Celebrate Grandparent's Day!!
1) Plan a visit or luncheon inviting the grandparents of your daycare children or other elderly people in your area. Prepare a small snack, play games, sing with them, have them read a story, fix snack together, put on a puppet show or play for them, etc. Everyone will enjoy it!!
2) Suggested Reading:
Remember Me by Margaret Wild
Our Granny by Margaret Wild
Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox
What! Cried Granny by Kate Lum and Adrin Johnson
3) See previous page and click under "Father's Day". A lot of
those activities and art projects can be changed to fit for
Grandparent's Day.
4) Song....
As Grandma sits in her rocking chair,
She goes Rock, rock, rock, rock.(sing slowly while rocking back and forth very slowly while sitting)
But when I sit in my rocking chair,
I go rockity, rockity rock! Rockity, rockity rock!(sing faster as you rock back and forth
very quickly)
Repeat using Grandpa instead of Grandma.
5) Surprise Grandma or Grandpa at work with a phone call or email!!!
6) Make up a booklet for each child or family to give to
their Grandparents (have plenty since there may be more than 2 sets
of Grandparents including Great-grandparents)
Things you may want to include in each one..... child's handprint
and age on one of the pages, a favorite poem, Grandma's cookie recipe
as told by the child, a picture of the child, a picture drawn by the
child, pictures of what the child does at daycare - most have
probably never seen where their grandchild attends daycare, a list of
things the child likes to do at Grandma's or Grandpa's house, a
pressed flower with a poem, coupons Grandma or Grandpa can cut out
good for hugs, kisses, help, overnight stay, etc.....,
7) Make up a cookie recipe jar. Grandma and/or Grandpa can help the child
make cookies next time he/she visits. A poem to go with....
Cookies are my favorite
But you already know.
I can't wait to make them
When Grandma's house I go!!
or
These cookies will be so special
Because special hands will make them.
