As Ian`s dreams were faking shape, his life was disrupted by his parent`s struggle with alcoholism. They both died shortly after Ian was 14. It was a difficult time for him.

Eventually, Ian became disenchanted with the repetitiveness of modeling and found acting intriguing.

In an interview he said: "When I was a child, I had an active imagination, like all children do. I didn`t think that the way children play, where they pretend to be someone else, had anything to do with acting, but I eventually realized that what children do is exactly what acting is about: becoming someone else."

Rather than pursue an acting career in London, Ian relocated to New York City. He continued modeling.

Ian`s first big acting break was in 1986, when he landed the role of Duke Lavery on General Hospital. He was paired with Finola Hughes, who played Anna Scorpio, and they remain friends to this day. The powerful chemistry Ian and Finola shared, quickly established the duo as one of GH`s hottest romantic couples. Ian walked away from the role in 1989.

Ian now worked on primetime series and TV movies. He appeared in "Columbo cries wolf" as the bad guy. Then, he joined "Twin Peaks", "On the Air" and many others.

In 1993, he returned to a soap as "The Bold and The Beautiful"`s Dr. James Warwick, a brilliant psychiatrist. He had the distinction of being the oldest male virgin on daytime.
