From July 23rd-25th the World Haidong Gumdo Federation hosted an international festival with competitors from England, Korea, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, Portugal and the United States. The event was held in the same place and with the same competitions as in 2000 but everything was on a much larger scale. Regional Heads of all the countries to which HDGD has spread were present, several of them bringing teams. As in 2000, the competitions were in solo forms, group forms, duel choreography and bamboo cutting.
Demonstrations this year included displaying the new sparring armour, unarmed combat and self defense in addition to the normal range of mind-blowing cutting and forms demonstrations. The audience was particularly thrilled by a demonstration which combined the execution of Shimsang Gumbub complete with bamboo cutting!
