Rheal Lanthier

I was born in Gatineau Quebec. At an early age I started listening to vocalists such as Edith Piaff, Tino Rossi, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Anita O'Day, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, and Louis Armstrong.

My very first influence and mentor on guitar was a great guitarist from Gatineau, named Jerry Joly. Other early influences were Scotty Moore, Fran Beecher, Chet Atkins, Les Paul, Tony Romandini, Hank Garland, Django Reinhardt, Dick Garcia, Joe Puma, and last but not least, Barry Galbraith, who, in my books, was the most ADULT picker of them all.

My biggest influence musically, is traditional country music. I was raised with it. Every Saturday night we would gather round the family Philco radio (which I still have, and it sounds exactly as I remember) to listen to "WSM Grand Ole Opry".

I started playing at 18 with "Andy Wilson & the Kosmos" (Rock 'n' Roll). Next I went from Rock to Bluegrass, playing with "Kitty Bass & the Jamboree Pals". Then I joined a lounge band named "Roger Orr & The Latineers". What a headspin that was! After Roger Orr I met Roly Greenway and started "The Ascots" a successful club band from the mid sixties. From the Ascots, I moved to Ronnie Hawkins in 1969. I'd like to give two big thanks there to Richard Bell and Richard Newell - AKA "King Biscuit Boy", for all the patience they showed me, and their considerable talents.

Crowbar(see history) came out of the Hawkins band. I wish could tell some of the stories, BUT WE'RE ALL STILL ALIVE!

After Crowbar, I played with a band called "Faroosh" in Collingwood Ontario. It was very different from Crowbar. Collingwood couldn't keep up with the band's "Heinie" (Heineken) habit. we drank the place we played out of Heineken every week for the first month we were there.

How do you write a short biography about 42 years in the bizz? Twelve of those years were spent playing with Harold Macintyre one of my favourite vocalists, people, and a close friend.
