If you think that collecting Outlaw Star will be as easy as DBZ or Tenchi Muyo, you are very mistaken. The truth is, no matter how hard it is to find a Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, I have seen far more of those than I have most of the characters from Outlaw Star. The fact is, the show ran for only 26 half-hour episodes. Some characters only lasted one episode, so finding someone who may only appear for a combined seven minutes of film is very tough. Add to that the fact that cels from the series have not yet been officially released from the studio, and you've got one hell of a tough search on your hands. Here is a list of what, in my experience, are the most difficult villains and heroes to find from this series.

Villains:

10. Ron MacDougall- Hard to find GOOD cels of him. Most I've seen has his eyes closed or was an awkward shot. Expect to pay good money for a shot of him with his caster, $100-$250. A shot of him in the Shangri-La's tank will run you about the same, $150-$200.

9. Harry MacDougall- Pretty much the same as Ron, just more expensive on average due to his popularity. Even a bad shot of Harry can jack you up for $100! Harry's cyber form is highly sought after, and will fetch you a good price, possibly over $200. Same goes for shots of him in his Navagation Tank.

8. Hitoriga- One of only two cels of the Anten Seven that have shown up! I've actually seen about four cels of this guy in different galleries, usually in his Suzuka form. Getting shots of him masked are a bit harder, and I haven't seen one yet. Unmasked, expect to pay around $100-$150. Masked, a bit more.

7. Leilong- He finally showed up as well, even if it was only the back of his head. Getting a good frontal shot of this great character will probably run you about $75, due to the fact that hardly anyone knows who he is and won't realize what they are selling.

6. The Tao Priests- I've seen three cels of the girl and one of the "Old Man", but I have yet to see a cel of the lanky sword wielder. They are generally cheap when I have seen them, around $30 each.

5. The Clown Pirate- That Kei Pirate from "Forced Departure" has not reared his ugly head, and neither has his Frankenstein buddy that ate it at the hands of Suzuka.

4. Gwen Kahn- Since Gwen was a major player in the series, I have a feeling he will turn up pretty soon. And, because he is on many wishlists, expect him to go for around $75-$150 depending on the scene.

3. Hazanko- He is in this position because, aside from Hamnyo, he got the most screen time of all the Anten Seven. Still, no cels of him have turned up yet. A good shot should fetch a decent price, $75-$150.

2. Rob Cain- Poor Rob, only lasted a couple of minutes in the series. Doubt I'll see a cel of him in the near future.

1. The Rest of the Anten- Hamushi, Lady Iraga, Tobigera, Jukei, Hamnyo: No cels of them exist to my knowledge. Hamnyo and Tobigera tend to be the most popular of the group.

Most Difficult to Find: Shimi- Shimi was Leilong's little protege who got whacked fairly easily by Gene. Since he had about three minutes of screen time and few collectors know who he is, good luck finding him.

Heroes:

10. Gene Starwind- Very easy to find cels of him, especially if you are in the minority who like his Heifong date suit. Cels of him in cyber form, firing his caster or dressed as Jenny Starwind are gold if you find them. For a good caster shot, it will run you anywhere from $75-$250 depending on whether the scene has him just holding it or actually firing it. Cels of him with any other gun are also popular, and will run in the $75+ range depending on the shot. One cel of him in cyber-form, although very poorly drawn, has finally shown up. No cels of him as Jenny Starwind exist. Cels of him with short hair from the last episode will run the big bucks, easily over $200.

9. Jim Hawking- Same as Gene, only it's hard to find GOOD cels of him. Most of the episodes where Jim was prominantly featured were poorly animated, so it is hard to get a really good full-body shot of him. Cels of him from episodes 1-5, 8, 12, 15 and 20 hold your best chances of finding good cels of Jim.

8. Melfina- Same deal, lots of cels of her, few good ones. Cels of her in cyber form are becoming a bit easier to find, but still rare to find a decent shot. Most shots of her Cyber-Form look rushed or awkward with very little detail. Cels of her in her Leyline outfit, jammies, last episode cloak, or in any other outfit other than her blue cloak are a bit more prized. Planet Tenrei episode cels are gold. As for the Navigation Tank, same deal as cyber-form. A shot her from the intro to episode 25 has finally shown up(and guess who snagged it^_^). It is very rare not to find rushed depictions of her in the navigation tank, as many tend to look awkward. What collectors look for are: detail, smooth action and well drawn proportions. For an example, use either the cels in my gallery or the one in Jason's gallery at Outlaw Star Cel Station

7. Aisha Clan-Clan- VERY difficult to find good, close shots of her. Most of the cels I see of her are from the Leyline episodes(Earthy colors, very unattractive), from the "Water Planet" episode(blue colors and very poorly drawn episode), or far away action shots. Tenrei cels are gold if you can find them. Best episodes are 3, 5, and 10-12. Cels of her as Firecat also tend to be drawn well, but I've only seen one so far.

6. Suzuka- Very hard character to find, period. Then, you have to sift through those few cels you do find and see if any of them are decent shots. Good closeup shots are hard to find. Tenrei cels are very sought after. Cels of her holding her Bokuto(Bokken) are preferred and can run over $175 depending on the shot. Any decent shot of Suzuka will cost you in the neighborhood of $150 and up.

5. Hilda- Only slightly harder to find than Suze, but fewer good shots out there. Only one cel of her alter ego "Rachel Sweet" exist to date. Shots of her interacting with Gene from episode two seem to be the most desired. Shots of her piloting Horrace are also popular.

4. Swanzo and Mikey- I've seen three Swanzos, but no Mikeys. I don't know when he will turn up, since he is a minor character and very hard to place by everyday dealers.

3. Fred Luo- The crown jewel in any collection, Fred is such a great character to have. Good luck finding a decent shot of him for under $200. He has a small cameo in Angel Links first epsisode. People tend to like shots of Fred and Gene together, shots of him smiling, or shots of him doing that ear-scratching thing he loves to do.

2. Clyde and Iris- I've seen one Iris, but no Clyde. They also have cameos in Angel Links. I am sure some cels will pop up soon, and you can expect to get them for cheap.

1. Duuz or Valeria- If you just want a cel of them, you can find them in Angel Links pretty easily. But, if you want them from Outlaw Star(drawn better and way cooler) then good freakin luck!

Most Difficult to find: The Wizards of Planet Tenrei- I've seen three Urt cels, that's it. Expect to pay a mint for these cels when they do show up due to their cult following. Ark Manaf is a very sought after character.

Gilliam is on a lot of wishlists, but I've only seen about two cels of his Pink version and one of his unpainted drones. Shots of him aren't that expensive, and have gone for as little as $30 in the past. As for other cels of the ships featured in the series, I've only seen a few cels of the Outlaw Star(only two unpainted versions), two cels of the Tao Priest ship, but no Horrace, El Dorado/Shangri La or Geomancer cels. The most popular hunt is for the Orte Hone Hone, the Ctarl-Ctarl cruiser. Matching production backgrounds are rare for this series as well, as only a handfull have come out so far. No OP/EC/Eyecatch cels have turned up yet. Hope this helps you in your search and gives you a bit of an idea of what you are in store for when you collect this series.
