Scat the Cat

Once upon a time there was a little black cat whose name was Scat the Cat. One day he looked around and saw that all his brothers and sisters where black too. He thought he would like to be some other color. So he sat up proud and said, "I'm Scat the Cat, I'm Sassy and fat, and I can change my color just like that! (snap fingers)
All of a sudden, at the snap of his fingers, he was a green cat. Green like the leaves and green like the grass. He went out to play with his friends, and what do you think happened? His friends did not see him because he was just the same color as the grass and the trees. He was so disappointed. He didn't think it was fun at all to be a green cat. So: (all join in) "I'm Scat the cat, I'm sassy and fat and I can change my color just like that!" (snap fingers)
And then what color was he? He was blue all over. Blue like the water, blue like to sky. He was so proud of his pretty new color that he decided he would take a walk and let everyone admire him.
But do you know what happened? He came to a little pond of water. He leaned way over to look at himself and - kerplop! Splash into the pond he went. Right down into the deep blue water and back up to the surface. Poor little Scat the cat had not learned how to swim. He was frightened. He called for help. He called so loudly that his friends heard him. They ran to the pond and looked down into the blue water. They could not see him because he was blue like the water.
It just so happened that his friend, Timothy turtle came swimming by. He told Scat the Cat to climb up on his back. Then Timothy turtle carried him safely back to the shore. Scat the cat was so grateful. He thanked his friend over and over again for saving his life. Right there he decided never to take a chance like that again. He thought he had been blue long enough so he said: "I'm Scat the cat. I'm sassy and fat and I can change my color just like that! (snap fingers)
And what color was he then? He was yellow - yellow like the sun. He was very proud of his new color. He decided that he would talk a walk through the jungle.
Whom do you suppose he met in the jungle? He met his cousin Leo, the lion. Leo the lion looked at Scat the cat and said, "What are you doing in that yellow coat? I'm the only animal in the jungle that is supposed to be yellow!" Leo the lion growled a growl so fiercely that Scat the cat was frightened, so frightened that he ran all the way home. As soon as he was able to catch his breath, he said:
"I'm Scat the cat. I'm sassy and fat and I can change my color just like that!(snap fingers)
And what color was he then? He was red - red like an apple. He decided he would go out and play with his brothers and sisters and friends.
What do you suppose happened? When his friends and brothers and sisters saw him, they all stopped playing and stared at him. Then they started laughing and making fun of him. "Whoever heard of a red cat?" Do you think they were polite cats? No, they were not. They wouldn't play with him - they just kept laughing.
Scat the cat felt embarrassed and a little sad. Soon he started thinking, and went off by himself. He decided he didn't want to be a red cat anymore, nor a yellow cat. And he didn't want to be a blue cat anymore, because he might not be so lucky next time to have Timothy turtle help him. He didn't want to be green - because he would be like the grass and trees, and none of his friends would see him.
But do you know what he thought? He thought he would just be himself, a pretty black cat like his brothers and sisters and friends - and he would have lots of friends to play with. So after that, Scat the cat was always happy being himself - a black cat.
