Graduated Cultured Pearl Necklace:
This is a 17.25” cultured freshwater pearl necklace with 14K gold clasp. The pearls are “A” grade Chinese pond-cultured pearls, with exceptionally thick nacre and good luster, with few inclusions/imperfections, ivory with slight color gradations, and fair size/shape matching. The pearl size is graduated, from 6x7mm near the clasp to larger than 8x10mm in the center. The extremely large pearl size is rare in freshwater pearls – the pearl farm had to sort over three tons of pearls for this necklace! The pearls have been strung and hand-knotted on heavyweight white silkon cord, which is a special heat-treated nylon (looks and drapes similar to silk), because the large size/weight of the pearls would stretch and readily break traditional heavyweight silk. The bead tips and filigree fishhook clasp are solid 14 karat gold (stamped by the metalsmith). The necklace comes in a black velvet and white satin rectangular necklace case and includes instructions for pearl care. The retail value for this particular necklace is over $750.
