[Simon is Dreaming]
Katie: Every second with you is pure excitement. Now I finally know what it's like to make love to a real man.
Simon: There's nothing real about him! He's an imposter!
Katie: Is he kidding? What an improvement!
Simon: You don't mean that, Katie! You don't mean that!
Katie: Don't I? I'm the only one who'll ever know the difference.
Simon: But what about me?
"Simon": Sorry, mate. You heard the lady. There's too many of us walking around. There can only be one.
Katie: Bye-bye.
[Simon Wakes Up from his Dream]
Simon: He's lying. Katie would never fall for a fake like him. Henry said it was all a lie. When was the last time Henry told the truth? Don't do this to yourself, okay? You're going to get out of here. You're going to find Joe. You're going to save Joe, and you're going to get yourself home to Katie -- you are going to find Katie. Henry, please, just this once, dont let me down.
Avanya - El Capitan Hotel
Lucinda: Katie. Katie! Are you all right? Oh, she was a sleep.
Simon: Hey! Hey, you're back from the bar, are you? All right, you'll listen to me? All right, look, I have money, I swear. I'll get you money. I'll get you whatever you want. Just please; let me out of here so I can see my wife. Please!
Lucinda: Where's that diamond? The blasted thing has got to be here somewhere! Somewhere!
Katie: Simon? Simon? Are you okay.
Henry: It's in there! The Rose of Sharon diamond is in Katie's stupid little coconut!
"Simon": [Threatening Rose with a knife] All right, I am through playing games with you guys!
Now, you either cooperate, or I carve my initials in your heart!
Katie: Oh, hello.
Katie: Hey! Simon!
Lucinda: I can't do any more. Come on, Henry. You get going. You just find a place, smooze around, where we can hide this damn thing.
Slade: I want this diamond, and I want it now.
Simon: Hey. It is so good to see you.
Henry: Desi! Please, be careful with the trunk. Please.
Katie: How's Simon doing downstairs? Do you think Slade thinks he's Donovan?
Slade: You're sure you can get this diamond from Ms. D'Angelo?
Katie: No. No, if Margo were in trouble, I'm the last person she would call. Believe me.
Paul: What did Simon say when you told him?
Craig: [checking himself out in the mirror] El Craig rides again.
[Knock at door] Katie! Good grief! The natives let you go?
[Tom and Adam leave and Margo is feeling restless. In frustration she throws a pillow across the room and hits Katie as she walks in the door]
Katie: Okay, okay, okay. Here.
Oh, when will the boys be back?
[Katie rushes outside to stop John before he goes inside]
Margo: So you got John Dixon to back down?
Holden: I think I'm gonna get a couple of pieces of cake to take home to Luke and Faith.
Casey: Hey, Kate --
Rose: Oh, Ms. Walsh! What did you hear from Desi? Anything about my pop? Is he all right? What about Simon and Paul?
Adam: Oh, hey. All right, you're awake. How you feelin', huh?
Simon: The dock where Slade's boat is moored is teeming with soldiers.
Katie: You were the best medicine in the world for your Mom.
Simon: All right, so Katie's left. She's gonna be okay. I have to believe that, right? She's gonna get home safe, and then she's gonna send the jet back for us.
Katie: Where's Casey? He was supposed to sit on you if you threatened to move.
Rose: It sounds like the hurricane's getting closer.
Katie: The clerk at the airport said that there are no flights in or out of Avanya.
Slade: That's it. I don't leave now, I'll never beat this storm out of the harbor.
John: Hey, hey, hey, what's going on?
Slade: The diamond and the paperwork, now!
Katie: Her blood pressure's up, so that's a good thing. Right?
Henry: Oh, you might as well use a teacup!
Katie: So you're just going to stand here and tell me that without a liver in what, the next 24 hours, there's no hope for my sister? There's nothing we can do?
Margo: Where's Tom?
Katie: You're saying that it's rare that a donor would die, right?
Henry: I can't believe you
"Simon": You just love being the hero, don't you?!
Henry: I can't see them. No, no, no. If they're not dead already, one of them's coming through this door.
Paul: Simon! Simon! Simon!
Margo: So if we don't find a donor, then I don't have a chance, huh?
Tom: Has anyone mentioned this to Margo?
Paul: Of course it's Simon!
Tom: This is where you have to fight hard, kiddo. There's no giving up. Here anything at all that you need? Okay. John and Bob are looking for some answers, and they're going to find something, but you -- you need to hang in here now.
Simon: You about done there, Henry?
Margo: Don't you get what the doctors are talking about when they say "complex procedure"?
It's a shorthand. It means that someone could die, Katie. You could die.
Katie: So, they're checking to see if I'm compatible. And if I am, we're going through with this operation.
Katie: So we don't tell her. Once she's unconscious, she'll never know.
Margo: Ah. I'd know that hand anywhere.
Jack: Listen, Tom, why don't you take a walk, get some fresh air? I'll hang out with Margo.
Margo: Oh, Katie, why are you still here?
Carly: Hi.
Margo: I told Katie yes. As long as Simon approves.
Jack: They're patching me through. Yeah, I'm holding.
Tom: Hey. A room has opened up on the surgical floor, and you and Katie should have beds very soon.
Katie: [on the phone] Simon? Can you hear me?
Margo: I believe that this transplant is gonna work. I do. And the living will and the "do not resuscitate" order, they're just a precaution, honey, in case something happens to me. Because I don't want you or the boys to have to put your lives on hold while I'm hooked up to tubes and wires and machines.
Katie: [on the phone] I can't wait to see you, Simon.
Holden: Tom.
Katie: Okay, here's what I'm thinking -- hospitals are very gross and depressing, so from now on we are officially at a spa.
[Phone rings]
Craig: How are my two best girls?
[Whispering from behind the desk]
Margo: [Katie is giving Margo a new hairstyle] Ow, ow. Katie, that's hurting.
Simon: [Simon comes in and calls out for Katie] Katie! Katie! [He finds a note from her] "Welcome home, darling. Pop open the bubbly. I'll be home soon. I love you. Katie." Where in the world is she?
Tom: Well, I don't know if I can get used to the new look.
Craig: Women are really the stronger sex. Katie's giving her a piece of her liver. All I can give is a lousy pep talk.
Simon: Katie?
[An orderly is taking Katie to surgery when Simon rushes in]
Simon: Katie -- Katie, stop stop, stop, stop.
Craig: Tom, any news?
John: [Checks on Margo who is still unconscious] I missed so much of your early life. Birthdays and first steps, first words. What are you gonna do? I didn't even know that I was your father until you were a young woman.
That does not diminish my love for you. Or the pride I feel that what you are, what you have become. Your sister has given you a chance at life here. But it's gonna be up to you to make it work. And I know you will. You're gonna pull through. Because, you know, you wouldn't want the rest of the world to have to deal with me if you don't. So you just take your time. I love you very much. [Nurse walks in] Will you watch her carefully? And if there's any change at all, I want you to call me immediately.
Craig: I'm gonna go see if Simon has any further word on your Aunt Katie.
[Monitor beeping]
Simon: You picked a hell of a time to offer me marriage counseling, Craig.
Bob: If you can bring her right in next to Margo, that'll be good. There we go.
Thanks for you help. If you any questions about her meds, you call me. How's Margo?
Lucy: Daddy, could I talk to you for a second?
[Monitor beeping]
Simon: So how long's Katie gonna be in the recovery room for?
[Margo moaning]
Simon: So how can we bribe you to get us into the recovery room?
John: Simon, you know I don't want you in here now.
Tom: John?
Margo: It was like I was watching Katie leave.
John: Craig?
Katie: I was on an adventure.
Katie: Did I nod off?
Lucinda: Good grief!
Katie: I was just having the best dream about when Simon rescued me from that island. For weeks, all I had was this guy to keep my hopes up -- coconut Simon here was my lifeline, which is exactly why I brought him here to avanya.
Rose: Who else would put a coconut in a suitcase?
Katie: He's not just a coconut, rose. It's a symbol that Simon and I will find each other again, like we did the last time.
Rose: You will find your real Simon and you will have him in your arms in a few hours. But you know, the fake Simon is going to come back soon if we don't have the diamond. And my pop's going to die. So get off your things and start looking.
Lucinda: All right. Let's do it.
[Talking over each other]
Katie: Oh, wait. They're back! They're back!
Lucinda: What have you got?
Henry: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We found somebody who knew someone who had a cousin who had a sister-in-law
Paul: We have explosives. They're right here in the bag.
Rose: Well, that's dynamite
All: Shah!
Rose: Dynamite?
Lucinda: Good job!
Katie: So do you think that's enough? Or is that too much to blow the lock off Simons jail cell?
Henry: We can stick around here, we can talk about it all night, or we can go down there and make some noise.
Lucinda: Don't wait on ceremony, get down there and free the prisoner!
Rose: Be careful, please. Come back soon.
Lucinda: Good luck!
Paul: All right, Henry. Lead the way. Hey, Katie, where do you think you're going?
Katie: Oh, you don't think you're not going anywhere without me?
Katie: If you're going to set my husband free, there's no way you're going to do it without me.
Henry: You're just going to get in the way, Katie!
Katie: I can help!
Henry: How?
Katie: I will be a distraction. I will be a lookout. At least Ill just keep him calm -- anything
Paul: Katie, listen to me. I cannot let you come with us. All right? If I put your life in danger and something happens to you, Simon will never forgive me.
Katie: You can't stop me, Paul. Think about it -- if you were being held against your will, do you think Rose would just sit back while somebody else rescued you? No! Even if she had been there just to look in your eyes and let you know how much she loves you, she would do that. You'd be mad at her, and you'd bawl her out for putting her life in danger, but you would expect nothing less, right? Right. That's how it is with Simon and me. Please, you got to let me go.
[Henry chuckles]
Paul: All right, Katie, you're in.
Henry: Why -- Paul, come on
Paul: Henry, Henry, don't argue with me, all right? Just show me where Simon is.
Lucinda: Be swift!
Rose: Just be careful, okay.
Henry: We'll be right back.
Rose: Be careful.
Lucinda: Good luck. Good luck.
Katie: I will be right back. With the real Simon in my hot little hands. See you soon!
Paul: Love you, okay?
Rose: I love you, too.
Paul: All right.
Lucinda: Good luck. Honey, I know it's a motley crew, but I do think that it's going to work. They're going to free Simon. And he's going to find your dad.
Rose: From your mouth to gods ears.
"Simon": Ladies, ladies, and ladies. You've found the diamond, have you? Well, this is brilliant news.
Lucinda: We have?
"Simon": Yeah. Well, what other reason is there for you standing around and chatting when a man's life hangs in the balance?
Rose: You said we had 24 hours! We got time! We still have a little bit of time.
"Simon": Yes, but does your father?
Lucinda: Oh, stop it! You just stop tormenting her. Is that why you've come early? To hurl threats at her?
"Simon": No. No, I'm here to give you some much-needed incentive to turn over the diamond and the provenance before the deadline. Behold. Ah, it's beautiful, isn't it?
Lucinda: What is it?
"Simon": This? In this is an antibiotic. Almost impossible to find on a backward little island like this. Doesn't look like much, but it's just enough to save a sick man from dying. Oh, could I interest either one of you in a dose?
Rose: My pop needs that! He needs that to stay alive!
"Simon": And I need the diamond! So find it!
Lucinda: The search is progressing as expeditiously as possible
"Simon": Oh, expeditiously? Is it -- well, let me expedite matters even further? How about this?
Rose: You sick -- what did you do? What did you do? What did you do to my father? Tell me right now! Tell me right now!
Lucinda: Take it easy. Take it easy. Take it easy.
"Simon": You come at me one more time, and you will meet your pop on the way to the great beyond.
Rose: You know, you better save the great beyond, 'cause you're gonna be there with me, slick!
Lucinda: Don'T. He's trying to get a rise out of you. We don't even know what was in that little vial. It could have been nothing. It could have been just h20.
"Simon": Yes, it could have been water. And then again, it might not have been.
Rose: Was it water? Was it something that could save my pop?
"Simon": It doesn't matter what i poured out. It was merely to illustrate a point -- that I have your father's life in my hands.
Rose: Well, what about him? Is he alive? I mean, does everything you've been saying -- is it all a lie? Tell us!
Rose: What are we supposed to do now? We've already torn this place upside-down looking for that diamond! What if it's long gone?
Lucinda: No! It has to be here. It's here somewhere.
Rose: Why? Because Cooley -- a dead guy -- said so? Oh, give me a break.
Lucinda: Darling, Cooley had said that Katie had the diamond. When Katie asked about the diamond, Cooley said just one word, right? He said, "Simon."
Rose: He was dying. He was delirious -- one last joke on the human race.
Lucinda: No. A mortally wounded man, his final words? I think you shy away from practical jokes at a moment like that. No! That diamond is here. And we're going to find it!
Rose: Well, we'd better find it. And fast.
Simons Jail Cell
Katie: Looking for me?
Simon: Katie?
Katie: It's me. Oh, honey, it's me.
Simon: Is this a dream or something?
Katie: No, it's me! Is it you? Is it really you?
Simon: It's me. It's really me.
Katie: I was so scared. I was so scared I'd never see you again. I just -- I don't ever want to let you go!
Simon: Then don't. Do not let me go.
Katie: I can't believe I'm actually holding you, and I can touch you and kiss you.
Simon: You're supposed to be getting me out of here. You're getting me all worked up.
Katie: First things first, okay? First things first.
Paul: We, uh -- we heard you talking, so we figured it was safe.
Henry: Yeah, yeah we did. But since we're short on time, how 'bout we postpone the sex and get down to work?
Simon: All right, did you bring the explosives?
Simon: All right, good. Did you bring enough to blow this lock apart?
Henry: Are you kidding me? We'll be lucky if we don't blow this place sky-high.
Paul: You know, maybe it's a good time for you to go back to the hotel.
Henry: That's a good idea. That's a good idea. Good luck to all of you. I'll see you soon!
Paul: Okay, well, Ill get to work. You guys, just -- pretend I'm not here, all right? But make it quick.
Katie: There are so many things that I want to tell you. But first of all, I have to tell you something about that awful man.
Simon: My double?
Katie: He never had me fooled. Not even for a minute.
Simon: Never?
Katie: Well, maybe a little bit at the beginning, but I swear, it was just -- I thought it was you with a major personality disorder.
Simon: Yeah, well, quite frankly, he's got a face that I would never get sick of.
Katie: It was so weird. He knew everything about you. And me! Everything about us!
Simon: He said if I didn't tell him everything he wanted to know, he'd make sure I never saw you again.
Katie: Well, he didn't succeed, did he? Let me tell you something, he could know every single detail about our entire lives, but he could never pass for you. There is only one you. One, unbelievably, incredible, sexy, courageous, strong man that makes me the happiest woman in the world. I love you so much.
Paul: All right! All right, looks like we're ready to go. Simon? Simon!
Simon: Yes.
Paul: Get in that corner over there, all right? Get down as low to the ground as you can. Use this cot to protect yourself. Katie, get ready to make a run for it. I'll check outside.
Katie: I love you.
Paul: All right. All right, coast is clear. Katie, let's go. It's now or never. Let's do this.
Katie: I love you so much.
Paul: I hope to hell this works.
Katie: I don't know if I can go through with this!
Simon: Katie, we don't have a choice!
Katie: I don't want to leave you!
Simon: But you have to! You have to get out of here now!
Katie: But what if you get hurt? I don't want to
Simon: I'm begging you, please! Get out of here now!
Katie: No!
Simon: Katie, I will not forgive you if you don't go!
Paul: Katie, the dynamite is about to blow!
Katie: I love you! I love you so much!
Simon: I love you, too. Go!
Avanya - El Capitan Hotel
Rose: All right, we must think! Cooley said he knew where the diamond was. First he said Katie, and then he said Simon.
Lucinda: Katie, Simon -- it's a code. It's a puzzle.
Henry: No, Cooley wasn't exactly the quick-witted type. God rest his soul, but I don't think he left us any clever clues. So I think we have to take whatever he said at face value.
Lucinda: Then let's stick with what we know he said. The diamond is with Simon. The diamond is with Simon.
Rose: It has to be the real Simon, though. Because the phony Simon, if he had it, he wouldn't have us doing all this dirty work.
Henry: Yeah, but the real Simon doesn't have it either?
Lucinda: God forbid that there's a third Simon that we don't know about yet!
[Laughter]
Henry: Third Simon.
08-02-02 ... Locks Held Tight; Fears Let Loose
Simon: Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. Unfortunately, so are these locks.
Paul: Damn it! All right. I'll go get some more explosives.
Simon: Hurry up.
Katie: No, wait. I want to touch you one more time.
Simon: You've gotta hurry, too. Joe's life could depend on it, honey.
Katie, it's gonna be okay. All right. I'm gonna get out of here. We're gonna save Joe. We're gonna take care of that impostor, and we'll be home before you know it.
Katie: I have faith in you, simon. I
Paul: Katie!
Katie: I always have.
Simon: Hey -- I'm crazy about you.
Avanya - El Capitan Hotel
[Rose shrieking]
Rose: Don't! There's something in there.
[Talking over each other] get the knife away from me, I can do it with my fingernails.
[All gasp] I did it!
Lucinda: Oh, my!
Rose: Hey, baby, it's been a long time since I seen you.
Lucinda: That is awesome!
Henry: If I could just hold this for just a second.
Rose: Get your stinking hands away from it! You can look, but you cannot touch.
Henry: You have no idea how often I hear that.
Rose: Ms. Walsh, we did it, we found the diamond.
Lucinda: We have indeed. I've never seen it before. It is awesome! Now whatever are we gonna do now?
Henry: What?
Lucinda: Dear, I'm just thinking -- should we give this diamond to Mr. Curry, that doesn't mean he's actually gonna follow through with his part of the bargain.
Rose: You know, you're right. I give him the diamond, doesn't mean I'm gettin' my pop back.
Henry: Right, right. Here's an idea -- what if we wait for Katie and Paul to get back with the real Simon. That way we have more people on our team.
Lucinda: Wait. That's good thinking, Henry. That's a good idea. Because if they accomplished their mission impossible and they free Simon from jail, he'll be here with us and he can deal with Mr. Curry -- his ringer -- himself.
Rose: All this fuss, you know, over this rock. It was in my headdress at Atlantic City all that time.
Henry: Well, you know, I used to own it too
Rose: You know, do you have a problem with the hearing?
Paul: Rose!
Rose: Paul! Oh, look! No gaping wounds?
Paul: Yes, I'm fine. I'm fine. I'm fine.
Lucinda: Where's Simon?
Paul: Well, we couldn't get him out. I set off the charge, but the explosives weren't strong enough.
Katie: He's going crazy in that jail cell, Lucinda. I didn't want to leave him, but -- oh, my god! Is that what i think it is? Is that my diamond?
Rose: Hey! I don't want to nitpick here, but this is my diamond! Technically.
Katie: Oh, no, no, no, no, honey -- finders keepers, Rose. I found that thing in the ocean --
Henry: And then you lost it to a seagull. The diamond is mine, ladies, because I was the last one to possess it. And as we all know, possession is nine-tenths of the law.
Rose: Excuse me! Next time, I'm gonna eat the finger!
Lucinda: Oh -- okay. Let's focus! Let's all of us people focus. Because Simon is still in jail. Let's not bicker. And Rose's dad is still a hostage.
Rose: Yes. You're right. We gotta get -- gotta find more dynamite.
Paul: Yeah, you think Desi can get his hands on some?
Lucinda: Desi can get his hands on anything if you ask him nicely.
Paul: All right, I'll go find him. And babe -- don't let that diamond out of your sight. All right?
Rose: Hey, Paul!
Paul: I know.
Lucinda: All right, now. All right. Let's come up with a strategy. Because I'm extremely uncomfortable with all of us improvising all the time
[talking over each other]
Rose: Yes, I agree with you 100%.
Lucinda: Good.
Rose: All right. I have a plan -- in two parts. We give Donovan the provenance, but we don't give him the diamond until I get my pop.
Lucinda: Okay. That way we could influence him to make sure that we get your dad.
Katie: Yeah, well, shouldn't we wait until Simon gets out of jail? I mean, the longer he stays in there --
Rose: We're already working against the clock here, okay? We gotta work fast!
Lucinda: All right, fine. Which one of us is going to negotiate with Mr. Curry?
Henry: Good luck with this, guys. Let me know how it goes.
[All yelling]
Rose: Hold on right there, Bucco.
[Rose chuckles] you're on, Henry. And you better not blow it.
Henry: Okay, okay. I don't think that you ladies grasp the full situation here. Mr. Donovan Curry -- a.k.a. The bad Simon -- he does not like me. And I know that it's not an exclusive club, but i don't think I'm the one that should be delivering the conditions.
Lucinda: Henry, you started this mess when you unaltruistically went after the diamond for yourself, and you are the logical choice.
Henry: What if he decides to take another hostage, okay? A healthy one?
Rose: You're pushin' it, Coleman!
Katie: Hey, hey, hey.
Rose: Oh!
Katie: Henry
Henry: Yes?
Katie: Honey, you've done some sleazy things in your life.
Katie: Lied, cheated, hurt people everywhere you go, pretty much.
Henry: Well, it's what I do, Katie. I'm no good at sales.
Katie: Yeah, well, here is your chance to be the good guy, to be a hero, put yourself on the line for the good of other people. Wipe the slate clean, show the world that Henry Coleman is not just a --
Henry: Okay, da da da da! Okay, anything to keep the violins from playing, I will do it.
Katie: Great.
Rose: Do you remember what to do?
Henry: Yes, I remember what to do. I give him the provenance, he gives us your pop, and we give him the diamond.
Lucinda: He remembers, darling. Would you hurry up, please?
Katie: Oh, wait, wait! Hold on. Double-cross us, and we will find you, and it will not be pretty.
Henry: Yes, thank you for reminding me, Katie.
Rose: Can we trust him?
Katie: Probably not.
Lucinda: All right. Darling? Can I just look at it? You know, I'm just thinking. I mean, it's just -- I never saw it before. It's magnificent! I think this beauty should not be allowed to languish unprotected. Is it all right if I put it in the safe with the provenance? You trust me?
Rose: Yes. You can.
Lucinda: Okay. Desi, I need you now!
Rose: Mm-hmm. You all right?
Katie: No.
Rose: Me, either.
Katie: Did you ever notice how easy it is to just take someone for granted and then, as soon as they're gone, you realize how important they are?
Rose: Yeah. It's that way with my pop. No matter what I said, no matter what I did in my life, he just -- I was the best, you know?
Katie: I could spend days on end with Simon -- morning, noon and night -- and still find myself smiling whenever he walks in the room. It was like that from the very beginning, and I know it will always be like that.
Rose: We'll get 'em back. I feel it.
Katie: I know.
Henry: Sorry, ladies. Bad news.
Katie: What?
Henry: Mr. Donovan Curry has disappeared.
Rose: Donovan had his face carved out for that diamond. He's not leaving this island without it.
Henry: Look for yourself, Rose. It's empty.
Katie: Was there any note? Any clue about where to find
Henry: Oh, nothing, nothing, nothing. From the looks of it, he even took the towels.
Rose: Ugh! What are we gonna do? No Donovan, no clues -- nothing!
Henry: Well, now look on the bright side here, Rose. Now you still have the diamond. For negotiating purposes only.
Lucinda: The diamond is secured safely. Henry, what are you doing here? What's happened now?
Rose: Donovan took off. He's not in his room. Henry checked.
Lucinda: Desi, did he?
Desi: I hope not! His bill's still unpaid. I'll start searching for him.
Lucinda: Honey, this is just a ploy. He wants us to negotiate on his terms. That's all it is.
Katie: Yeah, but he knows how much Rose wants to find her father. Why would he just take off like that -- ?
Paul: All right. We're all restocked. Some guy on the street, if you can believe that
Rose: We got a problem here. Donovan took off. Which means we can't find my pop.
Paul: Has anybody checked the airports?
Lucinda: Desi is on the case.
Paul: There has to be some explanation. That Donovan guy just
Henry: Is it possible I looked in the wrong room? No -- huh?
Rose: You're an idiot!
Lucinda: Rose!
Rose: That's it! I've had enough. I want my pop.
"Simon": Not until you put the diamond, and the provenance, right there.
[Rose spits]
Rose: No deal. I wanna know my pop is alive and well.
"Simon": You see, I'm the one setting the conditions here.
Rose: Ugh.
"Simon": You give me the diamond and the provenance, and then you get your father.
Rose: No!
Rose: I want to know that my pop is all right. You bring him to me, and then we can talk!
"Simon": All right, I am through playing games with you guys! Now you either cooperate, or I carve my initials in your heart!
08-05-02 ... A Representative for the Avanya Traveler's Assistance Society On Duty
Henry: I don't think that came from the Avanya costume collection.
Lucinda: Shut up, give me your knife!
Henry: What do you mean, "give me your knife"?
"Simon": Would you just shut up?!
[All shouting]
"Simon": You are giving me a headache! Now, I'm walking out of here, and none of you are gonna get in my way.
Paul: All right, all right, all right, you wanna hurt somebody, hurt me. Leave Rose alone.
Rose: Does this cheap imitation think I've never stared at a switchblade before, huh? No, no, no, it's gonna take more than that to scare me! I wanna know where my pop is stashed, and I wanna know now!
"Simon": I am so sick of hearing about your pop!
Rose: Oh, you know what?
Lucinda: Rose! Rose!
[All screaming and shouting as Paul scuffles with "Simon" over the knife.]
Rose: Paul! Paul, are you okay?
Rose: Wait, Katie! Wait, wait!
Katie: You can't die yet! Please, talk to us!
Paul: I just wanted to get the knife away from him --
Lucinda: You can't pull it out. He'll bleed to death.
"Simon": Oh, well, this is just great.
Rose: Hey, there, you're not checkin' into the light until you tell me where my pop is. This piece of crud is the only person who knows where he is!
Lucinda: Okay, honey, I'll get an ambulance.
"Simon": Oh, please, don't bother. I just need a smoke.
Lucinda: Well, we're very tempted to let you die, but I'm going to get an ambulance, anyway.
"Simon": One of these days, these things are gonna be the death of me.
Lucinda: Have it your way. I'll get the ambulance, and I'll check and see if any locals were witnesses.
Katie: Come on, there's no use holding out on us now. Tell us exactly what we have to do to get Simon and Joe back, please.
"Simon": You never believed me, did you?
Katie: No. It's not his face that makes my Simon who he is. It's his heart. Come on, please, just tell us what we have to do.
"Simon": I was supposed to deliver the diamond to Slade tonight.
Katie: Slade? That's the guy I met when I first got here. Where? Where was he --
"Simon": I don't know. He didn't tell me.
Rose: How am I supposed to get my pop back?
"Simon": You don't.
Paul: Wait, you said you were going to keep him for insurance. What --
"Simon": Weeks on this island, and you still don't know what people like Slade are all about, do you?
Rose: Well, enlighten me, please.
"Simon": Nothing -- nothing gets in the way of his plan.
Paul: What plan?
"Simon": Once he's got the diamond and the provenance, what does he need your old man for, huh?
Rose: What are they going to do to him?
"Simon": I think you know the answer to that.
Rose: No!
Katie: Please, just talk to us. You have to tell us a little bit more. Just talk to us, please. What do we have to do?! Oh, my God. He's dead.
Paul: I never meant for this to happen.
Rose: No, Donovan is the one that pulled the knife. If you hadn't jumped up, it would be me lying there right now. What are we gonna do about my pop? He's the only one -- this guy's the only one who knew what was going on with him. And now he's stone-cold dead.
Lucinda: He's dead?
Rose: He's dead.
Lucinda: Oh, dear. Rose, it's okay. We're still going to find him. All right, come on, Henry. Help me with this.
Henry: Help you with what?
Lucinda: This! We're going to cover him up.
Henry: What do you mean? He's dead. I'm not gonna --
Lucinda: Well, so, he's dead. So what? Take that part.
Henry: I don't want to be an accomplice to this, okay?
Lucinda: Yes, you're going to wrap him up and put him under wraps until --
Henry: All right. Fine, fine.
Lucinda: -- We find out what we want to do with him. Tick-tock, do it.
Paul: We're not going to let anything happen to your father, all right? We've come too far now.
Rose: What about this Slade guy? Donovon's suppose to meet him tonight. And if he doesn't show up, then Slade's gonna think he's been double-crossed. He's gonna kill my pop!
Lucinda: Now, let's just think a minute. This is a business deal. It's still a business deal. We've got a lot of business minds in this room. Let's think collectively and accurately.
Katie: Okay. Well, it's safe to assume that Joe is still alive, because Slade needs him to get the diamond. So he's gonna keep him alive. He needs him for leverage, all right?
Paul: Right. Right. So we need to make sure that Slade still gets his meeting with Donovan.
Lucinda: You're cookin'! Take charge!
Henry: Yeah, yeah. Well, I don't want to burst anyone's bubble here, but I don't think this guy's gonna be too talkative.
Paul: We gotta hide Donovan's body, get Simon out of jail. Simon's going to take that meeting with Slade.
Lucinda: I really admire your creativity, Paul, but you didn't have much luck the first go-around springing Simon from jail.
Paul: In a few minutes, the door of Simon's cell is coming off.
Katie: How are we gonna get back into the jail?
Paul: I don't know. We'll think of something. Are you up for going with me again?
Katie: Yes. I want to see Simon. I know that's not him under the, but, oh, seeing that face and knowing that he was dying --
Lucinda: Please, honey, don't go all soft on us. We gotta be tough and hang in together, or we'll never get off this god-forsaken island.
Rose: I gotta do something. I can't just sit here waiting for you guys to come --
Paul: We will not be gone long, okay?
Rose: Just something. Give me something, anything.
Paul: All right, all right. Check on the diamond and the provenance. Make sure they're still in the hotel safe, okay? If Simon's gonna make that meeting tomorrow with Slade, he's gonna have to have some bargaining power.
Rose: I held onto that rock for so long. I fought to hold onto it for so long. Sometimes I wish Granny Carpenter never gave it to me.
Paul: All right, somebody's gotta hide Donovan's body quietly so Slade never finds out he's dead.
Lucinda: We'll handle that.
Paul: Okay.
Henry: "We"?
Lucinda: We. Don't think about it. Don't give it another thought.
Rose: Come back to me.
Paul: I will.
Rose: Okay?
Paul: Katie, are you ready?
Katie: Yeah.
Henry: Well, Lucinda, I just can't wait to hear what brilliant idea you have for getting rid of the late Mr. Curry.
Lucinda: Why do I have to solve all the problems?
Think of how we're gonna do it.
Henry: Okay, okay, okay.
Lucinda: Okay.
Henry: No!
Lucinda: Up.
Henry: What do you mean -- put him in, put him in.
Lucinda: That's it. Oh, my heavens, we had to do it, and we did it.
Henry: Yes. I don't think I'll mind if I have one little martini before we have to touch him again, huh?
Lucinda: Oh, stop being so silly. I mean, we had to do this. He wouldn't have bent if he had rigor mortis.
Henry: Oh, God, Lucinda, do you have to talk about him with such remove, huh?
Lucinda: He's dead! How do you want me to talk about him?
Henry: Can we just -- let's just box him up and go to the nearest post office and mail him very far away.
Lucinda: You know, this wouldn't have happened if you hadn't let yourself fall in with a gang of thieves, Henry.
Henry: Well, Cooley told me there'd be nothing to it.
Lucinda: And look what happened to him. You better think ahead next time -- better choices, my friend.
Henry: What are you, my mother? Okay, I will.
Rose: Okay, the provenance and the diamond are safe.
Lucinda: Good, and we've stowed the deceased.
Rose: All right, let's just pray that Katie and Paul come back safe with Simon.
Simon's Jail Cell
Jailer: What do you think you're doing here?
Katie: I'm with the Avanya Traveler's Assistance Society, and I hear there's an Australian citizen being kept here.
Jailer: So?
Katie: So we're an international aid organization, and I have some food for him.
Jailer: I never heard of this traveler's assist -- whatever. You know why? 'Cause there's no such thing.
Katie: Oh, no, no, no, we're very real, as you can see right here. Why don't you go ask your supervisor? I'm sure he'll tell you that I have every right to be here.
Jailer: That's a good idea. I will do this.
Katie: Okay, fine, thank you.
Simon: All right, I knew you'd think of something.
Katie: I hope he didn't recognize I just flashed him my Oakdale Fitness membership I.D. Okay, we need to talk fast. Inside here is a bunch more of those dynamite thingies.
Simon: Where did you get these ones?
Katie: Paul got them off the street.
Simon: Where is Paul?
Katie: But he said that they should do fine.
Simon: Where is Paul?
Katie: He's outside. He didn't want them to notice him. But we've got to get you out of here tonight.
Jailer: Just as I thought! Listen, lady, get your shopping bag and get out of here right now!
Katie: Oh, but I'm sure your prisoner needs this food. It's my job. I have to give it to him.
Jailer: Hey, I know who you are, Mrs. Frasier. Now, if you don't want to become a widow right here and now, you'd better leave this jail pronto!
Simon: Go. Go, go.
Jailer: Your friends are certainly consistent -- persistent little ones, Mr. Frasier. You know, my father would say, it is a sign of a loved man to have so many come to his funeral.
[Jailer leaves]
At the cell window
Simon: What are you doing here?
Katie: Just take them. Do you know how to rig those things?
Simon: There's no problem. I know what to do. Thank -- get out of here, okay? Now.
Katie: Make sure you come to the hotel as soon as you get out of here.
Simon: Go! Go. I don't want you being anywhere around when these go off.
Katie: Okay.
Simon: Go.
Avanya - El Capitan Hotel
Henry: What?! You want me to pull him along with my harness? Why don't you two knit me a truss?
Rose: You made it back! Oh, thank God. Oh.
[Explosion]
Lucinda: I guess you delivered your load.
Katie: Well, we weren't able to set off the explosives ourselves. We had to give them to Simon. Oh, my God. I hope he's okay.
Paul: He's fine. He'll make it.
Rose: Well, he better make it. Because, you know, we have to pass him off as Donovan tomorrow or else my pop is a goner.
Lucinda: Okay. All right.
Henry: What?
Lucinda: You start talking, Henry. You tell us everything you know about this Slade man -- everything!
Paul: Hey, hey, hey. I think it's time we need to be quiet. I think Donovan was probably right when he said we can't trust anybody.
Katie: How long did it take us to walk back from the jail?
Paul: A few minutes.
Katie: Don't you think Simon should be here by now?
Slade: Well, if it isn't my favorite band of Americans.
Lucinda: Mr. Slade -- how do you do? We were just talking about you.
Slade: I want this diamond. And I want it now.
08-06-02 ... Saving the World First ... Reunion Sex Later (Sigh!)
Katie: Slade? Katie Frasier. We haven't seen each other since the first night I arrived in Avanya -- the night you warned me not to trust my husband.
Slade: I've had more than my share of cocktails and lost more than my share of poker games to your husband.
Katie: Oh.
Slade: But we've become fast friends, Simon and I. He's proven himself quite useful.
Quite a friend.
Katie: That's my Simon.
Slade: I assume Mr. Frasier's informed you of our agreement concerning your diamond and provenance?
Paul: Okay, I'm Paul Ryan. I'm Rose's fiancι.
Slade: The pleasure's all mine.
Paul: Simon tells us you can help us find Rose's father.
Rose: Yeah, yeah, you've been very helpful with my pop, I'm just wondering when I'll be able to see him.
Slade: As soon as I can pass the diamond over to his kidnappers. You do have the diamond, yes?
Rose: Gave it to Simon.
Slade: Perfect. Where might he be?
Henry: [Whispering] Dead, just like we're gonna be.
Katie: He just went out for a walk.
Slade: When do you expect him to return? [Katie notices Simon approaching, but motions for him to stop] Mrs. Frasier -- are you hiding something from me?
Katie: Well, you know, to be completely honest with you, Mr. Slade -- totally honest -- lately, I don't know where Simon's gonna be from one minute to the next, so as soon as he returns, I will have him give you a call, how's that?
Slade: That won't be necessary. I think I see an old friend of mine who'll help me pass the time. Henry Coleman - it's been too long.
Henry: Took the words right out of my mouth.
Slade: If it is all the same to you, I think I'll wait right here for your husband's return.
Katie: Okay, great. Well, it was such a pleasure to see you again.
Lucinda: Mr. Slade, I've heard so much about you, but I haven't had the pleasure. I'm Lucinda Walsh. I'm a family friend of Simon's.
Slade: The pleasure's mine.
Lucinda: Won't you join us and have a drink?
Slade: Thank you, I think I will.
Lucinda: Good.
Slade: Henry, sit. Relax, you make me nervous.
Henry: Oh, I wouldn't wan to do that. Is this all right?
Slade: You've been very protective of that trunk, Henry. What could possibly be inside?
Simon's Hotel Room
Katie: I have missed you like you would not believe. Okay, now, quick, get out of those clothes.
Simon: All right!
Katie: No.
Simon: Oh, this is business and not pleasure?
Katie: Well, sorry.
Simon: What's going on?
Katie: More sorry than you could ever know.
Simon: What is happening?
Katie: Okay, we need you to impersonate Donovan in order to get Joe back.
Simon: All right, has this got something to do with that guy downstairs?
Katie: Yeah, his name's Slade. He's the one that has Joe hostage. I met him the first night I was here. He actually told me that you were a dangerous man. Of course, he was referring to Donovan Curry, who was pretending to be you at the time, but I didn't know that yet.
Simon: Well, this must've been before he and Curry decided to team up and get the diamond.
Katie: Yeah.
Simon: All right.
Rose: [walks in on Simon beginning to undress] Hey! No, no, no -- don't do that. I'm right here. Very nice.
Simon: All right, I'll be in here.
Rose: Here's his clothes. Slade is getting really anxious. He's looking at that trunk like it's got the diamond inside of it, okay?
Katie: I know -- no, no, no worries. Simon's fine. He's gonna be dressed soon. Oh, we need one more thing. We need to get some of those disgusting cigars that Donovan smoked.
Rose: Done.
Simon: All right, so what's in that trunk downstairs that everyone seems to be --
Katie: Donovan. Donovan's in the trunk.
Simon: I take it he's not practicing to be a contortionist?
Katie: No.
Simon: So how'd he die?
Katie: He threatened to attack Rose with a knife, so of course Paul attacked him, they struggled for a while, and then Donovan fell on the knife and died. But not before telling us that Slade was the one who had Joe. So of course now Donovan is dead in the trunk, and Slade is waiting to talk to the guy.
Simon: Right. Come here.
Katie: I hope you can do this. You've gotta convince Slade that you're Donovan Curry. Otherwise, Joe's a dead man.
[Simon coughing]
Simon: So what do you think? You think I can pull this off?
Rose: Yeah. When in doubt, say something very obnoxious in a thick Australian accent like that guy on TV.
Katie: Yes, definitely very sleazy, very disgusting, no respect. You would sell your grandmother for a buck.
Simon: Oh, got it.
Paul: All right. Should we get the diamond out of the safe?
Simon: No, not yet. I don't know what I'm going to be walking into when I get down there. I don't want the diamond on me in case Slade pulls a weapon.
Katie: That's really good.
Rose: Good, good. Very good. Good thinking.
Katie: Okay. Let's not keep him waiting.
Simon: Oh, oh, oh, where are you going? Look, if I'm not taking the diamond with me, what makes you think you're coming with me?
Katie: I'm going to be your lookout.
Simon: You stay right here. No. Look, I'm gonna be a lot safer if I'm not worrying about you getting hurt. Okay?
Katie: Fine.
Simon: All right. See you soon.
Avanya - El Capitan Hotel
Simon: how is everyone this evening, hmm?
Lucinda: Simon, the man. We're all feeling so much better knowing that you're here to negotiate for Rose's father. We'd be lost without you, darling.
Henry: You don't know the half of it.
Desi: I have a message for you, Ms. Walsh.
Lucinda: Oh, thank you, Desi.
Simon: Message, huh? Well, why don't you run along and take care of that and leave us men here to do some business?
Lucinda: Right, right. Do you have any message for Rose?
Simon: Yeah, yeah. Tell her it's only gonna be a matter of time.
Slade: You've got those yahoos thinking you're the real Simon.
Simon: Yeah, that's the idea. Right?
Slade: Let's get down to business, shall we? The diamond, hmm? Where is it?
Simon: That loudmouth from Jersey won't hand it over until she gets some kind of proof that her old man' still alive.
Slade: That's interesting.
Simon: Yeah.
Slide: She told me she gave it to you. Now, which one of you is lying, my friend?
Simon's Room
Lucinda: I surely hope so, dear. You have had a communication from Oakdale.
Katie: Margo's in the hospital.
Lucinda: Yeah.
Katie: "Condition serious. Come home." Who sent this? What is this?
Lucinda: I don't know, darling. It came through Worldwide channels.
Katie: Oh, my god. All right, how soon do you think I can leave?
Rose: What? No, no, no. No, no, you can't.
Rose: No -- everyone's future is in your hands! If Simon finds out that you're leaving, you know what's gonna happen.
He's gonna follow you and what about my pop!
Lucinda: Shh, we don't know that definitely.
Rose: No, there's no way that Simon's gonna let her out in the jungle. He's gonna go after her. And then, my poor pop, he's gonna die! Two days, that's all he needs.
Paul: Rose?
Rose: Margo understands. She's a cop.
Katie: Rose come on. Just let me think about this for a second, please.
Paul: Rose?
Lucinda: All right, okay, all right. No, no, you stay. You hang with Katie. I'll go after Rose, and I'll find out what progress Simon is making. All right.
Katie: I can't leave. Simon's my husband, he's my life. He's putting his life in danger. I have to stay here.
Paul: All right, Katie. Just take a minute and think about this, okay?
Katie: No, what's to think about? Huh? This thing just shows up out of nowhere? Who -- anyone could've sent it, from anywhere in the world. Maybe it's Slade or some of his people just trying to get me out of the way. I don't know. Why would Margo need me? She has Tom. She has Craig. No, this is a trap. It has to be.
Paul: Or it really could be Margo. And she really might need you this time.
Avanya - El Capitan Hotel - Lounge
Simon: Yeah. Yeah, well, it just depends on the timing of the old man's demise. You see, I need him alive.
Slade: Why?
Simon: Because I figured out that this face is worth a lot more than I thought.
That Walsh dame is worth a mint. Now, if I can keep D'Angelo alive a little longer, there's more money to be made.
Slade: I want him dead.
Simon: Slade, he will be. I'm gonna kill him myself. Look, the man's feverish. So I'm gonna drug him, then deliver him to his daughter. All right? He's out like a light, but she doesn't care. 'Cause she's just happy to have the old man alive. And on the way to the hospital, he croaks -- accidentally, on purpose, if you know what I mean. You get yours, I get mine, D'Angelo gets dead.
Slade: Fine. For a piece of the action.
Simon: Well, I didn't think this partnership was gonna extend beyond the diamond. But yeah. Yeah, I think we can work something out. Mm-hmm. So where do we make the transfer?
Slade: One hour from now, on my boat, Golden Sunset.
Simon: Good thinking. One hour.
Slade: One more thing.
Simon: Yeah?
Slade: The other Simon Frasier? How will you dispose of him?
Simon: Well, you didn't hear? There was an explosion at the jail cell tonight. Mr. Frasier sizzled like a shrimp on the barbie, if you get what I mean.
Slade: Fortune smiles on you, my friend.
Simon's Room
Paul: Well, if Joe, Simon, Lucinda, Rose and I, we all need you. So why is it hard to believe that Margo might need you, too?
Katie: Okay. But how? I can't leave Simon here alone. But he can't come with me either.
Rose is right. He has to stay here and finish this thing.
Paul: You want me to take you to the jet or no?
Katie: No. And travel through that jungle again? No, those soldiers are gonna capture you. I don't wanna put you in that danger.
Paul: Simon is doing everything he can to help the woman I love. It's only fair that I return the favor.
Katie: Hey. How did it go?
Simon: Fine.
Simon: Fine, yeah. The plan's all set. We're trading the diamond for Joe in one hour on Slade's boat.
Paul: All right, I'll go tell Rose.
Katie: So, are you sure he thought that you were Donovan? I mean, what if he's just bluffing what if --
Simon: Katie, please. You're married to the ultimate con, remember? It was fine.
Katie: I just want you to be safe.
Simon: I will be. I will be. And I will always come home to you. I missed you so much.
Katie: Come here.
Avanya - El Capitan Hotel
Katie: Told him what?
Rose: That you're going back to Oakdale.
[Simon walks up]
Simon: All right, I better get going. Wish me luck.
Rose: Ahh, no, no, no. Not so fast. You might need this.
Simon: The Rose of Sharon. I chased this halfway across the globe. I thought it was all I ever wanted. Who would've thought it would only lead me to the real jewel in my life?
Katie: You come back to me, me back in one piece. Okay, Simon Frasier? I love you.
Simon: I love you so much, baby. All right. [Simon leaves]
Paul: You didn't tell him, did you?
Rose: You didn't tell him you're leaving?
Katie: He needs to be focused on getting out of that meeting alive and getting Joe back.
He has a job to do, and if he knew that I was leaving, he'd be worried about me. So, he's gonna be fine. They both will.
Rose: I owe you. Big time.
Katie: Yeah, I know. And don't think I'm gonna forget.
Lucinda: Katie, you really have to go back now? Really? Come on. Simon is smart, and he's swift. A few days -- a few hours, more or less. Will it make that much difference to Margo?
Katie: My whole entire life, Margo's never asked me for anything. Not one thing. I'm not gonna make her wait now.
08-09-02 ... "Dr. Frasier, at Your Service"
Katie: Yeah, well, never a vacation in a dictatorship.
Craig: Don't marry into one, either. Is Simon with you?
Katie: No, he's still in Avanya with Lucinda, Rose and Paul and Henry. We still haven't found Joe.
Craig: You came home? It's not like you to give up.
Katie: What's going on with Margo? I got this weird message while I was away. Is she okay? And don't lie to me, please.
Craig: She apparently contracted Hepatitis C.
Katie: Hepatitis C? Isn't that the bad one? How did she get that?
Craig: The rape in '92.
Katie: What?
Craig: And she's evidently developed some form of cancer, too.
Katie: Cancer? What else?
Craig: Only chance is a liver transplant.
Katie: Oh, my God.
Craig: Hey, hey.
Katie: I had this sick feeling. I knew that something was wrong. I just -- I just knew it.
Craig: It's okay.
Katie: Simon doesn't even know I'm gone.
Craig: Hmm? Oh, I'm sure he'll notice the silence.
Katie: He's in the middle of some tricky negotiations. And if they find out that he's not him, then they'll kill him.
Craig: That is tricky.
Katie: Rose is beside herself. Her father's sick.
Craig: Well, I am sure Lucinda will make that all better.
Katie: I don't even know why. I just took off. I just knew. I had this feeling. And the whole way home on the plane, I just kept thinking about Margo and how strong she is and how she's always been there for me and how I don't know what I would ever do if I lost her.
Craig: We're not going to lose her.
Katie: You don't know that.
Craig: We know she's strong. You just said it yourself. And she has you and me, okay?
Katie: Will you come to the hospital with me?
Craig: No, I have to go to Hal and Emily's wedding. But I'll come by later.
Katie: Hal and Emily are getting married?
Craig: Yes. I promised I'd put in an appearance. But I will be by later, okay?
Katie: Okay.
Craig: We will get through this. All right? I'm glad you're home.
Katie: I'm gonna stay here, if that's okay. I don't want to go back to the cottage without Simon there.
Craig: No, that's okay. You can make yourself comfortable in your old room.
Katie: Thank you.
Craig: Now, listen, I do have to get going. Lucy will be expecting me.
Katie: Okay.
Craig: All right?
Katie: Have fun, go. And, Craig?
Craig: Hmm?
Katie: You're a great brother. [Craig nods and leaves] And I'm going to be the best sister you ever had, Margo. Just, please, don't go anywhere.
Memorial Hospital - Margo's Room
Margo: Oh! Katie! I'm sorry. Katie, you're here!
Katie: Yeah. Of course, I'm here.
Margo: Oh, baby. Oh.
Katie: [hands Margo a stuffed bunny] This is from Snickers.
Margo: Oh. Oh, God, Katie, I missed you so much, Katie.
Katie: I missed you, too.
Margo: You wouldn't believe this. I feel like I'm -- I'm living "The Wizard of Oz" here. I just keep asking people if I can go home. And they won't let me go.
Katie: They won't let you?
Margo: No, they won't let me. I keep asking them over and over again. I tell them, I'll stay in bed, I'll take my medicines, and they won't let me.
Katie: Hold on a second. Since when does Margo Hughes ask permission to do anything? You want to go home? Let's go.
Katie: This is America. Exercise your right to go home. Let's go.
Margo: They will stop me.
Katie: No, they won't. Not if they don't see you.
Margo: Well, how do propose to do that? I'm very seeable. I'm Dr. Dixon's daughter. He's got spies everywhere.
Katie: Simple. I throw you into a wheelchair and load a couple of these big flower arrangements on your lap.
Margo: I'm so glad you didn't choose crime as a career.
Katie: Oh, come on, Margo. It's gonna work. And if it doesn't, I'll think of something else. I wouldn't want to resort to pulling the fire alarm so -
Margo: No, no, no, no.
Katie: Laundry cart?
Margo: Okay, okay. All right, Katie, just -- aren't you supposed to be down in Avanya up to no good?
Katie: No, this is more important.
Margo: I appreciate that.
Katie: Good. Then let me help you. Do you know how many times you've helped me in this lifetime?
Margo: Oh, let's see -- do you want a rough estimate?
Katie: Exactly. So, it's my turn. If you need help, I'll help you. You're the one that keeps everybody in this family together.
Margo: No, that's -- that's not true really. I
Katie: Yes, it is. Even Craig admits it.
Margo: Huh-uh.
Katie: You're the one, uh-huh. It's you. You keep us together -- me, Craig, Cricket, Mama, everybody. Especially me. So, if you need help, then I'm your man -- woman.
Margo: Okay man/woman. Oh, it's so good to see you, Katherine.
Katie: Good. Then let's get out of here, Margo.
Margo: Okay. All right, how do I look?
Katie: Like a hydrangea in heat. Don't worry. No one's gonna recognize you.
Margo: Yeah? How do you propose they don't recognize you?
Katie: Easy. I took a little trip to the supply closet. Dr. Frasier, at your service.
Margo: Oh, Katie -- you forgot the rest of your coat. You're too much.
Katie: Come on, are you ready to go?
Margo: Yes! Yes! Home Katie.
08-12-02 ... Katie Frasier's Mind-Busting Powers of Persuasion
Margo: Oh, not until after the wedding.
Katie: Tom is not gonna like this.
Margo: Just let me handle Tom, okay?
Katie: Just promise me, though, if we mess up with the medication
Margo: We won't, we won't, we won't. You got the schedule, right?
Katie: I did. Stole it right off the chart.
Margo: There we go. Good girl.
[Adam comes in the house]
Adam: Hey, Katie, what are you doing -- mom?
Margo: Oh, okay, so no welcome home?
Adam: So I thought that the hospital wasn't letting you leave.
I mean -- I don't
Margo: Shouldn't you be at the wedding? Why aren't you there?
Adam: Oh, I forgot the gift. Actually, Tom's waiting for me.
Margo: Please, Adam, just don't tell him, not yet.
Adam: Why not?
Margo: Because if you tell him, then he's -- he's gonna try to convince me to go back to the hospital and it'll take forever. I mean, you know him, and you probably won't get to your father's wedding until they cut the cake.
Adam: Okay, well, how 'bout you? Are you okay?
Adam: Okay, and does grandpa know about this?
Margo: Which one?
Adam: You know which one.
Katie: Actually, I talked to Margo's doctor, that liver specialist, and he said he's totally on board with her being home.
[Car horn honking]
Margo: All right, please, I -- I feel better now that I have in days, Adam. Please, just go.
Adam: Okay.
Margo: Go. You know that if Tom honks again, he's gonna be in here.
Adam: Okay, now you rest, okay? Bye.
Margo: I will.
Adam: Bye, Katie.
Margo: Adam? The gift.
Adam: Okay, yeah, got it. Thanks. Bye.
[Door closes]
Margo: He looks so handsome.
Katie: Oh, he does. Don't worry. I'm sure they'll take a family picture or something.
Margo: Yeah, yeah, they will, but it's -- it's not the same.
Katie: As what?
Margo: As being there.
Okay, I'm just gonna say this once and get it out, and I don't want to sound selfish or like I'm whining -- or whining. I just don't do that. I just -- okay?
Katie: Sorry.
Margo: The thing is, I know that I've got to go through this, and -- and, my God. Please, I wouldn't wish this on anybody else. But now, I see people that aren't sick, and -- and I think, "well, they don't know what this is like" I mean, they -- they go to work and they go for walks and they throw dinner on the table and-- they don't even give it a second thought, and I just think, those fools. They take everything for granted. Like it'll always be that way, and they'll always have tomorrow and -- I'd give anything to be one of those fools again. I just -- I want to be anybody other than me right now. I want my life back, Katie. I want -- I want
Tom & Margo's House - Outside
John: Where's Margo?
Katie: She's napping. I'm glad I heard you drive up.
John: I'm taking her back to the hospital.
Katie: Hold on, hold on, hold on. Just -- everything's going to be fine. Just go back to the hospital for a little while if you could and let her nap, and then we'll talk about this later.
John: Get out of my way.
Katie: Hold on, John, wait!
Just please, just listen to my reasoning. All right? You're her doctor. So, obviously you're worried about her medically. But you've got to think about her as a person, as her father. She wants to be here. She wants to be a wife and a mom, and cuddle up on her own couch and think about her life positively after the stupid Hepatitis C.
John: Don't you understand? I want her to have a life
Katie: And she will be!
John: -- After Hepatitis C.
Katie: And she will. You know how strong she is. She's still that strong. You just gotta trust in her and have faith in her decision to stay home right now. I wasn't at that hospital two minutes, and I saw how depressed she was, and how she was thinking it was the end already. It was ridiculous to think that she would have to go back there. What good is a new liver if she has a broken heart?
Katie: She needs her family now, John, especially her dad.
John: You're right, Katie, she does have rights as a patient to wait at home if she wants.
But you people are putting her life in jeopardy.
Katie: Do you think that Margo would make a stupid decision about her life right now? Especially now? She just wants to be home. When's your next break?
John: What are you talking about?
Katie: 'Cause I was gonna make dinner tonight. I thought that we could all have dinner together. You can hang out here, pop open a beer, hang out with your daughter.
John: I've got some things to do at the hospital. And I will be back, I will be back. You have my telephone number, you know how to get in touch with me?
Katie: I do. It's on the fridge right next to her medication schedule.
John: All right, fine, I'll see you later.
Katie: Okay. Thank you, John. Thank you so much. She's going to be so excited to see you. It'll be good.
Tom & Margo's House
Katie: It wasn't easy. That guy sure loves you. What are you doing off the couch?
Margo: Because now I want to put your powers of persuasion to a real test.
Katie: [on the phone] I just checked her temperature, Dr. Corder, it was normal. Her color's good. She just got up from a nap. Now, I know, I won't leave her side. And if anything changes, I know what to do. What -- yeah, okay, I will. Don't worry. Thank you.
Margo: Hey, so, what did he say?
Katie: He said we're going to a wedding.
08-14-02 ... Kudos from a Former Crush
Katie: Are you leaving already?
Holden: Yeah, Lily, she goes to bed kind of early these days.
I want to be there when that happens.
Katie: Well, listen, I'll come by soon and I'll tell her everything about Rose and Lucinda. And just keep her up to date. I think the more she knows, the less she'll worry.
Holden: Thank you.
Katie: No problem. And I'll call first.
Holden: You know, I always thought that you had potential.
Katie: No, you didn't.
Holden: Okay, all right, I didn't. I'm glad you proved me wrong.
Margo: Katie?
Katie: Oh, you're tired, and you want to go home.
Margo: Yeah, but I don't want to say anything to Tom, because he'll just worry.
Katie: Okay.
Tom: Hey, did anybody try this chicken? It's sensational.
Katie: Actually, I'm kind of ready to go.
Tom: So soon?
Katie: Yeah, I think I'm still on Avanya time. Oh, and I heard Hal and Emily want to get out of here early.
Tom: Well, you can't blame them for that. Do you mind?
Margo: It's up to you.
Tom: Then I will say our good-byes to Hal and Emily.
Margo: Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Katie: You're welcome, welcome, welcome.
08-15-02 ... Heroics in Hurricanes and Hospitals
Katie: Shh, shh! Your Mom's taking a nap.
Casey: We won!
Katie: Nice! Very good. Boy, you need a new shirt.
Casey: No, I have a shirt.
Katie: I know, but it looks like you've been rolling around in the mud.
Casey: Well, how do you think we won?
Margo: You gotta choose your battles, Katie.
Katie: Oh, Margo, I'm so sorry. We woke you up.
Margo: You didn't. You made me laugh. Come here. Come here, slugger. Tell me how you plowed into home plate, huh?
Casey: Mom --
Margo: Hi. So I heard. Tell me. I want it play by play.
Casey: We won.
Margo: Yeah, I know.
Katie: Yes, operator. I know. It happens every time. It's just really hard to get a phone line in Avanya. Okay. Well, could you just try a couple more times? Oh, and use Lucinda Walsh's name. She has huge connections down there. And she knows where my husband is. Thank you.
Avanya - El Capital Hotel
Lucinda: I can't find
Rose: Did he take off on his on?
Lucinda: I can't find Desi. I can't find anybody that's suppose to be working in this joint. And the wind is -- a storms coming.
Henry: I thought you heard the news. Some soldiers came and took Desi away early this morning.
Rose: What soldiers? What is this?
Henry: You know, soldiers -- the guy in the fatigues and sort of dower facial expression. Hey, is there a radio free Avanya? Now, that could be really helpful.
Paul: Rose!
Rose: Paul! Paul! I was so worried about you? What happened? Oh, my god.
Lucinda: Are you okay?
Rose: Did you go on Slade's boat by yourself? What happened?
Paul: I was. But before I got there, I found Simon on the side of the road.
Rose: Well, what happened? What happened? Did you give him the diamond? Did you give Slade the diamond?
Simon: No. No, I couldn't get through to make the trade.
Lucinda: Was it because of the military?
Simon: That's not the half of it. Rose, your father's not the only one in danger here.
Rose: Why? What happened?
Simon: Mother nature happened. A hurricane's about to rip through this island. We don't want to be here when it does.
Tom & Margos House
Margo: Oh, honey, I'm great. I'm great. I'm just great. I was just listening to Casey. He brought in the winning run here, slid for it.
Adam: All right there, slick. Way to go. Very good.
Margo: So are you on your way to the airport?
Adam: Well, either that, or I could just put all my stuff in the washer and stay another week.
Margo: No, no, no, I'm fine. I'm fine, you go. I'm all right.
Casey: So, what's L.A. like?
Adam: Bad yogurt -- no active culture. Get it?
Katie: Good one.
Margo: Yeah, honey, you gotta really stop looking for culture in L.A. and concentrate on getting your film lit paper done.
Adam: You knew about that?
Margo: Yes, I know everything.
Adam: Ah, well, you know what? The summer semester's really kinda loose. I mean, I could probably get all my work done here.
Margo: No, no, I'm fine. You go.
Katie: Yeah, I know all her tricks. Don't worry, I've got her covered.
Margo: Yeah, Katie'll drive you to the airport.
Adam: Oh, I'll was gonna call a cab, but --
Katie: I don't know about that.
Margo: I'm fine, I'm fine. I've got Casey here to keep me in cuffs.
Casey: Cool. Then way you can't go upstairs to see my room.
Margo: I'm never going to see your room.
Katie: You know the drill, right?
Casey: Yes, anything happens, I call dad, then grandpa John, then grandpa Bob --
Margo: You know what? You're only job is to hand me the remote control.
Casey: Yeah, yeah.
Margo: And your job is to have a very safe flight and get back to L.A. And make fabulous movies. And I'll be on my feet again by the next time you come home.
Adam: Well, you'd better be. Okay, well, feel better.
Margo: Yeah.
Adam: I love you.
Margo: I love you.
Casey: I'll walk you.
Adam: All right, come on. Catch.
Casey: Oh, I have to carry your bags.
Adam: Yeah, you gotta carry my bags.
Margo: Thank you so much for putting Adam's mind at ease.
Katie: No problem. Are you sure you're gonna be okay with Casey? Because I could just go --
Margo: Yeah, I'm fine.
Katie: I mean, I could call a cab or something.
Margo: Katie, I am so fine. You just go. And if I hear anything about Simon, I will call your cell phone.
Katie: Thanks. Okay.
Avanya - El Capital Hotel
Rose: What are they doing?
Simon: Hauling stuff -- weapons, supplies, trying to get everything to a higher ground. All around town, they're rounding up civilians and throwing them into jail.
Henry: Well, that's an economical way to deal with an ecological disaster.
Rose: What's that mean for my pop? What about Slade? Is he gonna stick around for the diamond, or is he gonna just vamoose before the storm hits?
Lucinda: Honey, Slade is not gonna leave without the diamond!
Rose: What if he gives up and throws my pop over --
Simon: Listen, Rose. Rose, Slade has worked too hard and come too far to leave without this.
Henry: There's my baby.
Rose: Enough already. Would you stop it.
Paul: All right. Hey, hey, hey, we got enough time before this storm hits to get Joe out of here.
Simon: It's fine. It's fine. I got a plan.
Henry: Well, share it, please.
Simon: Look, I just want to go upstairs, okay? First, check in with Katie.
Lucinda: Darling, Katie is not here. She left.
Simon: What?
Lucinda: She left. She got a message from Margo, who's quite ill, and she was needed, and she left.
Simon: And you believed this message?!
Paul: I took her to the airport myself, Simon.
Lucinda: The jet took off fine. She's home. She's safe and sound.
Simon: You're kidding me, right? Oh! Hijackings are as common as cockroaches down here! Katie --
Rose: She had to go, all right? She was worrying about you, but she had to deal with her sister, okay? Don't worry about Katie. She's got nine lives, that one. She'll be fine. But you -- we need you here. Please, do not -- Simon! We need you. Do not freak out on us now.
Oakdale Airport
Adam: So you promise me you're gonna give me a call as soon as my Mom goes off to the hospital?
Katie: Of course.
Adam: Okay.
Clerk: Last boarding call
for flight 36 to Los Angeles.
Katie: Listen to me. The best thing you can do for your Mom is just to not worry, go to school, get a bunch of "As," have fun. She has the best doctors in the world and the best husband in the world.
Adam: And I thank you so much. I mean, you don't understand how comforted I am that you're taking care of her.
Katie: Oh, me, too.
Adam: Take it easy.
Katie: You, too. You'd better go.
Adam: Yeah, bye-bye.
Katie: Be safe.
Adam: I will, bye-bye.
Katie: "Hurricane threatens massive destruction. Rush to evacuate city." Oh, my god, Simon.
Katie: I just need to know if planes can still get out of Avanya.
Clerk: It'll just take a second to login into the database.
Katie: Hopefully my husband got out of there. Hopefully they all got out before the hurricane hit.
Clerk: It seems the air space around Avanya has been sealed.
Katie: Sealed?
Clerk: There's a class three hurricane just 30 miles west of the island.
Katie: Class three? How is that bad?
Clerk: Upward winds of 130 miles per hour -- that's bad. I'm sorry.
Katie: Oh, god. Oh, god, please, let Simon be okay. Please, don't let him get hurt.
Avanya - El Capital Hotel
Henry: No, wait a minute, wait a minute. Katie leaves an island, and then she promises to send a plane back to pick up those she left behind. Where have I heard that before? And why does it not instill me with confidence?
Rose: That's enough, okay? We're goin' home, on that plane, and we're gonna be with my pop, too. All of us.
Lucinda: Shh, shh, shh. Hush, hush, kids, please. Simon, you say you have a plan?
Simon: Yeah, I know how to get onto Slade's boat.
Paul: All right, I'm going with you.
Simon: No. I'm gonna get Joe. You stay here, get as many supplies as you can. Tarps, water, whatever you can get your hands on.
Henry: I'll start with the bar.
Simon: This place is gonna be a zoo as soon as that hurricane hits. People are gonna storm it. I'll get Joe, bring him back here. We're gonna get the hell out of this hole.
Lucinda: Good luck.
Paul: All right, ladies, let's go!
Lucinda: All right, come on, come on.
08-16-02 ... Danger on the Sea and at Home
Margo: Yeah, he sat on me, till I gave him ten bucks to go away.
Katie: Margo --
Margo: Well, Katie, he's just next door. And if I need him, he can be here in 17 seconds. We timed it.
Katie: You did not.
Margo: Yeah.
Katie: And what if it had been Tom coming home or your dad coming over for a visit.
Margo: He would have recognized the cars and come in the other way.
Katie: Oh, so I don't rate? Nice. Oh, where's the news?
Margo: It's not on for another half an hour. Hey, don't yell at Casey about this, 'cause
Katie: I won't.
Margo: I thought you said you didn't watch the news anymore since you left Woak.
Katie: Oh, I'm -- I'm just checking something. Where was the weather channel?
Margo: All right, something's wrong. What's wrong?
Katie: No. I -- I can't check the weather channel without something having happened?
Margo: No, you? No, you can't, no.
Katie: Well, too bad. If you can get out of bed and pay your son to leave the house, then I can have a secret.
Margo: You wanna bet?
Katie: But you're sick.
Margo: I'm your sister, Katie. But I may be your sick sister. Katie?
Katie: Margo, all hell is breaking loose in Avanya. There's a huge hurricane. All of the planes are down. All of the phone lines are down. Simon could be dead or drowned or worse.
Avanya - El Capital Hotel
Simon: They're shutting down the hotel. They're evacuating everyone before the hurricane hits.
Rose: What about my pop?!
Simon: I'm gonna take care of your father, Rose. I promise. Just get what you need. Get to the airport now, the two of you. Go, go!
Rose: All right, okay. I'm going.
Lucinda: Come on.
Paul: Have you got the diamond, the provenance?
Simon: Right here.
Paul: All right, now be careful. Slade'll kill you if he finds out you're not Donovan.
Simon: You keep your eyes open as well. The airport's gonna be teaming with desperados looking for a way off this island. If they spot Lucinda's plane
Paul: Yeah, and if I'm lucky, I'll be able to persuade her not to shoot them, all right? Good luck.
Simon: Take care. Henry, Henry, there's not enough room for your makeup case, buddy.
Henry: Oh, that's funny. Why don't you tell that to Desi? He was the one that's supposed to dump the body of your evil twin here. It looks like he forgot.
Simon: All right. We can't leave it here, can we?
Henry: No, no kidding. You got any bright ideas?
Simon: Well, we've gotta unpack it, dump it in the surf.
Henry: Unpack it? Do you know how hot it is on this island and how long this body's been in this trunk?
Simon: Go off with the ladies, Henry. I'll take care of it.
Henry: Oh, you will? Fine. Why not? He's your doppelganger.
Simon: What the --
"Simon": Sorry to disappoint you.
Simon: I thought you were dead.
"Simon": Well, you were misinformed.
"Simon": Now give me the diamond and the paperwork. And don't tell me you don't have it, because I know you do! I heard you tell your friend Paul.
Simon: And why would I hand them over to you?
"Simon": Because I'm the one with the knife. And you don't wanna go home to that irritating wife of yours minus an eye.
Simon: You couldn't cut butter with that knife. Next time you point a knife at me, you better be willing to use it.
Paul: All right. All right, go on. I got him. I got him, go! Go get to Joe. There's no telling what Donovan's told Slade. Get out of here.
Lucinda: Oh, god.
Paul: Lucinda, get some rope! Get some rope, go!
Lucinda: Okay. All right!
Paul: All right. Simon, we'll meet you at the boat.
Simon: No. No, it's too dangerous.
Paul: Simon, we don't have a choice! The airport is closed. I don't even know if Lucinda's jet's back yet. Go!
Simon: All right. Just stay out of sight. Keep off the road, okay? I'll meet you at the harbor. Look for the fishing trawler with the red moon above the water mark. All right?
Paul: We'll meet you there. Get out of here! Go!
Lucinda: Of course I'm sure he's not dead, for heaven's sake!
Paul: Come on, give me the rope!
Rose: Paul, you didn't kill him? That's good.
Paul: Lucinda --
[shouting over each other]
Lucinda: The knife!
Paul: Find his knife!
Rose: He came at you with a knife?
Lucinda: I got it!
Rose: Come on. I'm sick and tired of you threatening the people that I love.
"Simon": You hurt me and you will never see your dear, old pop again.
Rose: If you hurt my pop, I will track you down and kill you myself.
[Thunder claps]
"Simon: You haven't got the nerve. And if you think Slade's gonna believe Simon's me, you're crazy.
Rose: Slade doesn't care. He doesn't care. He wants what he wants, that guy.
Lucinda: And fortunately for us, Slade has got many tacks in his head. He's already accepted Simon as you!
"Simon": You sure about that?
Tom & Margos House
Margo: Katie, Katie, it would take more than bad weather to faze Simon. So I still have contacts at the state department. And I'll just call Shanks and have him get the number off my rolodex.
Katie: Oh, that would be great. What's wrong?
Margo: I can't remember the number at the station. I just -- you know, yesterday I called Casey something, and now I can't remember the number of the place I spent the better part of my life at.
Katie: You took your pill, I hope.
Margo: What pill?
Katie: The one I left by your bed.
Margo: That little lump by the glass of water? Of course I did.
Katie: Okay.
[Doorbell chimes] 'cause I was thinking, you know, maybe we should just time your watch.
Margo: No, I don't want my watch yelling at me too.
Katie: Hey. Hi, Abigail.
Abigail: Is she up? We thought we'd drop by for a couple minutes?
Katie: Are you up? Abigail has what smells like fresh baked bread.
Margo: I'm up, I'm up. I'm always up for fresh baked bread.
Abigail: Oh, it's just whole wheat with sunflower seeds.
Margo: Oh, no such thing as "just" homemade bread with -- Hi, Chris. Got your medical bag?
Abigail: Oh, it's a social call. He got his bag 'cause he's on the way to the hospital.
Chris: I'm just here for the bread.
Margo: Yeah, well, homemade bread deserves fresh --
Katie: Margo!
Chris: I got her. I got her.
Katie: Oh, my god. Margo?
Chris: Any heart palpitations?
Margo: No. No, no.
Katie: Just let him check you, Margo, please.
Margo: No, he's not my doctor, no.
Katie: So pass out in front of Dr. Corder next time.
Chris: Listen to your heart, check your blood pressure and just make sure everything's okay.
Margo: No, it's -- no.
Chris: You shouldn't be this lightheaded, and you know it.
Chris: Abigail, can you call Tom?
Abigail: What should I tell him?
Chris: That we're headed to the hospital.
Margo: No, no, that's not your decision.
Katie: It'll be okay.
Chris: He should meet us there. Margo, your blood pressure is much too low. It's indicative of all kinds of nasty complications we wanna avoid. You need a complete work up right away.
Katie: Yeah, and then we'll be there, so if anything's wrong, then they can fix it.
Margo: No, you know -- no, I do not want to go back to the hospital.
Katie: Margo, you promised. If something happened, you would go back. And then I promise that I will bring you back here as soon as everything's fine. I promise, I will.
Margo: Okay.
Chris: Katie, can you drive? I'm gonna ride in the back with Margo.
Katie: Yeah, no problem.
Abigail: Hey, I called Tom. He wasn't in his office, but I left a message for him to call you at the hospital asap.
Chris: Thank you.
Abigail: Margo, can I get you anything?
Katie: Oh, yeah, grab her purse, please. It's right there.
Margo: Chris?
Chris: What is it?
Margo: I'm coming back here.
Chris: Yeah, you are. Abigail, can you follow us in my car?
Abigail: Sure.
Slades Boat
Joe: You're gonna leave without the diamond?
Slade: I've been waiting for Donovan for a day and a half. If he was coming, he'd be here by now.
Joe: So why don't you let me go? I'm no use to you out on that water.
Slade: What are you talkin' about, Joe? You're fish bait. And we all got to eat.
[Slade laughs]
Simon: What's so funny?
Slade: About time you showed up.
Simon: Oh, well, in case you didn't notice, we've got a bit of a storm headed our way. I see the old man's still alive.
Slade: You have the diamond?
Simon: You'll get your diamond when I take the old man back to his daughter.
Slade: Are you telling me she still has the diamond?
Simon: No, no, no. I've got the diamond right here with the paperwork.
Slade: So, waste the old man, and let's get out of here.
Are you going to shoot him, or do i have to?
Simon: Hey, hey, have you met his daughter?
Slade: Big mouth, bad attitude.
Simon: Yeah, that's all. But also, she's loaded. So is her mother. I say we up the ante.
Slade: I've never known you to be greedy, Donovan.
Simon: She would do anything to get the old man back. You and I, we could walk away with another million.
Slade: This guy won't last that long.
Simon: Yeah, but they don't have to know that, do they?
Slade: Fine. You go make 'em the offer. I'll take care of good-old Joe.
Simon: Change of plan. I take Joe, and you get out of here while you still can.
Slade: You think I'm gonna let you go with my diamond? You really think I'd hand you a loaded gun? Mr. Frasier? Now, why don't you both have a seat?
Joe: Please, do what he says.
Slade: See? Even half-dead, he saw through your act. Now hand over the diamond, or you'll never see that little, blonde wife of yours again.
Memorial Hospital
Margo: Oh, junior doctor is overreacting.
John: Why wasn't I called?
Katie: I'm sorry. We just really didn't have time.
Chris: Nurse, could you take Detective Hughes into cubicle four? Thanks.
Katie: It's okay, Margo. I'm gonna be with you.
John: Hey, hey, what gives the right to determine treatment to a patient you haven't even been assigned to?!
Bob: Gentlemen, lower the volume, please.
Chris: I understand why Dr. Dixon is upset.
John: Don't you patronize me, young man!
Bob: John.
Chris: It's okay, dad. Abigail and I stopped by to say hi to Margo. And while we were there, she almost passed out. I checked her blood pressure. It had dropped precipitously. So I didn't waste time making a phone call. I just brought her straight in because I thought her symptoms might indicate esophageal bleeding. And you don't fool around with that.
John: Well, good call. Good call.
Chris: Thank you, Dr. Dixon. I'll just go check in and make sure the patient is comfortable.
Bob: John?
John: Look, he did the right thing. What do you want me to say? He did okay.
Bob: Listen, before you talk to Margo, there's something I want you to see.
Katie: See, I told you. No code blues, no tubes and whistles. Just a wheelchair and maybe some new medicine. Okay? Everything's gonna be fine.
Katie: I'm sure everything's fine. Simon needs a lot more than a hurricane to stop him.
Slades Boat
Simon: Let Joe go, and maybe I'll think about it.
Joe: Just give it to him, Simon. Save yourself.
Slade: Sorry, Joe. Simon's a do-gooder. Aren't you, Simon? You wouldn't let anything happen to good-old Joe. Now that's pretty. It's been fun, gentlemen. But I'm afraid we're going to have to say good-bye.
[Grunting]
Simon: All right, all right.
Paul: Hey, hey, hey. Just let him go. Let him go! Just let him go.
Rose: Careful, Paul! Paul? Oh, where is he? Oh, pop! Pop, are you okay.
Joe: Oh, Rose, I've never been so happy to see anybody before.
Lucinda: Why Henry, thank you. How's he doing?
Rose: He's got a fever. He needs to drink some water.
Joe: Whatever you say, Rosie.
Lucinda: Joe, we're gonna get you out of here.
Rose: It's all right. It's all right.
Simon: Look, we've gotta get to Lucinda's plane.
Paul: Not in this storm we're not.
Simon: Well, we've gotta get off the island, now.
Paul: Is this thing sea-worthy?
Simon: Well, she's gonna have to be.
Memorial Hospital
Chris: Dad?
Chris: The alpha-fetoprotein?
Bob: It's positive.
John: The tests indicate that Margo's cancer has progressed.
Chris: You did another C.A.T. Scan?
John: Severe damage.
Katie: You can't just lay news like this on Margo without giving her any options.
John: The options remain the same. Margo needs a new liver, or else she will die.
08-19-02 ... Katie Offers to Become Chopped Liver
Lucinda: Keep bailing! Keep bailing! Pump, kid, pump! Both arms!
Henry: Why don't you call the coast guard? Call aquaman, call somebody! Open the door!
Paul: Looks like the storm's heading northeast.
Simon: All right. Then we head west!
Paul: All right, well, turn. Turn this thing! Turn it!
Simon: I'm fighting the current! It's all right.
Lucinda: Are we gonna have a good chance to get where we wanna go?
Simon: If I can just turn this baby around without flipping her, we'll be all right!
Paul: All right. All right. Watch your starboard! Watch your starboard!
Rose: Open your eyes! Open your eyes! You okay?! Hey, look, you gotta hang in there. You gotta hang in!
Joe: I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Rose: Oh, no. That's it. Don't say anything! Just hold -- please, don't say a word. Just save your strength. Can you do that, please? And no more apologies. Don't worry. I'm getting you out of here. I won't let anybody -- anybody -- take you away from me again.
Paul: All right, all right. Just stay on this heading, and we should avoid the worst of it.
Simon: This storm better not shift, 'cause we're never gonna outrun it.
Paul: Joe? How you hanging in there?
Joe: Please tell Rose to stop worrying about me.
Paul: That's her job, Joe. What do you think we came all the way down here for? Stay strong, baby. I promise I'm gonna get us home, okay?
Rose: Hey!
[Lucinda laughs]
Lucinda: Never a dull moment with us.
Simon: That's just the way we love it.
[Lucinda laughs]
Lucinda: Look! That doesn't look good. Come about. Come about.
Simon: No, no, no. No, no, no, no. If we get hit broadside, then we'll capsize the boat. We need to go straight, ride this out.
Paul: All right, is everybody okay?
Rose: Yeah, yeah.
Simon: Come on! Is that the best you got!
[Lucinda laughs]
[Electricity crackles]
Simon: Don't do this to me. Don't -- oh, damn!
Lucinda: Are they gonna come on again?
Simon: All right, the generator shorted out. We're taking on too much water. What's Henry doing? What's he doing?
Lucinda: Uh --
[wave crashes]
Henry: Why can't anything ever be easy for me?!
[Henry screams when Donovon appears on board]
"Simon": Not a word.
Memorial Hospital - Outside Margo's Cubicle in ER
Chris: There is one option we haven't considered.
Katie: What?
John: Yes, we know that, Chris, and we've all thought of that.
Abigail: What's going on? What are you talking about?
Chris: A live liver donor transplant.
Bob: This is not the time to go into that, Chris.
Katie: No, wait, hold on. I want to hear this. I've read about this. The live donor can give part of their liver to the patient, right?
John: That's pretty much the way it works.
Katie: I don't care how it works as long as it saves Margo's life.
Bob: This is a procedure that's also dangerous to the donor. Chris, this is real life. This is not a case in a textbook.
Chris: But isn't it an option we have to consider now? Why are we afraid to talk about it?
Bob: Because there's a danger to making it sound simple. No one should ever enter into that procedure without knowing all of the risks.
Katie: Yeah, but we're at the end of the line here. We have no other choice. Dr. Dixon, why are you so quiet all of the sudden?
John: 'Cause I'm racking my brain to try to find some other solution. But I think we are at last-ditch efforts, Bob.
Bob: Then why can't we confer privately instead of thring out procedures in a casual debate?
John: 'Cause I don't think we have time to -- to convene a forum.
Besides, we're debating it the proper way, with the family of the patient.
Bob: A family that consists of the physician, who's also a scared father whose judgment is compromised at best and a sister who's willing to go under the knife without really knowing the ramifications. I don't think that that's really the best climate to make decisions, do you?
Chris: Since when is it a crime to love the life you want to save? I'm going to look in on Margo.
John: You know, he's right.
Katie: All right. You need a volunteer, right? Somebody whose blood type matches? Mine probably matches. Let's go. Let's take my blood.
Bob: Katie, I don't want you barreling into this procedure without knowing all of the risks involved.
Katie: Do you really think I care? If it's about Margo, I will risk anything.
Bob: Even if I tell you that at times, in rare cases, the live liver donor dies in the process? Are you willing to die, Katie?
Memorial Hospital - Margo's Cubicle in ER
Chris: He's on his way.
Margo: Okay. Chris, tell me what's happening.
Chris: We're waiting for a liver donor to come through.
Margo: And if not? Okay.
Outside Margo's Cubicle
Bob: Yes, it's rare. But if there's a chance that you might not survive the surgery, you've got to know that. So think about it.
John: That's a hell of a way to sell this.
Katie: No, no. It's something that I need to hear.
John: Yes. Let me tell you something. Less than 1% of healthy donors die from this procedure. Now, if you're trying to scare her out of saving her sister's life, we might as well sign Margo's death certificate now.
Tom: So what's this about? Where is Margo?
John: Okay, Tom. She's hanging in there. We're going to prep her for surgery just in case a liver donor comes through.
Tom: So there's still nothing from the transplant network?
John: No, there's not, but there's something else that we're considering, and I want to run this by you. Rather than a cadaveric liver, we're thinking in terms of a live liver donor transplant.
Tom: Well, John, I'd do it in a second, but you know that Margo and I don't share the same blood type.
John: Katie might be a match. We haven't decided yet.
Katie: Dr. Hughes, you asked me if I was willing to risk the transplant, and I didn't get a chance to answer you. I can't imagine not doing it, even if I have to die trying.
Off the Coast of Avanya
"Simon": Shut your mouth.
Henry: Okay!
"Simon": I want the diamond.
Henry: It's -- it's probably washed over, 'cause the waves took it. I don't know. It's the darnedest thing.
"Simon": Or I'm gonna kill you now just for lying and then search your pockets.
Henry: Help! Help! Help! Help! [Banging at door] Help, help!
Lucinda: Okay. All right, all right. [Lucinda lets Henry in]
Henry: Can't anyone hear me screaming out there?!
Lucinda: Go on, get out. Go, go on out.
Henry: He -- he's here! He's back! He's back!
Simon: Who? Who? Henry, relax. Who?
[Shouting over each other]
Rose: Okay, okay.
[Talking over each other]
Simon: I've got him, I've got him. Take the wheel. Take the wheel. Lock the door when I leave, okay?
Henry: Wait, wait, wait, wait. Okay? 'Cause if you go out there, and he kills you, and then he comes back in here, and we think that he is you --
Simon: Shh!
Henry: And it'll be like some horror movie, and he'll slay all of us!
Simon: You have to kill the first Simon that walks back in that door.
Henry: All right -- what?!
Simon: Or just remember what I'm wearing, all right?
On the Deck
Simon: You just ran out of lives.
"Simon": What's the matter? You don't like the fact that the plastic surgeon made me better looking than you?
Simon: Yeah, well, I hope you have as much luck with your mortician.
[Waves crashing]
[Simon and Donovan struggle on the deck of the boat and both go overboard]
Inside the Cabin
Rose: Paul, what are you doing?! What are you doing?!
Paul: Saving Simon's life if he's still alive.
Rose: No!
On the Deck
Simon: Over here!
Paul: Where are you, Simon?!
Simon: Down here.
Paul: Come on.
Henry: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait!
Paul: What, what?
Henry: Simon said to remember his clothes.
Paul: So?!
Henry: So this guy's wearing the same thing! We don't know who's who!
Memorial Hospital - Margo's Cubicle in ER
Chris: No.
Margo: Thanks. Thanks for being honest.
Outside Margo's Cubicle
John: No, no. I -- I think we've got to hold off on that until we've started the blood work with Katie.
Bob: John, can I have a word with you?
John: Sure, sure.
Jack: Hey. I haven't heard much. What's the story?
Tom: You know what? I'm -- I'm gonna let Katie fill you in. I'm gonna -- I'm gonna hop in, look in on Margo.
Jack: Well, how is she? Did they find a donor?
Katie: Hey. Have you heard anything from Simon?
Jack: The coast guard's tracking a boat that left Avanya. Simon and the others may be on it, which would be good news if there wasn't a hurricane bearing down on them.
[Katie groans]
Katie: I wish I could have told them about Margo. There just wasn't time.
Jack: What, you didn't get a chance to explain why you were leaving?
Katie: No. Lucinda and Rose had to tell him after I left.
I didn't even get to kiss my husband good-bye, and now I don't know how he's gonna get home or what he's gonna find if he does.
Jack: Well, you didn't answer my question.
Katie: What?
Jack: About the liver donor.
Katie: It's me.
Jack: Come again?
Katie: I'm gonna donate part of my liver to Margo. It's just no one seems too eager about it.
Bob: Margo's your daughter, but you know I love her, too.
John: I know. What, that's not gonna cloud your judgment, only mine?
Bob: Look, this procedure is unbelievably complex, even for a specialist.
John: Then whoever we get better be damn good!
Bob: Plus the fact, if we allow Katie to go into this procedure, her husband doesn't know anything about it.
John: Oh, Bob, that's not in our control. This guy is out of the country. We can't find him anywhere. Our bottom line is time. We don't have any of that. So either we're gonna get the specialist, and we're gonna do this procedure, or else she's gonna die.
Bob: She could still die even with the procedure, John. Yeah, we have the facilities. We don't have the track record. Okay, let's do it. I'll start the blood work on Katie, and if she doesn't match, we'll look at the rest of the family.
John: Listen, I owe you one.
Bob: If they both survive, we're even.
John: All right.
Katie: What did he say?
John: Huh? If you're healthy, and you meet the criteria, we're gonna give it everything we've got.
Off the Coast of Avanya
Lucinda: We don't want the wrong one. We don't want the monster.
[Lucinda grabs Simon and kisses him]
Lucinda: It's him.
[Lucinda laughs]
Rose: Lucinda, how do you know?! How do you know?!
Lucinda: Oh, honey, it's him.
Simon: Excuse me?
Rose: Hey, hey, everybody. Everybody, l straight ahead, I can see the moon.
[Shouting]
Henry: One for you. One for you.
[Lucinda laughs]
Rose: Hey, look. I told ya, pop! Told you we were people that could survive this.
Memorial Hospital - Margo's Cubicle in ER
Margo: Oh, look, it's the Marx brothers.
John: We have made some decisions here.
Margo: Yeah? Do I get to live?
John: There's a procedure called a live liver donor transplant. This is where a compatible donor gives a portion of his or her healthy liver to the patient.
Margo: A live donor?
John: Yes.
Margo: Who?
John: We've started a blood work-up on Katie to see if she's compatible.
Katie: I'm your donor. Hey, don't say I never gave you anything. I'd give you my heart if I had to. What's a little piece of liver?
Margo: So, how dangerous is this?
Katie: It's like getting your tonsils out.
Margo: No, no, no. How dangerous?
John: It's a -- it's a complex procedure.
Margo: No.
Katie: Margo, please.
Margo: Go home.
Tom: Your sister wants to talk to you. Accept this. I need you to stay with me and your children. I know it may seem selfish, but it is worth the risk.
Margo: When I said go home, I meant you, too.
Off the Coast of Avanya
Henry: I'm really good in a pinch. It's just afterwards, I toss my cookies. I'm polite that way.
Simon: Yeah? Well, grab a bucket, sunshine. Let's get some of this water out of here. We'll clear the generator out, dry it off, and then we'll have power again.
Henry: Hallelujah.
Rose: How ya doing, pop? Huh?
Joe: Take a look at all those little lights. For a couple of moments there, I didn't know if I'd ever see a sight like that again.
Rose: And now you've got the rest of your life to look at all those beautiful stars.
Joe: It's all that clear space. You know what it makes me think about?
Rose: What's that?
Joe: Napoli.
Rose: Oh! Yeah, when you were a little boy?
Joe: Out there in the countryside, you took a good look up, and there was this curtain -- curtain of stars hanging all the way down to the ground. Sometimes, when I'm sitting on my stoop in jersey and looking up at the sky, I know that my people in Naples are looking at the same things I'm looking at. I miss 'em, Rose.
Rose: You'll see 'em again, pop. You will.
Paul: Joe, I didn't know you were a stargazer.
Joe: Huh?
Paul: Isn't that -- yeah, yeah, that's it. Cephus, king of Ethiopia.
Rose: Am I -- am I missing something here?
Joe:You're smooth.
Rose: What? I get a little hint? What's going on?
Paul: The king's daughter was the most beautiful woman in the world, and Perseus, the hero, saved the King's life, and as a reward, he gave Perseus his daughter.
Joe: I'm not a king, but I got a good-looking daughter. And you're a hero in my book, Paul. I'm gonna give her to you on the wedding day.
Rose: Hey. You know, I -- I really can't concentrate on much of anything, I mean, especially a wedding, until you're playing bocce ball again every Saturday.
[Joe coughs]
Joe: I'm not letting you spend any more time on me, especially not in New Jersey.
Paul: All right. Then how about Napoli? I mean, I'm gonna have Rose for the rest of my life. I'll let her have some time off to get you back on your feet.
Rose: You know what? Stop it, stop it. Stop talking. Just relax. You've been talking too much. You just calm down until we get you to the hospital.
Paul: Joe, I wouldn't argue with her if I were you.
Rose: Come on.
[Lucinda sighs]
Lucinda: Well done again. Well done, well done.
Simon: Well I won't be happy till we're off this bloody boat.
Lucinda: Now, don't you worry about Katie. Katie is just fine. God protects lunatics and drunkards.
Henry: Comrades in arms. Hey, who would have thought we would have made it through this whole thing without killing one another?
Lucinda: Count yourself lucky.
Simon: Yeah, let's not start now.
Henry: Hey, I am gonna count my luck. You know, Lucinda.
Lucinda: Yes?
Henry: I'm a modest man, but I do think that I -- I do think that I deserve some kind of compensation for all of this. I'm not talking about a lot of zeroes here, but --
Lucinda: Okay. You can start tomorrow.
Henry: "Start"?
Lucinda: Yeah. Yeah, your new job. You'd get the zeroes. You've got the zeroes, only I'm going to wring the blood, sweat and tears out of you to make it worth my while.
Rose: How did you know that I wanted to take my pop to Napoli?
Paul: I know you. I look in those eyes, and I see everything.
Rose: And I love you for that. But I know we were supposed to get married and everything, and I just don't know if I can think about that right now.
Paul: I know. Just let your father get back on his feet, and then we'll take everything from there, okay?
Rose: I don't deserve you.
Paul: [looking at the diamond] I never really saw that up-close. It's beautiful.
Rose: Oh, yeah. It's beautiful, all right. It's covered in blood. It's caused more misery than I can even think about.
Paul: Well, it's still your birthright.
Rose: Yeah, you know, but you know, even a multimillion-dollar rock is not worth it. It's got nothing to do with my family. I've got a great arm. You ever see it?
Paul: No.
Rose: Oh, yeah. That.
Paul: What?
[Water splashes as Rose throws the diamond into the ocean]
Memorial Hospital - Margo's Cubicle in ER
Katie: Do you have any concept of how much I love you? Everybody that was just in this room loves you so much, and you can't change that. And you can't stop me from doing this, because if I didn't have you in my life -- I would only have half a life. So I'll just have half a liver instead, okay? And even then, we still won't be even. I get to be the big sis now, big sis. What I say goes, and we're going through with this operation.
08-20-02 ... At Last the Aussie and the Transvestite Bond ... For A Second or Two
Margo: No, I'm not letting you go through with this, Katie.
Katie: Margo, you're my sister. I love you.
Margo: Well, who's gonna help you make decisions? If Simon were here, he would never let you put yourself at risk like this.
Katie: Oh, come on. Who are you kidding? Mr. "Let's find the most dangerous place in the world and go there"? He'd sell tickets.
Margo: He wouldn't even let you go to Avanya.
Katie: Huh?
John: How's my worst patient?
Margo: I'm not your patient. I'm your daughter. Tell Katie the answer is no.
John: Actually, Katie is a perfect match. The lab work confirms it.
Katie: Really? All right. So how soon can I give this cranky patient my liver?
Margo: Absolutely not.
John: Listen -- Katie is well aware of the risks.
Margo: John, I'm well aware of the risks, as well. There will be no operation. No live donor. No putting my sister at risk. No. End of the discussion. No.
Hal: She asleep?
Katie: No, just sulking. Hal's here. He wants to visit. Be nice.
Margo: Are they gone?
Hal: Coast is clear.
[Margo sighs]
Margo: I know that Katie means well
Hal: Well, Katie is Katie. Right? How are you feeling?
Margo: Well, Hal, I'm not quite the dance partner I once was. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be on your honeymoon?
Hal: Well, we didn't want to push things. And besides, you know, we're a little bit shorthanded. We thought maybe we'd put it off until you got back on your feet.
Margo: Let me look at those eyes. Come here.
Hal: What?
Margo: Let me look at those eyes.
Hal: What?
Margo: What is it? What's wrong?
Hal: What is this? The famous Hughes technique?
Margo: Yeah, it is. I always get my man. What's wrong?
Hal: I'm worried about Will. Barbara's got him. And I really want him back.
Hal: I let Barbara take Will because I know her. She was spoiling for a fight.
Margo: So get her alone and make her see that Will needs both his parents and that a custody battle just hurts everyone.
Hal: I don't wanna put him through that.
Margo: So tell -- help her --
[coughing]
Hal: Hang on. Here. Martini. I'm worried about you, Margo.
Margo: Hmm, well, get in line, Hal.
Outside Margo's Cubicle
John: No, no, I am not proceeding with a live donor transplant without the recipient's consent.
I thank you for the offer, though, Katie.
Tom: What John is saying is that Margo has to know that the liver is coming from you, and she has to agree to accept it.
Katie: Yeah, right. She's not gonna agree to anything that she knows is gonna hurt me. And we can't argue with her. We don't wanna tire her out.
John: We're getting ahead of ourselves here. And it's my fault. I've been so eager to find a solution, I haven't been objective. And I haven't been fair to you, Katie. We're talking about major surgery to a crucial organ. We're talking about a month of post-op pain. We're talking about exhaustion.
Katie: Yeah, yeah, yeah, let's just get started. All right? We can still look for another liver. In the meantime, doesn't it make sense to start the tests, get me going so I can be plan "B" if we need a plan "B"?
Tom: Katie Frasier. Plan "B." John, do the paperwork. I'm gonna talk to her.
John: Come on, Katie. Let's go.
Jack: How is she?
Tom: She's the same. Were you about to reach Kim?
Jack: Yeah. She's got Casey. He's fine. I left Adam a message, told him that you'd call him later.
Tom: Well, thank you, Jack.
Jack: Hey, it'll be okay.
Tom: Yeah, well, I've never felt more helpless. She's lying in there, and I'm -- I'm out here wearing out the linoleum.
[Hal walks out of the cubicle]
Hal: Right now, Tom, that's your job.
Tom: Well, it's not where I planned to be, Hal. Trust me. I was actually headed to court to have that custody order reversed for you. Hal, how is Will, by the way?
Hal: He's fine. And I don't want you to worry about that. There's more than one way to skin that cat. Right now, Tom, you belong with Margo.
Tom: Thank you. I'm gonna go talk to her.
Jack: She's getting worse, isn't she?
Tom: Yes, she is. Can you hang out here for awhile, Jack? I wanna go see Will.
Jack: You got it.
Hal: Thanks.
Inside Margo's Cubicle
Tom: I need you to do something for me.
Margo: Anything.
Tom: I need you. Casey needs you. Adam needs you. Please -- say yes to Katie. Save your life.
Tom: You know, it is okay to help yourself.
Margo: I know that.
Tom: Do you? We're down to the wire here, honey. Tomorrow, you and Katie could be on the mend or -- you could be dying.
Margo: I need to think.
Tom: Okay. Okay.
Outside Margo's Cubicle
Tom: Okay, Jack. I'll do that. I'll just -- I'll just take a walk.
Carly: Jack. The Coast Guard just called.
Jack: Wait a minute. Slow down.
Carly: They're fine. They're safe. They're all safe. Lucinda and Paul and Simon, they're safe.
They're on a coast guard cutter. They're headed for home.
Jack: It's about time we had some good news.
Carly: And Margo? How is she?
Jack: Not good. But Katie's stepped up to the plate.
Carly: Katie?
Jack: She volunteered to donate part of her liver, and she's a match.
Carly: Katie? Craig's sister, Katie? Simon's wife? Blonde, nutty?
Jack: Courageous. It's not an easy ride, this operation.
Carly: Hey, Katie.
Katie: Hi.
Carly: Simon's safe. I just got a call from the coast guard.
Katie: My Simon.
Carly: Yes. And Lucinda and Rose, everybody.
Katie: Oh, good. I knew he'd be okay. He's always okay. But I just got so scared.
Jack: You know what? I'll get a call patched through to the cutter so you can talk to him. And you're gonna wanna tell him about Margo and what you plan to do.
Katie: No, you know, the most important thing is that he's safe. I'll talk to him when he gets back home.
Inside Margo's Cubicle
Katie: Guess what? The coast guard found Simon and Lucinda and Rose, everybody. And they're bringing them home.
Margo: Oh, thank god. I know how worried you were.
Katie: Of course. If I'd lost Simon, I'd feel like Tom if he lost you.
Margo: Oh -- you are so stubborn.
Katie: Me? What about you?
Margo: So, Katie, now -- you know where Simon is, so you can talk to him and explain everything about the -- about the transplant and see what he thinks.
Katie: I know what he'll think.
Margo: Talk to him. You tell him the risks. He's got to approve.
Katie: Margo, listen, I know Simon. If he had a brother who was sick, he would do anything to save him. So he'll understand. I know it.
Margo: Maybe, maybe.
Katie: Look who he married -- me.
I've been swimming with sharks and I starved on an island and I got almost gunned down in Malta. I'm just as adventurous as he is.
Margo: Honey, this isn't a competition. It's a marriage.
Katie: I know. Hey, we wouldn't even be together if it weren't for you. And Craig? I think he probably would've been strangled by now. Although he probably would've deserved it. And mama? Nobody would even be talking to her. She'd be all alone. And Tom -- he wouldn't even have his practice. He'd probably be teaching night school.
Margo: No, he couldn't, not if he'd have to stay up past 9:00, huh-uh.
Katie: We need you. I need you. Actually, this is pretty much a selfish act for me, because I don't wanna let you go.
Margo: Don't cry. Don't you cry, Katie, dear. Don't you cry.
Katie: We're gonna get through this surgery. We're gonna live forever, and that's final. I love you. I'll see you soon.
Margo: Katie.
Outside Margo's Cubicle
Katie: Hi.
Carly: So how's it going?
Katie: Oh, everything's fine.
Carly: Good.
Katie: What's goin' on?
Carly: Jack's just trying to get through to the Coast Guard.
Jack: Yeah, they're almost ready to patch me through. I'm sorry -- say again?
Carly: Hey, Katie?
Katie: Hmm?
Carly: If Jack gets the connection, then you can talk to Simon. You can tell him what's going on.
John: Katie -- I spoke with Dr. Bartlett in Chicago, the expert in live donor surgery that I talked to you about. He can be here on short notice. Have you made a decision?
Katie: I'm ready when he is.
John: Okay. At the risk of repeating myself, thank you very much for saving my daughter.
Katie: Simon will understand this.
Carly: Katie -- Simon should know what's going on.
Katie: I know. But if somebody doesn't help Margo, she's gonna die.
Carly: Well, why does that somebody have to be you? Why can't it be her brother? Has anybody called Craig and asked him to give up a lobe or two? Who knows? It could be the best thing that could ever happen to him.
Memorial Hospital - Margo's Cubicle in ER
Tom: Thank you.
Margo: Tom, if anything happens to her
Tom: She's gonna be fine. Everything's gonna be fine.
Outside Margo's Cubicle
Carly: Hey, Katie, I admire what you're doing. You have a lot of courage. But Simon should know about this. Even if you're not asking him, even if you're telling him, he should know. He's your husband.
Jack: Katie? Say hi to Simon.
Katie: Oh. Simon, is it really you?
08-21-02 ... Simon Gets the Night Off ... Whether He Wants It or Not
Margo: When was the last time you slept in a bed, Tom? Why don't you go home? I'm fine.
I'm sure Casey could use having his dad around.
Tom: Well, I will do that, but there's something we need to talk about first.
Margo: What? What's wrong?
Tom: Some papers came to the head nurse that require your signature, and she asked that I deliver them to you.
Margo: What papers?
Tom: This is a living will and a "do not resuscitate" order. I just wonder why I didn't know about this.
Nurse's Desk Outside Margo's Cubicle
Simon: No one's voice ever sounded so sweet.
Katie: You too, sweetheart. Where are you?
Simon: In probably one of the ugliest government buildings you're ever likely to see.
You know what the best part is? Everything I touch is marked with "property of the United States of America."
Katie: You're back? In the states? Where?
Simon: I'm in Florida. Just until we get clear immigration, and then I'm gonna be home to you.
Katie: When?
Simon: Soon as we cut through all the red tape. Tomorrow, maybe a few days later. Katie?
Katie: I'm sorry. I'm here. I'm just happy you're back.
Simon: Look, when I found out that you had left Avanya
Katie: I know. I'm so sorry that I left without telling you.
Simon: Look, I heard about Margo. How is she?
Katie: She's sick. She's really sick.
Simon: She's tough. She's gonna be all right. Isn't she?
Katie: I think so. She's having an operation tomorrow that we're hoping will save her life. I wish you were here right now.
Simon: Me, too, baby. Me, too.
Katie: Simon, there's something about this operation that I need to tell you.
Simon: Five minutes! Listen, I'm about to be debriefed. In case I get yanked away, I love you so much. I was worried sick when I found out that you left Avanya. I was just so afraid that you weren't gonna get out of the country. I don't ever wanna go through that again.
Katie: Me neither.
Simon: So what were you gonna say about this operation?
Katie: Oh, nothing. Just listen -- don't worry about me, please. I'm fine. I'm just fine.
Memorial Hospital - Margo's Cubicle in ER
Tom: Well, if something happens to you, our lives will be one long head-on collision, and you can't spare us from that.
Margo: Honey, I didn't do this because I thought that you wouldn't honor my wishes.
I just simply did it because the hospital needs something in writing. It's important legally if someone -- I mean, you know me. I don't even leave the house unless I know that everything's
Tom: Well, legally
legally, you did a wise thing.
Margo: I love you. I love you, and I love our babies.
Tom: I know.
Margo: I just would never have you go through what I went through with Katie's dad. Nobody should have to go through that.
Tom: All right, then I guess you should, uh -- you should sign these. Go ahead, do it. Then we can talk something more important like, you know, the weather or sports. Okay, I will -- I'll take these back to the head nurse. Then they can include it in your chart.
Margo: Okay. Thank you.
Tom: You bet.
Nurse's Station Outside Margo's Cubicle
Simon: Listen, as soon as I find out what flight I'm on, I'll give you a call. Are you staying at The Lakeview?
Katie: No, actually, I think I'm gonna stay here tonight, at the hospital.
Simon: Is it really that bad?
Katie: Margo needs me. Tom has to stay with Casey tonight, and I know she doesn't want to be alone.
Simon: So where are you gonna sleep?
Katie: A chair or something. Hey, it'll be better than the bed I slept on in Avanya, right? So, you'll leave all of your flight information with Craig?
Simon: Can you come and pick me up from the airport?
Katie: Yeah -- yeah, I'll be there.
Simon: I can't wait to see you, okay? And give Margo a big kiss for me, please. Love you, baby -- so much.
Katie: Me, too. Me, too. Okay, you better get to that debriefing. Bye. [hangs up and turns to Tom] Hey, listen, the coast guard found Simon and Rose and Lucinda, and they're all heading back. Isn't that great?
Tom: Yeah, I heard. I didn't just hear you lying to Simon about what you're doing here, did I?
Katie: He was so happy and relieved to know that I got back okay. I didn't want to throw him back into worrying again.
Tom: Well, he's gonna know tomorrow.
Katie: I know, so I gave him the night off. And listen, by the time he gets back, all of this will be done and everything will be just fine.
[Katie falls into Tom's arms crying]
Memorial Hospital - Surgical Ward
Tom: Hi, Holden.
Holden: Hey, they told me downstairs that Margo was up here on this floor.
Tom: Yeah, she and Katie are getting settled into their room right now.
Holden: Katie? Why Katie?
Tom: Katie's donating a portion of her liver to Margo tomorrow. We're just - we're hoping this is the answer.
Holden: I'm sorry. I didn't know. I knew she was sick, but I didn't realize that
Tom: Yeah, she's in the final stage of liver disease. So if her body rejects this transplant, then -- then I'm not even gonna go there.
Holden: Well, if there's anything Lily and I can do, you just let us know, okay? Hey, if Casey wants to come out to the house for a while
Tom: Well, thanks, but Casey says that he wants to stay at home. In fact, I told him I was gonna come pick him up so he could say good night to his mom in case, so -- I'm gonna run and do that now.
Holden: Uh, Tom, Aaron told me that you found him inside your house.
Tom: Yeah, it was actually much more than that.
Margo and Katie's Room
Margo: Oh, no, no. I never want to hear that word again.
Katie: Oh, god, no. I'm not talking about one of those ones that Rose and those girls were at. This is more like that one in Pennsylvania where everything's made out of chocolate. The wraps, the facials and the food. And our guys are there as the spa attendants, filling our every desire.
[Laughs] but in the meantime,
we are gonna clear our minds of all stressful thoughts by watching a little Cartoon Network.
Margo: Ah.
Dr. Bartlett: Margo Hughes? Kathryn Frasier? I'm Dr. Bartlett. I'll be supervising the teams that will be performing your surgeries tomorrow.
Katie: We actually prefer to think of them as chocolate wraps.
Margo: Um, thank you for making time in your schedule, Dr. Bartlett. I know that it's very tight.
Dr. Bartlett: We got the results from Mrs. Frasier's MRI. It's a good match. Now I'd like to tell you what's gonna happen tomorrow.
Dr. Bartlett: And you, Mrs. Frasier, should expect to be in the hospital a week or so after the procedure. You'll have some pain and obviously a scar.
The risks are the same as with any surgical procedure -- technical complications from the operation, infection, internal bleeding, things of that nature.
Margo: And my risks are?
Dr. Bartlett: The same, with the addition of the possibility of rejection. It's slight, but it's there nonetheless.
Margo: Anything else? Guys, I just want to know it all, okay?
Dr. Bartlett: There's jaundice. There's the chance that your arteries will clot off where the new tissue is grafted. And last but not least, there is the possibility your new liver won't
Margo: Oh, I see.
Dr. Bartlett: But as long as there are no bleeding problems and the artery and vein grafts then, the odds are very good for a full recovery.
Margo: So then I won't have Hepatitis C anymore, huh?
Dr. Bartlett: You'll still have it, we'll just be able to treat it.
Margo: But I -- I won't die.
Dr. Bartlett: Precisely. Your liver will no longer be damaged.
Katie: And when tomorrow do you think we'll have the surgery?
Dr. Bartlett: That remains to be determined. You'll hear from me as soon as I know.
[The Doctor leaves the room]
Katie: Bet he's a lot of fun at a party.
Margo: Well, at least we don't have to see him again until we're under anesthesia. You scared, baby?
Katie: No, not really. I'm actually fine.
Margo: Yeah. Me, too.
Kim: Your mom and Lisa both send their love, and they'll be here when you get out of surgery.
Bob: Dr. Bartlett is one of the finest living organ transplant surgeon in the country. You're in wonderful hands.
John: I will check in with you before the surgery, and I'll be there when you get out. I love you.
Margo: I love you, too, dad.
John: Okay. Thank you, Katie.
Bob: Big day tomorrow. Good luck.
Kim: All my love and prayers. Love you both. You know, everything's gonna be okay. You have to trust me on this, because I'm never wrong about these things.
Margo: Well, you'd better not be.
[Kim, Bob & John walk into the hallway]
Kim: John?
John: Yes, yes. I'm just
Kim: Yeah. Margo's got a lot going for her.
John: Yeah.
[Inside Margo's Room Tom and Casey are saying good night]
Margo: So listen, I'm gonna be really zonked out after the surgery, so your dad's gonna call you and tell you how it went
Casey: Okay. Are you scared?
Margo: Yeah, a little. But the surgeon said that Katie and I are an excellent match, and that's very, very important. What about you? Are you scared?
Casey: Uh, yeah, a little.
Tom: I'll be right here with you, buddy.
Margo: Do you remember when you were a little kid, and you had all those bad dreams? And I would song that song to you. It always worked.
Casey: Yeah, that. The one about, "Hush Little Baby" or something? Don't say a word mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird.
Katie: I that song. The kid was always getting things bought.
[Laughter]
Margo: So, Casey, if you get the heebie-jeebies tonight when you're going to bed, you just -- you really sing that song to you and know that I'm here thinking about you, and I'm holding you tight in my heart. Come here, baby.
Nurse: Time for your medications, ladies.
Tom: Okay. Casey and I are gonna get out of here. I'll let you two get some rest. I'll be waiting for you. I will be the first face you see when you open your eyes tomorrow morning.
Casey: Thank you -- for my mom's life.
Margo: Oh, baby, come here. I love you.
Tom: That goes double for me.
Katie: I love you, too.
Tom: I love you, too. Okay.
Nurse: This is an antibiotic, and this one will help you sleep. Would you two like the lights off?
Margo: Yeah, sure. Yeah.
Katie: What are you thinking about?
Margo: I was just remembering when mama first told me that she was pregnant with you and how embarrassed I was that my ancient mother was going to have a baby. And now I realize that -- it's the biggest gift she ever gave me. And not just because of tomorrow, Katie.
Katie: Margo, the surgery's gonna go just fine.
Margo: Yeah, yeah. From your mouth to God's ears, yeah.
Katie: And then we'll wake up, and our spa guys will be there.
Margo: Is Simon coming?
Katie: Yeah. He might be home tomorrow.
Margo: Oh, wow. I didn't know. I didn't know. That's great, Katie. So you got a chance to talk to him, huh?
Katie: Yeah.
Margo: And he's okay about you and the transplant?
Katie: Totally fine with it.
Margo: That's good. That's good, because I was -- I was kind of getting bugged that he didn't know anything about it. You know what? That pill is kicking in. I think -- I think I'll go to sleep.
Katie: Okay.
Margo: I love you, Katie. Good night.
Katie: Good night. [Margo turns over to go to sleep and Katie sings to her sister]
Hush, little baby don't say a word mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird
and if that mockingbird don't sing mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring
and if that diamond ring turns brass mama's gonna buy you a looking glass
08-22-02 ... A Request From the Heart for Craig
Lily: Oh
Sierra: Why don't you get that? And I'll get the muffins.
Lily: Okay. Okay. Hello?
Katie: Lily, it's Katie. Any word on the ETA of Lucinda's jet?
Lily: The last I heard they were still stuck in going through customs. What are you doing on the phone? Aren't you supposed to be in surgery?
Katie: Not soon enough. They've delayed things a little bit.
Lily: Oh, all right, I'll be sure to give Simon the message. I'm sure he's gonna want to see you before you go in.
Katie: No, no, no, no. No messages, please. You know, it's just something that I want to talk to Simon about in person. Anyway, I'll have someone pick him up from the airport, so don't worry, okay? Thanks. Here's Tom.
Tom: Thanks. Hi, Lily. How are you?
Lily: I'm fine. How's Margo doing?
Tom: She wanted me to thank you for the care package you sent over for Casey and me. You're a real lifesaver.
Lily: I just wish there was more I could do.
Tom: Just -- just send us your prayers. Oh, and by the way, tell Holden not to worry about that Aaron thing.
It's no big deal. It just caught me off-guard.
Lily: What "Aaron thing"?
Tom: Well, it's no big deal, like I said. I caught him in the house when no one was there.
Lily: Doing what?
Tom: You know what? Margo's doctor just walked in, so remember to tell Holden. Look, everybody's under a lot of stress. Why should the kids be any different, right? Listen, I gotta run.
Lily: Okay, give Margo my love. [Hangs up]
Sierra: I heard you say something about Aaron. Is everything all right?
Lily: Yeah. Everything's fine.
Memorial Hospital - Margo & Katie's Room
Margo: Wow, you still can't count, Craig.
Craig: [Takes note that Sierra and Lucy are also in the room] So I stand corrected. My four favorite females.
Margo: Great. Just great. A little weak in the knees, but great.
Lucy: You know, I want to get something for Aunt Katie and Aunt Margo downstairs.
Katie: Oh, good idea. Give her $50. Go downstairs and get every issue -- every September issue of every magazine they have on the rack. And be swift.
Lucy: Are you coming, mom?
Craig: She'll be with you in a minute. We have something to discuss.
Sierra: I have already said everything I needed to say.
Craig: Yeah, to Rosanna. But you still have to talk to me. Did you tell Rosanna you slept with me in Montega?
Sierra: Yes, I did. Margo, Katie, I will leave you in the brilliant hands of your doctors. We'll see you in recovery. Sweet dreams.
Margo: Thank you, Sierra.
Katie: Thanks.
Craig: Sierra --
Katie: I am going stir crazy. I gotta get out of here. [Gets out of bed and leaves the room]
Margo: Don't let Dr. Bartlett catch ya.
Katie: Oh, I have the uniform. I'll blend.
[Margo moaning]
Craig: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Come on.
Margo: Okay.
Craig: All right?
Margo: Man, poor Katie. She just -- you know how much she hates hospitals. And she's so worried about Simon. And we keep getting delayed.
Craig: Well, I'll make sure he gets here as soon as he gets out of the airport, all right? Now I have a favor to ask you.
Margo: Oh, sure. Anything I can help out with.
Craig: Don't die on me.
Margo: I'm not going anywhere, little brother. I'm not done with you yet.
Memorial Hospital - Nurses' Station outside Margo & Katie's Room
Katie: Craig? Craig? Come here.
Craig: What's with all the subterfuge?
Katie: If my doctors see me out of my bed, they're gonna strap me in until slice-and-dice time.
And I need to talk to you. I need your help.
Craig: Anything.
Katie: Okay. You know Simon's on his way home, right?
Craig: Yes, I'll get him here as soon as he lands.
Katie: No, no, no, no! I don't want him anywhere near here.
Craig: Well, how am I gonna stop him?
Katie: I don't know, but you have to. Simon doesn't know that I'm going through with this operation. And if he finds out, he's gonna try to stop me. And if he stops me, then we lose Margo. And I'm not gonna let that happen, okay?
Craig: Well, does Margo know Simon doesn't know?
Katie: No. And they can't find out until Margo's in the clear. All right? Please, Craig, just don't let Simon anywhere near this place.
Craig: Simon knows Margo's sick. This is the first place he'll look.
Katie: I don't know. Just stall him or something. Or lie to him. I don't know, just do --
Dr. Bartlett: Mrs. Frasier? Are you forgetting you're supposed to be in bed, following doctor's orders?
Katie: I'm on my way.
Dr. Bartlett: I'll escort you there personally.
Katie: Just as soon as my dear, wonderful, only brother in the world promises to do me this one little thing. Please, Craig? If you have a sudden attack of conscience right when the only truly decent person in this family's life is on the line, I'll never forgive you.
Dr. Bartlett: Mrs. Frasier?
Katie: One second. Can I count on you?
Craig: Anything for my sisters.
Katie: Okay, good. I will never forget this.
Craig: I know. All right, go on.
Katie: I love you.
Craig: Yeah.
Craig: [to Katie as she leaves] I hope your husband will forgive me.
08-23-02 ... One Look at His Face
Katie: Oh, I'm sorry. But you have to suffer for beauty.
Margo: This is beauty?
Katie: Yeah, you're gonna have this gorgeous hairdo when you come out of surgery.
Margo: Hey, careful. They're not gonna let us keep these in.
Katie: Well, actually, they will. You know that guy Bobby from transport?
Margo: Yeah, the guy who takes us down for testing?
Margo: That's where you got these things?
Katie: Yeah, she gave us these cool little plastic clips and they should be fine.
Margo: Oh, well. Okay, okay, okay, Katie. Well, you are amazing.
Katie: Ah, yes, she finally admits it. You're gonna have this hot new look to go with your new liver.
Margo: There's nobody like you, Katie.
Katie: Simon says that a lot.
Margo: Well, speaking of Simon, he should be landed about now, right?
Katie: Yeah, a little while ago.
Margo: Oh good, then -- he's on his way over then, huh?
Lakeview Towers - Craig's Suite
Margo & Katie's Room
Margo: Hmm. How about you, Casey?
Craig: Me, too. This lady says they're ready for you down in surgery.
Tom: Okay, so Adam's on his way. We're trying to track down your mom. She was gonna cancel the cruise, but I talked her into going through with it. So she's somewhere between here and Puerto Rico.
Margo: Oh, please, if you talk to her, please don't worry her with this.
Craig: We'll tell her you're gonna be fine. 'Cause you will be.
Margo: Thanks, guys.
Nurse: I'll be back in a few minutes.
Margo: Oh. So, Case, when I get outta here, we're gonna get your learner's permit, huh?
Casey: Yeah. Will you teach me?
Margo: Sure, I'll teach you everything I know. I'm so glad that you guys -- could see you again before the surgery. I love you, baby.
Casey: I love you, too, mom.
Margo: Honey, could I -- could I have a moment with Craig and Katie, alone?
Tom: Sure. I love you.
Margo: I wouldn't change one second.
Tom: No, not one.
Margo: [takes off her wedding band] Would you -- would you put this in a safe place for me?
Tom: This goes back on your finger right after surgery.
Tom: Honey --
Margo: Just listen, listen -- just -- always remember to listen, especially to Adam. Because he's -- he's so far away, and he -- he thinks he's so grown up.
Casey: Aunt Katie? Thanks. Thank you.
Orderly: Your ride's here, Mrs. Hughes.
Craig: Here, let me help. Watch the IV. Watch the IV. Okay. All right.
Margo: You know what?
Craig: What?
Margo: Craig, I don't think you should give up your day job.
Craig: Thank you.
Katie: We don't even know what that is.
Margo: No. Honey, I gotta tell you something. I wanna thank you for putting together the living will for me. Tom knows about it now, in case we need it, okay?
Craig: We won't, we won't, we won't.
Margo: All right. Just do me one more favor.
Craig: Anything.
Margo: Square things with Lucy, would you, please? Would you please just let her know that she's the most important thing and that you love her? Because, Craig, we don't get this time back.
Craig: Yeah. I will, I will. Now will you stop being a big sister long enough for me to get a word in edgewise?
Margo: Yeah.
Craig: Actually, three words. I love you. Go show them how it's done in the O.R.
Margo: Oh, you got it. You got it.
Craig: All right.
Margo: And, Katie
Katie: Yes, I know. We'll compare scars later.
Margo: Okay. Okay. Let's go. Catch you on the flip-flop, guys.
Katie: We'll be there.
Margo: I love you.
Katie: I love you.
Craig: Simon would wanna be here.
Katie: I know. I just -- if I take one look at his face, I'm gonna chicken out.
Craig: If you have any doubts here --
Katie: No, stop, please. Just hug me.
[Sighs]
Craig: Courage has such a pretty face.
Nurse: Time to get you ready to go down, too.
Katie: Okay.
Craig: All right.
Katie: Love you.
Craig: Love you. Okay.
Hallway Outside
Sierra: I've heard a few of your pep talks. They're pretty good medicine.
Craig: Let me ask you something. If you were in Katie's shoes, who would you want holding your hand?
Sierra: Is that a trick question?
Craig: No, I'm -- all out of tricks.
Sierra: I'd want the man that I had shared my life with there with me. Even after everything we've been through, I'd want you there with me, Craig.
Lakeview Towers - Craig's Suite
Craig: Nah, it's just me.
Simon: Where's Katie? Why didn't she pick me up at the airport?
Craig: Didn't the note -- ?
Simon: Didn't the note explain? No. And why did the driver bring me here instead of the cottage?
Craig: Because that's how Katie wanted it.
Simon: What, is she with Margo?
Craig: Yes. Margo's critical. They just took her to surgery.
Simon: Well, I'm gonna go to the hospital. Katie must be beside herself
Craig: Simon, Simon, wait. There's more. Margo couldn't wait for a liver donor. At least, not a conventional one. So they decided to go with a -- a living donor.
Simon: Oh, my God.
Craig: Yeah. Katie agreed to donate part of her liver to save Margo's life.
Simon: Why didn't the car take me straight to the hospital?
Craig: Because Katie didn't want you to know --
Simon: What are the risks?
Craig: Well, they're not high --
Simon: How high, Craig? What, has anyone ever died during a live donation? Damn it, Craig! Just answer me!
Craig: Yes. But -- Simon. [Simon rushes out the door]
Memorial Hospital
Simon: Katie? Katie! Stop, stop.
08-26-02 ... To Be the Better Sister ... or the Better Wife
Katie: -- What are you doing here?
Simon: Craig told me you were here. He told me the whole story.
Katie: The whole story? You know, when you can't trust your very own brother
Simon: No, he did the right thing. How could you do this? How could you make a decision like this without me?
Katie: I'll explain everything in just a second. [to the orderly] This is my husband. We haven't seen each other in a really long time. Would you mind just giving us a minute? Thanks. Let's go back there. All right, you can yell at me all you want. Just please kiss me first. I missed you so much.
Simon: All right, talk to me. Are you sure you want to do this? Donating a part of your liver, I mean, that's gotta be dangerous.
Katie: The procedure is safe. They asked all the right questions, and if someone doesn't help Margo right now, she's gonna die.
Simon: All right. But why do I have to hear it from Craig? Why don't you tell me about this?
Katie: I'm sorry. There just really wasn't time. I -- I heard that Margo needed me, and --
Simon: And then you left Avanya without bothering to say anything to me at all.
Katie: I know. I'm so sorry I put you through that. It just seemed like the only choice at the time.
Simon: All right. Leaving is one thing, but you've gone and made a life and decision without even saying a word to me.
Katie: Simon, I can't -- I can't have you mad at me right now. Please?
Simon: I'm not. I'm not angry. I'm -- I'm confused. We've been through so much together. I know you so well, I swear sometimes I can hear you think. But in a time when you should be depending on me the most, it's like -- it's like you don't trust me at all.
Katie: I didn't tell you about leaving Avanya because I thought it would be better for Rose and Paul and everyone, including you, for you to stay there and help them. And I didn't tell you about this because I didn't want you to worry about me.
Simon: Worrying about each other is part of the deal, especially when your life is at stake.
Katie: I know, but Margo's life is at stake, too, and I would never forgive myself if I didn't try to help her.
Simon: I'm -- I am proud of you. I'm proud of you for wanting to help your sister. But Katie, my god, if something goes wrong --
Katie: I know. See? This is exactly what I was afraid of.
Simon: What? That I have my doubts about this? How can you expect anything else?
Katie: That's only part of it. I also knew that if you knew about this, then you would try to stop me. You would try to talk me out of it.
Simon: That's not what I'm doing.
Katie: I know. It's not intentionally what you're doing, but seeing you suffering like this and that look in your eyes --
Simon: You've made a choice that affects me, too. I don't want to lose you.
Katie: I know. Okay. You said this was about trust, right? Here's how much I trust you. It's your decision, Simon. If you don't want me to go through with this, I will walk out of here right now with you.
Simon: But you're doing this at the possible cost of your own life.
Katie: Yeah. I've been having a hard time with that part, too. And it's so much harder with you here right now.
It was so much easier just to imagine seeing your beautiful face when everything was over.
Simon: You know, if you can't do this -- if you can't do this, no one's gonna blame you. Certainly not Margo.
Katie: I have the opportunity to save the life of somebody that I love. I consider that a gift from god. I can't go back on that. I can't walk away from that. I'm sorry.
Simon: You know, I wish I could tell you that I'm okay with this, but I can't.
Katie: I know. I just made that decision though. I'm part of a family. I never understood what that meant, but now I do.
Simon: You're part of a marriage, too.
Katie: I know. That's not gonna change. You're not gonna lose me.
Simon: You know, I made a vow to protect you. I just never imagined it would be from yourself.
Katie: Simon
Simon: Just give me a minute, okay? But if I have to make this decision
Katie: No, don't. I can't let you make this decision for me. She's my sister. It's my body, my life. I thought about this a lot. I made this decision, and now I know it's the right one, and I'm not gonna back out on it, even if that's not what you want.
Simon: All I want is for you to be with me, like we planned, forever.
Katie: I know, honey. I want that, too. Oh, I just need to know that you understand this.
Simon: Yeah, I do.
Katie: Good. Everything's gonna be fine. This life I've been living has been such a wonderful dream, and I am not ready to wake up yet.
Simon: It's going to be fine. Good luck, baby. Good luck.
Katie: I'll see you. I'll see you, baby.
Craig: Hey, Simon.
Simon: Yeah.
Craig: Did you get here in time?
Simon: Yeah. They just -- they just took her off to the O.R.
Craig: You know, she's gonna be all right.
Simon: Yeah.
Craig: They both are.
Simon: Yep. Hey, look, thanks for telling me, all right? I appreciate it.
08-27-02 ... Fear Creates Conflict ... And a Haunting Melody
Tom: I've been bothering the entire hospital staff for the past half-hour. Nobody knows anything.
Lisa: Well, maybe that's -- maybe that is good news though.
Tom: Well, not necessarily, mom. If there were any complications, I doubt they'd be sharing them with us.
Lisa: But honey, the doctors had to take part of Katie's liver, give it to Margo. Now I think that would take a while.
Craig: Well, there must be somebody else we can talk to.
Tom: I think it's best just to let the doctors do their job.
Lisa: Well, thank you. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go get off my feet.
Tom: You know, I think she's right. I have a feeling it's gonna be a long night.
[Simon walks up]
Simon: Craig.
Craig: Simon, what -- what's wrong? Did you hear something?
Simon: About Katie, yeah. I found a nurse and made her tell me what was going on in the O.R.
Craig: What's wrong?
Simon: She's bleeding more heavily than they expected. They're trying to stop it.
Craig: They -- they can't get it under control?
Simon: The nurse said they will eventually, but -- oh, it's this waiting. I just -- don't know how much more I can take of it, you know?
Craig: Yeah, yeah. I know what you mean.
[Bob walks out and talks to the family gathered in the waiting room and Craig rushes over to find out the news]
Craig: What happened?
Tom: Margo is out of surgery. They've -- they've taken her to recovery. She's doing okay.
Craig: Oh.
Tom: Is the transplanted liver functioning?
Bob: On a limited basis, yes, but the regeneration takes time. It'll be months before Margo's 100%.
Adam: Now, can you tell yet if there's gonna be any problem with mom's body rejecting the new liver?
Bob: At this point, a very slight risk.
Simon: What -- what about Katie? You haven't said a word about Katie yet.
Bob: Now Katie's experiencing some bleeding from the cut surface of the liver. Dr. Bartlett wants to make sure that that's under control before she leaves the O.R.
Craig: Yeah, but she'll be all right.
Bob: Well, post-operative bleeding after a procedure this complex is not unusual.
We'll keep her monitored very closely, and we see no reason to see any danger.
Simon: How long till you finish working on that?
Bob: Well, that's hard to say. I'm gonna rejoin the team in a few minutes. I'll let you know when Katie's out.
Simon: Please do.
Adam: When can we see mom again?
Bob: When Margo has fully regained consciousness.
Casey: What, an hour, two?
Bob: Well, it could be longer than that. Listen, if anybody wants to go home -- [talking over each other] I guess I knew that. Listen, even though Margo and Katie are under sedation, they know very well that you've been here and you've been rooting for them. So you've contributed a great deal to the success of this operation. I want to congratulate you on a job well-done.
Recovery Room
Nurse: Yes, sir.
John: Okay.
[As Margo sleeps off the anesthesia she hears Katie singing to her]
Katie: Hush little baby don't say a word
mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird
and if that mockingbird don't sing
mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring
if that diamond ring turns brass
mama's gonna buy you a looking glass
Surgery Waiting Room
Simon: I have barely breathed since they moved her down the hall. At least I got to see her before she went in.
Craig: Yeah, I'm glad. Katie didn't realize it, but she did need to see you.
Simon: She was determined to go through with it, Craig. There was no talking her out of it.
Craig: Well, I didn't tell you about the surgery so you could second guess her. It was to give her support.
Simon: You can't blame me for asking some questions here, Craig. I had to be sure that she knew what she was going through.
Craig: What? Her diving in head first without looking for water?
Simon: It's no secret she's pretty impulsive.
Craig: It's not entirely her fault.
Simon: No? Whose is it?
Craig: Yours.
Simon: What, are you saying it's my fault that Katie doesn't look before she leaps?
Craig: You're the last of the lost boys, Simon. Always looking for Never Never Land instead of acting like a husband.
Simon: Listen, from the moment we got married, I've done everything I could to keep Katie out of danger.
Craig: It wasn't that long ago some woman from your past made several threats on Katie's life.
Simon: That woman was nuts. She shows up without warning. I did everything to get her out of our lives.
Craig: You got to change the way you do things, Simon. Once Katie pulls through this operation, I won't let you be unfaithful to her again.
Simon: I don't know where you get your information from, Craig, but I've been 100% faithful to Katie ever since we got married.
Craig: What about Malta? Avanya? It's not about women, Simon.
It's about adventure.
Simon: Oh, please. The people I cared about were in trouble. Katie was well aware of the risks. I did nothing, nothing behind her back.
Craig: She knows you're addicted to danger, and she loves you, so she gives her blessing and then follows you.
Simon: Yeah, well, I begged her not to do that, haven't I?
Craig: Well, it doesn't matter. She worries about you, so she follows you. Now is that being impulsive, or is that following your lead?
Simon: You've got a lot of nerve, haven't you, Craig? Giving me advice about marriage. As I recall, you haven't been so successful at it yourself.
Craig: That's true. I have a weakness for women. It cost me Sierra. But if you don't put a stop to your weakness, you're gonna lose Katie.
Recovery Room
John: How's she doing?
Nurse: She's been stable since you left.
John: Good. Good, good, good.
Katie: Hush little baby don't say a word
mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird
[Margo moans]
John: How long has she been doing that?
Nurse: A few minutes.
[Margo moans]
John: It's all right. It's all right. Take your time. Whenever you come out, we'll be here waiting for you.
Memorial Hospital - Surgery Waiting Room
Craig: Well, I'm gonna protect my sister any way I can.
Simon: Protect her? You barely acknowledge her existence.
Craig: That's not true.
Simon: Have you been to the cottage yet? I mean, she must've invited you at least a dozen times.
Craig: Well, I've been a little busy, but I will get there.
Simon: Oh, I'm sure you will, when it suits you. It's always a one-way street with you, isn't it, Craig?
Craig: Actually, until a little while ago you and Katie were living with me. I never asked for rent, never questioned the bills.
Simon: Oh, fine, money. You're talking about money. So you've been a little generous with money. So what? What about giving of yourself? You know, treating Katie like and equal instead of some bubble you can pop without a second thought.
That's what she needs, Craig, and you haven't even been close to giving it.
Craig: Whoa, whoa, all right. I'm sorry about that.
Simon: You're worried about her, aren't you?
Craig: Yes.
Simon: Yeah? And attacking me makes you feel better, so cut me some slack.
Craig: All right. But I have sat in this hospital before and sworn to be more caring for the people who are important to me. And you just never know what can happen, how long they'll be around. And here I am again, having to learn that lesson all over again.
Recovery Room
John: She's doing well, doing well. Her vitals are strong. And she's getting close to regaining consciousness.
Bob: Katie gave us little scare a while ago, but she's stable now.
John: Did you inform the family?
Bob: Yeah, I'm on my way to do that now. We could do it together if you like.
John: No, I think I'm gonna stay here. In case she wakes up, I want her to be able to see someone she knows.
Bob: Okay, I'll check with you later.
John: All right.
[Katie singing]
hush little baby don't say a word
mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird
and if that mockingbird don't sing
Memorial Hospital - Surgery Waiting Room
Craig: Sure, sweetness, come on. What's up?
Kim: Craig?
Craig: Hmm?
Kim: Tom and I just got off the phone with Lila.
Craig: Oh, did you tell her her two girls are doing okay?
Kim: I did indeed, but she has a million questions.
Craig: Oh, well, I'll catch up with her later. Thank you for making that call.
Tom: Have we got any word?
Kim: No.
Simon: Not a word yet.
Tom: Hey, Gram, I hope you like beef and barley because that's all they had left.
Nancy: Perfectly all right, dear. Thank you.
Craig: There was something you wanted to tell me, sweetie?
Lucy: Um -- Aaron and I are gonna get another juice. Can I get you one?
Craig: No, no, I'm fine. Listen, if you wanna go home, I can call you with news.
Lucy: No, that's okay. Thanks. I couldn't tell him. Not now.
Aaron: That's okay. We'll be all right.
[Bob walks up]
Tom: Hey, dad, what's going on? How are they doing?
Bob: Well, they're both in recovery. Margo's beginning to gain consciousness. And once they're fully awake, we'll move them to their rooms.
Casey: So you mean that's it, right? They're gonna be okay?
Bob: Well, barring any complications, that's exactly what I mean. You should be able to see them in a couple of hours.
Simon: So how's that for good news, huh?
Craig: Well, it looks like I'll get another chance to try and do it right.
Recovery Room
Nurse: Dr. Dixon?
John: She's coming around?
[Katie singing]
hush little baby don't say a word
mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird
and if that mockingbird don't sing
mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring
Margo: Hey.
John: It's okay. You're gonna wake up now. There's nothing to be afraid of.
Margo: Something's wrong.
Can't they hear it?
Something's wrong.
They gotta help Katie.
08-28-02 ... "Stay With Me"
Bob: Well, we have to wait until the anesthesia wears off, monitor her for complications, just as we are with Margo.
Tom: So what about Margo? Is she conscious yet?
Bob: She's starting to come around. She's stable. So far so good.
Nancy: Is there anything at all that we can do?
Bob: Yes, there is, mom. Let's see -- you can rest. You can take a break. You can go home. You can get something to eat that doesn't taste antiseptic. Go bowling.
[Laughter]
Adam: You know what? I don't feel like going home right now, let's go downstairs and get something to eat.
Lisa: That's a good idea. As soon as I hear anything, I'll come find you.
Adam: Okay.
Simon: I think I'll wait outside the recovery room. I want to be there the second Katie wakes up.
Tom: You know, I promised Margo the exact same thing.
Simon: So she did it? Katie did it.
Craig: Wow, she's fearless, that one.
Tom: Just like her big sister.
Simon: I've been in a lot of tricky situations, but I'll tell you this one takes the cake.
Tom: Let's go over there.
Lucy: It's so incredible, isn't it, daddy? I'm so glad they're both okay.
Craig: Yeah, me, too. Come here. Come I better go call your grandma Lyla, all right?
Lucy: Okay.
Recovery Room
Margo: No. No.
John: Margo, it's dad. I'm here. It's John. The operation's over. You were amazing. You're going to be just fine.
[Moaning]
Margo: John?
John: I'm right here.
Margo: Katie -- [Margo mumbles] she's going -
[John looks over at Katie who is in distress]
John: We need assistance, stat.
Nurse: Her pressure's dropping, doctor. 82/50.
John: Her heart rate's climbing. She's bleeding out!
John: 360 charge.
Nurse: Charging.
John: Clear the bed.
Nurse: Clear.
John: 360 charge again.
Nurse: Charging.
John: Clear the bed.
Nurse: We have a sinus rhythm, doctor.
John: All right.
Nurse: Pulse is faint, but the blood pressure's still dropping. It's 70/40.
Margo: Katie -- please, Katie --
Outside Recovery
Tom: Well, I can try turning on the tears. It used to work when I was 5 years old.
Bob: Okay, I'll try. But I make no promises. Here, you guys suit up. Maybe I'll be successful.
Simon: Thanks, man.
Simon: Katie used to love me in a suit. Oh, Tom, she seems so far away right now.
Tom: Well, Margo did, too, Simon, a few minutes ago. But she is coming back to me. I can feel that now. I want you to know something. Not a day will go by in my life that I will not be eternally grateful for what Katie's doing for me and my family. And I seriously mean that.
Bob: I'm sorry. You'll have to wait.
Tom: What's happened?
Bob: Margo's fine.
Simon: How's Katie? What about Katie?
Bob: Katie has got some complications. [Simon rushes into the recovery room] No, no. Simon, no!
Recovery Room
Simon: I'm here, baby. Katie? Katie, I'm here. All right. Stay with me, please. I got you.
John: All right, let's give her a few minutes. Watch that carefully.
Simon: You're going to be okay, my love.
John: Listen to me
Simon: You're going to open those beautiful -- I'm not leaving. I'm not going anywhere.
John: I know that. I'm not asking you to leave. I just want you to be very careful because she's not stabilized yet.
Simon: She's going to come around. I know she will. [Simon walks around to the side of Katie's bed and takes her hand] Now you listen to me, Katie Frasier. You are strong and stubborn, and sometimes it takes you some pretty crazy places. I mean, it took you to the altar with me, right? Don't you hide from me now. Look, there was a time when you wouldn't let me go, and now it's my turn. I can't, Katie. I will not let you go, please. Wherever you are, come back to me. Katie, please, come back to me. Come back to me.
Katie: Hello?
Dad?
What are you doing here?
Simon: Katie?
Katie: Leave me alone.
I'm having an adventure.
Simon: Katie, it's me.
Come back, Katie.
Please, come back to me.
Katie: Simon?
Simon: Katie?
Katie?
Katie: Simon?
Simon: Katie? Katie, please, come back.
John: Stand by.
Simon: I love you. I love you so much. Please, come back.
Nurse: She's stabilized.
John: Nice work.
Outside Recovery
John: It was close, but we've got Katie stabilized again.
Nancy: Oh, bless that child.
Tell her, will you, please, that I'm leaving right now to go tell -- give the news to Snickers and a whole big bowl of lettuce.
John: Okay, I will.
Tom: So, can I go see Margo now?
John: Yeah, sure, sure. But take it easy, will you? Because she's -- she's still coming around.
Lisa: Well, I told Katie and Adam that I would go get them down in the cafeteria and let them know the news.
John: Do me a favor. Ask Margo how she knew.
Tom: Knew what?
John: Knew that Katie was in trouble before I did.
Lisa: Why? What did Margo say?
John: As she was coming out of the anesthesia, she said, "Katie's in trouble." And then Katie's monitor went off. We'll have to think about that one, I think.
Lisa: John, what is there to think about? Of course Margo would know.
Recovery Room
Tom: Well, you might have saved her life.
Margo: No, it's the other way around.
Tom: Hey. Sleep now.
Margo: I gotta tell Katie something.
Simon: Hey there, beautiful.
[Katie opens her eyes]
Katie: Simon.
Simon: I missed you.
Memorial Hospital
Craig: What, John? Is it Margo, Katie?
John: No, no, Margo is fine. But we just had a very close call with Katie.
Craig: What?
John: We almost lost her, but she's stabilized again.
Craig: I gotta see her. I -- thank you, John.
Recovery Room
Simon: I know you were.
Katie: It was so beautiful. I saw
Simon: Shh, shh. You're not going back there. You understand me? Not for a very long time.
Katie: Margo, neither.
Simon: Margo, neither.
Katie: What, Margo? Louder.
Simon: Shh, baby. She's sleeping.
Margo: Katie -- thanks.
