*****A game an on-line friend by the name of Sandy shared. Thanks Sandy! "It's called the Alphabet Ghost. You'll need flash cards of any letters you want to review. Begin with 5 face up on the floor. Ask the children to study the letters. Then have the children who are sitting in a circle turn to face the outside of the circle. Sing the following song while taking 1 of the flash cards and sticking it under your bottom. (Tune: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.) The ghost flies in right through the door and hunts for letters on the floor. He grabs them quick and hides them well Where he hides them he won't tell Off he goes to wait some more for letters lying on the floor The children turn around a guess what letter is missing. This comes from a book titled "The Learning Circle" by Patty Claycomb." ***** Use these next few pages to print out the letters to show to the children, or use them as part of the first project on this page. Block Letters to Print.... (Hint - Click on link below of the letter you'd like to print. Once it's loaded completely, right click over top of the letter. Choose the option " Save picture As" and save to your computer. Once on your computer you can open it, resize it, etc. That way, none of the ads will be on the print out or other things you may not want.) "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" or "Chicka Chicka ABC" by John Archambault. My daycare kids also love this book, so I think we'll try this one too!
From Pam......Chicka, Chicka Trees - Each child brings in a paper towel tube. We paint it brown and let it dry. Then we use green tissue paper strips to create branches. Using Alpha Bits cereal, we glue letters onto our trees. A parent even suggested gluing small brown pompom (coconuts) to the top. My students love this project. With a bit of clay/playdough to anchor the tree to a cardboard base, they stand on their own. We love this project and have lots of fun retelling the story.
