  • 06-01-01 ... Katie: Girl Scout Extroadinaire

  • Oakdale Police Station

Simon: Who does that judge work for? When I want to stay in the country, they can't get rid of me fast enough. And now I actually want to leave, they force me to stick around.
Cass: Doing 20 days of community service is a hell of lot better than 30 days in the slammer.
Simon: All I can say is, Craig better make good on that dough. And while he's at it, throw in some hazard pay for smuggling in that note.
    Cass: Simon -- I didn't hear that.
Simon: Yeah, what else haven't you heard?
Cass: Look, the less I know, the safer you are. But I will say this, whatever's going on, he seems pretty pleased with his progress.
Simon: Good. Fine, maybe I'll get my money after all.
Cass: First things first. Right now, wait for them to bring you your belongings. I still have some paperwork to fill out before you're free to walk to out of here.
[ Cass leaves the room and Margo walks in ]
Margo: Well, well, well -- my favorite brother-in-law is our special guest once again.
    Simon: Yep.
Margo: I'd say it's good to see you, but I've got so much trouble around here, I don't want to compound it with lies.
Simon: I'm just waiting for somebody to bring me my things, and then I'm outta here.
Margo: Ah. Where's Katie, hocking gold fillings to make your bail?
Simon: Don't worry. Katie's got absolutely nothing to do with this. She's away at the moment, probably stirring up trouble for some other unsuspecting bloke.

    The Island

    Katie: Hurry up!
    Henry: Yes, bwana.
    Katie: This is it.
Henry: Yeah. Oh, yeah? Well, do you mind if I leave the piano till morning? It looks so lovely sitting there in the sand with waves gently lapping at its carved le
Katie: What on earth are you talking about, Henry? Oh, can you believe this is really it?!
Henry: Katie, it's been "it" all day. It's been "it" since we started this hike. All right? It's been beach and rocks and sand. This is it, nothing.
Katie: This spot -- this right here -- this is exactly where Simon and Lily stayed. I can't believe we found it. It's exactly the way he described it. The cave must be right over there. And those rocks out there -- that's exactly where his sister went down with the diamond.
Henry: Ouch. No wonder she didn't make it. It's craggier than I thought.
Katie: The diamond is out there, Henry.
[ Henry grunts ] it's just sitting there, waiting for us to pluck it up. All right, break out the scuba gear.
    Henry: Katie, it's dark.
Katie: So what? We already wasted an entire day. If you hadn't slept so late, we could have gotten here hours ago.
Henry: Well, I'm sorry, but plane wrecks -- they tend to take their toll on me.
Katie: Exactly. All the reason more to get started. Simon's not gonna stay in Oakdale forever, and we have to find that diamond before he leaves. Now, I know I've got some flippers in your size.
Henry: Will you just tune in to the station with the news, please?
    Katie: Let's go.
Henry: Listen. If we find that diamond -- okay -- it is meaningless. It is not gonna bring Simon back for you.
Katie: Oh, ye of little faith.
Henry: It is not going to bring him back because you're never going to see him again. Thanks to your fearless landing, our plane is in pieces on the other side of the island.
Katie: So what? We made it out alive, didn't we? Don't you know how to look at the upside of things?
Henry: What? Hey, the upside? Katie -- ka - why isn't this processing with you, huh? Me, Gilligan. You, Mary Ann. We're stranded.

    Henry: Oh.
Katie: What's really going on with you, Henry?
Henry: Oh, I -- I don't know, Katie, a plane wreck, a cracked skull. I'm stranded on a deserted island with ginger. You know, you're right. There must be something deeper gnawing at me.
Katie: Okay. Thank you again. Thank you for putting yourself in front of me when the plane went down.
[ A childlike voice ] thank you, Henwy, for endurwing that painfuw wittle boo-boo.
Henry: I -- I know. I should have just left you and saved something more valuable, like my martini olives.
Katie: Oh, would you relax? You know I always have a backup plan?
Henry: Yeah -- yeah, Katie -- yeah, I'm always your backup plan, you know? And this time, your backup is as out of luck as you are. I mean -- and I'm the only one that realizes it.
Katie: Oh, would you stop being such a worrywart?
[ Henry sighs ] do you remember the letter that I left for Simon, "gone to find your diamond"? As soon as he realizes that I've been gone for so long, he's gonna come and rescue us. Oh, I'm sure he's worried sick already.

    Oakdale Police Station

Simon: Yeah? Well, to tell you the truth, it's actually been a little bit too quiet with Katie gone. You know, I actually considered renting one of those -- those yappy little yorkshire terriers that come and nip at your ankles every now and again.
Margo: Simon, I've known since the beginning, ever since Katie entered into this sham of a marriage of yours, that you really didn't care a lot about her. You thought that she had somehow tricked you, but actually, she did you a big favor. She gave up a lot just to keep you in this country. So you would think, all things considered, that you could be just a little bit concerned when she shows up missing!
Simon: I told you she is not missing. Margo, she left on her own accord, and she will be back soon.
Margo: Listen to you. She -- she -- she could be hurt, and you don't even care!
Simon: She's gonna be fine! All right? If anyone knows how to land on your feet, it's your sister. Now --

    Margo: Ah, thanks.
Simon: Well, well, personal delivery straight from the top?
Margo: Yeah, your lucky day. Ah, ah, ah. I have a few questions for you.
Simon: I don't suppose I can refuse to answer?
Margo: No, not if you want to get out of here anytime soon.
    Simon: I do. Fine, shoot.
    Margo: Shoot.
    Simon: So to speak.
Margo: It says that you spent the night in jail because you decked my brother?
Simon: Yes, I did. Well, we had a little argument, so I hit him. Me and Craig are on the outs anyway.
Margo: So how is it that his lawyer's here to spring you?
Simon: What, Cass can't have more than one client?
Margo: It also says here that you list your address as the Lakeview.
Simon: Yep, last time I checked.
Margo: And you're going back there now?
    Simon: Uh-huh, yep.
Margo: So Craig Montgomery is going to let you waltz back into his suite, he's going to pick up the tab for you after you decked him? What's the matter, Frazier? Nobody give you a quick answer for that one?
Simon: Look, Margo, it's really not that complicated. We had a little difference. He pushed the wrong buttons. I hit him, and now I'm doing community service. End of story.
    Margo: Yeah, we'll see.

    The Island

Henry: Your so-called "husband" doesn't give a damn about you, Katie. It doesn't take a nuclear physicist to figure that out. When he finds that letter, he's going to throw it away. And then, he's going to buy himself a drink to celebrate and congratulate himself for finally getting rid of you, which, by the way, is exactly what I'd like right now. Where's that gin?
Katie: You'll eat your words, Henry. You will.
Henry: I'm going to have to eat something, Katie, since you didn't pack any food.
Katie: Well, maybe we'll just have to fend for ourselves. Lucky for you, I saw every episode of "Survivor."
Henry: Yes, so you've told me. And Richard Hatch is my personal hero, but since we don't have anyone to form an alliance with here, I can't vote you off the island.
Katie: True. So I think it's about time that we choose a leader.
Henry: I choose that buzzard circling overhead.
    Katie: I choose me.
Henry: What qualifies you to be leader, Ginger?
Katie: Well, I was a girl scout for almost a year.
Henry: Almost a year? Wow. What happened, huh? After six months, did the troop leader have to be committed?
Katie: I was there long enough to gain a few badges -- one for learning how to build a fire, one for building a hut with sticks and stuff and one for semaphore.
Henry: Semaphore?! Where's that crate of orange flags that washed up on the shore with us? Come on, now. Let's just go practice!
Katie: And what can you do, smarty-pants?
Henry: I can build a pyramid out of olive pits that would rival the ancient wonders of Egypt.
Katie: So that would be nothing, no skills, nada. I'm leader.
Henry: Katie, what difference does it make who the leader is?! We are stranded, hello, on a deserted island with a heretofore unknown amount of beasties. We got a bag full of vending machine goodies for food, one canteen of water and a very limited supply of martini ingredients. What difference does it make who's in charge?
Katie: None, I guess. So that settles it. I'm in charge.
Henry: Okay. Oh, wise leader, oh, Girl Scout extraordinaire, what job do you have for me? Would you like me to bake some peanut butter cookies and sell them to the iguanas?
Katie: Okay. No, why don't you go take a look for the cave that Simon told me about -- it should be right over there -- and get it ready for us to sleep tonight, all right?
Henry: Okay, I'll put on some fresh linens and rev up the AC. Would you like a mint on your pillow?
Katie: I'll look for sticks for the fire.
Henry: Did Simon say something about bats in that cave?
Katie: Just find the cave, Henry!
Henry: "Just find the cave, Henry!"
Katie: All right. We got everything we need here -- twigs, sticks, nice loggy part. Okay. This is a little harder than I thought. One good whack ought to do it. Oh, thank you, Henry, for not seeing that.

Katie: Come on, light. Oh, I don't need any more bad news, Henry. Please tell me that you found that cave.
Henry: Yeah, I found it, all right, little miss fire-starter. It would make a very cozy home -- if we were fish.
Katie: What are you talking about?
Henry: It's flooded, Katie. It's full of water and living sushi.
Katie: What? No, that's impossible. Simon and Lily stayed there. It's supposed to have a hot spring tub and a bed and a table and plates made of gourds.
Henry: Yeah, well, maybe I should have called ahead and made reservations. The fish could have told us it was high tide.
Katie: How was I supposed to know that it floods here? If you wouldn't have slept so late, we would have gotten an earlier start. There would have been sunlight, and we could have found another cave.
Henry: I didn't not sleep late, pontoon girl! I was unconscious!
    Katie: Oh, whatever!
Henry: Listen, you're the self-appointed little scout leader here. Why don't you tell me what the backup plan is for today?
Katie: I guess we'll have to build a lean-to or something. It's getting chilly, so in the meantime, we've got to get a fire.
Henry: [ pretending to warm his hands in front of the non-existent fire ] That's so nice, Katie. That's so warm and cozy.
    Katie: Shut up, Henry!

Henry: Look at all these reality shows, Katie. I should have brought a video camera along. This would have been a ratings blockbuster.
Katie: I am so sick of your cynical, negative attitude, Henry. Why don't you try and get a spark?
Henry: All right. Fire -- the greatest discovery of our species, the single element that separates man from ape. Fire -- the quest for which has tribe against tribe, brother against brother.
Katie: Can it, and get some smoke going.
Henry: Watch, Peretti, as the master creates fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire. [ Henry pulls a lighter out of his pocket and starts the fire ] Whoa-oa-oa, ooh. O-o-o-o-o-oh. O-o-o-oh. You know, Katie, why don't you forget about the fire? I'm warmer just knowing that you're in charge.
Katie: You want to get even warmer, Henry? Go to hell. Ha-ha! Fire!

  • 06-05-01... Marooned on 'Simon's Island'

  • Katie and Simon's Room, Craig's Suite

[ Simon is sitting on the bed strumming his guitar. He remembers the last time he saw Katie ]
Katie: Don't worry about me, okay, Simon?
    Simon: Okay.
Katie: I'll be back in a couple of days with the biggest surprise you could ever imagine. And when you see it, you're never gonna make fun of me again.
Simon: Well, you know, just make sure it's got, uh, "first class" and "one way ticket to Australia" printed on it.
    Katie: Ah, ah, ah --
    Simon: That would be great.
Katie: No fair guessing, honey. Come on, Henry. Let's go.
Henry: I had some martini mix in somewhere.
    Katie: Toodles!
Simon: Where are you, Katie? And what are you cooking up this time?

    The Island

[ Katie is dreaming about Simon finding her ]
    Katie: Simon, you're here.
Simon: I had to come, as soon as I read your note.
    Katie: I -- I wasn't sure you cared.
Simon: Of course I care. I was too blind to see it.
But now, I realize I cannot live without you.
I've come to take you home, Katie, my love.
Henry: Why, Peretti, I didn't know you cared.
[ Katie wakes, realizes she was kissing Henry, and screams ]

    Craig's Suite

[ Simon enters the room and clears his throat ]
Simon: Craig, Craig -- I need to talk to you.
Craig: Simon, I was wondering what happened to you.
Simon: What happened? What happened? I did exactly what you wanted me to do.
Craig: And I think quite well. Gabriel frank turned up as planned.
Simon: Well, unfortunately, your lawyer didn't do his job quite so well, did he? I thought Cass was supposed to get me off scot-free.
    Craig: He -- he didn't?
Simon: Hell no. Best he could do was get me community service. Remember? I wanted to leave town.
Craig: Well, Simon, I'll compensate you. Don't worry.
Simon: Surprisingly enough, money is the least of my worries right now. Katie took off last week. She went away with some other guy.
Craig: She found someone to put up with her?
Simon: No, no, no. The bloke turned out to be Henry Coleman.
    [ Craig laughs ]
    Craig: That's appropriate.
Simon: She's not interested in Henry, she was just trying to make me jealous.
    Craig: Sounds like it's working.
Simon: I'm not -- I'm not jealous, I'm worried. That's it. Okay? I haven't heard a word from her since she's left, and it's been days. When I was down at the station, Margo seemed pretty concerned, as well. Why aren't you?
Craig: One thing I know about Katie -- Katie always takes care of Katie.
Simon: That clearly runs in the family.
Craig: I have pressing business here. Don't worry about Katie. Wherever she is, she will make the best of it. She always does.

    The Island

Katie: Yuck! Oh, my -- oh! I can't believe you did that!
Henry: Me?! Hey, I was just sitting here taking my beauty rest when your lips came in for a surprise landing without getting clearance from the tower. By the way, Katie, do you have any mouthwash in that trunk, 'cause your breath is --
Katie: Oh, if anyone needs mouthwash, it's you, Mr. Martini breath!
Henry: No one told you to kiss me!
Katie: I wasn't kissing you. I was kissing Simon!
Henry: Wow. Well, I've heard of people losing their minds on a deserted island, but I thought it took more than 48 hours, Katie.
Katie: I meant that I was dreaming about kissing Simon. Oh, it was so wonderful. He found my note and he came to rescue me.
Henry: Well, you just keep dreaming, okay? 'Cause, back here, in reality, the only thing that's looking for you doesn't wanna kiss you. It wants to embed itself in your skin and suck your blood -- hey, where's that bug repellant I gave you?!Katie: I don't remember.
Henry: Great! No pontoons, no bug repellent. I bet you have plenty of lip gloss, though, don't ya?
Katie: Henry, we're never gonna survive this if we keep fighting like this. All right? Let's just divide up the work. You build us a hut or something, okay? And my job is gonna be to look for food.
Henry: Well, I got news for ya, sweetheart. This is the only place on earth that doesn't have a set of golden arches.
Katie: Oh, ha, ha. Don't worry, I'll find some edible wild berries or something.
Henry: Oh, okay. Well, while you're doing that, I hope you don't mind if I eat the only unpoisonous food we have here.
Katie: No, no! Don't you dare! You don't touch that! That is for emergency's only! We can't -- Henry, look. Footprints! Fresh, human footprints. And they're not ours!

Henry: Gadzooks, Katie! You're right! These are footprints!
Katie: There's another human being on this island.
Henry: Oh? Well, maybe he's a scuba-diving carpenter who likes to cook with wild berries. Then all our problems would be solved.
Katie: Oh, no! I know who it is!
Henry: It's Tom Hanks and the volleyball -- "Castaway II."
    Katie: No, it's Simon!
Henry: Okay, I'd keep my bet on Tom Hanks.
Katie: No, no, it is. It's Simon. I left him that note. I just didn't know he'd get here so soon. Simon?!
Henry: Okay, let's indulge this little pathetic fantasy of yours for a minute and let's say that your apathetic, nonhusband did come to find you, Katie. Now, after that excruciating journey, why would he tiptoe up to you while you were asleep and not bother to wake you up? Hmm?
Katie: Well, maybe just wanted to let me sleep.
    Henry: Oh?
Katie: And maybe he's out looking for a nice, warm, cozy place to spend the night for the two of us. Oh, I bet he's getting that cave ready just for us -- this nice, romantic, little getaway.
Henry: I hate to burst your bubble, bubblehead, but, first of all, if Simon did come here, we would've heard the plane land. And second of all, I don't see a pontoon plane anywhere. Do you? And most of all, he wouldn't come out here -- there's not a chance in a million -- because he can't stand you!
Katie: Are you through, Henry? 'Cause I'm definitely through with you. From now on, you're on your own!
Henry: What are you gonna do?
Katie: I'm gonna follow these footprints and find Simon. And then I'm gonna watch you eat crow! Simon?!
Henry: Well, at least I'll be eating something, Katie!
[ They both take off and Cooley walks up ]
Cooley: This place is drawin' a crowd. That's too bad. I hate crowds.

    Craig's Suite

Craig: Katie will be back soon enough to make your life miserable.
Simon: I just thought she'd be back by now, that's all.
Craig: Well, she's not. So if you're worried about it, go look for her.
Simon: Yeah, maybe I'll do just that!
Craig: When you find her, give her my best, will ya?
Simon: Oh, yeah. Yeah, don't worry, I'll let her just how much you care.
Craig: Okay. Cass Winthrop, please. Cass! Craig. How soon can you be in Oakdale? Excellent! Yeah, the missus and I are making some major investments. We could use your help. See ya then.

    The Island

Henry: I was supposed to be the next Les Moonves or Roone Arledge! Instead I'm traipsing around on an island in the middle of the Bermuda triangle with some has-been anchor chick, looking for her Australian auto mechanic husband. How the mighty have fallen!
Katie: If you don't want me to rearrange your jaw, you better start taking things seriously!
Henry: Katie, how am I supposed to take you seriously when you're hopping around like a kangaroo in heat?
Katie: Well, you better find a way to get serious because if those footprints are not Simon's, that means that someone else is on this island and our lives could be in grave danger.
Henry: Oh, don't be such a drama queen! Who would want to hurt us? Okay, am I hallucinating or did a coconut just fly by here?
Katie: I think it was a mango.
Henry: Where are they coming from?
Katie: I don't know. I think from over there.
Henry: Yeah, well, I could've told you that, Katie! We're under an ambush!
    Katie: By who?
Cooley: By me! Now go! Get the hell off this island!

    Outside Lien's Room

Simon: Margo, Margo -- sorry, sorry. You're a difficult person to find.
Margo: You know what? Not now, Simon. I'm right in the middle of a family crisis, okay?
Simon: They told me down at the station that your stepdaughter was ill. I am sorry.
Margo: Yes, Lien is very ill, so whatever it is that you have can wait, right?
Simon: No, I don't think it can. It concerns your sister.
Margo: Katie? Have you heard from Katie?
Simon: No. No, I haven't -- not a word. And I am beginning to get a little worried myself.
Margo: So you still don't know where she is?
Simon: I don't know whether she went on a camping trip or if she just ran off with Henry to get my attention. All I know is that I should have heard from her by now.
Margo: Well, what -- what am I supposed to do? I mean, with Lien in the hospital and my getting to know everything about this new job, it's not like I can run after Katie myself.
Simon: No, I understand that. Can't you just put out one of those APBs?
Margo: I'm sorry. No, I can't. It's too early for that. Besides, a lot of the precinct's resources are tied up in an investigation. There was a shooting at the Snyder's' house last night.
Simon: A shoo -- shooting? What? Was anybody hurt?
    Margo: No. No, thank goodness.
Simon: Well, maybe I should go call Lily.
Margo: Well, no. Maybe you should be more worried about your own wife. Let Holden worry about his wife.

    The Island

Katie: Do you think we lost him?
    Henry: Yeah, for now.
Katie: Do you think he'll come back?
Henry: Yeah. Yeah, when he wants targets for more mango-throwing practice.
Katie: Maybe it's not mangoes next time. Maybe he really wants to hurt us.
    Henry: I don't -- I don't want to think about that, Katie.
Katie: Well, we have to think about it! Or we have to find someplace to hide from him.
Henry: Where's that gonna be? The only cave on the island is flooded. And between the two of us, we can't make a sand castle, much less a lean-to that you've been talking about.
Katie: No, I know, but at least we have our -- no. No, it can't be!
    Henry: What can't be?
Katie: Our trunk -- it's gone! All of our stuff is gone!
    Henry: Oh, are you sure?
Katie: Yes, it was right here. And now, it's gone. Oh, I bet that mango-throwing freak stole it all.
Henry: All right, all right, all right, all right. Lucky for us, I had the foresight to pack a few essentials last night, just in case something like this happened.
Katie: If that is true, then I won't kick you off the island. You get one day's immunity.
Henry: Yeah, well, you wouldn't survive a day on this island without me. And fortunately for you, I know what people need to survive. I know what people -- civilized people can't live without. One survival kit!
Katie: What's in it? What's in it, a cell phone, food, a change of underwear?
Henry: I said "survival kit," Katie. One bottle of Bombay gin, a bottle of vermouth and martini --
    Katie: That's it?!
Henry: Now, don't worry about it, Katie. There's two martini glasses here. Now, all we need to do is find some cracked ice.
Katie: And what about a cracked skull?
    Henry: Ow!
[ Katie grunts angrily ] This calls for a drink.
Katie: Simon, please come rescue me. Please come rescue me.

  • 06-07-01... Katie's Clues

  • The Lakeview Lounge

Simon: No, no, no, that's fine. Thank you very much. Okay, Katie's private papers. Well, this should be a real treat. "Basic Kama Sutra" -- "How to Please Your Man," "Managing Micromoney." Great. "An exciting journey is in your future." Where are you, Katie? Where did you go? [ Hotel Clerk walks up ] Yes?
Hotel Clerk: The phone records you wanted. I marked the calls from your and Mrs. Frasier's room.
    Simon: Excellent, thanks.
Hotel Clerk: Mrs. Frasier back from her trip?
Simon: No, she's not. You wouldn't have any idea where she went, would you?
Hotel Clerk: No, but she and her friend went to the airport in a limousine from town . Weird the way she left in the middle of her brother's wedding.
Simon: Yeah, weird. Well, thanks. When she gets back, I'll have her call you and make a full report. All right, one of these numbers has to lead me to you, Katie. I'll try your cell phone one more time.

    The Island

Henry: Katie, hey, what? Are you crazy?! Come on, use a rock on that or at least another coconut or something!
Katie: I can't, my hands are too small. This phone is a perfect fit.
Henry: Katie, that is our only contact with the outside world!
Katie: Was! Was, Henry! It got wet, the battery is dead. And these coconuts are so hard!
    Henry: Well, who knew?
    Katie: What is that?
    Henry: What's it look like?
Katie: It looks like a stick.
    Henry: It's a spear, Katie.
    Katie: Where's the point?
Henry: Well, I can tell you where it's gonna be if I don't get a little cooperation around here.
Katie: Fine. What do you want me to do?
Henry: I am trying to make a weapon to defend ourselves against our resident screamer. Now, the least you could do is round up some breakfast.
Katie: Fine, why don't we just eat the mangos that he threw at us.
Henry: Fine, maybe they'll be ripe in a couple of weeks.
Katie: I think you are worried about nothing. I think all he wanted was our food and our supplies. I'm sure he's just as hungry as we are.
Henry: Why doesn't that make me feel any better?
Katie: What did you expect? A welcome wagon?
Henry: No, no, but you know what we shouldn't expect, Katie? Hmm? We shouldn't expect some obstacle course to race for the survival title, all right? If there was one, our lunatic, starved, castaway neighbor would win it. And you know what else? You know what else? On this island, when you lose, you don't get a first-class ticket back home. No, no, no, no, no. You get thrown off the island for real, thrown off of those rocks right over there, right into the mouth of a hungry shark. We have precious little left and I intend to defend it.
Katie: It's precious little, all right. What do you intend to protect me with now?
Henry: You? I'm not protecting you. Huh-uh. I'm protecting this [ his martini mix ]. Yes, I'm not giving up a single drop of this, lunatic or no lunatic. You're on your own, Peretti.

    The Lakeview Lounge

Simon: Yes, hello. Excuse me? Avondale hangar? I think I've dialed the wrong -- wait, wait, wait, wait, sorry, wait. Can you tell me, you wouldn't happen to rent planes, would you? You do? -Huh. Well, look, just bear with me. So this probably a long shot, but did Katherine Frasier rent a plane recently? She did? Was someone with her? Her friend, the pilot? Okay, can you please just tell me where they went? Look, they must have filed some kind of a flight plan, or -- listen, listen, I don't care if it's confidential. I'm her husband. Okay, fine. What about a return date? Yes, of course I'm worried. You should be worried, too. It's your plane. Oh, Katie, why would you get in a plane with that idiot Henry at the controls? Why didn't you fly commercial? Who is funding this entire expedition? This could only mean three possibilities. Something illegal or something really, really stupid -- or both.

    The Island

Katie: If we just sit here, nothing is gonna get accomplished. And what did we come here to do? What was our objective?
Henry: Find the lost diamond of Simon Frasier.
Katie: Exactly. We can do it, Henry. Come on, we just hit a little minor setback, but we just got here. We can't give up before we've actually tried, right?
Henry: Well -- me hunt food.
Katie: Yes. You be careful. And watch out for mango man.
Henry: Yeah, why couldn't we get someone fun on the island? You know, Gilligan got Zsa Zsa Gabor, the Harlem Globetrotters. What do we get? Mango Man.
Katie: Simon, where are you? I miss you so much. I wonder if you miss me. [ Katie spies a coconut ] I know. I'll paint your portrait. I know every inch of your face by heart. It worked for Tom Hanks, it can work for me, too

    The Lakeview Lounge

Simon: Safari gear. Large trunk. Rented plane. Pilot Henry. This I don't even want to think about.
[ The Lakeview Front Desk ]
Hotel Clerk: But Mrs. Grimaldi, we've had so many calls asking about the Snyder memorial services.
Lisa: This is all -- this is all too premature. When and if there should happen to be a memorial service, I can assure you Mrs. Snyder will let us know.
    Simon: Lisa --
    Lisa: What?
    Simon: Are you all right?
Lisa: Oh, yeah, I'm doing as fine as can be expected. What is it? What do you want?
Simon: I couldn't help overhear that clerk mention a memorial service.
Lisa: Oh, you haven't heard, I guess.
Simon: No. No, Margo told me there was some gunfire at the Snyder house, but that no one was injured, that Lily was all right. Yes?
Lisa: Oh, yes. Yes. Oh, Lily is fine. Yes, there was a -- there was a terrible accident in Chicago. There was an explosion aboard a boat. This was night before last, and Damian and Holden and that precious little boy, Luke, they were -- no one has said anything about them. I mean, they're afraid to. But we fear them -- they're all dead.
    Simon: Lily.

    The Island

[ Katie is talking to Simon the coconut ]
Katie: Simon, thank heaven you found me. Oh, I missed you so much. I've never missed anyone that much in my entire life. I knew you'd come for me when you found that note. I knew you would. Oh, you're my hero. And I needed one, believe me. Henry has been such a disappointment. As soon as I get that diamond, I'm giving it straight to you. Henry is getting the blunt end of his spear, because I want that diamond to be yours and all yours. Oh, I can't wait to see the look on your face when you're really holding it in your hand. All right, hope you don't mind. I know you don't really have a mustache in real life, but with this lipstick, you really kind of look like a woman. I know you're definitely not that, right, honey? Henry, is that you? Don't kid around. Do you see what I mean? Henry just left me here all by myself, and he didn't even make me one of those stupid spears. Simon, hurry up, please. Please come save me from whoever's out there.

[ We see Cooley spying on Katie from the bushes ]

Cooley: Don't you worry, pretty pretty pretty pretty. You won't be lonely. Cooley's here.

    Snyder Farm

    [ Knock on door ]
    Kim: Hi.
    Simon: Hi. Simon Frasier.
Kim: Yes, I know. I'm Kim Hughes.
Simon: It's very nice to meet you. Is Lily here?
Kim: Well, she was around earlier. And her car is still out there, so I assume she's still here somewhere.
Simon: Would you mind taking a look? I'd really like to see her.
Kim: Well, actually, I have a feeling she took a walk, and why don't I just give her a message.
    Simon: That's fine. That's fine. I'll just -- I'll wait here.
    Kim: No, no, no, I don't --
    Lily: Simon?

    Simon: Lily, I --
    Lily: Just --
[Kim and Lily walk inside and leave Simon on the porch ]
Kim: Honey, you don't have to see anybody that you don't want to.
    Lily: I know.
Kim: [ opens the door to ask Simon to leave ] Listen, I think this is probably a bad time. Why don't you --
    Lily: No, no, it's okay.
Kim: You're sure? [ Kim leaves Simon and Lily alone to talk ]
Lily: I'm sorry, Simon. I don't mean to act like a zombie.
Simon: Please. Don't apologize. You must be going through pure torture.
Lily: It's not knowing. That's the hardest part.
Simon: Look, I hope me being here doesn't make you feel uncomfortable. Look, I know you've got a lot of family and friends around, and you probably don't need anyone else, so just -- I wanted to let you know that if you need anything, anything at all, I'm here to help in any way I can.
    Lily: Just go home.
    Simon: Why?
    Lily: I'm all talked out.
    Simon: You sure about that?
Lily: Just -- I can't believe it. I cannot believe that they're dead.
    Simon: That's perfectly natural.
Lily: I saw it with my own eyes and I can't believe it.
    Simon: What happened, Lily?
Lily: My ex-husband -- damian -- wanted to take Luke to Malta, and when Holden and I refused, he kidnapped him, and he had this yacht that was out on the harbor at Lake Michigan, and when Holden and I got to Chicago, Luke was there with damian, and they were getting onto this launch, and they were leaving, and Holden jumped onto the launch to protect Luke and take care of him, but after that, -- I couldn't see much. It was so dark, and there was a huge explosion, and there were flames everywhere. They're still -- they're still looking for bodies, and they're still hoping.
    Simon: They identified anyone yet?
Lily: They haven't found anyone, no.
Simon: What? What about the wreckage? Have they determined the cause of the explosion?
Lily: There's nothing. Nothing. We know nothing at this point.
Simon: Well, with any luck, I'm sure that you'll have some answers very soon. I should get going.
Lily: No, wait a minute. You're not going anywhere until you tell me what you're thinking.
    Simon: What do you mean?
Lily: I know you. I know that look in your eye when you're putting the pieces of a puzzle together.
Simon: I was just thinking about what you were saying. Lily, I don't want to upset you or give you false hope. This doesn't sound right.
Lily: Tell me what you're thinking.
Simon: You know that I worked on an oil tanker for some time. I even lived through a couple minor explosions. Look, a big yacht like that would need at least ten crew members. That's a lot of people, and for not one them to turn up in the search -- look, I shouldn't have said anything. It's pure speculation --
Lily: No, wait a minute. If they didn't find anybody, they found no bodies -- what are you saying?
    Simon: I don't know.
Lily: Are you saying that you think there's a chance that Holden and Luke could have survived?

  • 06-08-01 ... Simon: Jack of All Trades

  • Snyder Farm

Lily: Why won't you answer me? Because down deep, you have doubts. You do, don't you? Do you really think that Holden and Luke could have survived? Please, I have to know.
Simon: Lily, Lily, I can't say anything for certain.
Lily: I know you. I can see it in your eyes. You have a hundred questions going through your mind right now.
Simon: Lily, I don't know if anyone survived. I shouldn't have even opened my mouth. Look, there are people out searching on the lake now who do that for a living. I'm sure they're on top of the investigation.
Lily: You think it's bizarre that they haven't found any bodies, though, yes?
Simon: All I'm saying is, I think it is odd that there isn't any more evidence. But, look, there could be any number of explanations, okay? I am not an expert on this kind of thing.
Lily: Don't be an expert, just -- just be my friend.
    Simon: I am your friend.
Lily: You just said it. Damian's boat should have ten or more crew members, and no bodies were found? No bodies! That does seem a little odd, doesn't it? What does logic tell you, Simon?
Simon: Okay, okay. You know what? All right, logic tells me that they can't have all disappeared without a trace. Okay, but that is just a hunch, Lily. I can't give you any answers that I don't have.
[ Iva comes down from upstairs and overhears Lily and Simon ]
Lily: I just want it to be a nightmare and a mistake. And Holden and Luke, they're alive somewhere and they're together. And I want to hold my son again. And I can't go through my life without them. I'm just so scared!
Iva: I don't think you have any business here. I think you should leave.

Iva: I am really surprised to see you here.
    Simon: I'm sorry, I --
Iva: Sweetheart, Faith is crying and Mama can't seem to comfort her in any way, so --
Lily: I'll go up. Please don't leave.
    Simon: Sure.
    Lily: Let him stay. Please.
Simon: Iva, I would never do or say anything to hurt Lily.
Iva: You came here to take advantage of her grief. You're here to gain her confidence with some sick theory about you helping her find her husband.
    Simon: Come on.
Iva: You took her away from this family for months! Months. She lost precious time with them, time that she's never gonna get back!
[ Jake and Molly arrive and hear Simon and Iva arguing ]
Iva: Now, stop filling her head with some crazy idea that Holden and Luke are still alive, because they can't be, and she has to accept that!
Simon: Listen, listen. The only mistake I made was falling in love with the wrong woman, okay? And for that, I am sorry. Okay? I would never, ever, give Lily any false hope because I do care about her. I am not -- I am not the enemy. All I am saying is that if the police didn't find any bodies in the wake of that explosion, that doesn't make any sense.
Iva: You know what the police found? The police found a boat in a thousand pieces. Now, just go and stop making things worse for Lily!
[ Iva turns around and sees Jake and Molly ]
Jake: I'm sorry. I guess we should have called first.
Iva: Oh, no, no. No, I'm glad you're here. Because, Jake, you know what? You can escort this person out of the house. Please, do it
Simon: Don't bother. I'm out of here.
Jake: [ introducing himself to Simon ] My name is Jake McKinnon. I'm the Editor --
    Iva: Oh, no, no.
Jake: I don't believe we had a chance to meet --
Iva: Don't bother to introduce yourself, because this man is a liar and he's a con artist, and I want him out of my house now!
Jake: I know your heart is ripped out. I've been there myself, okay? When Vicky's plane went down, my entire world fell apart. But everything the authorities told me about the accident was wrong. Now maybe, just maybe, they're wrong about Luke and Holden, too.

Simon: Lily, did you ever actually see the launch reach Damian's yacht?
    Lily: No.
Simon: So they might not have actually ever been on the yacht when it blew.
Lily: I don't know. I don't know. It just happened so fast. I just wanted to call the police to make sure that Damian didn't take my son away!
Jake: Sometimes what you don't see is just as important as what you do.

Lily: Well, I remember standing on the dock, just staring, numb. And I could see -- I could see Luke's head, and then it just disappeared. I went to the phone and I called 911, and then I just heard this huge explosion. It was intense. It was -- it shook the whole dock. And I turned around and I saw this fireball, just fire everywhere. And I just -- it felt like it was happening to somebody else, like I was just watching it on TV or something.
Jake: Did you see the launch in all that light?
    Lily: No.
Molly: We keep hearing at WOAK that they've recovered pieces of Damian's yacht.
Simon: Yeah, what about the launch?
Jake: No, I checked with my contacts in Chicago. There's no -- no debris from the launch.
Lily: They found Luke's teddy bear, 'cause he had it with him.
Iva: You know, Lily, I really think you're exhausted. I really think you should lie down.
Simon: Yeah, Iva's right. You should get some rest.
    Lily: Thank you for coming.
Simon: Take care of yourself, okay? When your up to it, I really think you should tell the cops what you've told us, about what you saw after the launch left the dock. If you need anything --
    Lily: I'll call.
Jake: Yeah, I think I need to get back to the office myself.
Molly: You know what? I'll think I'm gonna stay and help. I'll meet you at home.
[ Simon and Jake leave ]

    The Snyder Farm Front Yard

Jake: Do you think that Lily is clear on everything that happened that night?
Simon: If Lily says she never took her eyes off that launch, then she never took her eyes off the launch.
Jake: But once the sky lit up, she doesn't remember anything. What's up with that?
Simon: Well, maybe she's not ready to remember. Maybe it wasn't there.
    Jake: Then where was it?
Simon: I don't know. I spent months on that island with Lily. She can survive under circumstances that would defeat most people. She's got great instincts. Even if she was hysterical on that dock, she knew what was going on. I can trust everything that she told us in there.
Jake: Well, I'm glad to hear you say that. 'Cause I got a stepdaughter that's rocked by this thing, and I owe it to her and to her family to find out exactly what happened on that lake that night.

    The Lakeview Lounge

Jake: I made a couple calls from the office. Nobody's releasing any new information.
Simon: I'm just still stuck on the fact that Lily never actually saw Holden and Luke reach the yacht.
Jake: Or get off the launch. I mean, she could be blocking it out, but if they got on that yacht, it's the end of the investigation.
Simon: Well, then we just wait for the divers to find something concrete.
Jake: They should have come up with something by now.
Simon: Exactly. That's my whole point. All right, so where do we start?
Jake: Why don't we start with the guy who orchestrated this whole mess, Grimaldi? I mean, his one mission in life was to save his son, right?
Simon: Right. So he comes halfway around the world and does everything he can to sneak him out of the country.
Jake: But then he gets careless, and he gets his boat wired like an h-bomb.
Simon: He must have had private security, right? A personal crew and enough money to back up any operation without a hitch. So where did it all go wrong?
Jake: Come up with the answer and I believe you've solved our mystery.

Simon: I stopped at the marina. I mean, they have to have records of mooring Grimaldi's yacht.
Jake: Right, and who was coming and going, and probably even a record of the crew.
Simon: Exactly, and how long it was actually there for.
Jake: And what's the deal with that launch? Was it Grimaldi's? Did he rent it, own it, what?
Simon: And what happened to it in the explosion? I mean, did it go up with the yacht? Did it sink to the bottom of the lake, get beamed up to space, what?
Jake: Another question is when these two -- nothing seems to fit. You know what? First, I think we start with Grimaldi's local connections. I mean, the guy was staying here, and if he was planning the great escape, I don't think that he did it alone.
Simon: Jake, I really don't think management appreciates strangers poking around in their guest suites.
Jake: Well, then it's good for us that Lily owns a good piece of this place. Besides, we're not strangers. You live here, remember? All right, so I say we go to Grimaldi's room. We check it out, maybe we'll find something that'll give us a little help.

  • 06-12-01 ... World's Apart -- In Body and Mind

  • The Lakeview Outside Damian's Room

Simon: Excuse me. Mary Ann -- is that right?
    Mary Ann: Mm-hmm.
Simon: Good, good. Simon Frasier, I live in the penthouse.
Mary Ann: I know who you are.
Simon: Good. Well, I was hoping you'd be good enough to do us a favor. We're here to pack up Mr. Grimaldi's personal effects for Lily Snyder. You know, after losing her husband and son in that awful explosion, we wanted to save her the pain of dealing with her ex-husband's belongings. I'm sure you understand.
Mary Ann: The whole staff understands -- how you took advantage of Lily Snyder, and now you're sponging off Mr. Montgomery. I wouldn't ask any favors if I were you.
Simon: Whoa, whoa, you've got me all -- wait.
Jake: My name's Jake McKinnon. I'm the editor of "The City Times," which is owned by Lucinda Walsh, which is Lily's Mother.
Mary Ann: McKinnon? I've read your columns.
Jake: You have? I'm honored. Look, I know you don't usually do things like this, and I wouldn't ask you if it wasn't an emergency, but we are trying to help the family through a very difficult time, and anything you can do to make it easier for us, you'll be making it easier for Lucinda and Lily. So come on, what do you say? Mary Ann, you're an angel.
Mary Ann: No, I'm not. We never had this conversation.
    [ Jake gives her a tip ]
Simon: What did I do wrong?
Jake: I just think you needed the power of the presidents.
Simon: All right, what are we looking for?
Jake: We'll know it when we find it.
Simon: Okay, but you do think Grimaldi's hiding something, is that right?
Jake: I just think it's fishy when a boat that needs a crew that size explodes in the middle of Lake Michigan, and not a single body turns up. Let's take a look around. Maybe we'll find out what Damian was up to.

    The Island

[ Katie is talking to Simon the coconut ]
Katie: I promise -- as soon as you find me and we're together, I will never leave your side again. I how worried you are and how hard you're looking for me, and I am so sorry for putting you through that, Simon. But as soon as Henry finds our scuba gear, I will dive into that ocean and pluck your diamond right off the ocean floor. You'll come save me, and we'll be together again. We'll be so happy for the rest of lives.
Henry: Katie Peretti, island princess? Congratulations! You've finally found the man of your dreams, haven't you? Oh, look at him. He'll always there for you. He'll never talk back. And then, when you get bored with him, you can crack his head open and eat him alive. There you go.
Katie: Where's our trunk and all the scuba gear?
Henry: Well, they're still missing in action.
Katie: What have you been doing all this time, Henry, running around the island thinking of stupid insults?
Henry: Yeah, that about sizes it up.
[ Katie sighs ] oh, what, Katie? You think I'm going to bound off into that overgrown jungle and take down a madman, armed with only my sharp wit and a wooden spear? That is not the tour I signed on for.
Katie: Where do you think you're going?
Henry: I'm going to go check on that plane that you forced me to crash.
Katie: Do I have to do everything around here?
Henry: Yeah, that would be terrific, Katie.
[ Katie sighs as Henry walks off ]
Katie: All right, well, at least he's out of our hair for a little while. Speaking of hair -- what I would not give for some shampoo.
[ Katie starts to undress ] Ah, ah, ah, naughty boy. I saw you peeking.
[ Turns "Simon's" face away ] You're just gonna have to wait for that. You just wait till we get home. We'll put up the "do not disturb" sign, and then you can feast your eyes till your heart's content, all right? For now, you just stay there and watch out for Henry, okay?
    [ Water splashes ] oh!
Cooley: [ to the Coconut ] Hey, hairball, what are you lookin' at?
[ Cooley spots Katie's clothes, picks them up, stomps on Simon the coconut and then takes off ]

Katie: Simon? What happened to you, my sweet Simon? Where are my clothes? Oh, no. No, no, no. This can't be happening.
Henry: Hey, Katie, look what I found!
Katie: Where are my clothes, Henry?! What did you do with them? If you tell me right now, I might not kill you.
[ Henry is staring at Katie's naked body ] Hello? Would you say something?
[ Henry continue to stare wide eyed and open mouthed at Katie ] You never seen a naked woman in your life? Oh, that's a stupid question, of course not. Hello?! Would you close your mouth and at least let me -- help me find something to wear?
Henry: This is the best I can do on such short notice. [ Henry hands Katie the parachute he found ]
Katie: Would you try to be a gentleman for once in your life?!
Henry: Look -- I did find something you can use.
    Katie: What is that?
Henry: Oh, it's the answer to your prayers.
Katie: An old, musty parachute -- what am I supposed to do with that?
Henry: Oh, I don't know. You're a resourceful girl, you'll come up with something. I mean, if -- if Scarlett can make a dress with drapes, I'm sure you can whip up something with a parachute. You know? But -- well -- it looks like somebody already beat you to the haute couture department. Bu I'm sure you can make -- a tube top and a skirt or something out of it. Hmm?
Katie: Who on earth would want to wear something made out of this?
Henry: Oh, I don't know, Katie, maybe someone who doesn't want to spend the rest of their adult life as naked as the day they were born?

    Damian's Room

Jake: I'm clean up here. How about you? Anything?
Simon: Absolutely nothing. Nothing in the closets, nothing in the drawers, nothing under the bed --
Jake: Well, Mary Ann does a heck of a job housekeeping.
Simon: All right. Okay. Riddle me this -- then why didn't the cops seal off the entire room?
Jake: Well, because Damian had already checked out. And the Chicago PD ruled it -- an accident - there is one last-ditch maneuver.
[ Jake goes to the desk and takes a pencil and rubs the lead across the notepad ]
Simon: A-ha-ha. Very nice. Where'd you learn that trick?
    Jake: "Magnum P.I." You?
Simon: "Hawaii Five-O." If Damian wrote anything down -- like a name, a game plan, something --
Simon: So are you getting anything?
Jake: Sure am. Looks like a number -- 414 -- check and see if you can figure out where that is from.
Simon: 414 -- 414 -- wait, wait, wait, wait -- Wisconsin, somewhere in Wisconsin.
Jake: Let's check it out. Hi, there, I'm looking for Jake Alphonse? What do you mean, it's the wrong number? But -- wait -- hold on a second. This is 414-555-5660? No Jake? You're kidding me? Well, thank you very much.
Simon: So? Who was it? Who --
    Jake: Boat rental agency.
    Simon: Boat rental?
Jake: Yeah, I'm trying to figure out -- if you owned the most luxurious yacht on lake, why would you rent another one?

    The Island

Henry: Now, Katie, I don't know much about designing beach attire, but if you ask me --
    Katie: I didn't.
Henry: Yeah, I think you're going about that the wrong way.
Katie: Well, I wouldn't have to go about it any way if you hadn't stolen my clothes. Talk about cheap thrills, Henry.
Henry: Honey, if I wanted to get you out of your clothes -- and don't flatter yourself, 'cause that's the last thing on my mind -- I would've been a lot more subtle.
Katie: All right, if you didn't take my clothes, then, O wise one, tell me, where are they?
Henry: Well, I think the footprint has struck again. He's taken the trunk, he's taken the scuba, he's taken -- yeah, I don't think he's gonna be satisfied until he takes our lives, Katie.
Katie: Where are you going? What about our trunk and our scuba gear?
Henry: You go ahead and find that stuff, okay? I'm gonna go repair the plane.
Katie: You intend to fly out of here before we even look for the diamond?
Henry: Katie, hey, that rock is useless until we can get it back to civilization, all right?
Katie: You are such a waste of time. We both know that you can't fix anything to save your life. You can't even fix a broken nail.
Henry: Oh, look who's talking. You can't even make yourself a decent sarong. And that's only the beginning of the list of things that you can't do, Katie. I guess we're even now.
Henry: Oh, poor Katie. All dressed up with nowhere to go. Ain't it always the way?
Katie: Hey, where to you think you're going with that?
Henry: Well, I'm sorry to break up your summer collection here, but I need this for repairs.
Katie: You're gonna try and fix a piece of machinery with fabric?
Henry: Do you have any better suggestions?
Katie: As a matter of fact, I have a lot of suggestions for you.
Henry: Yeah, well, save them for the tribal council, okay? I have real work to do.
Katie: Henry? Tell me you know what you're doing.
Henry: Yeah, I do. When you hear an engine buzzing above you and you see some shadows gliding across the sand, that will be yours truly, waving good-bye
Katie: Henry, what about the scuba gear, and what about the diamond? Okay, I'm just gonna have to find that gear myself, because if I don't get that diamond out of the ocean before he fixes the plane, he's gonna take off. Simon is gonna find me! I know he will. Oh, poor Simon. He's even worse off than I am. He must be so worried about me by now.

    Damian's Room

Simon: I don't get it. Why didn't you at least ask the boat charter company about Damian before you hung up?
Jake: What are you talking about? What did you expect me to do?
Simon: I don't know -- whether Damian actually rented a boat. When, for how long, how'd he pay, what his plans were --
Jake: You don't ask for records on the phone. It's too easy for them to brush off.
Simon: All right, okay, point taken. But you do think Damian rented a boat, don't you? I mean, why else would he make the call?
Jake: I don't know. I'm just playing devil's advocate. Maybe he had a friend there, or somebody who works there. Okay, it's doubtful, but -- if you wanted to rent another boat, why would you rent in Wisconsin?
Simon: Maybe that was his point all along. Go with -- to keep his -- to keep his plans and his destination secret from the local authorities.
    Jake: Why two boats?
Simon: Because he knew ahead of time that his own boat was gonna blow.
Jake: What are you telling me? That Damian never planned to get on that --Damian never planned to get on that yacht in the first place?

Jake: So he caused that explosion because he wants everyone to think that there are no survivors.
Simon: Yeah. And that way, he can disappear with Luke for as long as he wants to. You see, if they're presumed dead, then they can live in secret, undisturbed for as long as Damian can afford it.
Jake: The longer we go over this, the stranger it gets, you know that?
Simon: If this is a set-up from the start, then we need to contact that company in Wisconsin. We need to speak to whoever's in charge, if they know anything about it.Jake: Find out when it was chartered, how many people, where it was going. I think we're onto something here, Simon.
Simon: And we need to tell Lily what we're thinking.
Jake: No, wait, listen to me. Take it from somebody who went through pretty much the same situation. The last thing we need to do is build false hopes.
Simon: All right, okay, fine, I understand that. But if there's any -- the faintest chance that they're alive --
Jake: We need more proof, and if you're trying to earn some brownie points with Lily --
Simon: Oh, come on. I am only trying to help you. That's it. I have no secret agendas, no hidden motives. Trust me.
Jake: Well, I think you'd better get used to people trying to figure out what you're up to.
Simon: All right. Here's what I'm up to -- exactly the same thing you are.
Jake: Well, I want to get more proof that Damian caused that explosion, then we'll see.
Simon: Good. Find. Let's get some proof.

  • 06-13-01... McKinnion P.I. and Aussie Five-O

  • The Lakeview Lounge

    Jake: Simon, hi.
Simon: Didn't know there was gonna be three of us. Molly?
    Molly: Simon's who you're meeting?
    Jake: Mm-hm yup.
Molly: Okie dokie. Do I get an explanation, or are you two gonna stand -- stand here like a couple of mummies?
Jake: Simon and I have decided to ask a couple questions about Holden and his -- his death.
    Molly: Questions?
Simon: Yes, we just think that the circumstances surrounding the explosion seem a little -- confusing.
    Jake: Thank you.
    Molly: Really?
    Simon: Yes.
Molly: I'm confused. I was with Lily when they officially called off the search and rescue. And call me stupid -- when the operation gets changed to search and recovery, that pretty much means it's over in terms of surprises, doesn't it?
Jake: Look, it can't hurt to ask a couple of questions, Molly.
Molly: Like hell it can't! Have you two lost your minds?

Molly: Whoever was after Damian Grimaldi didn't like being asked questions. That is why Holden and Luke are dead, because they got in the way.
Jake: We don't know that. We don't know that anyone was out to get Damian, and even if they were, they're probably long gone by now.
Molly: We don't know that. Jake, I don't want you hurt -- or worse. You, either, Simon. Especially when there's nothing that we can do to help Holden and Luke now.
Simon: We're not so sure that's the case, Molly. That's kind of why we're doing this.
[ Molly pulls Jake aside ]
Molly: Honey, this is not the same as when Vicky died, okay? Lily witnessed the explosion. The police have been all over it. They found shreds of clothing. The Chicago PD even matched blood stains.
Jake: I'm not confusing this with Vicky's accident. But there is one thing's the same, though, and that's where Lily's head is. I mean, when Vicky died, I was so overwhelmed that I couldn't ask the right questions. That's what Simon and I are gonna do -- help Lily, because some of the elements just don't add up.
    Molly: For instance?
Simon: Well, for instance, all right, the -- I talked to the marina where Damian docked his boat. Okay, there's no indication that a single crew member was aboard the yacht, which doesn't make any sense, 'cause it was a huge boat. And if they were planning on leaving immediately, then why didn't they take on any water or supplies?
Molly: If his life was being threatened, maybe he didn't have time?
Jake: He had time enough to call a boat rental place in Wisconsin, but he didn't have enough time to get essentials?
Molly: How do you know who he called or didn't call?
Jake: Simon searched Damian's room and got the number.
    Simon: Yes.
Molly: Wait a minute here. You are doing more than asking questions, my love. You have a theory. Spill it.
Jake: Okay. What if there was no crew and no essentials in that --on that yacht because Damian wasn't gonna get on in the first place? What if he was gonna meet a second yacht?
    Molly: A second yacht?
    Jake: Yes.
Molly: From this Wisconsin boat rental place? How did Damian know his boat was gonna explode and that he would need another yacht?
Jake: Well, maybe he didn't. Maybe he was just doing it to throw people off his trail. Or -- or -- maybe he did know it.
Simon: Because maybe Damian himself rigged the boat to explode
Molly: Why would want to blow up his own boat?
Jake: Because dead men can't be killed.
Molly: Oh, this is valiant, guys. It really is. And I don't want to be the grinch here, but I can't stop thinking about what Iva said, that if Holden were alive, wouldn't he try everything in his power to get through to Lily somehow? He hasn't.
Jake: Like you said, it's a long shot. But if there's any -- any chance that we could be right, and we don't follow it up, I could never live with myself. You wouldn't be able to live with me.
Molly: So what's the next move, then?
Jake: We want to drive up to the boat rental place in Wisconsin and check it.
Molly: But the memorial service, Jake
Jake: I know, I know. I might be late. I need you to cover with Abigail.
Molly: And if this is a dead end?
Jake: We have no choice but to give it up. I think we owe it to Lily and to Abigail and to the whole family.
Molly: I don't feel any less scared about this now than when I walked in here.
Jake: I need to -- thank you.
    Simon: I'll meet you outside.

    Boat Rental Outfit in Wisconsin

    Jake: Hey, you work here?
Doyle: Yeah, but I'm not renting today. I just came in to do inventory.
Jake: Actually, I'm looking for some information. Is it possible that I could speak to the owner?
Doyle: You're looking at him. Owner, part-time clerk, fishing guide, it's all me.
Jake: All right, this guy named Grimaldi, Damian Grimaldi, he had the number of this place, and I'm thinking maybe he was in here a couple days ago and rented a yacht and -- and some crew. Sound familiar?
Doyle: Why are you asking me? Why not just ask the guy himself?
Jake: 'Cause the guy's dead. See, the cops say he died in an explosion, him, another man and a little boy.
Doyle: His name? Oh, Grimaldi? Never heard of him. Besides, look around. It look like I rent out yachts to you?
    [ Laughter ] oh, yeah.
Jake: [ Pulls out some cash ] This jog your memory?
Doyle: I don't need your money.
Simon: Sorry, guys, to interrupt. Mate, there's little sculls tied to the dock. Are they the only boats here for rent?
Doyle: No, I'm not renting anything anymore. Nothing's for rent. I'm not in the business anymore. Me and the wife are moving to Florida tomorrow.
    [ Doyle leaves ]
Jake: There's no way this guy rented a boat to Grimaldi. He couldn't do it, not this big.
Simon: Doesn't look like it, no.
Jake: Well, looks like it's a dead end.
Simon: Yeah, maybe. Wait, wait, wait, maybe not.

Simon: I checked out this guy's entire lot. It's all rowboats, canoes, stuff like that -- stuff that only rents for a few dollars an hour.
Jake: How does a guy who rents out paddle boats make enough money to retire to Florida with his wife?
Simon: Exactly. Exactly, all right. I saw right around the back there's a locked garage, okay? And through a crack in the boards, I saw a very high-powered speedboat, nothing like the other dinghy that he rents.
Jake: Is it big enough to carry three passengers and a driver?
Simon: If it had to, yes. Looks pretty fast, too.
Jake: I see. Maybe it's quiet enough to make a getaway.
Simon: So maybe this guy gets his nice little nest egg by doing a quick, but very lucrative job.
Jake: Taking Damian and Luke away before their boat goes --
    [ exploding sound ]
Simon: That's what I'm thinking, all right? All right, and Holden, which was the passenger that he wasn't counting on.
Jake: Well, if we're going to find out exactly what happened here, you'd better go take a look at that boat in that gay-rage.

  • 06-14-01... Simon Says Clue; Jake Says Lollipop

  • Boat Rental Outfit in Wisconsin

Jake: Grimaldi. Damian Grimaldi. You're right, you're right. I am looking for info on that guy. See, two of the people that were on that boat were very important to me. If there's any chance that they got off it, that he and his young son are still alive --
Doyle: Look, buddy, I don't know how many times you want me to say this and how many ways, I've never heard of the fellow that you're talking about. Now, when I come back here, you best be gone. I don't have time to stand around all day
[ Doyle leaves and Simon comes back to report on the boat ]
Jake: Charming fellow. Did you get a look at that speedboat?
Simon: Yeah, I pick the lock and slipped inside.
Jake: Well, you're a man of many talents. Any -- any -- you find anything that shows that Holden and Luke may have gotten out of the explosion?
Simon: It's a long shot, but I think I have.

Jake: All right, what'd you find?
    Simon: Yes.
    Both: Bingo.
    Jake: Lollipop.
Simon: Lollipop. I know it doesn't look like much.
Jake: No, it doesn't look like much. It looks like something a kid would leave on any boat at any time anywhere.
Simon: It wasn't just left anywhere on the boat. It was stuck to the back of the driver's seat. I'm gonna go way out on a limb here and say I think this is some kind of signal sent by Holden.
Jake: I won't go out on that limb with you.
    Simon: All right?
Jake: It looks like a lollipop! You don't have kids, do you?
Simon: No, I don't, but what's that got to do with anything?
Jake: I have kids. I have toddlers. And the other day, I was gonna tape a ballgame. And I went to put a tape in, only the tape wouldn't go in because there was a cheese sandwich in there. What, you think that's some kind of signal?!
Simon: All right, okay, okay, fine. Maybe it's nothing, all right? But I still think we should tell Lily.
Jake: For what? She'll want to stick us in a rubber room.
Simon: Listen, listen, we know that Damian had this phone number, all right? We also know that the owner of this shack has suddenly come into some very, very major dough. All right, you already agreed that it's very possible and very likely that Damian paid him for the use of his boat to get away from the explosion. Now, this -- this could be Holden's way of sending out a message to his family. Lollipop.
Jake: Okay, look, I know where Lily is, all right? She feels like she's drowning. I'm not gonna be the one to throw her a life preserver and then yank it back. Look, it's late. I gotta get to the memorial service. I promised I would be there with molly and Abigail.
Simon: I'm gonna stick around here, ask a few more questions. Maybe the owners of the other boats know something or saw something.
Jake: Unless you come up with more than a green lollipop, don't bug Lily!

  • 06-15-01... Simon, Where He Doesn't Belong

  • Church in Luther's Corner

Lucinda: [ Lucinda catches sight of Simon lurking around the Church entrance ]
Simon: Well I guess you're wondering why I'm here.
Lucinda: I don't give a rip why you're here, I just want you gone. So just depart on own, or I'll have you forcibly removed.

[ Outside the Church in Luther's Corner ]

Lucinda: That's right. What part of "get out" is it that you don't understand?
Simon: Look, before I go, I just think you should listen to what I have to say. That's it.
Lucinda: You depart, right now, and don't even think of going back into the church to see Lily.
Simon: I'm not here to -- I'm not here to see Lily. I came here to speak to you. That's why I've been keeping my distance, trying to catch your eye.
    Lucinda: Me?
Simon: I need to talk to you.
    Lucinda: Me?
    Simon: Yes!
Lucinda: Look -- don't you even try to think of me as a conduit to get back into my daughter's life!
Simon: Oh, come on. Just wait for one --
Lucinda: At a time like this, when she's lost her husband. She's lost her boy.
Simon: Will you just listen for two minutes?
Lucinda: It is the wrong moment, because I, too, have feelings, and I'm grieving the death of my grandson.
Simon: That's just it, okay? They may not be dead!
Lucinda: What are you talking about?
Simon: Look, from the start, I always felt that there was something not right about the explosion and what happened afterwards. Now, I didn't want to say anything earlier until I had more absolute proof. But now, with all this going on -- Lucinda, I can't bite my tongue any longer, and since I'm not ready to get Lily's hopes up, I needed to speak to someone close to her -- to you -- about what I've found.
Lucinda: Well what is it? What have you found?
Simon: Enough to make me want to keep looking for more. Look, Jake and I have done some investigating into what happened when the yacht blew up, and based on what we've found so far, it is too early to be mourning for Holden and Luke.

Lucinda: Let me just get this straight, you know? You say that you think Holden and my grandson are alive, and Jake thinks so, too?
Simon: Yes. Yes, that's exactly what I'm telling you.
    Lucinda: No.
    Simon: Yes.
Lucinda: No, because I just spoke with Jake. I spoke with Jake only moments ago. He said nothing, nothing to raise my hopes.
Simon: That's because we decided to keep this quiet until we found more information.
Lucinda: Oh, so why have you broken the code of silence?
Simon: For this! All of this. Watching your family mourn, okay? It felt wrong. Even if there's just a shred of hope, I thought you should know about it.
Lucinda: What's the shred? What is it except something that's coming out of your imagination?!
Simon: Common sense. Common sense, for one thing. Listen, Lucinda, between Holden, Luke, Damian and the crew, there should have been at least a dozen people tossed around by that explosion. But not one body was found, okay? Not one!
Lucinda: Well, the Chicago police must have considered all of that.
Simon: Okay, fine. All right, then there's the fact that Damian may have rented a speedboat from a guy in Wisconsin, who refuses to talk about it, but who is now on his way down to Florida for an early retirement with a healthy boat-load of cash. So the questions just keep adding up?
Lucinda: This is the most awful, awful, cruel crock of bull that I have ever heard in my entire life!

Lucinda: Could I believe a word you would say? I know you've been a liar all your life.
Simon: Look, I'm not here to argue with you, all right? I am simply here to tell you that I was onto something that could be big, and I'm willing to follow it wherever it leads.
Lucinda: Why don't you do that? Why don't you follow your --
Simon: Good, I will. I'm willing to do this on my own, okay? But I don't have the proper resources that a search and rescue like this would require.
Lucinda: Oh, money. That's what you want. You just want money!
    Simon: Money for this.
Lucinda: I would take my money, I would tear it up and use it for confetti before I would invest anything with you.
Simon: This is not about the money.
    Lucinda: No.
Simon: Okay, fine. You've made your position very clear, okay? Maybe Lily will react differently to all this news.
Lucinda: You stay from my daughter. Don't you dare go my daughter -- not now and not ever!
Simon: This is just like you, isn't it? Making up Lily's mind for her.
Lucinda: My daughter is sick with grief. If you raise your hopes, and the dashed again, she won't be able to stand it. Do you understand that?
Simon: Yes, I do, and it's not what I want.
Lucinda: Okay, then you just -- you stay away from her, and I'm warning you.
[ Lily steps outside and hears Simon say to Lucinda ]
Simon: I should've known this was pointless. I should've gone directly to Lily in the first place.
Lily: Gone to me about what?

  • 06-18-01... Holding out Hope

  • Church in Luther's Corner

[ Lily has just found Simon and Lucinda talking outside the Church and wants to know what's going on ]
Lily: Simon? What is it that you think I should hear?
Lucinda: Nothing, darling, nothing -- drivel, Mr. Frasier here is determined to be the center of attention -- whatever the occasion.
Lily: Why don't you let Simon speak. You wouldn't come to Holden and Luke's memorial service just to upset me, would you?
    Simon: Never, no, no.
Lily: Well, then there must be some important reason why you're here then. What is it?

Lucinda: All right, darling, I think we should get back inside.
Lily: No, I'm not going anywhere. I want to know why Simon's here.
Simon: I came here be -- Lily, I'm here as your friend, that's all. I just wanted you to know that I'm here for you

    Church Vestibule

Jake: Look, you showed up here for one reason! One reason -- to corral Lily, and spill your theory about Damian staging those deaths!
Simon: Well, I couldn't go through with it, okay? So, you've got nothing to worry about.
Jake: Simon, we agreed that we don't have enough facts, at least not enough to go upsetting the family.
Simon: Damian did have the phone number of that boat rental place. What for, if not to use it? If we had enough cash, we could throw it at him, maybe jog his memory.
Jake: So, what are you going to do? You gonna hit Lily up for some money? We don't even know that Damian called that guy.
Simon: The police could find out. They could get the hotel phone records.
Jake: So we'll call the police -- okay, we'll call the police. I'll tell them the number from a newspaper source. The police will believe me. So, listen, we have to agree, we say nothing to the family.
    Simon: I told Lucinda.
    Jake: Why?!
Simon: Because she has more clout with the cops than I do.
Jake: We are supposed to be working on this thing together. If we need police cooperation, I'll get it. If we need money, I'll supply it. But you don't need to give Lucinda false expectations.
Simon: There's no chance of that anyway, all t? She didn't believe a word I said. Listen, Jake, seeing Lily hurting like this, all right, it's just -- it's tough for me.
Jake: Simon -- look, we better get in there, okay? You can -- you can sit with Molly and me.
Simon: Doesn't -- no, it's fine, all right? You go in. I can hear fine out here. You just go in, all right?
Jake: Simon, we're working on this together.

[Simon has followed Lily outside the Church]
Lily: What are they still doing in there? Why won't they come out?
Simon: Perhaps they're hoping you'll go back in.
Lily: Well, I guess I'll have to go back there eventually, because I forgot my purse and my keys. Making a grand exit -- I'll really have to plan that better next time.
    Simon: Lily --
Lily: You know, I don't want your sympathy. Because I cannot handle sympathy right now. My mother's probably in there making some grand announcement, "please, everyone, be seated. Lily will be back in soon, as soon as she comes to her senses."
Simon: I could drive you home.
Lily: No, I have to go back in there.
    Simon: You just said --
Lily: I know. I don't want to go back. I want to just do this for Emma. I wanted her to have closure. I wanted her to feel finality in all this. I thought I could do it. I thought I could handle it for a little while. I could just accept the fact that they're gone, mourn them. But I cannot accept something that doesn't feel real to me.
    Simon: I know. I know.
Lily: I have to get out of here.
Simon: Where do you want to go?
Lily: I have to find Holden and Luke. But I don't know where to start. I don't know what questions to ask, who to ask. Damian -- I have to track down the people that were after Damian. So Malta -- I have to go to Malta.
Simon: Go to Malta and make yourself a target? Lily, you can't do that. You cannot do that.
Lily: Well, I can't stay here playing the grieving wife and mother! Please, Simon, I'm telling you. I know that my baby is alive. 'Cause I had him inside of me for nine months, that life that I felt, I feel it now. He's out there somewhere. The time that I've spent mourning and grieving him, I've wasted so much time. I could have been signing his death warrant. I have to find Luke and Holden. I have to do something.
    Simon: I already have.
    Lily: What?
Simon: I couldn't just let it go. Especially after Jake told me that things about the accident were bothering him as well.
    Lily: You and Jake?
Simon: Yeah, we've been asking some questions. That's why I was trying to tell Lucinda before.
Lily: What did you find out?
Simon: We got into Damian's Lakeview room. We found something that the cops might have missed.

  • 06-19-01... Lollipop and Premontions! Holden is Alive!

  • Al's Diner

Lily: Okay, you dropped this on me at the church and then you don't say anything about it on the way over here in the car. What's going on?
Simon: Lily, I guess I'm wondering if I should have just kept my mouth shut. I don't want you going and getting on a plane to Malta, convinced that Holden and Luke are still alive when I might be wrong.
Lily: If I get on a plane, Simon, it'll have absolutely nothing to do with you. What I'm feeling inside, the fact that they're out there somewhere, and they're alive -- I had this feeling inside of me long before you said a word. I can't be around my family right now, because they want me to say good-bye to my husband and my son. I can't take my daughter, Faith, back to our house because of what's happened there. I just walked out of my husband's memorial service, because I cannot accept what's going on, so do not worry about influencing me. I'm not asking for hope. I'm not. Please just tell me what you know.
Simon: Okay. It's not much. Damian may have rented a third boat. Jake and I tracked it down and found something stuck to the back of one of the seats.
    Lily: What?
    Simon: You ever seen it?
Lily: A lollipop? Is it supposed to mean something?
Simon: I knew it was a long shot.
Lily: Wait a minute! Wait! Holden had this with him. The day of the explosion, it was in his pocket!

Lily: This is a real lead, Simon.
Simon: Tell me what you're thinking.
Lily: Faith had a lollipop just like this one the day we -- the last day that we were all together. She went to the pediatrician with Holden. She got a lollipop from the doctor. She didn't finish it. Holden put it in his pocket for her. Where did you say you found this? You said something about a third boat?
Simon: Yes. It was in a rented speedboat, stuck to the back of one of the seats, and it struck me as odd. But we shouldn't read into this too much, okay? Lily, it could be just a total coincidence.
Lily: Why would you bring this to me unless you were thinking exactly what I'm thinking? If Holden left this for somebody to find, then he and Luke did not die in that explosion. They're alive. I've never been more sure of anything in my life.

Simon: It's just a lollipop, Lily. It's not a magic wand. Finding this does not mean that they're still alive.
Lily: But it's something. That's Faith's lollipop. I know it is. I saw it. I saw it that day of the explosion. Holden had it. I know it's -- I know it's Faith's. So tell me -- the boat. Something about a boat.
Simon: Jake and I saw a phone number that Damian had written down in the hotel room. It was for a boat rental place owned by some guy named -- Doyle. Doyle, in Kenosha.
    Lily: Wisconsin?
Simon: Just north of the Illinois border.
Lily: Did this Doyle person? Did he know Damian?
Simon: No, no. That's the thing. He says he had never seen him before. Funny thing is though, this guy, this guy now has enough cash to retire to Florida.
    Lily: Damian paid him off.
Simon: Either that or the boat rental business has become very lucrative.
Lily: Well if Damian did rent a speedboat, then Luke and Holden could have ended up on it, and Holden could have put this on the seat -- stuck it to one of the seats.
Simon: Just remember, though, that this boat must get rented out all the time, okay, Lily? To families who have kids, with lollipops.
Lily: Maybe -- maybe there was a family on that boat, but maybe it was my family. Maybe Holden stuck this to one of the seats so that I would know that he and Luke are alive. Oh. Oh, my God, please let me be right. Please let my husband and my son be okay. Please keep looking. Please! There's gotta be more leads.
Lucinda: Lily! "Leads"? Don't listen to him. He's deluding you. Consider the source. Once a con man, always a con man.

Lucinda: Mr. Frasier, are you enjoying this? Exploiting my daughter's grief.
Lily: My heart is broken, not my brain. No one's exploiting anybody.
Lucinda: Listen, Mr. Frasier, I will give you, in cash, whatever you want so that you go away and leave my daughter and stop distressing her.
Simon: This is going to be very hard for you to fathom. But this is not about money. I would never do anything to hurt Lily, but since you're not gonna believe me, all right, fine, I might as well leave. Are you going to be all right? I hope I helped.
Lily: You have. Can we talk again, please?
    Lucinda: No. No.
Lily: Mother! You are so wrong about what Simon is trying to do. I begged him -- I tried to drag the information out of him.

    Outside Al's Diner

Rose: Hey, Outback! Hey! Come on, don't go.
Simon: Why? Why stay? To try and convince the Queen Mother that I was only trying to help her daughter? You know, I don't give a damn what she thinks.
Rose: What about me? You care what I think? Why don't ya give me half a chance?

Rose: Look, I am a part of this family. And I'm worried about everybody -- Lily, Iva, Emma -- the whole clan.
Simon: You want Holden back as badly as Lily. Rose, I know how much you loved the guy.
Rose: Like Liberace loved rings, yeah. But it didn't stop there. I fell for all of them -- all of them, Faith and Luke and Lily, too. There's something about those people. I stayed too long. And I lost myself. But they changed me. Before I knew it, I was so far gone on all of them, I just wanted to settle for just a piece of what they have, you know? Can you understand that?
Simon: Yeah. Yeah, I think I can.
Rose: Yeah, of course you can. That's why you went off to run out and investigate this explosion. Lily didn't ask you to do nothing, and there you a like Sir Lancelot out there, searching everything down. Because you still got it bad for her, don't you?
Simon: That's why I gotta back off. Look, if Lily wants help, if Lily needs help, it's gotta come from the family, not me. So Rose, if you want to know what I found out about Holden and Luke, you've gotta ask Lily. Let her tell you what I told her. Make up your own mind.
Rose: You better believe that I will. And if Holden is out there and Luke, I'll find them myself.

  • 06-20-01... Henry's Sacrifice

  • The Island

Katie: Come find me Simon. Please, come find me. What are you trying to do, make me suffer for loving you too much? Okay, fine. I've suffered. I've suffered enough. Please, just get here any way you can.
Henry: Look, I hate to interrupt yet another intimate moment with the coconut. But do you think that you could put your personal angst on hold and help me with the plane --
Katie: Oh, stop it, Henry. Stop pretending you know the first thing about fixing a plane.
Henry: At least I'm giving it the old college try. What's your contribution, huh? Mental telepathy with your useless husband who didn't care about you when you were right under his nose? That's some good work, Katie.
Katie: Sometimes I really hate you.
Henry: Would you just wake up? The koala king is probably overjoyed that we are gone. Now I hate to kick you out of your fantasy world, but you gotta grow up sometime.
Katie: Thank you, but no, thanks. I don't need your interpretation of my life. In fact, Henry, I don't need you, period.
Henry: Yeah, that's what they all say -- at first. You'll come to your senses.
Katie: I'm not wrong about us, am I? I mean, after everything I've done for you -- is this how it ends?

    Craig's Suite

Simon: Yo, Montgomery. Craig! Tell me he hasn't cut and run on me. Lying, conniving son of a -- he did it. He's actually gone and bailed on me.

    The Island

Henry: Katie, I think it's time you've shed that unrequited love you have for a fruit and make yourself useful around here.
    Katie: He's not a fruit. He's a nut.
Henry: No, no, sweetheart. That's where you're wrong. You are a nut. That is a fruit. I know these things. Hey -- hey, it's gonna be all right. Uncle Henry's gonna make it all right, all right? If we ever get back to Oakdale, we're gonna find you someone new. No more nuts or fruits or stable boys or gigolos --
Katie: I am not giving up on Simon. I am just sick to death of wearing moldy rags and bathing in salt water. And these rats on this island are looking more like a main course than a menace.
Henry: Well, buck up, little cheerleader. You forget that we have our jungle man for company. He's probably lurching about in the palm trees right now. So before he materializes and makes a meal out of us, why don't you sit down and have a little liquid civilization, hmm?
Katie: I'm not gonna feel civilized until I have my all stuff with me, where it belongs.
Henry: Well, you'll think of something insane and impossible. You always do.
Katie: Okay. How does a civilized woman get an uncivilized man do what she wants him to do? I have to give him something that he can't get on this island that he really, really wants.
Henry: Well, let's see. Hot meal -- decent shower -- sparkling conversation with witty repertoire -- TV satellite -- what?
Katie: I don't know how we missed it.
Henry: Missed what? Katie? Hey, hey, hey -- whoa! Rule number one, now -- do not Bogart the booze.
Katie: You are a lifesaver, Henry.
Henry: Katie, Katie, Katie -- just put the bottle down and back away.
Katie: Who would have ever thought that one of your vices would someday be our saving grace?
Henry: Just give me -- okay, okay. Just give me the bottle, all right, and I promise I will not kill you, okay? Look, we're all friends here.
Katie: Exactly. And my new little friend here is gonna get us our trunk back.
    Henry: Katie!

    Katie: Henry! Give it back!
Henry: Forget about it. If you want to take down the abominable sandman, you go ahead. Be my guest. But I am not gonna sacrifice my martinis to some guy who wants to have me for dinner, if you know what I mean.
Katie: Oh, don't you think if he wanted to eat us, he would've at least taken a bite by now?
Henry: Oh, that's a very comforting thought, Katie, thank you.
Katie: Listen, Henry -- we need to get our stuff back to regain our momentum, so by the time Simon gets here --
Henry: He is not coming! Will you give up this fantasy, please?!
Katie: He must have gotten side-tracked. Something must have come up.
Henry: Yeah, or someone, like wife number six.
Katie: He will be here any day now, okay? In the meantime, we need to show our little island neighbor what happens when you mess with Katie frasier.
Henry: Katie, do you understand what you are proposing?
Katie: Uh-huh. Survival of the fittest.
Henry: Listen, listen -- okay, we've survived just fine without that trunk. At least we're alive!
Katie: Listen, okay, Henry? Haven't you dreamt about a clean change of clothes, soap, toothpaste, a razor?
Henry: Yeah, okay. I would like to look a little less disreputable, but, Katie, come on, do we have to sacrifice what's good and right and proper in a civilized society?
Katie: I promise you'll have enough left over for cocktail hour.
Henry: There's gotta be another way!
Katie: Come on, Henry. Please. Please? Come on. All right, we have work to do. Let's go.

    Craig's Suite

Simon: Yes, hello. Hi, how can I help you?
Jack: We're here to execute a search warrant. We're authorized to search the premises in connection with the attempted murder of Barbara Ryan.
Simon: Well, what happened? Is she all right?
Jack: There was an explosion tonight. She was hospitalized -- critical condition.
    Simon: That's awful. I'm sorry.
Jack: Grady, why don't you take the back room. O'Brien, master bedroom.
Simon: Listen -- you think Craig is somehow involved in this? As you can see, he's not here and I don't think he's gonna come back any time soon.
Jack: Yeah, we're working on that. But if you don't mind taking the time, I'd like to ask you a few questions.
Simon: As you can see, I'm kind of -- that wasn't really a request, was it?
Jack: Can you round up your wife? I'd like to ask her some as well.
Simon: That's gonna be a little bit more difficult.
    Jack: Yeah? And why's that?
    Simon: Because Katie isn't here.
    Jack: Where is she?
Simon: Good question. I have no idea.
Grady: Detective Snyder, the back bedroom door is locked.
Simon: Well, officer, that's because that's my bedroom and that has absolutely nothing to do with Craig.
Jack: We need to access all rooms.
Simon: Why? It's not like Katie and I are suspects in this. Can I refuse?
    Jack: It wasn't a request.
Simon: Oh, that's right. Knock yourself out.

    The Island

Cooley: Is that -- oh, no, it couldn't be -- oh, my. Nectar of the gods. Mother's milk. Oh, I haven't wet my whistle since the flood took the stash that I got from that Snyder fellow last summer. Oh my! Look at you. Thar she blows. Oh, that's a sight to make strong men weep. Oh, I knew -- I knew I had a job for you babies. You sit right there and you be good, okay. And I'll be right back. Ahh. Oh, my. Oh, let's see.
    Katie: Now! Get him!
    Henry: Hold still!
Katie: Don't let him get away!
    Henry: You got him?!
    Katie: Yeah, I think so.
Henry: Glory hallelujah! My martini olives!
Katie: What are you doing? You're supposed to be helping me!
Henry: Oh, come on, Katie. You're doing a bang-up job all by yourself.
Katie: I can't just hold him like this forever!
Henry: Don't cut yourself short there, Peretti!
Katie: Henry, would you help me and shut up!
Henry: Hey, this was your plan. Don't tell me you don't have a step two.
Katie: I just really didn't think that far ahead.
Cooley: Well, good thing I did!
    [ Katie shrieks ]
    Katie: Henry!

    Craig's Suite

Grady: Detective Snyder, we found this in the back of the bedroom closet.
Simon: Hey, listen, that's my wife's property. That has absolute -- just leave that alone.
Jack: Do you have any idea what's in here? The warrant applies to everything in the suite. You got the key?
Simon: No, I don't. Katie has the key. And as I've explained, she's not here.
Jack: Right. And since she's nowhere to be found -- you got a knife or something?
Simon: Come on. Is this absolutely unnecessary? Katie took off before Craig and Barbara got married. Whatever's in that box has nothing to do with this investigation.
Jack: You got something to hide?
    Simon: No, I don't.
Jack: What about Katie? Has she got anything to hide?
    Simon: Fine. Enjoy.
Grady: What the hell is this?
    Simon: So what's in there?
Jack: You tell me. Mean anything to you?
Simon: It's obviously just Katie being Katie. That's how we were dressed when we got married. The rest of these dolls are obviously a part of her collection, I guess. I'll look after these.
Grady: I hope you don't mind me asking this and all, but just how old's this wife of yours?
Simon: She's old enough. Old enough to know better, and old enough to get herself into a world of trouble. Where are you, Katie?

    The Island

Katie: I can't exactly argue with you now, Henry, right now! Just do something!
    Henry: Like what?!
Katie: Like I don't know -- anything, you moron! Get this freak off of me! Henry, hurry! Hurry!
    Henry: How about that?!
Katie: It took you long enough! What were you doing? Enjoying the show? I could've died!
Henry: Yeah, well, thanks to me, you didn't.
Katie: Look what you did to poor Simon! Look, you almost ruined him!
Henry: You're welcome, by the way, for saving your life!
Katie: Oh, yeah. Way to run to my rescue, Romeo. Get a clue!
Cooley: Are you two looney tunes? You almost broke my rib, my nose!
Katie: Yeah, and I'll finish the job if you don't -- you better make one move and I'll --
[ Cooley screams ] come on. Come on, you ready to go?
Henry: What have you done?! Are you out of your mind?!
    Katie: Come on, old man.
Henry: That was the last bottle of vermouth!
Katie: That is for putting a dent into my husband. All right, one move and I will scar your face.
Cooley: A sweet little thing like you?
Katie: Come on! You want to take me? Come on!
    Cooley: Is she for real?
Henry: Hey, don't talk to me. Sweet little thing started this fight. Sweet little thing can finish it. Rage on.

    Craig's Suite

    Grady: Mr. Frasier?
Simon: Yes, sir, what is it?
Grady: Have you found your diamond yet?
    Simon: My what?
Grady: There's a letter stuck in a stack of magazines.
    Jack: What is it?
Grady: It's a letter from his wife.
    Simon: From Katie?
Jack: Same date as Barbara and Craig's wedding.
Simon: That's the last time anyone saw her. "Dearest darling Simon -- I've gone to get your diamond." Oh no, she couldn't -- she wouldn't have done anything this stupid!
Jack: Something I can help you with?
Simon: I'm afraid not. Actually, yeah. You can give Margo a message. Tell her I know where Katie is.

    The Island

Katie: All right, okay. Where's the trunk?
    Cooley: What trunk?
Katie: Oh, come on. The olives were in the trunk. You had the olives. Don't leave until you tell us where they are.
    [Cooley laughs]
Henry: Watch it, he's getting away! Go get him, Katie!
Katie: I told you not to leave.
Cooley: Get her off of me! Get her off of me!
Katie: All right, you ready to talk? Or do I rip your nose off?
Cooley: All right! All right, all right! Anything you want!
Henry: Hey, those are her favorite words in the language.
Cooley: What is it with you tourists? I mean, you drop in, you drink up all my hooch and try to poison me, set fire to my house and home -- now I gotta put up with a parachute princess trying to break my nose! What'd I ever do to you?!
Katie: You stole my clothes. You took our trunk with everything in it.
Cooley: Hey, I'm just trying to survive here.
Katie: So are we. So give me back my clothes and take us to our trunk!
Cooley: Okay -- for a price.
    Henry: What price?
Cooley: I'll give you what you want if this lively young lady gives me what I want.

  • 06-21-01 ... Cooley's Proposition

  • Craig's Suite

Simon: She's gone to get the diamond. I mean, this has to be a joke. She -- she can't -- she's the original girl that cried wolf, you know? Just trying to yank my chain.
Jack: How long did you say she's been gone?
    Simon: A few weeks.
Jack: Was her behavior out of the ordinary before she left?
Simon: When isn't it? I mean -- yes. Yes, there was the trunk that she sent to the airport, the safari gear, the aeroplane. I mean, she has to be insane. I mean, she wouldn't even know where to find this place.
    Jack: What place?
Simon: It doesn't have a name, as far as I know. It's an island that is too small for most maps, but large enough for Katie to get into some serious trouble.

    The Island

Cooley: Now, where are you going, missy?
Katie: I don't know. Where are you going?
Cooley: After you. Now, you give me what I want, then I'll give you the trunk and the scuba stuff that you want, and we'll just keep giving till it hurts
    Katie: Henry, do something.
Henry: You can't be suggesting what I think you're suggesting, because that's just disgusting.
Cooley: Hey. I've called this place home for 27 years, except for a brief visit to the Florida department of corrections, and that's a long time to go without a woman.
Katie: That's a long time to go without personal hygiene. When's the last time you thought of taking a long, long shower?
    Cooley: Shower?
[Cooley laughs] well, you'd better get used to life in the wild, little missy. It's just natural. It's just the way the creator intended.
Henry: Yeah, well, the creator also invented inventors who cooked up all sorts of nice potions to make the human condition less gruesome.
Cooley: Oh, back off, lightfoot. I want what only a woman can provide.
Katie: And what could that possibly be? Decorating tips? Nice, home-cooked meal? Good back-waxing?
Cooley: everything that's under that parachute, princess. I want it all.

Katie: You know what? You're actually kind of sweet. You remind me of my great-great --
Cooley: Okay. Knock it off, and let's get down to business.
Katie: I can't. I can't "get down to business" with anyone.
    Henry: Yeah, including her husband.
Katie: I am just very happily, ecstatically married, so even though I'm sure you're a great catch, I just can't, and even if I weren't married, you're just not really my type.
Cooley: Well, you're mine. You're healthy, you're young, and you're the only female in miles. Now, you don't got to be Miss Right. You just got to be Miss Right Now.
Henry: Okay, excuse me for interrupting here, but the sheer vulgarity of this incredibly indecent proposal is -- my mind is actually boggled.
Cooley: What is your problem, sunshine?
Henry: We are negotiating -- we are negotiating the return of a trunk and scuba gear, not a billion-dollar payoff. Now, you are asking her to desecrate her morals, her wedding vows and sacrifice her body to you for a trunk? I mean, come on --n again, I'm sure she's very well worth it. Good luck, Peretti.
Katie: Oh, thanks a lot, Henry.
Cooley: Now, so what's it gonna be? You spend a little time with me, you get back all that junk in that trunk.
Katie: That's it? That's the deal?
    Cooley: Nonnegotiable.
Katie: Well, if that's the way it's got to be -- I'll take it.

    Craig's Suite

Jack: If this island is as dangerous as you say, why would Katie go there?
Simon: Because that's what she does. When she gets an idea into her head, she puts on the blinders, and nothing else matters
Jack: And you've been to this island?
Simon: Yes. It's where Lily and I were stranded last summer.
Jack: Katie went there on purpose?
Simon: Because she's crazy enough to think she can find a diamond at the bottom of the ocean. My sister drowned in those rocky waters for that same diamond. Katie could die out there.
Jack: No, no, you don't know that. Katie's a smart, young woman. She planned ahead, right? You said she brought provisions.
Simon: That's hardly taking precautions. I mean, what if something's already happened to her? I mean, look, I have to find out if she's all right.
Jack: Okay, I wish I could do more for you right now, but there's another case that takes priority over this.
Simon: Okay, fine. Look, I understand that, but I don't even know where to -- where to start to mount a search for her. I could kill Craig for running out on me.
Jack: You still might have that chance. Off the record, Montgomery's still in town. He's probably down at the hospital with Barbara.
    Simon: Okay, thanks.

    The Island

    Cooley: Pucker up.
Henry: Yeah, yeah, be careful what you ask for there. This little princess has been known to attach herself faster than a leech on an open wound.
    Katie: Oh, shut up, Henry.
Cooley: Or I'll shut you up permanently.
Katie: I'm making a huge sacrifice for the man that I love. I just hope that Simon loves me and understands me enough to forgive me. All right. Okay. For Simon. This is for Simon.
Cooley: Okay. Here we go. Why don't you vamoose for a day or two? We'll call you when we're done.
    Katie: Leave, Henry.
Henry: I hope you know what you're doing.
Cooley: Now that I've finally got you all to myself, where do I begin? Yum-yum.

    Outside Barbara's Hospital Room

Simon: Craig, I heard you might be here. Cass.
    Cass: Simon.
    Craig: You heard about Barbara?
Simon: Yes. Yes, I'm very sorry about that. How is she?
Craig: Yeah, well, she's in a coma, and it's too early to tell anything, but -- how did you hear?
Simon: From Jack Snyder, right after he served the search warrant.
Craig: A -- a search warrant to -- to my suite?
Simon: Yes. Yeah, turned the entire place inside out.
Craig: Do you know anything about this?
Cass: Absolutely not. Fortunately, you're innocent, so there's nothing to hide.
Simon: Well, they did find something -- something about Katie.
Craig: About Katie? What did Katie do?
Simon: Well, you know she's been missing. It seems she's tried to make a way to this island where I lost the diamond last year.
Craig: She's looking for a diamond on an island? Isn't that like looking for a needle in a haystack?
Simon: Yes, well, I guess it would be, but it is worth millions.
    [Craig laughs]
    Craig: That's Katie.
Simon: Look, she's been missing for weeks. This is no posh island resort. This is some rock and sand in the middle of the ocean.
Craig: So her cell phone doesn't work. What do you want me to do, Simon?
Simon: I don't know. Maybe act like family, you know, call the National Guard. Somebody's got to help her, Craig.
Craig: Well, right now, that somebody can't be me.

    The Island

Cooley: Mmm. Mmm. What the hell is with you, girl? You're just standing there.
    Katie: What did you expect?
Cooley: Well, I don't know. You got a heartbeat. I figured maybe you'd get a little life or somethin'.
Katie: Sorry. Coping mechanism. I was doing one of my out-of-body things.
    Cooley: Your what?
Katie: When I am being humiliated beyond all recognition, sometimes my consciousness leaves my body, and it comes back when it's over.
Cooley: So you're telling me to just kind of wake you when it's over?
Katie: That's about the size of it.
Cooley: Well, how am I supposed to get any fun out of that?
Katie: We made a deal, all right? Me for the trunk. Here I am. Take me or leave me.
Cooley: Oh. Oh, forget it! I mean, if you're gonna pull this cold fish stuff, forget about the flippers, forget about the wet suit.
    Katie: No, wait. No.
Cooley: You ain't getting that trunk!
Katie: No, no, no, wait. Okay, listen, listen to me, okay? We are both rational adults. I'm sure that we can come up with some mutually agreed upon solution.
    Cooley: Rational, you?
Katie: It's not that I don't find you somewhat attractive. It's just -- this would be a lot easier if we were just more civilized about it.
Cooley: Oh, come on! Are you looking for some -- some smooth pick-up line, a couple of slick moves on the dance floor? You came to the wrong disco!
    Katie: No, it's just --
[Katie groans] all I'm saying is that I'd be a little more willing if you would clean up a little bit, get nice and shiny for me, make an effort, put on some clean clothes.
Cooley: Why? I just have to get out of them again.
Katie: When was the last time you shaved or took a nice, hot, soapy bath, used some moisturizer?
Cooley: Oh, see, now, there's your problem right there. You've been spending too much time with those baby-smooth sweet boys like lightfoot. I'm gonna show you what a man is like.
Katie: After your beauty bath, okay, you can show me whatever you want.
Cooley: Oh, well, hey, now -- it's a funny thing, but all the beauty parlors moved off of this island back in the early '80S.
Katie: Well, the trunk has plenty of clean clothes in it and soap and a razor and aftershave, deodorant. So why don't you go and grab that trunk, bring it back here, and I'll put some things together for you and get you started. How does that sound?
Cooley: You trying to pull a fast one? Now, how can I be sure that you'll keep your end of the bargain?
Katie: You want a down payment?

    Outside Barbara's Hospital Room

Simon: Maybe you didn't understand me, so I'm gonna make this just a little clear. I said your little sister is in danger and needs your help. Nobody has seen her since your wedding.
Craig: So Katie's into a little trouble. It's what she does for breakfast, Simon. But right now, my wife is lying in there in a coma.
Simon: Fine. You're not gonna help your sister? Then I will. Give me the money you owe me, and I'll go find her myself.
Craig: No, no, no. Simon --
Simon: Listen, we had a deal!
Craig: And I have an entire police department breathing down my neck, trying to blame me for the attack on Barbara.
Simon: Yeah, well, maybe I should have a little chat with them, you know, set them straight.
Craig: You try, and you will regret the day we met.
Simon: Well, it's too late for that. I already do.
Craig: After I'm cleared of charges, we'll talk again, all right?
Simon: You really don't care about anyone but yourself, do you?
Craig: I care about my wife in a coma in that bed. Look, Katie will take care of Katie. If you really want to find her, you go get her. Come on.

    The Island

    Katie: How was that?
Cooley: Wow, that was some kind of kiss!
Katie: Well, there's more where that came from after you bring back the trunk.
    Cooley: I'll be right back.
Katie: All right. Hurry up. These sizzling lips are getting cooler by the second. That was the single most repulsive, stomach-churning, humiliating thing I have ever done! I just kissed a walking compost heap for you. Now, do you get it? Do you understand that I would do anything in the world to make you happy?
    Henry: You decent?
Katie: More like disgusted beyond your wildest imagination.
Henry: You two lovebirds finished up awfully quick. What a hermit, huh? He loves you, he leaves you. I never thought you would go so far for so little, but so be it.
Katie: Do you know when to shut up, Henry?!
Henry: I sincerely hope you used protection.
Katie: Oh, don't make me any sicker than I already am.
Henry: You mean you two didn't?
Katie: No. What kind of woman do you think I am?
Henry: Hey, you know the answer to that, Peretti. So listen, how did you convince the hermit to keep his hands off you, huh?
Katie: Well, I told him to go get the trunk so he could clean himself up a bit, and then I'd think about it.
Henry: Well, hey, a world of overpriced aftershave and minty-fresh toothpaste could not get the ick off of that guy.
    Katie: I know.
Henry: So what's the plan for round three?
Katie: Well, when he comes back, I grab the scuba gear, I swim out to reef, and you waylay.
Henry: How am I supposed to "waylay" him?
Cooley: Ready or not, here I come!
Katie: You've got to think of something and fast!

    [Cooley groaning carrying the trunk]
Cooley: There you go, your very own lost treasure.
    Katie: I get first dibs.
Henry: No, no. Hands off anything that's mine. I have been dreaming of this for so long, and --
    Katie: No.
Henry: It's gone. It's all gone.
Katie: You ate it? You ate everything? You filthy, selfish pig! How could you eat all of our food?
Cooley: Well, try living on fish and unripe mangoes with an interlude of prison food. Can you really blame me?
Katie: I could kill you! Where's our scuba gear?
Cooley: Well, I may be a pig, but I ain't a dumb pig. That scuba stuff's in a secret and safe place till I get what was promised.
    Katie: Hand it over now!
Cooley: No, no, no, no, no. You see, I don't get what I want, and you don't get what you want. Now, I know that I promised you that I would get smooth and clean for you, and you promised that you would show me how to start.
Katie: Okay, sure. You wash my back, and I'll slash your throat.
Cooley: Well now, you see that? See that? Sometimes you're as sweet as tupelo honey, and other times, you're like a venus flytrap.
Henry: You picked up on that, too, huh?
Katie: Here. Okay, you go get yourself reacquainted with the wonderful world of hygiene and come back tomorrow.
Cooley: Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. Tomorrow?!
Katie: It'll be worth your while.
Cooley: Well, you better get lots of rest, little girl, because you're gonna need it. [Laughs]
Henry: I love it. I do. I just love it. I love how all of my luxury items, right down to the bare necessities, and not to mention my unmentionables, is fair game where that barnacle is concerned!
    Katie: Necessary sacrifices.
Henry: That moisturizer alone set me back 60 bucks.
Katie: That is nothing compared to what I have to give up, all right? It is bad enough that I have to give up my marriage vows for that disgusting pig, but now, he's gonna be smelling exactly like you.

  • 06-25-01 ... Poisonberry Lip Gloss and the Return of Henrietta

  • Craig's Suite

Simon: [On the phone.] F-r-a-s-i-e-r. Frasier, first name Kathryn. Look, I spoke to you about my wife a couple of weeks ago. She chartered a plane around mid-May. Yeah, I know it's still confidential. Look, just don't hang up, please. Can you at least tell me if the plane has been returned? I was afraid of that. No, no, no. Look, I'm sorry. Thanks for your help. [ hangs up ] Well, it's official, Katie. You are MIA with that goon, Henry Coleman. You could be crash-landed on that island, and I am too broke to even come looking for you.
[Knock at door] Rose, hi. Well, at least it's not the cops again.
Rose: Does that mean I can come in?
Simon: Look, what do you want? I'm sorry. I don't mean to be rude, but I'm kind of pretty busy right now.
Rose: You're too busy to do a favor for Lily?
    Simon: Come in.

    The Island

Henry: Yep, nothing like a ten-mile hike to whet the appetite. We've got a spa diet without the spa. I will trade you a bite of this yummy mango for some of those delicious berries.
    Katie: That mango's totally rotten.
Henry: Fine. We'll mush the rotten mango in with the berries and make a little fruit salad.
    Katie: Not with these berries.
Henry: Come on! You drive me all over this stupid island looking for those stupid berries. The least you could do is share them with me. Did your mommy never teach you to share?
Katie: Oh, please. Would you relax? Fine, if you want some of the berries, have at them. I just wouldn't gorge myself if I were you.
Henry: Gorge myself on half a cup of berries?
Katie: Actually, one or two is all you'll need.
Henry: That's very generous of you. What do you mean all I need?
Katie: To die a slow and agonizing death.
    Henry: What?
Katie: Okay, you might not die, but you'll definitely pass out and wake up with a nasty headache.
Henry: Poisonous berries?! We've been looking all morning for food we can't even eat?
    [Katie sighs]
Katie: [ Katie retrieves some lip gloss from the trunk ] I thought Cooley might have taken it.
Henry: He doesn't strike me as a lip gloss kind of guy.
Katie: Well, he will definitely love it on me. Here. Hold this.
Henry: What? What are you doing? Have you lost your mind?
Katie: No, and I don't intend to lose my virtue, either. See, I am going to put some of this on, kiss that freak, and then, when he starts to get woozy, you will jump out of the bushes and bop him on the head.
    Henry: Poison lip gloss?
Katie: Mm-hmm. A little dab'll do me. What do you think?
Henry: I think a little dab will do you in.
    Katie: I'll be careful.
Henry: First you're talking to a coconut, and now -- now this? Listen, toxic berry lip gloss is not an option, all right? And I am not bopping anybody on the head. I already broke the poor guy's nose. Not that it matters. There's no mirrors on this stupid island. No mirrors, there's no food, there's no gin --
Katie: Well, if you don't have an alternate plan, then I'm going with the knockout lips. We need to get our scuba gear back to get that diamond, and I'm gonna get it back no matter what it takes.

Henry: I don't mean to be cruel, Katie, but maybe you should stay out of the sun. I think you're a little light-headed from lack of protein. At least I hope that's what the problem is, because what you're talking is total nonsense -- dangerous nonsense that could get us both killed.
    Katie: Cooley is basically harmless.
Henry: That's what they said about Charlie Manson.
Katie: Well, we have no choice. It's either use this poisonous lip gloss and knock him out or just give up all hope of ever finding the diamond. I'm not gonna do that. What are you doing?
Henry: We need to have a serious talk.
Katie: We don't have time. He will be back any minute.
Henry: Later for that, all right? We need a reality check here.
Katie: Just admit it, Henry. You're scared.
Henry: Katie, Katie, all right, I know I've been known to complain on occasion, but basically, most of all, I've really enjoyed our little escapades. They've been fun, because life with you is so -- it's so, so, so unpredictable. But it is time to face facts. The chance of you finding that diamond are one in a billion, that is, if you're not cuisinart into shark chum by the coral reef and the current.
Katie: Well, I'm definitely not gonna find it if we don't have the scuba gear.
Henry: And this little Lucrezia Borgia thing with the lip balm, the poison? Come on. If it doesn't stop Cooley, it could make him very, very angry.
    Katie: Yeah.
Henry: Yeah. And another thing, Simon is not coming to rescue you -- not now, not ever, because despite your undying loyalty, he doesn't give a damn whether you're dead or alive.

    Craig's Suite

Rose: So the cops were here, huh? Why am I not surprised? When I heard what happened to Craig's wife, it gave me the heebie-jeebies.
Simon: Yeah, I just saw down Craig at the hospital. He says she's in a pretty bad way.
Rose: The cops find anything interesting?
Simon: Interesting. Yeah, actually, they did -- a farewell note from my wife that was mislaid a few weeks ago.
Rose: Oh, a farewell note from Katie the brat? Where'd she go, the mall?
Simon: No. She and her friend, Henry, have chartered a plane and flew to a remote location.
Rose: Oh, are they smuggling drugs now or having a little hanky-panky? God, you don't look too jealous. What?
Simon: Well, you're not gonna believe this. I don't even believe it myself. Do you know the destination they have gone to? The island -- the island where Lily and I were stranded. I mean, Katie has got this idea that she's gonna find the lost diamond.
    Rose: My diamond?
    Simon: My diamond.
    Rose: My diamond?
    Simon: Whatever, okay? She's gone.
Rose: Wait a minute. Is she crazy? Is she absolutely crazy? That diamond is at the bottom of the sea. What does she think is gonna happen, some mermaid's gonna pop up, have it in her teeth or something?
Simon: I know. It sounds totally ridiculous. I mean, you'd think I would be used to that with Katie by now, but -- but this? I don't even know if she made it there alive or not.
Rose: Well, I picked the wrong day to come over here. I'm sorry, but I had to. I just -- I had to come over here and talk to you.
Simon: Oh, yeah. I'm sorry. Lily? What, is she all right?
Rose: She's better. She's doing a lot better now because of you. You gave her something that nobody else could. You gave her hope.
Simon: Hope? Hope? Oh, good, because hope can be a dangerous thing, Rose. You know, I should know, I mean, 'cause if it doesn't go anywhere, it can be very, very cruel.
Rose: No, what's cruel is giving up. I mean, if Luke and Holden are alive, even the slightest chance, we've got to hold onto that.
Simon: Look, all I found was a kid's lollipop. That is the kind of evidence that the cops either eat or don't take very seriously.
Rose: I know. Tell me about it. Jack Snyder stays very, very skeptical, but he did send it down for DNA testing, so that's good.
Simon: Right. Jack Snyder, that's Holden's cousin, right? Because if he was skeptical, then you can double that for the Chicago PD.
Rose: I know. See, but how can Lily keep believing that Luke and Holden are alive when nobody else does? Every time somebody looks over that puss like, "I'm so sorry, Lily. I'm so sorry." I mean, every little bit of hope just keeps drifting away.
Simon: Look, I just thought I was doing the right thing -- all right, at best, what Jake and I found is a maybe, nothing more. That's it.
Rose: No, it's more than that, or else you never would have said anything. Come on. Can you just investigate it just a little bit?
Simon: If that's why you're here, Rose, then I'm very sorry, because I have my own search and rescue right now. I can't handle another on. Look, Katie has been missing for weeks, and with Henry at the controls of that plane, they could be anywhere, if they're not already dead, and I have zero resources to go looking for her, but I've got to find a way.
Rose: What about Margo and Craig? Can't they help you?
Simon: No. No, they can't, because you know what? They refused outright. They're too busy with Barbara's accident right now, and besides that, they just think it's another one of Katie's hare-brained schemes, which leaves me completely up the creek without a paddle. So I am sorry to turn you down, Rose, but I have to.
Rose: You know, I've never been very close to Katie, obviously, but I hope she's all right, and I'll tell Lily. Cross your fingers. I hope everything turns out fine for her, too. Oh, yeah, and good luck on your little rescue mission. I hope it doesn't turn out as disappointing as Lily's.
Simon: Yeah, thanks. Good-bye, Rose. Thanks.
Rose: Good-bye? Good-bye? Are you kidding me?! You're giving up a chance to help Lily?
Simon: She didn't ask me. You did.
Rose: How could she ask you? How could she ask you anything with the emotional roller coaster she's been going on lately.
    Simon: That's not the reason.
Rose: Oh, fine. It's too dicey for the two of you guys because you've been through so much together. Lily should be coming to you, asking for favors. Plus, you know, you'd probably turn her down just the way you turned me down.
    Simon: Look, Rose --
Rose: No, stop it. Enough already. You know, give up. Stop with the agita and the disappointment and the hurt. You've got to put that aside and work together. That's why I'm gonna offer you something very, very important -- a deal. You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours.

    The Island

Henry: Sweetie, sweetie, sweetie, it's been almost a month. Don't you think Simon would have been here by now? He probably doesn't even know you're gone.
Katie: What about the note I left him?
Henry: Maybe he didn't read it or he balled it up and tossed it in the trash.
Katie: Oh, shut up. I am not listening to you. He'll be here, all right? When he gets here, I will have that diamond waiting for him. I can't wait to put it in his hands and see how his face light up when he holds it.
Henry: Like it does when he looks at Lily?
Katie: I am not listening to you anymore, Henry, until you promise to help me find that scuba gear, all right? La, la, la, la, la, la, la.
Henry: Hey, hey, hey. Listen, listen. The diamond is with Davey Jones now, and I don't think he's giving it up, all right?
Katie: Isn't that the guy from The Monkees?
Henry: Katie, listen, all we can hope for is that some dingo. Frasier is a no-show, and nothing you do is gonna change that. We have much more important things to worry about.
    Katie: Like what?!
Henry: Food, preferably nonpoisonous, and shelter, preferably not underwater -- and public relations. You know, if we leave Cooley alone, maybe he'll leave us alone.
Katie: Yeah, right. Who's wishful thinking now?
Henry: I know you think I'm cynical, but I think --
Katie: Oh, and shallow and selfish and mean.
Henry: All right, maybe I am all of those things, but we go way back, honey, and I truly, truly, truly don't want to see you get hurt.
Katie: I won't be, silly. I am totally at home in the water. I will find the diamond like that.
Henry: I'm so concerned about you. Your eyes are much bigger than your stomach.
Katie: You're sounding like my mother again.
Henry: Well, if she were here, I'm sure that she would tell you to give up this dangerous and foolhardy plan. Hello?!
Katie: You know the problem with you, Henry? You've never been in love.

    Craig's Suite

Simon: Don't you think I would help Lily if I could?
Rose: What do you think I'm doing here? Lily is on such a high right now. Could you imagine her face when the Chicago PD laughs at her because of her pitiful green lollipop? It's gonna kill her, I'm telling you.
Simon: But if the DNA test positively links it to Faith --
Rose: What if it doesn't, huh? What if it doesn't? DNA, it takes like forever to come back, and in the meantime, Lily worries sick. She has every right to do that, because if Luke and Holden are out there, anywhere, every second that goes by is dangerous for them.
Simon: If -- if they're still alive, okay? That's a pretty big if.
Rose: What are you gonna do about it?
Simon: Listen, why should I do anything?
Rose: Because you cared about her. When you care about somebody like that, you're responsible to them, you really are. You owe them, no matter what, no matter if you're not together or not.
Simon: I have a wife now, and like it or not, she needs me. She is my responsibility.
    Rose: That's so convenient.
Simon: Oh, come -- this is so not fair.
Rose: Oh, stop it. Kenosha and the lollipop -- why did you do that to her? Just to see if you can build her up?
Simon: Oh, give me a break!
Rose: You know, finally you're living up to all that bad press you've been getting. You're used to hearing Lucinda talk about how conniving, how ruthless you are. Maybe you're starting to believe it yourself.
Simon: Lucinda is wrong. She is wrong about me, and she is wrong about what happened to Holden and Luke.
    Rose: Well, then prove it.
Simon: I'm not sure if I can. Look, I don't know if they're still alive. All I know is that they were not on that yacht when it exploded.
    Rose: Yeah we're getting somewhere.
Simon: We are getting nowhere. We are nowhere.
Rose: Stop interrupting me. You and Lily and me are the only ones that believe your theory. So you know what? You have to help me get the Chicago PD build, like, a little case for them.
Simon: Oh, right? Is that all I have to do? Is that it?
Rose: I know it's a lot to ask, but if you don't do this, Lily could lose Holden and look forever, for good. You don't want that on your conscience, do you?
Rose: So do we have a deal or what? I help finance your search and rescue mission for Katie, and you help me build a case with the Chicago PD.
Simon: I do not need a cash incentive to help Lily.
Rose: But you need cash to find Katie. Right? You're broke, right?
Simon: Where are you gonna get this money from?
Rose: I happen to have a very strong in with CEO Walsh.
    Simon: Lucinda?
    Rose: That's right.
Simon: Are you completely nuts? She's not gonna give you money for this. She hates both me and Katie.
Rose: I've been doing some work for Worldwide. I've got money. I can do anything I want with it.
Simon: How do I know you're not conning me here, Rose?
Rose: You would know if I was conning you, I think.
Simon: But you know, there are no guarantees. I mean, we could dig and dig and still come up with nothing.
Rose: That's what you're really afraid of, isn't it?
Simon: I don't want to let Lily down.
Rose: Well, me neither. I saw the light in her eyes when you showed her that evidence, and I don't want that light to go out. I mean, what's worse? What's worse, knowing or not knowing?
Simon: I can't answer that question, 'cause that's different for everyone. You know, some people would rather just not know.
Rose: Not Lily. She needs to know. We do, too, don't we?
Simon: All right, fine. Fine, I'll see what I can do.
Rose: I knew you'd help me. I can see why Lily cared about you. Thanks. [ Rose leaves and Simon makes a phone call ]
Simon: Yeah. Hello, is Mr. Doyle there, please? No, no, look, I was just wondering if he had left Kenosha for Florida yet. When? This evening? No, no, no, no, no. No message. Look, thanks for your help. [ hangs up and makes another call ] Hi. Lily, it's me --

    The Island

Henry: Come to think of it, I never have been in love.
    Katie: Never?
Henry: It always got in the way of business.
Katie: Yeah, I know what you mean. You know, until Simon, I didn't know what love was at all.
Henry: What was that big, hot torch you carried for Holden?
Katie: Oh, that was so one-sided, first of all, and second of all, it was like a power thing. Holden wasn't just Holden. He was Holden "The Station Manager" Holden.
    Henry: That is so sad.
Katie: Well, until Halloween. My whole life changed.
    Henry: Halloween?
Katie: Mm-hmm. See, until then, I was exactly like you. I was just wasting my youth chasing after some on-air dreams, trying to steal jobs from Molly Conlans and husbands from Lily Snyders, but then, Simon came along, and there was my prince. He showed up in the back seat, and he put his arms around me, and when our bodies became one --
Henry: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Please spare me the details, all right? I have a vivid enough imagination as it is.
Katie: Well, not until then did I get clarity.
Henry: Well, that's better than getting what they used to call a "social disease," I suppose.
    [Henry laughs]
Katie: Clarity, Henry, about life. I mean, what are we really here for, anyway? What are we dong? What is worth risking everything for? What is worth going to the dark side of the moon for? And don't say a dry martini.
    Henry: Then I give up.
Katie: Love. I'm just doing this for love.
Henry: So that's why we're here. You know something, Katie?
    Katie: What?
Henry: Before, when I said you were sunstroked, I was wrong. You are completely and utterly unhinged. What you're planning to do with the abominable sandman does not fall under the heading of "doing anything for love." The man is dangerous!
Katie: You're just worried about saving your own skin.
Henry: Yeah, right. I want to keep my skin in one piece, and I would hate to see yours covered with muddy paw prints. That is why I'm gonna go find Cooley and tell him the deal's off. I can't let you do this.
Katie: No if you really want to help me, you will stand up and fight instead of just putting me down all the time.
Henry: What are you impugning my manhood?
Katie: Let me let you in on a little secret, Uncle Henry -- everybody impugns your manhood.
Henry: What, and now, so all of a sudden, I'm supposed to prove myself? Right. That's ridiculous. Okay, okay. All right. What do you want me to do? And no more bopping on the head, 'cause contrary to public opinion, I do not think that violence makes a man.
Katie: No. You are absolutely right it doesn't -- and neither do the clothes. You know, what people wear is just -- is just a fantasy, an illusion, a cultural sign.
Henry: What? What? What are you suggesting?
Katie: You wear the poisonous lip gloss, and I'll slam him on the head.
    Henry: Not again.
    Katie: Henry --
    Henry: No way!
    Katie: Henry --
    Henry: Ah!
    Katie: -- Henrietta!

    Henry: How do I look?
Katie: Good. Your pantyhose are sagging.
Henry: Well, how am I supposed to know that without so much as a mirror on this island? Don't look! If you want me to keep doing these things for you, you need to buy these things in queen-size. Oh! I ripped them. To hell with it.
Katie: Okay. Relax. Don't worry. You look fine.
    Henry: You're frowning, my pet.
Katie: Well, you need a little color in your cheeks. Here. Sit down.
    Henry: Ow! Ow!
Katie: It's not easy, is it? Okay.
Henry: Wait! Hey, stop. What, are you crazy? Come on.
Katie: No, I am not crazy. A couple more won't hurt. And don't say things like that. It's not very nice, Henrietta. Okay, now pucker up. Don't be such a baby. These thins aren't gonna kill you. Well, just don't lick your lips or get it in your mouth, all right? Now, go like this hurry, before your boyfriend gets here. Pucker up, now!
Henry: Okay. I'm never gonna pull this off.
Katie: Well, we're not if you keep talking funny like that. I wish we had a wig, and it would have been better if you had shaved.
Henry: Just stick a bag on my face, why don't you?
Katie: Ooh, I have a better idea. [ puts a hat and veil on his head ] Yes, yes, yes. Here we go. Oh, much better.
    Henry: It's 500-degrees in here.
    Cooley: Ka-ka-ka-Katie Katie
Katie: Just sit there. I will be behind that bush. As soon as he starts to get woozy, I'll hit him on the head with a rock.
Henry: How long does it take for the drugs to work?
    Katie: Shh! Not long.
Henry: It's easy for you to say.
Katie: Oh, would you cross your legs, Henrietta? That was disgusting.
Henry: Where did you get this dress? I look like a cheap floozy.
Cooley: That's what I like, baby.
[Henry laughs] Wow. I borrowed your boyfriend's bush drag, and it looks a lot better on me, don't you think? Yeah, well, where is your buddy, light in his loafers, isn't he? Oh, you've got a hot seat for Cooley. Well, look out mama, 'cause here I come.

    Snyder Home

Lily: Thank you for your phone call. You have no idea how much it meant to me.
Simon: I just hope I can help.
Lily: Oh, you already have. Come in, please.
Simon: You know, Lily, this might be a wild goose chase.
Lily: You don't think that it is. I don't think that it is. Rose doesn't think that it is. That's all that matters. Luke and Holden were not on that boat when it exploded. That means that they're alive somewhere.
Simon: I just want to help you find the truth. Okay, and if you're willing to take that chance I think we should go back to Wisconsin to that boat rental place.
Lily: Where you found faith's lollipop, yes.
Simon: We just have to see what else the owner knows. I mean, Jake and I had very little luck getting him to talk.
Lily: You think he's hiding something?
Simon: There's only one way to find out -- go down there, shake him down, get him to spill what he knows.
Lily: When you saw him, he gave you and Jake the silent treatment. What makes you think he'll talk this time?
Simon: Well, of course he probably wouldn't put two words together for me, but if the -- if the grieving widow were to pay him a visit, then maybe he might be more persuaded.
Lily: "The grieving widow." Well, I don't like the way that sounds.
Simon: Look, I only meant that the guy be more forthcoming if the plea came from a woman who had lost her husband and son.
    Lily: Play on his sympathy.
Simon: Maybe it sounds like a cheap shot, Lily, but it's the only one we've got. I hope you don't think I'm being insensitive.
    Lily: No, it's -- it's all right. Saying the words, that they're dead -- I --
Simon: Of course not. Look, I'm sorry. If you'd rather not do this, then I will think of something else.
Lily: No, I think it'll work. No, it'll work, because saying the words, saying that I'm a grieving widow, doesn't mean that I am one.
Simon: Exactly. Those words are just lies until we find out the truth, okay? And we will, I promise.
Lily: I have to get Faith ready to take her to Emma's. I'll just be a minute.
    Simon: Fine. I'll wait here.
Lily: Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
    [Simon sighs]

Simon: Oh, please let me be doing the right thing by helping her.

    The Island

Cooley: Well, now, see, I cleaned up real good, huh? I even gargled just for you.
    [Cooley exhales]
    Henry: Yes.
Cooley: Well, come on now. Aren't ya' gonna tell me I look nice? You don't wanna , huh? Well, that's okay with Cooley. I mean, the last broad on this island was a real looker, but, I mean, she never shut up, and by the time she did, I was out of the mood.
[ Henry giggles ] oh, I never remembered you being so well-endowed. Let me give you a hand. Aw, you're modest? Oh, well, now that's okay with Cooley. I'll slow down. Darling, it looks like you forgot to shave your little legs. Well that's okay, too, you know, 'cause I know I had the razor and all that. I tell you what. How about a little kiss, hmm? No? Just one? Just one little kiss? Oh, now, come on. Come on. Now, let me lift that veil and give you a little sm. Oh, come on, let's have some fun. Come on. Come on. Come on.
    Henry: Oh, no. Cut it.
Cooley: [ pulls off the hat ]What the hell you! You think this is funny?
    Henry: No.
    Cooley: I'm gonna kill you!
[Cooley reaches up to strangle Henry and Henry grabs him and pulls him closer and plants a lip lock on him.]

    Lily: We've already missed him!
Simon: It's all right. He's inside packing up. It's okay. You need to give yourself a second, all right? Calm down, calm down.
    Lily: Okay, okay.
Simon: You don't want to spook this guy. All right, maybe I should just go in and handle it myself.
Lily: No, you've tried to get information from him before when you came here with Jake.
Simon: Look at you, you are a nervous wreck.
Lily: Because this is our last chance. If I don't get some answers from this man, I may never see my husband or my son again.
Simon: Okay, but if this guy's one of the masterminds behind the explosion, what happens to you then? This is a stupid idea, let's go.
Lily: No, I'll be okay. Okay. Just -- you'll be here, outside.
Simon: I'm going to be right here. If you need anything, just yell, okay? Be careful.

    The Island

Cooley: What the hell?! You! You think this is funny.
    Henry: No.
Cooley: I'm gonna kill you for this!
Katie: Hold him down, Henry! Just keep kissin' him until -- that druggy lipstick will work! Just keep kissing him! Keep kissing him! That druggy lipstick will make it work. Please, please, just work.
    [Henry gasping]
Henry: I've never been so disgusted in my entire life!
Katie: I am so proud of you, I would kiss you, but -- well, you know. Just hold on!
    Henry: Ahh!
Katie: Here, here, here! Just wipe off the lips with this! And remember, don't swallow!
Henry: You so owe me, Peretti!
Katie: I know, I know. Now just get that off and let's go on to part two.
    Henry: Peretti!

Henry: Hey, this is the last time that I let you heck me into one of your idiotic schemes. Because of you I have been broke, I have been unemployed and now I have been sexually assaulted by the missing link!
Katie: You can whine later, honey. We've got work to do. Okay, we need to find that scuba gear --
    Henry: No, no, no, enough.
Katie: Shh! You don't want to wake him up!
Henry: Good! I hope. When he comes out of his stupor and starts to tear us apart like the rabid dog that he is, Katie, you will get it through that blonde air bag that sits on your neck that this man is dangerous!
    Katie: Shh!
Henry: Now forget about the scuba gear, forget about the diamond, your little coconut, Simon. We're going to load up all of Cooley's gear that we can carry, we're going to go to the other side of the island and hide out till he wakes up and makes hamburger out of us, all right?! Come on, let's go!
Katie: No. We are not going anywhere, because now we have the upper hand.
Henry: Upper hand?! Katie, us, Bambi, him, Bigfoot!
Katie: But we're conscious, he, not.
Henry: No. No, no, no. No, no, no, no, no. No, no, this is hell! This is purgatory! That's what it is! That's the only reasonable explanation, yeah!
Katie: Okay, I need you to start digging a hole, a very deep hole. Where is it? He would not have taken that.
Henry: Don't tell me you packed a backhoe!
Katie: Ahh, here. Aren't you glad I think ahead?

[Katie and Henry have buried Cooley up to his neck in the sand.]
Cooley: Which one did I kiss?
    Henry: The pretty one.
    Cooley: Ah, God.
Katie: All right, Mr. Cooley. You're not going anywhere until you tell us where our scuba gear is hidden.
Cooley: Ha! You can keep me buried till the tide comes in, I'm tellin' you nothin'. You didn't keep our agreement.
Katie: You wanted me to forsake my marriage vows. It was a shameful proposition. If I had gone through with that, you wouldn't respect me now. So we're going to negotiate my way, all right? This matchbox is filled with fire ants. The kind that eat the flesh. So if you don't want me to dump these on your head, you'll start talkin'.
Cooley: You know what those critters do? Huh. A nice girl like you couldn't stand the sight.
Katie: Maybe not, but I'll just turn my head. Henry, why don't you just get that sea water, just in case. We'll keep it by. I have a feeling that Mr. Cooley here is going to change his mind when these ants start chomping at his scalp. We can probably save him from dying or at least being completely deformed.
    Cooley: You're bluffin'.
Katie: Do you know how much I love my husband?
Henry: Cooley, this is a woman who crashed a plane, who talks to a coconut for hours a day and who made me wear a sarong for purposes that will haunt my nightmares for years to come.
Katie: So, tell us where the scuba gear is, all right?
    Cooley: Do your worst.
Katie: All right. [ Katie slowly empties the contents of the matchbox on Cooley's head ]
Cooley: No! No, no! Get 'em off! Oh -- get 'em off! Oh!
Katie: All right, tell me where the scuba gear is.
Cooley: It's -- it's buried under the mango tree at the top of the hill! Oh, God, they're on my neck!
Katie: All right, you go get that scuba gear before this man is eaten alive!
Cooley: Oh, please get them off!
Katie: Oh, Simon, baby, I'm on the job. Your Katie is gonna bring home your diamond just like she told you she would.
Cooley: Get them off -- please!

    Boat Rental Outfit in Wisconsin

    Lily: He knows something, Simon.
    Doyle: Stay away from me.
Simon: You don't tell us about the fancy speedboat you've got hidden in the garage, huh?
Doyle: Hey, how did you -- get out!
Lily: My husband left a clue for me on that boat! A piece of candy that my daughter gave to him!
Doyle: What are you talking about?
Lily: You know what happened to them! Please tell us.
Doyle: I can't tell you anything I don't know! I'm callin' the cops.
    Simon: Good, good, go ahead.
Doyle: This is private property. You've got no business trespassin' here!
Simon: You just tried to assault this woman with a weapon. I was a witness. I saw it all.
Doyle: Yeah, well, I live in this town. Who do you think the cops are gonna believe, you or me?
Simon: Fine, fine. Go ahead, call your friends. We've got a few of those ourselves.
Lily: That's right, Holden's cousin works for the Oakdale PD. And I'll have them bring the FBI with them.
    Doyle: The FBI? What for?
Lily: To deal with the charges of kidnapping.
Doyle: Kidnapping?! Yeah, go ahead, call the cops! Call the feds! You got nothin' on me!
Lily: If you were involved in this in any way, you will be an accessory to kidnapping.
    Doyle: Kidnapping?
Simon: And if anything happens to Holden and Luke, because you were too stupid to come clean, then you would be an accessory to murder, as well.
Doyle: What are you talk -- murder?! What are you --?! I didn't know I was getting into anything like that! I didn't know!
Lily: Then tell us. What did you think you were getting yourself into. I want you to tell me hat happened to my husband and my son!

Doyle: Look, I didn't know what the speedboat was being used for. I was paid well not to ask.
Lily: But you saw Holden and Luke? Were they okay?
    Doyle: No.
    Lily: What happened to them?!
Doyle: No, I mean, I didn't see them. I didn't even skipper the boat. I never saw the client.
Simon: All right, why don't you just start at the beginning?
Doyle: Well, this guys calls and wanted to rent a speedboat.
Lily: Did he say his name?
Doyle: No names. I was to bring the boat down to Chicago, tie it up to a buoy that was at a certain point along the shoreline, which is what I did. I went back the next morning, picked up the boat, it was tied right exactly where I left it.
Simon: You did all that off an anonymous phone call? No one is that trusting.
Doyle: I was paid $50,000 in advance, and there was another $50,000 in the boat. So I figured, you know, I couldn't lose.
Simon: Come on, for that kind of money, you had to know this wasn't legit. Didn't you suspect anything?
Doyle: Sure I did. I figured they were smuggling drugs or whatever. But at the worst, I figured, they'd confiscate the boat, I'd still have $50,000. It was my one chance to get out of this dump.
Lily: The man that you spoke to -- what did he sound like?
    Doyle: What do you mean?
Simon: Did he have an accent?
    Doyle: I don't know -- we didn't talk long. Maybe -- he could've.
Lily: Did he leave a number?
Doyle: No, it was the other way around. He called here. Now that's it. That's all I know. That's it. I've got packing to do. You two have got to get out of here.
Lily: Well, I guess that's it, then -- Mr. Doyle has told us everything that he knows. Can I ask you one more favor? May I just make a phone call to see if there's any more news.
Doyle: There's a pay phone outside.
Simon: Oh, come on, mate. After everything -- please, just let her use the phone.
Doyle: Sure, go ahead. Knock yourself out.
Simon: Tell me, the morning that you picked the boat up, was there anything left on there?
    Doyle: Like what?
Simon: I don't know. A change of clothes for the kid -- trash -- anything written down that might give us a clue as to where they were headed?
    Doyle: Nothing like that.
Lily: [ Lily pretends to place a phone call, and then puts the phone in her bag ] There's been no news. No news at all. { Lily runs out and Simon runs after her ]
    Simon: Lily? Lily, wait!

    The Island

Katie: No way, you did it! We did it! I'm gonna go get my diamond! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Cooley: Hey -- listen, didn't that Aussie husband of hers tell her what happened to his nutty sister? I mean, she got caught in those killer tides and thud, she went to the bottom like a 100-pound rock. Ain't no way that skinny little thing is gonna survive. You've gotta talk her out of it.
Katie: Hey, pal. I was a member of the all-state swimming team my senior year of high school. I could have gone to the Olympics.
    Henry: Yeah, right.
Katie: I could have, if I wouldn't have greased the board before it was Susie Mitchell's turn to dive.
Cooley: Yeah, well, listen -- let me -- would you do me a favor? Would you ask hot lips here to let me out of this trap just in case you don't make it back.
Katie: Watch me. See you boys later.

Cooley: Tell me what's going on. Can you still see her?
Henry: Yeah, yeah, yeah. She's right out -- that's not it. You know, this doesn't look very -- there she is! There she is.
Cooley: How far out is she?
Henry: She's not very far out at all. I think she's -- yeah, she's coming back in. I k she's given up. Come on, Katie. Come on, Katie!
    Cooley: Come on, girl!
    Henry: Come on!
Cooley: Come on, you can do it! Come on!
    Henry: You can do it!
    Cooley: Come on!
Henry: That's it! That's it. Come here. Come here.
    Cooley: That's great.
Henry: I'm sorry. I'm sorry, baby. Hey, but at least you tried, huh? At least you tried.
Katie: Tried? I'll show you my best try. [ Katie whips out the diamond ] Ta-dah! Simon, baby, you are mine. You are all mine!

[Simon and Lily are trying the numbers on Doyle's phone's caller ID.]
Simon: No, nothing. Just another boatyard.
Lily: That's all the numbers with an Illinois area code.
Simon: Maybe Damian made the calls from Wisconsin.
Lily: Or a cell phone. There's dozens -- dozens of numbers on his caller I.D.
Simon: Here, here. What we should do is we go back further. Go further back to the calls received the afternoon before the explosion in case Damian called to reconfirm his plans.
    Lily: Here's one.
Simon: You recognize the area code?
    Lily: No, I don't.
    Simon: All right, call it.
Lily: Please, God, be something. Nobody's answering.
    Damian: Pronto?
    Simon: What? What is it?
Damian: Pronto? [ Speaking Italian ]
Lily: Oh, my God, it's Damian!

  • The Island

Cooley: In all my born days, that is the biggest, fattest shiniest rock I've ever seen
Katie: That's not a rock, you slob. It's a beautiful, shimmering, faceted precious diamond--Simon's diamond and my entire future.
Henry: That's impossible Katie. You did not just strap on some scuba gear and doggie paddle out to some sandbar in the Atlantic and pick up some diamond out of the ocean. What kind of trick are you playing on us here?
Katie: It's fate, Henry or luck. Call it luck.
Henry: That's not exactly the word I was looking for.
Katie: Well, call it whatever you want, but it's true. Oh, Simon wandered three continents looking for this beautiful diamond and I am the one who found it for him.
Henry: Three continents? There's Australia, the U.S. and--
Katie: Here. Let's not get caught up on geography, alright. All I know is the minute Simon sees this, he is gonna fall so in love with me that he won't care anything about geography. Well, except for maybe mine. He is finally gonna realize I am woman. I am his woman. I am his goddess. I am invincible![Bird squawks]No!No!No,come back here. Come back here, please.
Cooley: What was that she was saying about luck?
Henry: I don't know, but I think it just flew the coop.

Lily: Damian, I know that is you. Please tell me, are Luke and Holden all right? Damian? Damian?
Lily: I got cut off, but I know it was him. It was Damian.
Simon: How can you be so sure it was him?
Lily: Because he was speaking Italian. It was Damian. I know his voice. We have a child together. We were married. I know it.
Simon: Calm down. Hit redial again. See if he'll pick it up.
Lily: No. He's not answering because he knows that it's me. [Lily groans.] I should have pretended to be somebody else. I was in shock.
Simon: Listen, listen, listen. If he only said a few words and it was in Italian, how can you be so sure it was him?
Lily: I know it was Damian. That means that Damian is alive, which means Holden and Luke are alive.

Lily: Yes. Thank you, captain. I will not leave my house until Detective Adamski comes over. Thank you. Thank you so much.
Simon: The Chicago PD's sending someone over? That's great.
Lily: There's already somebody here in Oakdale working on a case. He's gonna come over right away this afternoon.
    Simon: Excellent.
Lily: I wonder if they can trace a location of a cell phone number? Let me just try that number one more time and see if I can get in touch with Damian. I just have to try.
Simon: You're really sure about this, aren't you?
Lily: You have no idea how I've been waiting for some sort of lead. Ever time I think about that explosion from that night, I just kept wondering what happened that night? What really happened, and now the world has opened up to me. I know the truth. Damian wanted us to think he died in that explosion. He wanted me and everybody else to think that Luke died, too, but he did not count on us asking questions or Holden leaving that clue for us to find them. Oh, I'm going to see my husband again and my son. I'm gonna hold them in my arms. Thanks to you. Yes, I would not be so sure that they were alive without you asking questions and giving those feelings that I have inside of me, giving them a voice.
Simon: I just really want you to get your family back.
Lily: You really mean that, don't you?
Simon: Of course I do. Lily, I know what a huge part of you they are.
Lily: Ever since I found out about your past, I just told myself that you never really cared about me, that I was just another mark. Even after you tried to convince me that you really did love me, I still thought I was just another woman that you tried to take advantage of, and I wished I'd never met you.
Simon: You meant so much to me, Lily. From the very beginning, you meant more to me than anyone ever has.
Lily: Fate is so strange. A person can be in your life for months, even years, before you know why they're here, and then, in an instant, it just makes sense. You're here to give me hope. If I hadn't met you, then my hope inside would have died. You know, you are -- you are my gift.
Simon: I don't know about a gift, but that hope is gonna bring you back your family.
Lily: It will. It absolutely will.

    The Island

Katie: It got away. I chased it halfway to the cliffs and back and I was like this the whole time, waiting for it to drop the diamond and it didn't. I lost it. Simon's never gonna love me now.
Henry: Well, look on the bright side. With a rock that size in it's beak, that bird has a very good chance of becoming the sixth Mrs. Frasier. Maybe it'll invite you to the wedding to be the maid of honor.
Cooley: Hey, leave the kid alone, o.k. She had a rough break. Now, can't you see she feels bad enough as it is.
Henry: You are such an opportunist. You are only sucking up to her because you want us to dig you out of that hole.
Katie: Oh, go ahead, Henry. Start digging. Just set Mr. Cooley free. There's no need in keeping him buried anymore.
Henry: Katie, what, are you kidding? He is only being nice to you because he wants to get out of there. Now, once he does, there's nothing to keep him from boiling us in a pot with a bunch of mangoes.
Cooley: Hey, now listen. I can find that bird if it flies back over this island, and I can track it to it's nest too.
Henry: Yeah. That same bird is gonna come back to this same speck of sand with that same five-pound rock in it's beak. No, I don't think so. Face it,Katie that bird is halfway to Myrtle Beach right now, all right? When it gets there, it's gonna use that rock to get 100 acres of beach-front nesting.
Katie: Just set Mr. Cooley free, o.k. Just let him go, let him fly away, let him do whatever he wants. It doesn't matter anymore, okay. It just doesn't matter anymore.

Cooley: Man, you never really appreciate what you've got until it's gone. I didn't pay much attention to these old arms and legs until I couldn't use them.
Henry: Hey, hold up there now. I've got a box of fireants right here in case you get any smart ideas.
Katie: Shut up, Henry. He knows that there aren't fireants in there. Stop threatening him. It's selfish.
    Henry: Selfish?
Katie: Don't you realize that is what got us into this mess in the first place.
Henry: My overwhelming desire to trap someone that doesn't love me by travelling hundreds of miles to take a diamond out of the ocean. That's what got us into this mess, and that was all you, material girl.
. Katie: Yes, I have been selfish in the past, it's true. That's why I urge you, don't make the same mistakes that I have.
Henry: Okay, okay, whoever you are. I want you to release the real Katie at once.
Katie: No, I'm serious. All my life, I have only wanted things for myself. That's all I ever cared about--new clothes, room service, stardom--and I ruthlessly went after those things without even a second thought, but this time, it was so different. I was thinking about Simon. I just wanted to make him happy. I just wanted to see that look on his face when I gave him that diamond, and I was so close. I had it in my hand, and at that very moment, that is when the universe decided to get even with me. Somebody up there really hates me, and I don't blame them. The only person I have to blame for all of this is myself. I've been such an awful, awful person, so all of this is Karma--Karma with a capital "K".
Henry: Katie, come on. Hey, snap out of it, Katie. Come on. Get up. We have work to do.
Katie: Work? No, Henry, I am giving up the rat race.
Henry: This is temporary, right? I mean, tomorrow morning, you're gonna launch revenge against the entire bird population, right?
Katie: Why? Birds are our friends.
    Henry: She's losing it.
Cooley: I'll say. What she needs is protein.
Henry: What, what, what? Is that the point, what?
Cooley: Yeah. Yeah, I've seen what you two eat around here--a mango here and there, a leaf or two. She's half-staved. She's got no nutrients to her brain. Now, she needs animal protein, fish or something like that.
Henry: This is great. We're getting nutrition lessons from a hermit who lives off his stash of vienna sausages and who thinks aqua velva is an aperitif.
Cooley: I was offering to give you some help now there, big shot. I was gonna go get some food while you stayed here and cheered her up, but I think you got the wrong kind of energy to be around this little girlie right now.
Henry: Oh, really? Well, who are you, the survivor island swami.
Cooley: Oh, you be very careful, wise guy.
Henry: All right. Okay, okay, okay, okay. What do you want me to do?
Cooley: I want you to go out and get her some real food or she's not gonna make it.
Henry: Fine. I'll go play Davy Crockett and leave you here with Katie. But Cooley, I'm warning you.
Cooley: You know something? In all the twenty seven very odd years I have spent on this sand dune, I thought I'd seen all there was to see till you showed up. You--you can't give up, little girlie, okay? You got to not give up.

    Snyder Mansion

Adamski: Mrs. Snyder, I know how great a loss you've suffered -- both your husband and your son. It's got to be hell to accept. But you are talking about a lollipop as if it's evidence that they could have survived an explosion that decimated everything in its path. You're making identifications off a few isolated words spoken in a foreign language. And even by your own account, the guy at the boat rental place never saw Mr. Grimaldi or anyone else.
Lily: I know this is a lot of little things, but they add up. I cannot believe you're gonna just dismiss all this information.
Simon: Especially since it's your very department that expects Lily to accept the death her husband and son, when you haven't even produced a body.
Adamski: I'd rather not get graphic here.
Lily: Please, I can take it.
Adamski: In an explosion of that force, bodies are rarely retrieved. There were some damaged personal items, were there not? Blood-stained clothing?
Lily: I am not gonna give up on my husband and my son because they found a teddy bear and some ripped clothes.
Adamski: Yet our department should reopen the investigation because you found a piece of a lollipop?
Simon: Listen, listen, listen. If the -- if a person wanted the world to believe that he were dead, isn't it just very possible that he might leave those bits of clothing out there to create that illusion?
    Adamski: It's possible, but it's so far-fetched --
Lily: That's what Damian wants. Don't you understand? He said that he was threatened. His life and my son's life were threatened.
Simon: You were -- you were aware of that?
Adamski: Actually, I just started checking into Grimaldi's background.
Simon: Good. Well, that's excellent. Then wouldn't it be worthwhile to maybe dust the speedboat for fingerprints, to track down this phone number that Lily was calling today?
Adamski: Of course. I'll do all that. I've already started tracking Grimaldi's movements from the last time he left Malta.
Lily: Good, because he's alive. And so is my husband and my son.
Adamski: Thank you, then, for this information.
Lily: I can expect to hear from you soon?
Adamski: Without a doubt. You may be onto something there, Mrs. Snyder.
Lily: Did you hear that? He said I might be onto something.

    The Island

Katie: I hope everything's okay with Henry. He's been gone for such a long time.
Cooley: Oh, he's fine. He's probably out there trying to talk a fish into jumping onto his hook.
Katie: What if today's the day that Henry's karma decides to catch up with him? There aren't any bears on this island, are there?
Cooley: Well, none with a taste for a guy like him.
Katie: You know what's really sad? Henry is my only friend in the entire world. He's all I have left now. Well, of course I'll always remember Simon. But that's all I have now. Just memories. Mr. Cooley?
    Cooley: Yeah--uh yes? Yes?
Katie: Have you ever been in love?
Cooley: Love? Huh. Well, there was that tag team in Bemidji, Minnesota. Now, boy, those girls were really something. I mean, they could sure hold their liquor, you know? And, oh, for a hot minute there, I had a fantasy about that other girl from the mainland who showed up here, but--love? I don't know, I don't know.
Katie: You know, I didn't even really know what life was about until I fell in love.
Cooley: Oh, now, you're pretty wiped out there. Maybe you ought to lie down, get a little shut-eye until your friend comes back.
Katie: Yeah, I think that's a good idea. I'm kind of tired.
Cooley: Well, I guess maybe I'd better start looking for that bird.
Katie: You won't find it. It was never really a bird, you know? It was a lesson.

    [Katie dreaming.]
[Simon is dressed in an old fashioned pilot's uniform]
    Simon: Kathryn? Kathryn? Katie!
Katie: Simon? I can't believe you're finally here!
Simon: My plane, it went down in the Atlantic. I had to swim for miles. But nothing -- nothing could keep me from getting to you, my love.
Katie: Wow, you're not even damp. You look incredible. Cotton twill?
Simon: Gabardine, my love. It's drip dry. Like my tears. Do you know how desperately I've been searching for you? I've been mad with worry. Why -- why would you run off on me like this?
Katie: I told you in my note -- I wanted to be the one to find your diamond. And I did, too. But then I lost it. A bird swooped down and took it away, along with any other chance that I ever had of winning your love.
Simon: Silly goose, you don't have to win my love. It's always been yours, right there for the taking. I was just too stubborn to realize it. I don't care about any diamond. All I care about is you.
    [Katie wakes up]
Katie: Simon? I'm sorry Mr. Coconut. I never meant to use you. I guess you are just a reminder that some dreams never come true.

Lily: Between the lollipop, the phone call and the fingerprints -- thank you for that -- on the boat, one of these leads has to pan out.
Simon: It's a great start, then, Lily. You're well on your way.
Lily: You sound like you're not going to help me anymore.
Simon: Please, you don't need me anymore.
Lily: What are you talking about? No, this is because of you, because of what you've done for me. You were great with the police department and the guy in Wisconsin. No, we're a team now. We have to work together on this.
Simon: Look, all I did was confirm what you were already thinking. And now you know enough to, you know, forge ahead, be inspired, go ahead on your own. You'll be fine.
Lily: What is it you're not telling me?
Simon: Well, the truth is, I've -- I've kind of got some problems of my own right now.
Lily: I'm sorry. Oh, I've been selfish. I'm so sorry. Here I am talking about Holden and Luke --
Simon: Are you kidding me? That's exactly who you should be thinking about.
Lily: What is it? Just tell me what it is, please.
Simon: It's Katie. She's taken off, and I really think I should go find her. She's been gone for a while. She could be in some trouble.
Lily: Do you know where she is?
Simon: I didn't -- until I found a note that she left me that had been lost a few weeks ago. You're not gonna believe what it said. She was headed for the island.
Lily: The I -- island? Our island?
    Simon: Yes.
    [Door slams.]
    Lily: Thank you, Simon.
    Simon: It was my pleasure.
Rose: Wow. What did you do?
Simon: Everything I possibly could. Now it's time for you to make good on your end of the deal.

Henry: [French Accent] Bon Appetit, ma cherie. Now, I do not know any palate-tingling recipes for what the french call "Lapin," but I am sure the chef will have some inspiration, no?
Katie: That's what you got for dinner?
Henry: With my bare hands. He was so fat and slow, I was actually able to corner him, huh?
    Katie: Oh. Hi bunny.
Henry: Mm. This is gonna taste good.
Katie: Hi, Bun-Bun. Hi Cottontail. I can't eat a bunny.
    Henry:Oh, no.
Katie: Especially not a slow, fat bunny.
Henry: This from the same Katie Peretti who only a year ago was ready to serve up her own mother on toast points if it meant she'd stay alive for one more day.
Katie: Well, this time last year, I wasn't in love with Simon Frasier.
Henry: Fine. Here. Take it. You can name it and sing nursery rhymes to it. I'll go find something else to keep us alive.
Katie: That was awfully sweet of Henry, wasn't it? But I guess he shouldn't bother. Now that I've lost Simon, there's not really much left to be alive for.

    Snyder Mansion

Rose: You sure you want to track Katie down? You know, you could just cash that check, go off to parts unknown. Nobody would ever know. I wouldn't tell anybody.
Simon: The sad thing is, Rose, that if I don't go looking for Katie, I don't think anyone else is going to.
Rose: You know who you remind me of? Bobby Carlucci, back in Hoboken. Oh, he had a heart of gold. He was so cute, and everybody thought he was too good for himself, he'd never help nobody. And one day, Sister Agnes broke all her rosary beads, one by one, rolling down. But nobody else helped but Bobby Carlucci, down on his hands and knees, picked up every single bead. Every one. You're like him. You got a good heart.
Simon: Yeah, well, don't tell anyone, Rose, because people like me and Bobby, we've got a reputation to protect.
Rose: Don't worry, your secret's safe with me.

  • The Lakeview Lobby

Simon: Look, you're sure there's no mail for me? Can you check again?
Clerk: Not today, Mr. Frasier. But then, you never get mail.
Simon: Yeah, gotta love this town.
Rose: Hey -- I thought I should deliver this in person. 10,000 clams. Yeah?
Simon: Yeah, well, this'll be a first.
Rose: No, no, no. I'm no welcher. You pulled through. You promised to help Lily try to find Luciano and Holden. So there you go.
Simon: I guess I've just been burned once too often.
Rose: All the zeros in the right place?
Simon: You're a class act, Rose.
Rose: Yeah, yeah, I would've thought so. Can't say the same about Lucinda. She doesn't think much of me.
Simon: Does she know about this?
Rose: What that I'm bankrolling your escape to the wild blue yonder? I don't think so.
    Simon: Hey, I'm not escaping, I'm --
Rose: No, you're not. No, you're trying to look for Katie -- who got herself trapped on a desert island to get your attention. Very nice.
Simon: Yeah, and believe me, once I find her, she will be on her own.
Rose: I'm just trying to figure something out here. Why are you trying to help Katie when you're worried about Lily?
Simon: I thought we were talking about Lucinda.
Rose: I'll handle Lucinda. She'd probably double that check if she knew what you were up to. She'd do anything to get you out of town, away from her daughter. Which brings me back to her daughter.
Simon: Look, Lily's now got all the proof she needs. The cops can take it from here.
Rose: You don't want to hold her hand while she turns the world upside down?
Simon: Is that why you think I helped her?
Rose: You know, you're a lot smarter than I gave you credit for.
Simon: You're an interesting woman, Rose.
    Rose: I know.
Simon: Lily takes back the man that you love, and here you are, right by her side.
Rose: Just 'cause things didn't work out for Holden and me doesn't mean I don't love him. And Luciano, I mean, I'd do anything for that kid -- live coals. I really want them back. I do.
Simon: Yeah, well, that's real love.
Rose: What do you call giving Lily proof that her husband and her son are alive?
Simon: I don't know. You and me, I guess we're just a couple of saints.
    Rose: Ain't it awful.

    The Lakeview Lobby

Lily: Simon, could you call me as soon as you get this message? The police don't believe me. They're closing the case, and I have no idea what to do. Please call me as so as you get this message. Simon? Rose.
Rose: Hey, Lil. You want me to drive you to the airport?
Simon: No, I'll be fine. No, thank you. Thanks anyway.
    Lily: Where are you going?
Rose: You know Simon. Always another damsel in distress.
Simon: Katie's still not back yet.
Lily: That's right. I forgot about Katie. She's -- are you sure that's she on our -- on the island.
Simon: Well, at least that's where she was headed, and what, with Cooley still out there, I really should go.
Lily: You should get there as soon as possible.
Simon: Was there something you need?
Lily: No. No, I just wanted to let you know that I got in touch with the Chicago PD.
    Rose: All systems go?
Lily: Absolutely. You should go. The traffic at this hour is terrible.
Simon: Well, I hope it all works out for you.
    Lily: Me, too.
Simon: Take care, Rose. [Simon leaves.]
