Hikaru Shidou

A good example of a pure, honest, and simple girl. Although she is vertically challenged, she can jump very well. She is good at attacks using a sword because she has been learning kendo since she was a small child. She learns Fire magic. The shortest of the three Magic Knights. She has red hair which she puts back in a long pony tail and red eyes. Her school uniform consists of a black skirt, a red jacket, a big white bow in front, red socks and black shoes. Energetic and almost always happy. Of the three of them, she gets along best with Mokona. Naive, she is often mistaken for a younger girl ("We thought you were eleven!"). The Neketsu Shoujo (ne?).
Umi Ryuuzaki

Not afraid of things and speaks her mind clearly, so she might be seen as a selfish person. However, she cares deeply about her friends. She uses rapiers well because she fences. She learns Water magic. The tallest of the three Magic Knights (by a little). Umi has long light blue hair and blue eyes. Her school uniform consists of a blue skirt over black tights (which she thankfully loses when she gets her armor) and a blue jacket with an orange tie. She also has blue boots. She's short-tempered and she over reacts to anything strange or unpleasent. She has trouble dealing with strange things ("This lake is too weird! From now on you're known as the 'Weird Lake Eteruna'!!") She constantly fights with Mokona (as much as you can fight with someone who has a one word vocabulary). Somewhat clueless when it comes to men. The Ooba no Shoujo.

Fuu Hououji

Always smiling but is actually quite a strategist. Her comments are often right to the point. Her being in the archery club at school allows her to use the bow and arrow. She learns Wind magic. Fuu has shoulder length, light brown hair, green eyes, and wears glasses. Her school uniform is green skirt, green jacket, small red tie and brown shoes. She has an occaisonaly morbid sense of humor ("Don't worry. You'll go unconscious before you hit the ground and when you wake up you'll have one of these (halo)." All this with a large grin.) She has a tendency to state the obvious ("That must be a monster.") and she addresses everyone with unfailing politeness (including her enemies ("Mamono-san") and even Mokona ("Mokona-san"). She has a very smart and logical mind. She has a kind nature and almost never gets mad. Currently being swept off her feet by Ferio (lucky girl : ) ). The Taihen Atama Yoku Shoujo.

Mokona

The mysterious organism Clef left with Presea to give to the Magic Knights. Can't speak anything besides "Puu". Can take many things (e.g. a tent, food) from the ornament on its forehead. For now, it is unclear as to what other good it has. It looks like it's not thinking about anything at all; maybe it really isn't thinking about anything. A small, puffy, white creature with droopy rabbit-like ears. It has a red gem in it's forehead and a strangely contented expression on it's face. Mokona spends a lot of time fighting with Umi and is generally bad. It seems rather fond of Hikaru. It quickly disappears whenever there's a fight. It lets the Magic Knights communicate with Clef. Fushigina seibutsu.

Guru Clef

A Madoushi that provides people with magical potential with magic and teaches the spells to them. He had promised Princess Emeraude to help lead those from another world to become the Magic Knights. He looks like a child, but is 745 years old. He is the supreme Yil (i.e. Guru), but he seems to have a short temper. Clef has light purple hair and blue eyes. Clef's role with the Magic Knights is mainly advisory due to events beyond his control. He awakened the magic of the Magic Knights and gave them their armor. Clef resents the fact that Umi doesn't take him seriously. Saikyo no Madoshi.

Presea

A Pharle's job is to create weapons for all uses -- for battles and for ceremonies. Presea is the supreme Pharle, and she is the only one that can create weapons from the Legendary Mineral Eskudo. But, sometimes she does not listen to what others say well, and plays with her own imagination... that's the troubling thing about her. Presea is tall with dark blonde hair and brown eyes. She is constantly frustrated by Mokona clutering up her room. In her spare time, she developes traps to catch Mokona and ways to punish him when he's caught ("Should I stretch out your ears, to see how far they can go?"). Upon first meeting the girls, she thinks they're houligans, come to mess up her room. She gives the Magic Knights their weapons. Henna shumi desu ne...

Princess Emeraude

The Pillar that supports Cefiro with the power of her Prayer. Cefiro reflects exactly what is going on within the Princess's Heart. Right now, she cannot pray for the peace and stability of Cefiro, so there are monsters creating confusion and wars all thoughout the land. Although younger than Clef, she is pretty old. Nevertheless, the Princess looks like a young girl. This girl is really short! It may look like she's kneeling, since her blond hair drags on the ground, but she's actually standing (well, we think that she's standing). Being as she's traped in a bubble by Zagato, she spends most of her on-screen time crying and asking for help. The Princess called the Magic Knights to Cefiro. Kanashii Hime-sama.

Ferio

A mysterious shounen that appears at the Forest of Silence. (Although the actual age may be different from how old they appear to be in Cefiro.) He seems to be quite a swordsman, but there are many secrets about him as of now. He uses a sword that is about as big as his own height. Ferio has green hair and brown eyes. He has a scar on his left cheek and one accross the bridge of his nose. He is a naturally charming young man. He seems quite taken with Fuu at first glance despite her initial distrust of him, and proceeds to sweep her off her feet. A competent and self-assured young man, he seems lonely at times. ...kakkoii!

Rayearth

Rayearth, holder of the Power of Fire, is shaped like a red lion. Hikaru revived him in the Fire Shrine, and he fought with her as a Mashin. As with Mokona, his true figure was not revealed in the main portion of the story, but he represents Fire, Passion, and Future.

Selece

Selece, holder of the Power of Water, is shaped like a blue sea dragon. Umi revived him in the Water Shrine and fought with her since as a Mashin. He represents Water, Kindness, and Present.

Windam

Windam, the holder of the Power of Wind, is shaped like a green bird with four wings. He fought with Fuu after being revived in the Wind Shrine. He represents Wind, Knowledge, and Past.

Zagato

Zagato was once the Sol (or High Priest) of Cephiro, assigned to help Princess Emeraude with her prayers for Cephiro. However, he ended up falling in love with Princess Emeraude and was determined to do anything, even give his life, to prevent the Magic Knights from carrying out their duty. Like Princess Emeraude, Zagato was also brought back to life and now they're working together to get revenge on the Magic Knights.

Alcione

Alcione is a sorceress that was trained in magic by Guru Clef, but eventually betrayed him to serve Zagato, who she was in love with. Of course, Zagato did not return her feelings and, after numerous failures, he imprisoned her, but she managed to escape. Alcione is still alive somewhere in Cephiro, but her current whereabouts are unknown.

Lafarga

Lafarga was the chief of the imperial guardians of Princess Emeraude. He fell under a spell cast by Zagato and became his loyal servant. That is, 'til he accidentally touched Hikaru's sword, triggering her defense system, and bringing him back to his true senses. He's an incredibly skilled fighter. In the second season, he was a good guy who fought with the MK against the invading planets.

Ascot

Ascot was a little kid who couldn't directly hurt people, but could call creatures from different worlds, or create them with his magic when he needed aid. He's a bit shy, but was mostly pessimistic and taunting. Ascot had a HUGE crush on Umi, and watched what she did very carefully. He's also Caldina's little brother.

Spells: Maxima Magic-Majyuu Shoukan-Beast Summon

Caldina

Caldina was the only person in Zagato's "army" who wasn't born in Cephiro (she originally came from Chizeta). She worked as a dancer and illusionist for Zagato and made tons of money (money is Caldina's best friend). She was the third person sent to defeat the Magic Knights, but with Fuu's help, she realized that she didn't want to give up her life to her devotion to money. She's a cheerful, fun, and self-centered person. She returns in Magic Knights Rayearth 2 as a good guy come to help Cephiro in its battle against the three invading planets.

Innova

Innova was originally a giant wolf-like creature that was given to Zagato by Princess Emeraude as a pet, however, Zagato used his magic to change Innova into human form. Inouva still thought of Zagato as his master and remained loyal to him, despite knowing Zagato's true intentions and feelings. Innova was also brought back to life and has rejoined with Zagato and Princess Emeraude. His true reason for this is unknown. In his human form, Innova is capable of wielding very powerful magic. In his wolf form, he is even more powerful, even though he looses his magical powers.

Lantis

The younger brother of Sol Zagato. He used to be the only Kailu in Cephiro, but he disappeared one day. He returned to Cefiro after Princess Emeraude passed away. He learned magic from Guru Clef, and had more power than the Dals, but he is now a mysterious figure. Although his voice sounds very similar to Zagato's, his personality seems to be drastically different. He is always reticent and poker-faced. It will be a while before the truth about this guy that looks like he's thinking about something but might not be thinking of anything at all will be known.

Primera

A pixie that claims she's been with Lantis ever since he rescued her when she was being attacked by monsters. She can use healing magic, although she only uses them for Lantis's wounds. Although he has no romantic intentions, she dreams about a future where she lives happily together with Lantis... and dislikes anything that gets in the way of that dream.

Eagle Vision

The commander-in-chief of NSX, the battleship that Autozam sent to conquer Cefiro. He is also the strongest Commander in Autozam. When there is no battle, he is very calm and always smiling. He seems to have a clumsy side, and he seems to fall asleep during conferences or to trip and fall where there is nothing to trip on. He likes sweet things, and he loves to drink tea and space out. He loves to sleep more than anything else.

Geo Metro

The Subcommander for the NSX. An excellent Fighter. Eagle's friend and general baby-sitter. He is outgoing, like his appearance, but for some reason he has a sweet tooth and can't drink alcohol at all. He is also friends with Lantis, so there must have been much to think about during this conquest project. He makes a good combo with Zazu: they are good friends despite their age difference.

Zazu Torque

The Subcommander for the NSX. An excellent Fighter. Eagle's friend and general baby-sitter. He is outgoing, like his appearance, but for some reason he has a sweet tooth and can't drink alcohol at all. He is also friends with Lantis, so there must have been much to think about during this conquest project. He makes a good combo with Zazu: they are good friends despite their age difference.

FTO

The figher-mecha custom-made for Eagle. The machine emphasizes speed and lightness (weightwise), and is undefeated in Autozam. It has a laser-sword that matches Eagle's on its hand, and it can fire vulcans, beams, and the like. Eagle, who is usually calm, supposedly becomes a completely different person when he gets on FTO. There are regular models of fighter-mechas, but Eagle's FTO and Geo's GTO are specially tuned.

Princess Tatra

The older princess of Cizeta. Always happy and sanguine, but there seems to be something more underneath. Although she seems weak and ditzy, she is the best at martial arts and learning in Cizeta. Tarta seems to mind the fact that she has never won against her older sister. Tatra is rather indifferent about coming to Cefiro. She loves to drink tea and tries to hold tea parties even during battle when there is time. She also seems to enjoy Tarta losing it when the tea parties are held during battle.

Princess Tarta

Cizeta's younger princess. Sometimes very stubborn, but an honest and kind princess at heart. Is worried about the small size of the country, and wants to make it even slightly bigger for her parents. That is why she decided to come to Cefiro. The king and queen of Cizeta, however, have no problems with a small country, and just wish that their people live in peace and happiness. She practices her martial arts every day, and studies to be a better lord, but cannot win against her older sister no matter what she does.

Rakoon & Rasheen

The guardian spirits that protect the princesses of Cizeta. It seems to function like guardian angels for the royal family of Cizeta. Rakoon guards Tarta and Rasheen guards Tatra. Their personalities are said to differ slightly, but not much is known. Since they are spirits, they do not have a basic shape and can morph into anything. They usually seem to be in a shape resembling a genie.

Princess Aska

A child as anyone can see. The Empress-to-be of Fahren. She is the only heir and her parents have passed away, so she has grown up spoiled, but she is also honest and kind at heart. She decided to come to Cefiro from purely childish materialistic desires: she wants to become a pretty princess and do whatever she wishes. Sanyun's mother was her nanny. She hates to study, and is always scolded by the sage Chanan -- but she never gives in to him. She controls the illusionary spells passed on only to the royal family in Fahren to fight the Magic Knights.

Sanyun

The loyal servant of Aska, who grew up by her side. The face resembles a gag-manga character, but is actually very thoughtful and studious. He studies day and night about many things, hoping that someday he will be helping Aska when she rules over Fahren. He cannot use illusionary spells because he is not of the royal family, but is excellent at martial arts and at archery. He seems to have a fondness for Aska, but has no intentions of telling her because of the social class difference.

Chanan

A Cabinet member of Fahren. He currently rules over Fahren as the young Aska wouldn't be able to handle it. A relative of the royal family, he can use a little bit of illusionary spells. He has hopes that Aska will become a great empress with the correct guidance, based on her illusionary ability and bright, honest and kind personality. Thus, he treats her fairly harshly, so Aska thinks of him as a "preachy old man" but he doesn't mind. He hopes that Sanyun will help the somewhat clumsy Aska in the future.

Debonair

This femme fatale is the second season's main villain. Cephiro being what it is, the despair and fear of its inhabitants coalesces after Emeraude's death into an incredibly powerful, pitiless destroyer.

Nova

Nova is a mysterious young girl from Cephiro, who Princess Emeraude discovered shortly after she was reborn. Nova claims to have been born for Hikaru, but the true meaning of this is unclear. Princess Emeraude has convinced Nova that she could help rid Nova of everyone that stands between her and Hikaru. Nova was so happy that she has agreed to help her. Nova possesses the ability to use the exact same spells that Hikaru can use. It is currently unknown what other abilities she has, though.
