First Blood: Special Features
The DVD features the same commentary by David Morrell that appeared on the original DVD. This is a fantastic commentary, one that is still interesting after having listened to it several times. I am glad this was not cut. The biggest addition to this DVD is the new documentary Drawing First Blood. This is a real treat. The Documentary opens with the voice of Ted Kotcheff (who's directorial style I have begun to study elsewhere on this website). It includes interviews with all of the creative team including: Ted Kotcheff, Sylvester Stallone, David Morrell, Andrew Vanja and Mario Kassar. It was really cool to finally get to hear Sly talking about his Rambo character, his encounters with Kirk Douglas (originally cast for Trautman) and a lot more. Getting Kotcheff to talk about the film just pushed it over the edge. This documentary also features some footage and stills from a little known of making of First Blood documentary made by Riead Productions called Behind the scenes of First Blood. I have tried to find a copy of this documentary, but it seems impossible to find. This Documentary is an amazing piece of work and certainly the highlight of the box set.
