's not breathing. Jack, Jack.
[Jack coughing]
Simon: Jack, are you okay?
Jack: No. No.
Simon: Craig, help me with these straps.
Craig: Jack! Hey, Jack, where's my car? Did Julia take my car?
Simon: Look at the tire tracks, Craig. Where are they going?
Craig: What, in there?
[ Jack coughing ]
Simon: Yeah, Julia followed your instructions to the letter.
Craig: Oh, I just had it detailed, too.
Simon: Jack, you all right? What's the matter?
Jack: I'm freezing. I'm freezing.
Margo: Jack! Oh, Jack. Jack. How is he? How's he doing? Is he okay?
Simon: He's alive. He's alive.
Margo: You pulled him out of there?
Simon: About 30 seconds ago.
Margo: Oh, man. That - was a close one, wasn't it?
Jack: Where's Julia?
[Jack coughing]
Simon: Don't know.
Margo: I don't know. I'm sorry, Jack. She got away.
Margo: Hey, how are you doing, huh?
Jack: I'm fine. I'm fine.
Margo: Yeah. You, Simon?
Simon: Oh, yeah. Never been better. Great.
Margo: Yeah, why don't we talk after you've been treated? Let's get you into the hospital. You, too, Simon.
Simon: I just need a hot bath and a massage. I'll be fine.
Margo: No, not taking chances with either one of you. Into the ambulance. No back talk.
Simon: It seems she means it, mate. Come on.
Memorial Hospital, ER
Jack: Hey!
Simon: How are you doing?
Jack: Not bad. How are you doin'? What's behind your back?
Simon: What?
Jack: What's behind you back?
Simon: [pulls out the harness] Oh! Oh, I thought you might get some use of this.
[Jack laughs]
Simon: And here, this is for you. [throws him a sweatshirt]
Jack: Oh. Hey, where'd you get this?
Simon: Oh, the gift shop downstairs.
Jack: How much do I owe you? Besides my life.
Simon: Oh, well, actually, 20 bucks, actually. It's not cheap.
Jack: Seriously. I wasn't getting out of that car. If not for you -- who knows? They might be naming one of those rooms at the station after me.
Simon: Come on, you would've done the same thing for me. You know it.
Jack: Well, don't make that possible please. But if you do, you know I got your back.
Simon: Yeah, I know.
Jack: Thank you so much.
Simon: You take care of yourself, man.
Jack: All right. You, too, Simon.
Memorial Hospital, Hallway
Craig: Yes, well, everything is okay. Jack got himself into a little situation. We got him out of it.
Simon: Yeah, yeah. Well, that's the short version, anyway.
Lucy: You can tell me the details later. I just wanted to make sure that you two were safe.
Craig: No, we're fine. See? Huh? Now, speaking of safe, how did you get here?
Lucy: I didn't drive, if that's what you mean. Fenwick brought me. And he's waiting outside.
Craig: Well, now, did Lucinda let you come alone? She keeps a guard outside your bedroom.
Lucy: Well, she was gonna come, but then Aunt Lily and Paul Ryan came to tell her that they heard from Rose.
Craig: They heard from Rose? Just Rose? Not Carly, Emily?
Simon: Where is she? Where's Rose?
Lucy: Belgium. The three of them took the Worldwide jet to go pick her up in the Brussels airport.
Craig: And Rose didn't say anything about Carly?
Lucy: I don't think so. Rose is the only one they're gonna pick up.
Craig: Simon, would you do me a favor and please take Lucy home? I've gotta get to the airport.
Simon: Let it go, Craig. Let Lucinda get her. You question her later on.
Craig: Would you rather I discuss the situation with Katie?
Simon: All right. But don't you think you should tell Jack before you leave?
Craig: The man's been traumatized, Simon! He needs rest.
03-11-02 ... Gretel, Love and Trust
Simon: What are you up to, Katie? [grabs the laptop]
Katie: No.
Simon: Hey, hey.
Katie: Can I have a kiss?
Simon: Yes. Hey, I'm sorry I'm late.
Katie: Oh, I'm getting used to it. Hey, you didn't leave the house in those clothes. This stuff isn't even yours.
Simon: No. It's very comfortable, though.
Katie: Yeah, and very fashion-forward. You look like a guy who just came back from softball practice.
Simon: And I guess the next question is why.
Katie: I'm waiting.
Simon: I kind of had an accident. Not that kind of accident! I did come housebroken.
Katie: Yeah, I know, but I don't understand the rest, so you better start explaining, 'cause when a husband comes home in completely different clothes than he left in, a wife wonders all sorts of things.
Simon: Look, I know I've been kind of tight-lipped about what's going on.
Katie: Yeah, you have. I know, Mr. Secret Agent Man. And it's becoming a habit, and I'm really not liking it, so just stop avoiding the question and tell me what's up with the clothes.
Simon: Well, I ruined my other clothes, and I had to put these ones on.
Katie: Yeah, obviously. You're not trying to pass that off as an answer, are you?
Simon: Oh, oh, right. You want details.
Katie: Yeah. Well, you know, I used to love the kind of avoidance routine. I thought it was very mysterious. But now, it's just kind of really getting on my nerves.
Simon: Listen, Katie, I told you about the kind of work that I was doing. It's --
Katie: It's hush-hush. Yes, I know. You know, some people think that I shouldn't be so understanding.
Simon: Yeah? What people?
Katie: Oh, you want details? Well, some people think that I should just start looking for answers on my own if you're not going to share your life with me.
Simon: Oh, and that's what the computer is for, is it? Are you trying to find the Simon Frasier website?
Katie: Oh, no, not exactly, but I did find exactly what I was looking for.
Simon: Well, whatever you found or think you found, it's got nothing to do with us.
Katie: Oh, no, it has everything to do with us. Our entire future depends on it.
Simon: And do you mind sharing these little details with your husband?
Katie: Oh, details? Details wanted from the man who won't even tell his wife why he came home in completely different clothes.
Simon: I told you, Katie. That was -- that was work-related. And soon I'm going to be able to tell you everything, but I just can't discuss it right now. I had a dust up. I ruined my other clothes, and I had to put other clothes on.
Katie: All right, all right, all right. Just stop. I can hear it in your voice. It's all right. Your "I spy" life is safe for tonight.
Simon: And so, what about the computer?
Katie: Oh, I made a couple printouts over there.
Simon: This is what you've been searching the web for -- a house?
Katie: Our house. A man and a wife need a nest to feather, don't you think? So what do you think?
Simon: This is what this is all about? You searched the Internet for a love shack?
Katie: Well, you're not laughing about it, are you?
Simon: No. No, I'm not. I just thought you were looking for something else. No. This is good.
Katie: "Looking for something else"? Like what? No, I just think that it's time that we get out of Craig's place and get a place of our own.
Simon: And this is it? This is the one?
Katie: Yeah. It's sweet, don't you think?
Simon: Yeah, if you're Hansel and Gretel.
Katie: Oh, come on. It's a beautiful little cottage.
Simon: We can't really afford it right now, and look at it. Look at it. It's not very practical.
Katie: Why not? What's wrong?
Simon: Well, one bed, one bath, no garage. I could build a better house than this.
Katie: Oh, really? No offense, Bob Vila, but I don't want to spend the next ten years of our marriage with you running off to the hardware store every five minutes.
Simon: This is really what you want?
Katie: Well, okay. Don't bring out the violins or anything, but when I was a kid --
Simon: Oh, no. Is this another dream about indoor snow and farm animals?
Katie: No. Those don't really enter into it. But when I was a kid and my mom was on the tour circuit, I would stay home alone a lot. Or if she was out on the road, then I'd stay hotels, obviously, and I would watch a lot of TV -- old movies, actually. And there was this movie that I loved called "The Enchanted Cottage." It was about this young couple, and they sort of thought that they were losers.
Simon: Losers? Listen, just because I'm wearing sweatpants doesn't mean --
Katie: No, no. Hey, open mind. Open mind. Anyway, he was an ex-G.I. who before the war had this amazingly perfect life, and after the war, he was emotionally scarred and just not himself, angry and moping around this sad cottage.
Simon: And the woman?
Katie: And the woman was kind of this homely, dust mop type who he had hired as a housekeeper before he left for the war, and she's the only person that can bring him out of his shell. So it's a story about this magical place where these two people fall in love and find the inner beauty in each other.
Simon: Well, I already think you're beautiful, inside and out.
Katie: Well, thank you. And I know that, I just think it's time that we have a life of our own, you know? I don't want to live like other people do. I want to have our own place and grow up and create magic in our lives.
Simon: And a gingerbread house is going to help us do that?
Katie: It's a start. You know, we move out of this place, buy that place, but live there while you fix it up. You can renovate, I'll decorate. Say yes?
Simon: It's my fault. I should have told you about Monique and the money from the very start, okay? I just was afraid -- I was afraid that you didn't trust me already.
Katie: My turn? I wasn't sure if I trusted you or not.
Simon: All right.
Katie: I -- I borrowed Lucy's laptop 'cause I was gonna look up Monique's obituary. I just -- I wanted to see what it said about her.
Simon: And about me?
Katie: Yeah. But then I realized if I looked up even one little thing about her, then that was it. I was this woman who doesn't trust the man that she married. And I need to trust you. I want to trust you more than anything.
Simon: Come here. I love you so much, and I would do nothing to hurt you. So I guess being a guy, I lied by omission thinking I was protecting you from something.
Katie: You don't need to protect me, Simon. You just have to be honest with me.
Simon: I know. I know that. I do. I know that, and I'm sorry. As far as Monique and the money is concerned, I should have put more trust in us.
Katie: Think you can get used to it, knowing I love you no matter what?
Simon: Yeah. I could get pretty used to that.
Katie: Good. And the cottage?
Simon: The cottage. All right, Gretel, let's go check it out.
Katie: Really?
Simon: Yes.
Katie: Really? Oh, good. Gretel needs a kiss now.
Simon: Come here. Wait, wait.
Katie: What?
Simon: Remember when there was a time when we had to force ourselves never to touch each other?
Katie: Hmm, good idea at the time. Bad idea ever, ever again.
Simon: Absolutely.
03-13-02 ... The Enchanted Cottage
Simon: Mmm, I know.
Katie: Yes, you always find a way to give me what I want.
Simon: Absolutely. I'm spoiling you to death.
Katie: I know. You should. I deserve it. I'm serious, though. You always find a way to make my dreams come true. First with the wedding, everything that happened there, and then I tell you this silly little dream about us living in an enchanted cottage, and you actually find one in the woods. I can't wait to see it.
Simon: Neither can I.
Katie: Mmm, tell me about it again?
Simon: All right. The real estate agent said it's a beautiful little cottage at the end of a secluded road, with a babbling brook in the back yard.
Katie: Mmm, Snickers is going to love it!
Simon: I'll tell Snickers not to expect perfection. Apparently, it needs a coat of paint, and -- what did she say? A few tweaks here and there.
Katie: So what! Painting and tweaking are the best part of making a home a home. We'll run out, we'll get all kinds of different colors of paint and we'll get some takeout food and it'll be a whole adventure.
Simon: That's if you like it when you see it.
Katie: I love it already. Sight unseen, I know it is the perfect place where we're supposed to live. [ Cell phone rings ] Hello?
Dahlia: Katie, it's Dahlia. How soon can you see me? I have some news! Some big news! Some huge news!
Katie: Really? Well, actually, I'm at Al's Diner right now, but --
Dahlia: Don't move a well-toned muscle. I will be right there.
Katie: Well, Simon and I have plans already.
Dahlia: I'll be there in two shakes. Bye.
Katie: Wait, Dahlia, I -- okay. That was Dahlia, she says she has something huge to tell me. But, you know what? I'll just write her a note on a little napkin and tell her I can't --
Simon: No, no, no, no. No, here, here. You take care of your business, and then meet me at the cottage when you're free. That's the address.
Katie: Really?
Simon: Yep.
Katie: Mmm. I can't wait! Wait, wait, wait, wait. Our own enchanted little cottage.
Simon: Good luck with Dahlia.
Katie: Thanks. I wonder what she has to tell me?
Simon: Tell me about it later.
Katie: Okay. Bye, babe.
Coed #1: Katie Frasier? Guys, look who's here! It's Katie!
Katie: Hi.
Katie: Yeah, I'm Katie Frasier. How do you know? And why do you care?
Coed #2: You're fantastic!
Coed #3: Where did you get all those hunky firemen?
Katie: Oh! Whoa, wait. You've seen my video? Where?
Coed #1: Everybody has it.
Katie: Really? 'Cause it hasn't even come out on the market yet.
Coed #3: It's the hottest thing on campus.
Coed #2: It's perfect for putting a stop to, you know, the freshman 15.
Coed #1: Those 15 pounds you gain that first year of college.
Katie: Yeah, I know.
Coed #3: It's awesome! The music, the moves.
All: The men!
Dahlia: Don't tell me this is your fan club.
Katie: Well, I don't know what this is.
Dahlia: Well, I'm the producer of Katie Frasier's all new "Butt-Bustin' Workout." So, I take it you like the tape?
Coed #2: We love it. You rock, Katie.
Katie: Thank you.
Dahlia: Well, listen, if you don't mind, I need to borrow the star for a minute.
Katie: Well, guys, it was so nice to meet you. Thanks for your input. And tell me that you know something about this. And tell me that you're upset because somebody's bootlegging it already.
Dahlia: Can you believe it? We did it.
Katie: Did what?
Dahlia: The production company in Chicago?
Katie: Yeah.
Dahlia: They decided to test market the video statewide on college campuses. Coeds from Northwestern to Oakdale U have seen it, and they love it. And as you've just seen, they are wild about Katie Frasier.
Katie: Are you serious?
Dahlia: What more proof do you need? Your "Butt-Bustin'" tape is flying off the shelves. The firemen are, and I quote, "sizzling." And the consensus is, your energy and attitude make Denise Austin look like she needs some caffeine.
Katie: This is like a dream.
Dahlia: Well, it gets even better, Katie. We are getting flooded with calls from bookstores, from video stores. Katiefrasier.Com has a massive number of hits and growing by the second. Everyone wants a copy of your workout.
Katie: Okay, so this isn't a joke?
Dahlia: This is your life, Katie Frasier.
Katie: Oh, my God!
Dahlia: The next step is we go nationwide. I'm gonna launch a major publicity campaign. You are the toast of the fitness world. Fast forward a few months, and we are so rich that you need to add an ivory tower to your castle just to get some time to yourself.
Katie: My castle?
Dahlia: Well, of course, a castle. What else would a woman of your impending wealth call home? What, you have a problem with the lap of luxury?
Katie: Well, I just -- my castle is more in the form of a sweet, little cottage in the woods. Simon just found it for us, and I would not trade it for anything.
Oakdale Police Department
Simon: Yes.
Margo: Would you tell this man to get out of here, get something to eat, get some rest?
Simon: Get out of here, get something to eat, get some rest. What else?
Margo: Yes, please come back when you're of some use to me.
Simon: Come back soon.
Margo: Please, just go. Go anywhere. Go home. Go away. Go home.
Jack: Call me if there's any news on Hal, all right?
Margo: Sure, yeah.
Jack: And the second that Rose D'Angelo sets foot in the states, I wanna be there when you question her.
Margo: Sleep tight, Jack.
Jack: Simon.
Simon: Jack.
Margo: Man, getting that guy to take some down time is like herding cats. He hasn't slept anyplace where he's felt safe in the couple of days. So listen -- if he crashes, Simon, you're gonna have to take up the slack.
Simon: Well, is there something I should know about?
Margo: Well, I didn't wanna say this with Jack here, 'cause he never would've left.
Simon: What?
Margo: Rose D'Angelo is already back in town. I'm gonna question her this afternoon.
Simon: So how is she? How are the other -- where was she?
Margo: I don't know. I'll have answers to all of these questions and more in a few hours now.
Simon: Is that true? Hal's no longer pursuing Stenbeck's connection to the kidnapping? I thought he'd do anything to bring this guy to justice.
Margo: Hal has taken Stenbeck out of the hospital. He's been hiding away. He's protecting him. And now he's moved him again, and we have no idea where.
Simon: That's unbelievable.
Margo: Yeah, pretty unbelievable. Stenbeck's in a coma. He's in shock. Stenbeck is gone. He's just gone! Before we can get him back under a doctor's supervision and help -- the help that he so desperately needs -- he's vanished. If we don't find Stenbeck, he's gonna die.
Simon: Yeah. And everything he knows about Emily and Carly will die with him. What can I do to help?
Margo: I just need you to stay available. I mean, with Jack out of commission, I need you more than ever.
Simon: Absolutely, absolutely. Look, I've got something special planned for Katie, but after that, I'm all yours.
Margo: All right. I'll be in touch.
Simon: All right.
Craig: Simon!
Simon: Gotta run, Craig.
Al's Diner
Dahlia: Where's all this coming from?
Katie: From the heart.
Dahlia: The last I heard, you were worried Simon lied about his dead wife.
Katie: No, you were worried about that. Not me. I love Simon.
Dahlia: And you trust him.
Katie: Yeah.
Dahlia: Listen, I don't have a problem with you being happily married, Katie, as long as it doesn't drain your natural ambition. Now, I thought I was hooking my wagon to a rising star. Not to a happy homemaker who's gonna lose interest in our project because she's too busy picking out wallpaper.
Katie: I beg your pardon?
Dahlia: Look, I thought of you as the golden girl from WOAK who landed on her feet in a penthouse on top of the world --
Katie: Mm-hmm.
Dahlia: Now, all you want is some fixer-upper in the sticks?
Katie: That is not all I want, Dahlia.
Dahlia: Well, why start small when you can live in style?
Katie: I don't know. I guess it's part of being a newlywed. Yeah, I wanna get my hands dirty. I wanna go out and pick out wallpaper and paint and carpet and work in my garden. Okay? But that doesn't mean that I can't give 100% to our video. I am the best multi-tasker that I know.
Dahlia: Well, I hope you're right, Katie. For both our sakes. Because you are being groomed for something very special here. And I would hate to see you let it slip through your fingers because you're afraid to tell your husband what you really want. If this cottage is more about him than it is about you -- listen, I'm a producer. I have to ask the tough questions.
Katie: Yeah, you work hard for the money, Dahlia. I think you're working a little too hard.
Dahlia: Well, you know what? The other part keeps you happy and healthy. And with all the TV spots and the interviews and the infomercials, you're gonna need all of the energy you have in reserve.
Katie: And I'll give it all to you. And I can't wait. But, in the meantime, I have a date with my husband, Simon, at our enchanted, little cottage. So, see you soon. Bye. Bye, ladies.
Dahlia: Good luck.
The Cottage
Simon: Yeah, well, that's a good thing.
Realtor: I know what you're thinking.
Simon: No. No, I don't think so. No, you haven't got the slightest idea what I'm thinking.
Realtor: It's a charming little cottage with tons of possibilities. For a young family on a budget, this place is perfect. It's rustic.
Simon: "Rustic." "Rustic?" Is that real estate for "run down."
Realtor: Use your imagination, Mr. Frasier.
Simon: You know, it's hard to get romantic when half the wall is missing.
Realtor: And that's why we call it a "handyman's special."
Simon: Okay, no more lines here. I got enough money to buy the place, not rebuild it.
Realtor: Well, I do have some other houses I could show you.
Simon: Other houses, "other houses?" Cottages? In the woods?
Realtor: In that category, this is it. But, before you make up your mind, take a look around, and let me know what you think.
Simon: Oh, boy. Well, Katie, I'm sorry. I tried. Maybe next time.
[Door creaking]
Katie: Simon? Simon, you better be here, because if not, I'm leaving. [ Katie screams ] I'm leaving, I'm leaving!
Simon: It's all right, it's all right. It's me, it's me!
Katie: Simon?
Simon: Yeah, who'd you expect? That Bob Villa guy?
Katie: Oh, I'm gonna kill you!
Simon: Why? What'd I do?
Katie: You scared me half to death!
Simon: Oh, I'm so sorry! Come here.
Katie: What did you do? Bring me to this place to scare me and cover me in filth? Didn't you hear me calling you?
Simon: No, I was out back.
Katie: Oh, there's an outback out back?
Simon: Well, it's kind of like the "out front," only with no poison ivy and dead trees. Come take a look.
Katie: Oh, no, that's okay. I've seen enough. Let's go.
Simon: Before you hate it?
Katie: Uh, a little too late for that.
Simon: Just wait. There's something I want to show you.
Simon: Okay. Now that you've seen the lay of the land, what do you think?
Katie: Honestly?
Simon: Yeah, yep. Shoot from the hip.
Katie: Well, the ceiling is stained, which means the roof leaks. The floor in the kitchen is slanted. That stove is at least 50 years old. And I don't even want to think what's wrong with the plumbing and wiring --
Simon: Okay, shh. Shh.
Katie: What?
Simon: Just listen. Listen. At least it sounds enchanted.
Katie: Yeah, it sounds beautiful, but --
Simon: But -- but you hate it.
Katie: Don't you? This place looks like it should be condemned.
Simon: No, no. Look, I know it's not exactly what you wanted.
Katie: No, I wanted -- I wanted a sweet little cottage that needed maybe a coat of paint, and a willow tree outside, and some swans for the pond -- and us. You know, our special little castle.
Simon: Okay, all right. Castle? Ah, it's a bit delusional. But it beats living next door to Burt's Garage, right?
Katie: You think?
Simon: Yeah -- and being permanent freeloaders at Craig's place. Katie, our own little cottage at the end of a country road, equipped with its own pond, and all the privacy we want --
Katie: And since your inheritance is off-limits, it's pretty much all we can afford.
Simon: Ouch. Is that a hint of bitterness I detect?
Katie: You only detected a hint? Simon, I said that we should get an enchanted little cottage. I think maybe you heard me say "infected little cottage," 'cause this is nothing like I had in mind.
Simon: Listen, the real estate agent said buying a place is like falling in love.
Katie: Oh, yeah, of course she did, 'cause she wanted to sell you this --
Simon: No, no, after being here for a few minutes, I know exactly what she's saying.
Katie: Oh, no, no. You're not even gonna compare me to this dilapidated place.
Simon: No. Look -- I didn't fall in love with you overnight, right? I didn't fall in love with you just because you're beautiful and everything is in complete, perfect working order. I fell in love with you over time, because I learned what makes you tick, what makes you smile, what puts a fire underneath you. It took a little work, but I know more about you than any man will ever know. And I look at you and I don't see a million things I want to fix. I see a million things that I love. And I see our future. I see our future. Listen, listen, look -- a Christmas tree, right there in the corner -- you and me curled up here on the couch in front of the fire in winter. Come on, what do you think?
Katie: Well, I think that maybe if we finished knocking down that wall and maybe put in a window here so we could see the pond outside --
Simon: Is that a "yes?"
Katie: It's a -- it's a dream come true -- in progress.
Simon: I knew you would love it!
Katie: I love you! And this place -- will grow on me, eventually.
03-20-02 ... Everybody Run, The Australian's Got a Gun
Simon: That's fine. That's fine. How is she?
Margo: She's bruised, she's shaken, but she's gonna be okay. Are you still available to work for me?
Simon: Yeah, absolutely. Katie and I are buying a house.
Margo: Are you really? That's terrific.
Simon: It is, it is. And it will be great once we do it up. So any work you have is gonna be well needed.
Margo: Well, there's plenty to throw at you. Hal is still missing.
Simon: And the man in the coma?
Margo: Yeah, him, too. Hey, how is that inventory of the basement storage room coming along?
Officer #1: Just wrapping it up.
Margo: ASAP. Hal kept Stenbeck stashed in the basement right here.
Simon: Here?
Margo: Right here. Yeah, it's clever, isn't it? That way, he could keep an eye on him and us at the same time.
Simon: So you want to know what's missing?
Margo: Yeah, I want to know what equipment he took with him. Maybe it'll give us an idea of where he's gone.
Margo: John examined Stenbeck, said that he would die if he didn't get back to ICU.
Simon: We'll find him.
Margo: Right, yes. But even if we do, there are no guarantees, and Hal is not himself. Obviously, we have to do something like this. But Simon, he's armed. I'm afraid that he could shoot Stenbeck or himself.
Barbara: Margo, Hal's in terrible trouble. You have to help him. It was very strange, Margo. He kept talking to this playing card, the King of Spades, and he kept going on and on and babbling about how he had to be a good boy and he had to take care of James, and he scared me. So I took that card, and I ripped it up. And then he looked at me, and it was as if I had murdered someone. I kept talking to him, I kept trying to get through to him. And I think I did a little bit when I was talking about Emily, but then he would start in again on how he had to protect James. Margo, I don't know if he's programmed or brainwashed. You've gotta help him.
Margo: Okay, okay. We will, we'll find him. We will.
Simon: Okay, listen, listen, listen. Excuse me. All right. He's pinned down wherever he is, right?
Margo: Mm-hmm.
Simon: He's got a patient in a coma, and so it has to be someplace private. He doesn't want to be seen lugging a body around. And it has to be someplace, I guess, between the station and Fairwinds so he can get back and forth in say, 20 minutes. 'Cause he doesn't want to leave him alone for any longer than that, right?
Margo: Mm-hmm.
Simon: Okay, so --
Officer: Detective?
Margo: Thank you. Let's see what we got here. We've got a couple of blankets, a space heater -- that's weird.
Simon: What?
Margo: A gas generator. That's the kind we used to pump up the lights at night crime scenes.
Simon: All right, all right, so he's planning on taking him somewhere where there's no electricity or heat.
Barbara: Well, what about those cabins down by the lake? They turned off the heat and the electricity in October.
Simon: Well, that's the right idea, but it's too far. It's down here.
Margo: Well, I'd say the boathouse, but it's gone.
Simon: No, no, no, what about the old mill? The old mill?
Barbara: That's where Philip Auster died -- James' driver.
Margo: Be right back.
Margo: Jack?
Jack: What's up?
Margo: Okay, I got an idea that Hal may have taken Stenbeck to the old mill, so I'm gonna go out there and take a look.
Jack: Take backup.
Margo: I will, I will. Listen, will you sit on Craig for me while I'm gone?
Jack: I'm about an inch away from locking him up.
Margo: Listen with my blessings -- do it if you can justify it.
Margo: All right. Want to take a ride?
Simon: Yeah, let's do it.
Barbara: I'm going with you.
Margo: No, you're not. You're staying. Given Hal's state of mind, I don't want --
Barbara: He will talk to me.
Margo: Or he could take you hostage, or he could just shoot you on sight. [to Simon] Are you licensed?
Simon: Yeah, sure.
Barbara: Margo. Margo. I don't care what happens to me. Don't you understand? If I can make things right, I want to.
Margo: You will stay here until we bring Hal back, and then you can talk to him. [Margo hands Simon a revolver and the two are on their way]
The Old Mill
Simon: Margo, he can't hear a word you're saying.
Margo: How is James?
Simon: He's barely got a pulse.
Margo: We've gotta get him out of here.
Simon: We can't take him anywhere until Hal puts down the gun.
Margo: Oh, my God. Simon, Hal is gonna shoot himself.
Barbara: No, he's not. Hal, before you do anything, hear me out.
03-21-02 ... To Protect and Serve
Margo: I think you're right. He may just call her bluff. I'm gonna circle around --
Simon: No, no, no. I'll do it. Keep talking.
Barbara: What are you waiting for, Hal?
Hal: I can't remember the last time I fired my weapon.
Barbara: That's right. Because you are your badge.
Hal: To protect and serve.
Barbara: Yes. But if that's not enough for you anymore, I can handle that. I can call Nikki and tell her that her father won't be there for her college graduation.I'll write to Jennifer overseas and explain why her father won't be bragging about her latest magazine layout at the squad room.
Hal: Why are you saying this to me?
Barbara: Because you're about to take your own life, Hal. But you see, I have to deal with the life you leave behind. They're my children, too.
Margo: And mine.
Barbara: Margo will be there for Adam. He's in college. He can take care of himself. And Will? Will will be with me. He'll have a picture of his father in his dress blues on his bedroom wall. Would you like them to have your badge, something to remember you by?
Hal: I don't want -- I never wanted --
Barbara: It doesn't matter what you want anymore, Hal, because you won't be her you'll just be a memory, a headstone. Oh, and Parker. Parker won't have any memory of you at all.
Margo: If Carly doesn't make it back, I'm sure that John can adopt Parker.
Barbara: That's right. Parker will be calling John "Daddy" from now on. So there you go, Hal. All the loose ends are all tied up. You can die with a clear conscience now.
[Hal finally lowers the gun and Simon takes it from him. Barbara puts her arms around Hal and comforts him]
Margo: That's right. The old mill off of Route 26. And radio D. John Dixon of Oakdale Memorial. Tell him to meet us in emergency. Tell him the patient's name is James Stenbeck.
Hal: What will they do when they get here? What will they do to James?
Barbara: They're not gonna hurt him. They're gonna take care of him, all right? Why don't you not look at him? Focus on me, Hal. Focus on me.
Margo: The paramedics are on their way.
Simon: Margo? Can you come here for a moment, please?
Hal: What's wrong?
Margo: It's okay. Nothing's wrong with James. He's gonna be all right. He's gonna be all right.
Simon: I'm not so sure about that. He hasn't got a pulse.
Simon: Nothing. None. There's nothing there.
Barbara: I am not losing before he tells us where Carly and Emily are.
Hal: Simon, make a fist. Hit him right here, just to the left of the breastbone.
Simon: I know, Hal. That only works in movies.
Hal: You need to shock the heart! Do it. Hit him.
Barbara: Do it!
Simon: All right, all right, all right. All right. Here goes. [ Simon pounds James on his chest ] I think I cracked something, but --
Margo: He's got a pulse. He's got a pulse.
Simon: All right, now what?
Margo: We wait until the paramedics show up. They'll take over. Oh, Hal. You were always better at this first aid than I was. I really missed you, Hal. You are your grouchy, irascible self again, I am not giving up on you.
Paramedic: This guy's lucky to be alive.
Margo: Make sure he stays that way.
[cell phone ringing]
Simon: Sorry. Hello? Hey, honey, your timing's impeccable, as usual. What's up? Look, I'll do my best, but I'm kinda tied up right now. Okay, okay. Shh. Calm down. I'll see what I can do. Yeah, I love you. Bye.
Margo: Little Miss is nipping at your heels there?
Simon: She's got something big planned at Al's Diner. Don't know whether to go or run for the hills.
Margo: Okay. I'll see you soon, Simon. And, Simon? I couldn't have hoped for a better partner than I had tonight. Thank you.
03-22-02 ... I Told Myself: Self, You Need to Talk to Your Hubby More
Customer #1: Thank you.
Katie: You're welcome. Oh, please, it's my pleasure. Hello. Katie Frasier here. A copy of my new workout video.
Customer #2: Mm-hmm.
Katie: When you get a chance. Hello, fellas. Good evening. I'm Katie Frasier, and this is my new workout video. I'll give you three copies. Enjoy. Well, I am so sorry. That's all I have to give out. But, for those of you who didn't get one, my new video will be out in stores within weeks. So thank you very much, and stay pumped! Ooh, excuse me. Oh, hi, Mrs. Hughes.
Nancy: Hello, Katie. Is that really you under all that?
Katie: It is me. How are you?
Nancy: Fine. Thank you for asking. Are you on the way to a costume ball?
Katie: Oh, no. I'm actually celebrating the release -- well, the almost-release of my new workout video. [ Grabs a copy of her video from a man at a nearby table and offers it to Nancy ]It's more for women, anyway. For you.
Nancy: Thank you. "Katie's Butt Bustin' Workout." That's catchy.
Katie: Would you like me to autograph it for you?
Nancy: You read my mind.
Katie: Here we go. You know, making this video taught me one very important thing.
Nancy: Never take thin thighs for granted?
Katie: Close. Perseverance. You know, there were times in my life where I thought I just couldn't go on. No friends, no prospects. Darkness all around me. But I didn't give up. I kept reaching, reaching for my dream. And I didn't do it alone. Although I could've, but it would've taken a lot longer and been a lot harder. No, no, there were those precious few who believed in me just as much as I believed in myself. And you are one of those few who made me what I am today.
Nancy: Well, thank you, Katie. But I don't think I want to take any credit for that.
Katie: You were always so generous, always so kind. And let me tell you something -- I am not gonna forget you, no matter how huge I become.
Nancy: Have you been feeling all right?
Katie: Great. Why?
Nancy: I was just asking. Now, I have to get to the hospital 'cause I'm taking some hot chocolate and a cookie to Kim.
Katie: Kim's in the hospital? Wh -- what happened?
Nancy: It's nothing serious. But I have to get there before the visiting hours are over. So thank you, dear. And good-bye. And the best of luck on your video.
Katie: Thank you so much. I hope you enjoy it. And remember -- stay pumped.
Nancy: Simon, keep your eye on her. She may be slipping away from us.
Simon: Excuse me, didn't you used to be Mrs. Katie Frasier?
Katie: That better be Simon. Hey, babe, you made it.
Simon: Of course. So tell me, what's all this -- this stuff about an interview?
Katie: Well, have you ever heard of "Self" magazine?
Simon: Yes, sure.
Katie: Well, they're coming here tonight to interview me about my video.
Simon: Well, that's fantastic news.
Katie: I know!
Simon: That's great.
Katie: I'm a celebrity again, and I am loving every minute of it.
Katie: So, Dahlia called the magazine to tell them how popular I had become on college campuses, and she suggested that they do an interview before it goes national. And they jumped at the chance.
Simon: Well, that is great news. I'm so happy for you.
Katie: Thank you.
Simon: Is that why you're dressed like -- what are you wearing?
Katie: Hey, come on. It's an image. I'm a celebrity now. I can't just dress like any other ordinary person.
Simon: Yeah, well, you always seemed to have a way of taking my mind off other things.
Katie: What other things? What's wrong, babe? Oh, here they are, honey. I gotta go. Ooh! Looks good. Hello, hello, hello. Hi, I'm Katie Frasier.
Kathy: Hi, Kathy Kayler from "Self" magazine. And this is my photographer Cliff Holloway.
Katie: It's a pleasure to meet you both.
Cliff: Nice to meet you.
Dahlia: This is Simon Frasier, Katie's husband.
Simon: Hi. Hi, nice to meet you.
Kathy: Hello. Are you gonna be joining us for the interview?
Simon: No, no, I don't think so.
Katie: No, yes, of course he is. We are -- we do everything together.
Kathy: Oh, that's so nice. You guys must be newlyweds.
Katie: Well, yes, actually -- well, yes and no. We've been married twice.
Kathy: Already? How'd that happen?
Simon: Well, the first time, actually -- [ camera snaps ] Sorry, mate, not tonight, okay?
Dahlia: Simon, I had no idea you were so camera-shy.
Simon: Look, Dahlia, this interview is about Katie, all right? You really don't need any pictures of me.
Dahlia: Well, isn't that sweet? Most men like to take credit for everything their wives do.
Simon: Look, I'm sorry, okay? Buddy, look, no offense.
Cliff: It's cool.
Simon: Excuse us. Look, I'm sorry, all right? I really shouldn't be here. I'm not gonna help you at all.
Katie: What's wrong?
Simon: This is just stuff that happened today. It's -- it's just got -- look, it's nothing. I'm fine. I'm just gonna get out of here.
Katie: Well, do you want me to come with you?
Simon: No. Well, what about the interview?
Katie: Oh, I'll be -- well, I love you. If you need me, I'm here.
Simon: No, please. Katie, just stay. Enjoy your moment. I'll catch up with you later, all right?
Katie: Wait. Wait, wait. Where are you going?
Simon: I don't know. I don't know. Maybe the cottage. Maybe some hammering will take my mind off things.
Katie: Honey, okay. Well, be careful, all right? I don't want anything happening to you.
Simon: I'll be fine. I gotta do some work, guys, all right? Take care of Katie.
Kathy: I hope we didn't scare him off.
Katie: No, no. You don't know my husband.
Dahlia: Work, at this hour? Doing what?
Katie: You know, he said he had a bad day, so he's gonna go work on the cottage. I'm sure it'll make him relax more. It's our first home. Simon's doing all the renovation himself.
Dahlia: Listen, why don't we just take this to a booth? This looks good.
Katie: Okay.
Dahlia: If no one objects, I'd like to call it a night also. The release party for Katie's video is tomorrow night, and I have a million things that I have to do.
Kathy: Fine with me.
Katie: Yeah, I'll see you in the morning.
Dahlia: Okay. Listen, have fun. You be kind to my girl.
Kathy: She is so devoted to you.
Katie: I know. I've been very fortunate.
Kathy: Brought this for you.
Katie: Oh, thank you.
Kathy: Mm-hmm.
Cliff: Duck out?
Kathy: Oh, right. You know what? Cliff has gotta get going. Would you mind if we take care of the photos first?
Katie: Oh, sure, whatever you need.
Kathy: Great. Okay.
Katie: Okay.
Cliff: Okay.
Katie: Just here?
Cliff: Big smile, Katie. Great.
Katie: How about this?
Kathy: That's good. That's good.
Katie: Oh, you know what? Should I stand?
Kathy: Yeah, let's get a whole body shot.
Katie: Okay.
Kathy: That'd be good. Oh, that's great. And just maybe a little bit to the side. Good. Oh, that's perfect. Cliff?
Kathy: So tell me, were you one of those kids in high school that was good at every sport?
Katie: Me? No, I wasn't good at anything. In fact, my senior year, I was voted "most likely to bring down a nation."
Kathy: Obviously they were wrong about that.
Katie: Well, I don't know. I'm still young.
Kathy: So, how was it working with the firefighters?
Katie: Ah, they were the best. I was so honored to be able to work with them on the video, and I think they're gonna make it really good.
Kathy: Was it hard to concentrate with all those good-looking men around?
Katie: Well, you just have to know what to concentrate on.
Kathy: Your husband seems like a really interesting person. What does he do for a living?
Katie: Well, he does whatever he wants, whenever he wants to do it.
Kathy: Seriously?
Katie: Yeah. He's a Jack of all trades. A man of many talents. He just finds an opportunity and goes for it.
Kathy: Is he working on anything at the moment?
Katie: Just the cottage. And after that, it's anyone's guess.
Kathy: And that's okay with you, not knowing kind of what comes next?
Katie: Well, I know that I'm gonna be with Simon, and that's enough.
The Cottage
Simon: Katie?
Dahlia: No, it's Dahlia.
Simon: What do you want?
Dahlia: Well, I'll answer that as soon as you invite me in. I thought you said -- I thought Katie said you were gonna renovate.
Simon: Is Katie done with the interview yet?
Dahlia: Oh, she'll keep it going until Kathy runs out of paper.
Simon: You're obviously not here to see her, then.
Dahlia: How perceptive of you.
Simon: I've had a rough day, Dahlia. You wanna play games -- hey, I'm great at checkers.
Dahlia: Actually, I just came to satisfy my curiosity. Is that such a terrible thing?
Simon: Yes, it is, if it involves you and me.
Dahlia: Men never seem to realize that women don't think like you do. Get over yourself, Simon. I'm not gonna pounce on ya.
Simon: Oh, well, how refreshing. So why are you here?
Dahlia: Just wanted to see how you spent your late wife's money.
Simon: How do you know about my inheritance?
Dahlia: Katie tells me everything.
Simon: Okay.
Dahlia: And when she found that check you were hiding from her --
Simon: Look, I was gonna tell her about the check.
Dahlia: But you didn't, did you? So Katie called me and asked me what she should do.
Simon: And what did you tell her?
Dahlia: Oh, I told her that she should insist on the entire story, with nothing held back. Do you have a problem with that advice?
Simon: Oh, no, that's great advice. I -- 'cause she did ask, and I did tell her everything.
Dahlia: "Everything" is a very big word.
Simon: Meaning what?
Dahlia: Well, here you are, given an enormous amount of money. And you could've actually bought any house you wanted. Instead, you end up with this.
Simon: If Katie did tell you everything, then you would know that we were putting most of the money away for the future. And what was left over -- yeah. Yeah, we loved this place.
Dahlia: Isn't that convenient? You forced the innocent wife to shack up in this disaster area while the rest of your fortune earns money for you in the bank.
Simon: There's the door. Get out of my house. Get out of my business.
Dahlia: See, you and Katie are my business, Simon. And I intend to protect it with everything I've got.
03-25-02 ... Omissions and Their Consequences
Kathy: I'm sorry. I thought you knew.
Katie: I do. You must have your facts wrong. Because Monique Ferrara died in an accident.
Kathy: I assure you that "Self" magazine is a highly respected publication, and our research.
Katie: Well, you should do it again, 'cause it's wrong.
Kathy: Katie, I know this must be confusing --
Katie: Wait, wait. Is this one of those games that journalists play in a celebrity interview to get a reaction out of us? To see what we'll say? Well, that is the most disgusting, underhanded thing I have ever heard of.
Kathy: Obviously, this interview was a mistake. I'm gonna go.
Katie: No. You know what? You said you had "research," right? Is this your research? Oh, no, no. There's me. Yeah -- oh, I see nothing here -- nothing to speak of. Wait a second. Where did you get these? Is this some kind of joke?
Kathy: They're all in the public domain. I'm not surprised Simon didn't advertise this part of his life. Go ahead and keep the folder. Some of the articles are pretty thought-provoking.
Katie: I don't care. None of it's true, all right? It's not true!
The Cottage
Dahlia: You haven't answered my question.
Simon: You know what? I'm not going to. Get out!
Dahlia: Once Katie's made millions with her video, do plan on killing her the way you murdered Monique Ferrara?
Simon: Check your facts, Dahlia. I'm not a murderer.
Dahlia: You've been saying that for so long. You've really convinced yourself, haven't you?
Simon: Listen, I did not kill Monique and --
Dahlia: Really? Well, the Sacramento police department -- that's not what they thought. In fact, you're still murder suspect number one in their eyes, and probably in the eyes of Ms. Ferrara's family.
Simon: Why the hell do you care about all this anyway?
Dahlia: They knew the type of so-called "man" that you really were. They saw the dollar signs in your eyes, didn't they? But Monique trusted you. She loved you -- until the end. And that's when she woke up. She finally started to see the heartless, cruel man that you really are. She knew that the only thing you loved about her was her money. She knew that she wasn't the first and would most definitely not be your last. She wanted a divorce. And you found out. So before she could have you removed from her life or erased from her will, murdered Monique Ferrara. You drowned your wife, tried to make it look like an accident and became the heir to her will. I know all about it, Simon. I know who you are.
Simon: Are you done?
Dahlia: Yes.
Simon: Well, good. So why don't you tell me something, Dahlia? Just who the hell are you?
Dahlia: Who am I? You already know the answer to that. I'm Katie's friend.
[Simon scoffs]
Simon: A friend? Oh, and this is why you're digging up all these stories from my past? What, to make your friend unhappy? Afraid? Or is this what happens to Dahlia when she doesn't get her way? I tell Katie about you crawling all over me, and what is this? Your pitiful payback?
Dahlia: Oh, get over yourself, Simon. I'm just doing what you should've done a long time ago.
Simon: Get the hell out of my personal life.
Dahlia: I thought I already explained this. Not only is Katie my friend, but she is my business partner. We stand to make bundles on these videos. It's my job to protect that investment. But that would be difficult if Katie should turn up dead.
Simon: Well, no one is going to end up dead -- except possibly you if you don't leave. And if you dare confront Katie about these insane speculations before I get a chance --
Dahlia: Don't you think you've had enough time?! I mean, how many years do you need to tell the truth?
Simon: Oh, get out! I'm not discussing this with you.
Dahlia: You think I'm the only one out there who knows what you did? If you don’t tell Katie the truth about the past, someone else will. I guarantee it.
[Simon scoffs]
Simon: What, -- are you actually blackmailing me?
Dahlia: No. I'm just giving you fair warning. 'Cause I am gonna be watching every move you make. And if Katie ends up in some kind of "accident" the way Monique did --
Simon: Why don't you get this into your thick head?! I didn't murder Monique! Katie -- hey, how was your interview?
Katie: I know all about Monique, Simon. What I want to know now is how long were you planning on keeping me in the dark?
Dahlia: Katie, I'm really sorry --
Katie: Dahlia, would you mind leaving me alone with my husband?
Dahlia: Of course. Call me if you need me.
Simon: So what did you hear?
Katie: Plenty. Although, lucky me, I already heard the whole story from the reporter that you met at Al's Diner. Seems like the wife is the last to know.
Simon: That's not the way I wanted you to find out.
Katie: How long were you gonna keep it a secret? That I'm married to someone who -- I can't even say it.
Simon: It's not like I was actually trying to keep it a secret. You know, it just never came up. What, I'm gonna lie in bed at night and say, "'night, babe, sweet dreams. And by the way, once upon a time, I was accused of murdering my wife!"
Katie: You should have told me before now!
Simon: When? When? When we were first married? I had no reason to! We weren't even together then.
Katie: What about when we finally fell in love?
Simon: Because we were happy then, remember? And I didn't want my past to get in the way. And I didn't want you to go obsessing about it and creating insane scenarios in your head the way that --
Katie: You should have told me anyway!
Simon: Okay!
Katie: When people tell me the facts, I don't have to obsess or conjure up stories!
Simon: All right, Katie. Okay, I'm telling you now!
Katie: That's too late.
Simon: Oh, God!
Katie: When you told me about Monique's death before, you just happened to leave out the fact that you were accused of drowning her. How could you do that to me? What about the vows we took? What about being honest with each other?
Simon: Okay. All right? All right. I should have trusted us. I should have put more trust in us.Ask me. Fine -- ask me anything you want.
Katie: You don't mean ask you anything. Because the one question I need to ask you--
Simon: Is if I -- if I killed her? Come on, Katie --
Katie: No -- I'm sorry. I'm sorry, but I just can't seem to come to terms with the fact that you would keep something like that from me. Not unless you had a good reason. I mean, you're obviously guilty about something, so -- Simon, are you? Are you guilty?
Simon: Yeah, it's true. I am guilty. I am responsible for Monique's death.
Katie: You killed Monique?
Simon: Not in the way the cops and the D.A. say I did.
Katie: Were you with her that night on the boat?
Simon: No.
Katie: All right. I need for you to just tell me everything that happened that night. Please.
Simon: I've told you before. The night that Monique died, we had a terrible fight. The private detective that she'd hired to spy on me had told her the type of man that I was, how I made my money. She was frantic, okay? She started drinking. All night, she just kept drinking. And then she tells me she wants to go for a sail, which I thought was sheer insanity. It was dark. She was drunk. And sailing by yourself at the best is dangerous, but when you're drunk it's just -- so I let her go. You know, things were over between us. She now despised me as much as she'd once loved me. And you know, quite frankly, I didn't care anymore. So I went for a swim to try and clear my head. A huge storm started rolling in. I started to get worried about Monique, so I went down to the dock to try and find her. There was nothing. Katie, her family, the Ferrara's, knew everyone who was anyone -- lawyers, media. So there was an inquest.
Katie: And you were accused. What did they say?
Simon: What did they say? The D.A. and the cops said that I had motive, the opportunity and the means to swim out to Monique's boat, to push her overboard and then swim all the way back to shore.
Katie: Well, how far was the boat from the dock?
Simon: Two miles. Now, I'm a strong swimmer, but I'm not that strong. And there was a huge storm rumbling. I couldn't do it!
Katie: Okay, so then, why were the charges were thrown out?
Simon: The case never went to trial. The prosecutor knew that he didn't have enough evidence to prove that I was guilty. Now I did not kill Monique, but I still -- I didn't feel like an innocent man. Katie, if I could have saved her, I would have saved her. But her family didn't believe me. And they especially didn't believe me when they took a look at the will. They contested that in court for years. And, you know, I didn't care! I just wanted the whole thing gone, out of my head!
Katie: Okay, but -- you told me that you found out about the accident from the newspapers.
Simon: I know. I know. I was just so ashamed to look into your eyes and tell you that a woman died because of me. Katie, Katie, honey, she drowned, okay? She drowned -- the way that my sister drowned. Now, I didn't want to think about it again. I didn't want to bring it up. I wanted those memories gone?
Katie: All right.
Simon: I am sorry.
Katie: All right. I'm glad you told me. And I don't hold you responsible for what happened to Monique.
Simon: Good.
Katie: But when you told me there were no secrets between us -- you lied again. You lied about the way you found out how Monique died. How am I ever gonna know that there aren't other things that you lied to me about?
Simon: Katie, be angry at me, be disappointed in me, but don't doubt us. That will let Dahlia win. She's been trying to break us up from the beginning. Do not give her the satisfaction, please!
Katie: What are you talking about? Dahlia was not the one who told me that you were a murder suspect! It was the reporter!
Simon: The reporter would have found out off Dahlia.
Katie: Oh, right, okay. No, she came with clippings from the Sacramento papers.
Simon: Oh, yeah. At the same time that Dahlia shows up here, so damned happy that she knows about my past, so pleased that she knows something that you don't. Katie, she is ruthless! Do you know what she said? She made a comment, a hideous comment about me murdering you for your money. Yeah, if you believe that --
Katie: I don't know what to believe anymore.
Simon: All right, then believe this -- if you continue to confide in Dahlia, then you're only giving her ammunition for her to pit us against each other.
Katie: Wait, you're saying this is my fault? You lied to me about something so -- I mean, like, huge, and you're saying that this is my fault?
Simon: That's not what I said, no.
Katie: Okay. You said that I was giving Dahlia ammunition, as if there's some kind of war here that I started.
Simon: I am not angry with you. I'm angry with Dahlia, okay? I'm just saying that you shouldn't trust her. I mean, if you hadn't told Dahlia about my inheritance from Monique, then she wouldn't have got all curious about my past.
Katie: Yeah, I'm pretty curious about your past, too.
Simon: And I told you everything there is to know. Word for word, you gotta take my word on this, all right? Now I need yours on something.
Katie: On what?
Simon: That our private and personal lives stay strictly between us, okay?
Katie: You're issuing orders now?
Simon: I'm sorry, that came out all wrong. It's been a hell of a day.
Katie: For both of us. You know, I knew that I didn't know every little detail about your past, but I feel like I'm just learning too many things about you.
Simon: And all I'm saying is that I think that our private lives should be kept between us. Dahlia doesn't need to know every little detail that goes on.
Katie: She doesn't know every little detail. We work together. We talk.
Simon: Do you know much about her private life, Katie? Didn't think so.
Katie: So now I can't have any friends?
Simon: You can have friends. I'm not trying to drive a wedge between you and Dahlia or ruin your career before it starts.
Katie: Well, if any of your secrets come to life, then I'm not gonna have a career. So, please, just tell me if you're neglecting to tell me anything else.
Simon: Yes, okay, I am. There's one more thing. Don't bring Dahlia anywhere near me. I do not want anything more to do with her.
Katie: Is that another order?
Simon: No. It's a heartfelt request.
Katie: She has to know a couple things about us for business purposes.
Simon: Oh, yeah, well, I've heard that one before, haven't I? Dahlia's interest in us, in me, is a little bit deeper than a professional interest. She's got something -- something more personal in this.
Katie: Oh, fascinating.
Simon: What?
Katie: How you have managed to turn this discussion or argument or whatever it is from being about us to being about her. You're the one that lied to me, Simon.
Simon: And I explained all that just here before!
Katie: All right, is this because you don't trust me?
Simon: No, this -- no. This is about --
Katie: All right, there was one answer to that question. "Of course I trust you." Well, you know what? Maybe I don't trust you anymore, either.
Simon: What, you don't trust me? You trust Dahlia -- you trust Dahlia more than you trust me?
Katie: I don't know. Maybe I should.
Simon: You don't know the slightest thing about her!
Katie: And I don't know anything about you anymore, either.
Java Underground
Jill: Oh, I know, I've been pulling a killer schedule.
Dahlia: Well, you said when there were developments regarding Simon Frasier, that you would be in touch.
Jill: Precisely.
Dahlia: Well, that can't be. You gave him the check from Monique's estate.
Jill: The check was deposited and that's all I can find out without a
Dahlia: He's got to be spending it on something. He didn't invest in real estate. That I'm sure of. The man inherits a small fortune and then he doesn't use it. What's he waiting for?
Jill: Why are you so sure he'll use it at all?
Dahlia: Because I know Simon Frasier. He's waiting until it's safe, until the next best thing comes along. You know, maybe it's seed money to start a new life, snag his next wife.
Jill: It's his money to spend, Dahlia. You have no say in this.
Dahlia: But he'll waste it. It's the last thing that Monique would have wanted is for some gigolo who never even loved her to fritter away her fortune. That money rightly belongs to the Ferrara's. You know it, and I know it!
Jill: Dahlia, you're angry.
Dahlia: Simon gave me the right to be angry! Monique was my sister! He didn't just destroy her life. He destroyed us all. He got that inheritance. Now it's time for him to pay.
Jill: You're not threatening a man's life in front of a lawyer.
Dahlia: Let me just put it this way. Hypothetically, of course. If something catastrophic were to happen to Simon, and if the plans for such an event were in the works as we speak -- well, I may finally see some justice.
03-26-02 ... Sorrow Given, Never Meant
Simon: Yeah, well, you're gonna have to because we cannot leave things the way they are.
Katie: Yeah, and you can't fix them, either, especially not with a few well-chosen words.
Simon: Okay. I should have told you the whole story, all right? I wanted to. But now, thanks to Dahlia, I don't even get a chance to do this on my own time.
Katie: Oh, stop blaming it on Dahlia. It's your fault.
Simo: Why are you trying to defend her? Do you not see what she's trying to do to us?
Katie: I just don't want you to be right about her.
Simon: Why?
Katie: Because, if she's just after you, then that means she didn't pick me out specially. It means that the video didn't go because I'm talented. It went because I'm your wife.
Simon: It doesn't matter why it happened.
Katie: Yes, it does. It does to me. You know what I lost tonight, Simon? I lost faith -- in you and in myself.
Simon: Look, I'm sorry that I hurt you, okay, in any way, Katie. But you have to listen to me.
Waitress: One coffee, black.
Katie: Thanks.
Simon: Black? You only like sugar with extra cream.
Katie: Well, I'm depressed, and it's your fault.
Simon: Look, I know I'm not easy sometimes, okay? But you know how I feel about you. And that is the only reason that I didn't tell you that I was accused of killing Monique. Because I -- I don't know. I guess I didn't want you to kick me out because you knew something like that about me.
Katie: You never back down because you're scared.
Simon: I know. I know. I guess I told myself that it didn't really matter whether you knew or not because nothing ever came of the accusation. Katie, look at me. Listen to me, please. I'm going to tell you once more for the record, okay? I did not kill Monique. The police couldn't even build a case against me. The only thing leftover is bad publicity, and that is what Dahlia is trying to capitalize on. You've got to ignore her.
Katie: I can't ignore her. She's important to me.
Simon: As a business partner. That is all. Do not let her get personal.
Katie: Hello, Simon. Have you seen my calendar anytime lately? It's blank. No lunches with the ladies, no hanging out with the girls, going to movies. Nothing. Women don't exactly like me. So you can't just tell me to ignore her and not talk to her.
Simon: Dahlia is not your friend, okay?
Katie: Oh, right, I forgot. How could she like me? How could she believe in me? No one else does. I'm not that special.
Simon: That is -- sit down. That is not what I'm saying! Katie, you know that. Of course you are special. The only reason that this workout video is going to be any good is because of you, okay? And Dahlia knows that. That is why she is trying to insure your loyalty, okay? She's trying to get me out of the picture, to push me away because she wants you to become dependent on her, and she'll be able to use you for that much longer.
Katie: You really think she's trying to tear us apart?
Simon: Yes. Yes. And I can prove it to you.
Katie: No, don't. You're gonna ruin everything for me!
Simon: I'm not -- I'm not trying to ruin anything! I'm trying to save us. And for some reason I thought that would be important to you as well.
Katie: Oh, hey, don't twist my words around. You know, I love you more than anything, but I -- I have to think of myself. I'm not like your other wives. They're desperate. I have self-respect.
Oakdale Police Department
Margo: Great, I'm not.
Simon: All right, before you go, I need -- I need a favor from you.
Margo: Well, it's really -- it's gonna have to wait until tomorrow. Okay?
Simon: No. No, it can't. Because my marriage may not last that long.
Craig's Suite
Katie: Can I stay here tonight?
Craig: Yeah. I'm still paying for that room on the other side of the suite.
Katie: Well, there's no way I'm sleeping there tonight.
Craig: What is that? Your new teddy bear?
Lucy: Hi, Aunt Katie.
Katie: Hey.
Craig: So something wrong in loveland?
Katie: Simon's keeping secrets from me.
Lucy: He isn't being unfaithful, is he?
Katie: No. No, some men know instinctively that being unfaithful isn't cool.
Craig: It isn't? Joking.
Katie: No jokes right now, please. I'm in the middle of a nightmare. I just wanna wake up from it.
Lucy: Why, what happened?
Katie: A long time ago, Simon was accused of murdering one of his former wives.
Lucy: Murder? Simon?
Craig: Well, Katie, talk is cheap. I've been accused of growing horns up here, but look at this. Nothing but professional grooming. Huh? So how about you think he's innocent?
Katie: Yeah. The police arrested him, but they ended up letting him go 'cause there wasn't any proof. But the point is, he didn't tell me. And he should have, don't you think? Don't you think a wife should know if her husband's been accused of murder?
Craig: Well, Katie, let me give you a little lesson in the ways of men.
Katie: Oh, no, please don't.
Craig: The reason we don't like to give bad news to our women is because there are only three possible reactions, none of which we want to enjoy. The first is the lecture. The second is the screaming match. And the third, my personal favorite, is the weeping breakdown.
Katie: Yeah, well, I've had all of those in the past couple hours.
Craig: Oh, poor Simon. I rest my case.
Katie: But none of it -- not tears, not the yelling, nothing could fix it. And that's the problem. Nothing can change the fact that Simon didn't trust me. And from now on, nothing's ever gonna be the same.
Craig: Well, do you think your husband is a murderer?
Katie: Of course not.
Craig: Well, golly gee, Katie, what is the problem here?
Katie: Stop confusing me. There is a problem, and I need time to figure it out. So, what's your answer? Can I stay here?
Craig: Oh, sure. Why not?
Katie: Thank you. I know where the extra blankets are, so I'll just make up the couch.
Craig: That couch isn't that comfortable.
Katie: Oh, I'll throw some extra pillows on it. You'll be fine.
Craig: I'll be fine?
Katie: Yeah, if I sleep there, I might hurt my back. And I can't risk that.
Craig: And I can?
Katie: Craig, my launch party, tomorrow night. I can't walk in there all bent. I'll ruin my career as a fun and fabulous fitness instructor. So, sorry. Celebrity is so fragile.
Craig: Well, Katie the catastrophe has gone to bed. How about you? You ready to turn in?
Lucy: Yes.
Craig: All right.
Lucy: Actually -- dad, how could Uncle Simon keep such a big secret from Aunt Katie? They love each other so much.
Craig: Well, I think most people have secrets they don't wanna share. Even with someone they love.
Oakdale Police Department
Simon: Thanks, Margo. I really -- I really appreciate it.
Margo: So you said that Katie had a big surprise for you tonight. What was it?
Simon: Yeah. She was being interviewed by a reporter for "Self" magazine.
Margo: Well, a magazine. Man, she must've loved that.
Simon: Yeah, she did. Until the reporter clued her into something in my past, something that I hadn't even told her.
Margo: You mean that you were arrested on suspicion of murder?
Simon: You know about that?
Margo: Of course I know about that, Simon. I ran a security check on you when I deputized you. But since I saw no conviction, I thought, "why dwell on it?"
Simon: Well, thanks. Look, I had nothing to do with killing my ex-wife, Margo. She died in an accident, and for some reason, Dahlia wants Katie to know all about it. She's out to destroy us. I have no idea why.
Margo: Man, you are just falling more and more in love with Katie, aren't you?
Simon: Yeah, yeah, I am. [ Fax machine rings ] She just seems to make sense out of my life.
Margo: Well, that's good, because she makes chaos out of everybody else's.
[ Fax machine beeps ] This could be us. Wow, Simon, a whole lot of things are gonna make sense after you read this.
Craig's Suite
Simon: Hey. Katie isn't in our room and I really need to talk to her.
Craig: Katie?!
Craig: Come in, Simon. You bring your jammies?
Simon: No, I sleep in the buff. Look, I really need to talk to you, Katie. But privately. Thanks, Craig.
Craig: Oh, don't mind me. I can sleep in the bathtub, unless anyone would like to take a bath. No? Well, nighty-night, then.
Katie: So, did you think of more secrets you didn't tell me?
Simon: Yeah, I did, but it's not one of min look, I just did another check on Dahlia. Okay? And I thought the name Ventura sounded made up and was ridiculous. It's because it's her business name all right? Her real name is Dahlia Ferrara.
Katie: "Ferrara"?
Simon: She's Monique's sister.
Katie: And you didn't recognize her?
Simon: Well, I never met her. She was in Europe the whole time that Monique and I were together.
Katie: Well, I'm sure Monique must've mentioned her.
Simon: She did. She did. She did. She mentioned her by her Nickname, Katie -- Dolly. Dahlia has obviously come back into town to get at me for what happened to Monique. And, I'm sorry, but she's using you to do it. Look, I know this must hurt, all right. But at least we're dealing with the truth now. Look, Katie, listen to me. We can stop Dahlia, but we have to do it together. All right, we cannot let her turn us against each other.
Katie: All right, maybe you're right. Can we talk about this in the morning?
Simon: Yeah, sure. If you please, just come back to our bed where we can sleep together.
Katie: I'm too sad.
Simon: Okay. You are the one person that I never, ever wanted to make sad. Not for a single second.
03-28-02 ... A Matter of Trust
Simon: Well, I never said you weren't good. Katie, you're a natural.
Katie: Yeah, but that's why you did a background check on Dahlia in the first place,'cause you couldn't believe that she would actually be interested in me enough to invest in me.
Simon: No. No, what I couldn't believe was that someone who was invested in you would turn around and try and hit on your husband. Look, now that we know that she's Monique's sister --
Katie: But that doesn't change the fact, Simon, that you never told me you were accused of murder.
Simon: What? You're never gonna trust me again?
Katie: I didn't say that.
Simon: Then what?
Katie: I don't know! This whole situation has just made me look at certain things and question them.
Simon: But you're not gonna question Dahlia?
Katie: I called her. She's -- on her way over.
Simon: Oh, great. And you were gonna tell me this when? When? What, after the two of you had a little heart-to-heart? Is that why you've been avoiding me?
Katie: Yes, all right? She is my business partner --
Simon: Fine! No, do it your way!
Katie: Wait, Simon, don't leave!
Simon: Katie, I have tried. You knew what I was and why I didn't want to marry you. I warned you.
Katie: Yeah, you told me that you were a gold-digger and that you were married like 800 times, not that you had been accused of murder!
Simon: Doesn't it matter to you that I was wrongly accused?! I didn't murder anyone, okay?! [Simon turns and knocks down Katie's promotional poster for her workout video]
Katie: Don't touch her! Don't touch it.
Simon: Is she okay?
Katie: No, she's not. Do you know how horrible it feels not to be able to trust you?
Simon: Okay.
Katie: For months and months, I trusted you when no one else would have. For instance, when we first met, you were in love with a married woman. Who would trust that? Me. Who would trust a guy who says, "I'll never love you"? "I don't love you now. I'm never going to." Lets you run off to a desert island. And then when he finally rescues you, just yells at you? Me. Who would trust in some guy who goes off to Malta with his ex, stays in the same room with her? Me. I know how to trust.
Simon: So why don't you trust me now?
Katie: Because -- I'm about to be famous, and we're gonna live in this beautiful cottage. And you and me and Snickers can live there forever, if we want to. And we'll be happy. And we'll have money. And it's all so way too good to be true. And you know what they say about if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. What if you don't really love what if this is just some ?
Simon: Is that what you think? That I don't love you? Ah. Katie -- who would put up with you if they didn't love you? [sighs ] Look -- Dahlia is trying to break us up. She's angry, she wants revenge.
[Knock at door]
Katie: And she's here.
Simon: All right, before you get that, before you -- are you with me on this? Okay? Are we gonna confront Dahlia together?
Katie: Just let me break it to her on my own terms, okay? Dahlia! Great. Thanks for coming right over.
Dahlia: Well, I figured we'd need to brainstorm before the release party tonight. Have you looked at the clothes I sent over?
Katie: Not yet.
Dahlia: Well, I vote for the blue. It photographs really well.
Katie: So, when were you gonna tell me you were Monique's sister, Dolly?
Dahlia: It's true. I'm Monique's sister.
Simon: I told you she had an agenda. To hound us until we gave back the money.
Dahlia: I don't care about the money. I have my own fortune, unlike you.
Simon: Why is it so difficult for you to believe that I never wanted that money?
Dahlia: Oh, yeah, and there it sits in your bank account.
Katie: So, wait a minute. The whole reason you're here, the whole reason that you tracked me down to put me in that video was to get back at Simon?
Dahlia: No, Katie. I'm here to save your life.
Simon: Oh, this is good. This is -- so what are -- what are you trying to say? That, what, I would hurt Katie?
Katie: No, wait. Stop, Simon. Let's just hear what she has to say. Why do you think my life's in danger?
Dahlia: Because Simon goes after wealthy women --
Katie: Well, you can stop right there. I'm not a wealthy woman. In fact, our whole first year of marriage, we lived next to a garage.
Dahlia: Yes, while he pursued Lily Snyder, who is rich.
Katie: Yes, but Lily would be the first person to tell you what an amazing person he is.
Dahlia: You know what? My sister said the same thing, up till the day she died.
Katie: I am sure you miss your sister, and I'm sorry about that. But if you're trying to connect the dots here, I don't fit the pattern. I didn't have a penny until you rolled into town.
Dahlia: Look, don't be naive, Katie. Look around you! Your brother's a multimillionaire who's letting you share his penthouse.
Katie: Yeah, but he doesn't let us share his millions. In fact, we're moving out of the penthouse into a little cottage that we have to fix up.
Dahlia: With the money that Simon inherited from my sister.
Katie: No, he won't even touch that money. In fact, it would've gone to charity if I didn't stop him.
Dahlia: Katie, don't you see? He knew you would stop him.
Katie: I don't see. And I don't understand why you would come here and make me rich if making me rich would put me in danger.
Dahlia: Listen -- before I came here, I didn't really know you, how strong you are, how resilient. I figured the best way to protect you would be to jump-start your career, give you a nest egg, so that you can walk away free and clear.
Simon: Oh, please! What, like you're doing this out of the goodness of your heart? Yeah, right. What's your cut, Dahlia?
Dahlia: After tonight, there doesn't have to be one. Let me launch you, and then you can be on your own, if that's what you want. You buy me out of the contract. I don't care.
Simon: Oh, of course you care. Of course you care. And that's what's driving you nuts. You thought you had it all figured out, didn't you? Monique died because of me. Oh, yeah. Oh, it had nothing to do with the fact that her whole family abandoned her. You wanna know the reason why I never met Dahlia, Katie? Because she was nowhere to be found. Monique hadn't heard from her in years. She was lucky if Dolly here even returned her e-mails.
Katie: Okay, listen, Dahlia, whatever issues you have to work out, you're gonna have to work them out without us. Simon had nothing to do with Monique's death.
Dahlia: He was charged with murder.
Katie: And the charges were dropped because of insufficient evidence.
Dahlia: Is that what he told you?
Simon: Oh, now what?
Dahlia: There was plenty of evidence. The charges were dropped on a technicality. Your husband got away with murder.
Katie: Your case got thrown out on a technicality?
Simon: The lawyers said it would have been thrown out, anyway. Because there was never any real evidence. Remember? Which is why they couldn't reinstate the charges.
Dahlia: To answer your question, Katie, the case was dismissed because he was never read his rights.
Katie: The thing is, Dahlia, I know you must miss your sister. But Simon didn't kill her. And we love each other. So just give it up!
Dahlia: You sound just like Monique. And despite what Simon seems to think, Monique and I talked all the time. Or I should say that she talked about Simon, and I listened. She talked about how he seduced her, then walked away knowing that she would run after him. But he would tell her how he was no good, and he would prove it by spending time with other women. And he played the guitar for her. Did he ever sing the blues for you, Katie? That's what he does best. He's a he steals your heart, and then he --
Simon: All right, that's enough. All right? Get out! And don't ever come near my wife again!
Dahlia: Or what, Simon? You'll kill me?
Simon: Oh, tell me you don't believe her.
03-29-02 ... Through the Good and Bad Times
Katie: What do you want to hear, Simon?
Simon: It's not what I want to hear, Katie. I want you to look me in the eye and tell me that you trust me.
Katie: I gotta go get ready. Tonight is the biggest night for me ever, professionally -- since the Endicott Awards.
Simon: That party's being thrown by a woman who accused me of murder and you're still gonna go? Listen, Katie, if you go to that party --
Katie: What? I'm choosing her over you? What if I'm choosing me over both of you tonight? It's my night.
Simon: Right, I know it is, okay? And you deserve it. I also deserve an answer. Do you believe me? Do you believe Dahlia? You better tell me, Katie, because, believe me -- I mean, I think our future depends on it.
Katie: Okay, put yourself in my position for a second. I have a husband who has lived by his wits and off his women his entire life. And you've made a mess of things. But that's okay. I can handle that. I've made a few messes of my own. It's just, right now, I don't understand where any of this is coming from. All of the sudden, you're keeping things secret and you're telling little white lies and you're covering your tracks. I don't even know what to believe anymore. And you have the audacity to stand there and issue me an ultimatum? Who are you?
Katie: I adore you. And I do believe in you. And you are mine, I am yours till the end of time. Please commit that to memory. It's just right now, I'm a little bit -- no, you know what? Scratch that. I am furious. I am being forced to digest the fact that your dead wife, Monique, just happens to be Dahlia's dead sister. And no one's denying the fact that there are some pretty weird circumstances surrounding her death. So, I'm gonna go smile for the cameras and meet my backers and greet my fans.
Simon: Listen, Dahlia just stood here -- Dahlia stood here and admitted that she tricked you into this entire thing to save you from your wife-killing husband.
Katie: She also said that she would back out of this whole thing after tonight. I'll buy her out of her contract, and you and I will go back to feathering our little nest.
Simon: Really? Really?
Katie: Yeah, really. That is what want. It's what I need. But I also need this video. You know how much sweat and energy I've put into it.
Simon: I know you have, but --
Katie: So, I'm not gonna boycott my own release party. I won't do it. Just because Dahlia's no angel? Who cares? So what? Who is? I want tonight. I want people whispering about me for all the right reasons. I want champagne and photographers and, most of all, I want you there -- by my side. Please, just say you'll come with me tonight. Suit yourself. I'll go alone. You know, Simon, I am learning so many things about you -- things I wish I'd never known.
Simon: No, you're wrong, Katie. You don't want me there -- unless you want to see me with my hands around Dahlia's throat.

Firefighter #3: You look gorgeous.
Katie: Well, thank you, Daniel. That's just 'cause you usually see me in my workout clothes. Where are the other guys?
Firefighter #3: I don't know. I guess flirting with all the girls.
Katie: I'm sure of it. I'll see you in a minute.
Dahlia: All right, everyone. Let's welcome our guest of honor -- Katie Frasier!
[Applause]
Lucy: You look terrific!
Katie: Thank you. So do you.
Dahlia: Doesn't she? Listen, I want to introduce you to one of our producers, Herb Wolfson. He was just over here. Oh, he's right over there. The one with the blue tie.
Katie: Okay.
Dahlia: Herb is gonna be one of the major investors in your follow-up video.
Katie: My what? I don't have a follow-up video.
Dahlia: You do now.
Nancy: Congratulations, Katie, on your video.
Katie: Oh, thank you so much. Did you get a chance to see it?
Nancy: Oh, yes, of course. One can get a full cardio-vascular workout just looking at these marvelous men.
Katie: Oh, I'll bet.
Nancy: Come on, men, let's go over here.
Katie: You look great.
Firefighter #1: Thank you.
Dahlia: I just want to say that I'm really glad that you're here.
Katie: What? You thought I wouldn't make it to my own party?
Dahlia: Well, after the things that were said earlier -- I didn't want to upset you, but I know that I did.
Katie: What were your intentions, Dahlia?
Dahlia: Listen, I just really loved my sister very much, and it just drives me crazy --
Katie: You know what? I'm not going there tonight. I am here to have a good time, to work, and to greet my fans.
Dahlia: You know what? You're right. And I just wanted to apologize to you and to Simon. Where is he?
Katie: He's not here tonight, thanks to you.
[Katie walks away]
Dahlia: Simon'll be here, all right. We'll make sure of that.
[Dahlia calls Simon from her cell phone]
Simon: Yeah, hello?
Dahlia: Katie, don't be silly. This is a time for celebration! Not for making phone calls.
Simon: Katie?
Dahlia: Look, sweetie -- if you need a doormat for that charming little cottage of yours, I'll be happy to buy it for you. But listen, I don't want you to volunteer for the job. Listen, you're a star. This is your night to shine. No. Please, just forget about Simon. Cut him loose. He made it perfectly clear that that's exactly what he's doing to you. That's how it all begins.
Simon: Katie. Katie, can you hear me? Ka --
Photographer: A big smile.
Producer: Her smile could light up the universe.
Katie: Thank you, Mr. Wolfson.
Producer: Herb, please. You know, I like your angle on exercise.
Katie: Really?
Producer: I like all your angles. If you're free after this, there's a quiet club --
Katie: Actually, you know what, we should meet at the gym. We'll do a couple laps. And then we'll have a breakfast meeting. It'll be fun. Call Dahlia and set it up.
Photographer: Miss Frasier?
Katie: Mrs.! [ to Lucy ] If Mr. Wolfson comes looking for me, just tell him that I got food poisoning or something.
Lucy: Where's Uncle Simon?
Katie: He's at home, sulking, hating me.
Lucy: No, he doesn't hate you. What's wrong? He -- he didn't want to get dressed up?
Katie: Unfortunately it's a little more complicated than that.
Lucy: This is the most important night of your life. And the man you adore isn't here? Take your phone, call your husband.
Katie: Well --
Dahlia: Katie? I need a moment.
Katie: Oh, no, what now? What is it?
Dahlia: Oh, how would you like to feast your eyes on a thing of true beauty?
Katie: What is it?
Dahlia: Just a few faxes, some of the early sales reports. They can't keep the video on the shelves.
Lisa: Let's hear it for the butt buster! And all these hard working guys, the best in the business.
[ Applause ]
Katie: Yes, thank you so much, everyone. And to my boys, I couldn't have done it without you. Thank you.
Dahlia: Listen -- listen to this one actually. "Katie Frasier, for all your hard work in the fitness industry and charitable donations to the New York Fire Department, the New York Sports Club has officially begun a butt busting class in your honor."
Katie: You're kidding me?
Dahlia: We did it!
Katie: That is so amazing.
Dahlia: Yes!
Lucy: This has got to be like the best night of your life.
Katie: It is, definitely, it's just -- oh, you know what they say, I guess it's true.
Lucy: What?
Katie: Success is nothing without someone to share it with.
Lucy: Simon's just a phone call away.
Katie: No, he's not, he's right here. I knew you wouldn't miss this. Hey?
Simon: So, what's going on?
Katie: This is so amazing. It's the best night of my life. And it's even better now that you're here.
Simon: So why didn't you just say that to me when you called earlier?
Katie: When I called? I didn't call you.
Simon: When you called earlier, I heard party noise in the background, you and Dahlia were --
Katie: Were? What were we doing? I didn't -- what did I say?
Simon: Come to think of it, Dahlia was doing most of the talking. Hello, Dolly.
Dahlia: Oh, glad you could join us, Simon.
Simon: Oh, yeah, keep pushing me, keep pushing me. You'll get a reaction you never bargained for.
Dahlia: I -- I don't know what you're talking about.
Katie: Simon --
Simon: [to Dahlia] Just stay away from me, or I swear to God you will be very sorry!
Java Underground, Bar
Isaac: I got it, Vivian.
Vivian: Okay.
Isaac: You better slow down there, mate. The last time you were drinking this hard, you turned the Walsh estate into a drive-thru.
Simon: Oh, yeah, good times.
Isaac: Please tell me you're not looking to settle any scores tonight.
Simon: Only one.
Isaac: Shouldn't you be with your wife?
Simon: Yeah, yeah, I should, should. You know, some things just don't work out the way they should sometimes.
Isaac: You're telling me.
Simon: Yeah, exactly. Take you for example. You've got a beautiful girlfriend, but you're always fighting with her.
Isaac: Bonnie and I don't fight anymore.
Simon: Since when?
Isaac: Since she left the country.
Simon: I rest my case.
Isaac: No more for him.
Vivian: Okay.
Java Underground
Katie: Oh, no, no need for speeches tonight.
Dahlia: Here we go.
Katie: Dahlia --
Dahlia: Hello. Everybody, hi. I just want to thank you. I'm Dahlia Ventura. I want to thank you for your attention, and for joining crimson Dahlia productions in the kickoff of our newest and most popular video, "Katie Frasier's Butt-Bustin' Workout"! [ Applause ] Now that it's taking the country by wildfire, it's time for me to say good-bye. That's right. Most of you probably don't know this yet, but tonight is going to be my last night in this wonderful little town. I wish I could stay. But I've actually written a little something to illustrate just how much Katie has meant to me. I hope that you'll indulge me. "Here's to the women who makes dreams come true, who made me believe in miracles. I thought I had so much to teach her, but I had so much to learn. She's taught me what it means to give, to ask, to succeed, and to live. I look at her, and I see the future. A long, happy future filled with memories we'll cherish forever. Here's to the one who made it happen."
Dahlia: "This isn't just a partnership, this is destiny. This woman changed my life. The first time I saw her, I knew that we would do great things together. She inspires me, makes me want to do better, be better.I know one day down the line, when we're both old and gray" --
Simon: Shut up! For God's sake, why don't you just shut your mouth!
Dahlia: I thought you'd like my toast, Simon. They are your words, after all. The same words you used to toast my sister on your wedding night. What about the promises you made to Monique? Before you murdered her?
Katie: Simon, what are you doing?!
Simon: Getting you out of here, Dahlia.
Dahlia: What did I say? What did I say? Simon?!
Simon: What the hell are you trying to do to us!
Katie: You're hurting her! You're --
Simon: Hurting her?! I barely even touched her!
Isaac: Calm down, just breathe.
Dahlia: You keep him away from me!
Katie: What is going on with you?
Simon: She knows exactly what she's doing. And I just came here to stop her.
