| The Cool
Surface is an erotic thriller about Jarvis, a
talented but struggling novelist. When Jarvis
presents his manuscript to his agent, the man
criticizes the novel saying, "People won't read
it. Put some bullets in it. I can sell bullets."
Shortly afterwards, Jarvis becomes involved in a
passionate affair with his neighbor, Dani, an actress
who provides the proper inspiration for the
down-and-out novelist. A major film studio purchases
the rights to his first novel and Dani is cast in the
film based on that novel. But Jarvis and Dani play
emotionally dangerous games with each other which
lead to some fatal results. Jarvis is out jogging one night in the Hollywood Hills when he stops to rest for a moment. He hears a sound and turns to see a coyote standing nearby. The two stare at each other. The coyote then turns and scampers away. To achieve this action, the trainer placed the coyote in the desired position and gave the animal verbal cues to stand and stay. Then, again with verbal cues, the coyote was encouraged to run from point A to point B. |
