Trinidad
Trinidad’s reputation as a unique relic of the colonial era is well deserved. Founded in 1514 by Diego Velazquez, this living museum still keeps in its streets and houses the ambience of the times of its foundation. For its cultural treasures, Unesco granted Trinidad, with the World’s Heritage site title since 1988. Within Cuba it is also a National Monument.
The title is justified by the richness of Trinidad’s colonial architecture, which is mostly untouched by the trapping of 20th century. Many of the streets are still cobbled, paved with the stones used as ballast in the ships of early Spanish traders.
The town is full of interesting places and is the site of some Cuba’s best museums.
Discover the charms of the Plaza Mayor, the Museo Romantico or the Museo de la Lucha Contra Bandidos, dedicated to the events of the struggle that took place in the Escambray Mountains, at the beginning of the Revolution, Trinidad’s Cigars factory and the Ceramics factory are also worth to see.
The famous bar La Canchanchara offers you their special drink made with rum, lemon water and honey. Lots of handmade crafts and souvenirs can be bought at the open-air market.
