The "Old" Prez says: One month left in a two year term as President that seems to have started only last month. On Thursday, June 15th the 2000-2001 officers will be inducted to guide the Dutton & District Lions Club, led by President Elect Mike Gardiner for the next year. I have enjoyed being your "leader" the last two years and thank you for putting up with me. Don't forget that each member, spouse and guests are invited to the annual BBQ this year at the Lions Den. I hope "all" of you are able to attend. A final count will be needed at the june 15th meeting. I look forward to the Installation Night June 15th, starting at 7:30 PM (no meal). Hint for the day
Don’t take breathing for granted. It is something we take for granted and rarely think about until it becomes restricted. Most people don’t realize that breathing is a powerful healing tool. It brings valuable oxygen into the system and eliminates carbon dioxide from it.
Many women are such shallow breathers that they are oxygen deficient. As often as you remember, fill your lungs with air (must be deep breathing) through your nose and then let it our slowly through your mouth until your lungs are empty. Repeat this 5 times in a row several times a day.
Not only will this destress you, it will help you feel more refreshed. This exercise is especially important if you are bedridden and cannot exercise. By practising deep breathing, you are bathing your cells in much needed oxygen and exercising your lungs. |

Lions Thought for the Day Today is a day to be thankful for all the beauty of creation. I will pause in the midst of a busy day and reflect on the wonders of the earth. |

This ‘n That
from "The Lions’ Roar" [Strathroy Lions Club}
"Have you ever given any thought to the amount of time our leaders spend on the aspects of planning or for that matter what constitutes being a leader?
In something as simple as an agenda there are 5 steps. Analyzing, reading for background, engaging in dialogue, priortizing, and writing.
In analyzing the situation a leader must take a look at the big picture thinking about all the work responsibilities, challenges and opportunities that belong to our group as well as future opportunities and challenges that may be available to us.
In re-reading the previous minutes of the last two meetings, a leader discovers what the group agreed to, and will determine whether it has been done and what needs to be followed up.
In planning an agenda, conversations with key persons are usually helpful and strategic in outlining the issues, concerns and needs key people require to be able to build toward resolutions. In discussing matters with key individuals who may be making reports, a reminder should be given to make those reports to the Secretary in writing, and ask them early enough whether there will be issues that require debate and decision.
Once accomplished, priortizeing the information gathered and writing out the agenda to ensure that important items or items that require a decision are addressed first, followed by reports, willensure that members will invest their highest level of energy on vital and not trivial matters. In priortizing, blocks of time should be set for each agenda item and a chairman should set a time for adjournment and stick to it."
{The article continues to tell more about leading and I can provide it for those who are interested, but I would like to close this section with his Lion Mike Kresky’s last paragraph.}
"A leader is many thingsall wrapped into one. Believing and trusting in himself, a leader is committed and believes in others, pursuing excellence in work, in planning and in relationships, A leader admits mistakes. A leader is creative, is part dreamer, worker, educator, student, communicator, observer and listener. A leader is never quite satisfied ..."
{We can all learn from his article.}
