United Way's Annual Day of Caring, Aug. 24th
The United Way Day of Caring is a day that is set aside each year for our communities to come together and assist folks who need help. Some of the projects are at the homes of elderly who need things done around the outside of their homes. Other projects are at non profit agencies who don't have the $$ to get some things accomplished to serve their clients and we help out there. In the past, Girl Scout troops have been very helpful in doing things like washing buses, cleaning toys, furniture, and classrooms at a day care, planting
flowers - things like that. All age level of troops are welcome to join in with us. Just let Gloria know which troop, a contact name, phone number and/or fax number, and how many girls/adults you plan on having with you. The morning of the 24th, all teams and their team members meet for the kickoff
at Belk Tonawanda Park at 7:30 a.m. The first 600 to arrive get a free T-shirt and breakfast is served until it's gone. Then after a brief kickoff, the teams
divide up and head to the project. They work until the project is complete, then head home. Pass your information along to Gloria H. or contact Suzanne B. at the United Way. They will then contact you and let you know which project you will be working with.

District Team Position Open
We have a new position on our District Team that needs to be filled – the District Community Service Coordinator. This position was created to ensure that we continue to show our efforts to help our community by having ongoing, meaningful service projects for our troops to participate in. If you can help in this area, please let us know.
Remembering and Honoring Heroes
On September 11, 2002, all members of Girl Scouts, Hornets Nest Council are encouraged to wear their uniforms as a symbol of our patriotism. Girl Scouts can reflect the spirit and values of the Girl Scout Promise and Law and show the Spirit of America during the month of September and throughout the year by adopting local police and fire departments in an effort to develop immediate as well as long term relationships with them. Please make sure you pick up the flyer which lists ideas you can use with your troops to strengthen relationships with our local heroes.
