| This car was exported off the assembly line from the U.K. in 1961 to Paris France as a left hand drive car. In 1981 it was sold to an American who took it to the United States of America. In 1983, while still in the U.S.A., the car was involved in an accident where it rolled and was written off. In 1996 this particular Healey was found sitting in a field and exported to Australia by the Austin Healey Factory. In 1997 I purchased the car as a wreck from the Healey Factory here in Melbourne Australia and have since spent the last three and a half years restoring it.
I cleaned out my garage and cleared a working area for the 3000. She was partially cannibalized while sitting around the field for so many years so was not completely intact. The engine was not mounted properly, the soft top was in bad shape (and is still under scrutiny as to whether it can be salvaged), the body was in poor shape (since it rolled over in the accident) and inside the vehicle were parts sitting in a cardboard box. I began the slow task of dismantlement. |
