First Blood: General Overview
First Off let me say I am very impressed with this version of the DVD. It is a two sided DVD with wide-screen on one side and $:# PAN and SCAN on the other side for those of you who prefer full screen movies. There is just the one commentary found on the original DVD with author David Morrell - a very good commentary for those who have not yet used this feature. There is also a brand new documentary - Drawing First Blood - which makes the entire box set worth the price. The original featurette First Blood: A Look Back now appears on the bonus disk. There are new audio features. As the old version only had Dolby 2.o, this disk features Dolby 2.0, Dolby 5.1 and DTS. The digital transfer is also much better. On the original DVD, while it was much better than the old VHS copies that floated around, still had a bit of pixilization, grain, and other glitches at times. This print is crystal clean. There are a few things that are not as good on this disk. Primarily just the Cast and Crew and Production Notes sections. The old disk had a narrator talking you through all of these, which was very nice, but on this disk there is nothing more than text covered screens. Also I was sort of hoping for English subtitles. All in all however, this should be made a part of any Rambo/Stallone fan's DVD library.
