The original poster said the way to do it was for Sonny to "win" this one. I disagree, first and foremost, because I personally believe that Sonny "won" that round. Brenda chose him, and then he left. I still maintain that Brenda would be on an island sipping margaritas with Sonny had he not left her at the altar.
But rehashing the past isn't the point of this post.:)
If you will, indulge me as I explain how a Carly/Jax pairing has the chance to be something completely and totally original despite Carly being an ex of Sonny's. Let's all take a closer look ... In the past, Jax has been pretty much defined by the woman he was involved with. His entire storyline has revolved around that romance, and how it affected the woman.
Brenda - It was her story. She was the one caught between the love of her life and the love of her future. We saw her ups and downs. Her innermost thoughts and feelings. Jax was a but a bit player in one of the most powerful triangles of all time.
Miranda - For the brief stint she was on the show, Miranda's storyline revolved around her feelings for Jax. And while an attempt was made to show Jax's point of view on seeing the wife he believed died many years before, it really became more about Brenda's reaction to Miranda's presence. More than anything, Miranda was used as a pawn to push Sonny and Brenda closer to a reunion.
Chloe - While, I freely admit I fastforward-ed a lot of their story, I did watch enough to realize that this relationship to focused mainly on Chloe. The entire Mixed Marrieds storyline was about her family and business woes. And then she attracted the attention of the Cassidines with her mysterious dreams.
Alexis - While married to Alexis, Jax dealt with significant his family issues. And it was refreshing to see. But even still, so much of this was focused on Chloe and her growing relationship with Jax. His relationship with Chloe (and protecting her interests) were the reason Jax and Alexis got married. And even his return, was all about Alexis, and reuniting her with Kristina.
Kristina - His involvement with her is solely based on her connection to Alexis. She's Alexis' sister, which is the only reason they are now friends. Otherwise, she wouldn't be in town.
In all of these storylines with these women, Jax has been a relative supporting actor. He's propped their stories. He's been their friend. Their constant. Their lover. Their hero. Their savior. Their everything.
But who has been his?
For all accounts and purposes, Brenda has been the great love of his life. Her life was enriched by knowing him. And so have/were the lives of all the other women listed above. He was there for them through everything. But who was there for him? Have we even been allowed to see someone be there for Jax? Has even been that fleshed out? The only woman that has ever put everything aside to be there for Jax the way he's been there for every other woman was V. And we all remember how that panned out? Long story short ... It didn't.
It's time for a relationship to focus on his feelings.
All of the women that Jax has loved, have left him in some form or another. For all the hell he gives Sonny about Sonny's wives not surviving because of Lily's death, Jax is the one who should have the complex. He believed Miranda was dead for years. She briefly resurfaced and now she's gone. Brenda is dead. Chloe is dead. That has to have some effect on him. Jax should be wary not only of getting hurt again, but of a woman he loves dying.
We need to see this. This relunctance that should exist inside of him. I say, it's time for Jax's story. Time for him to be the focus. Time for someone to put him first. To be his hero.
That someone is Carly. For all of her faults, one thing cannot be questioned. Carly is strong. And she is especially strong for her love and in her love. She doesn't waver. Her resolve is tough. Contrary to popular belief, she is devoted and loyal. And she knows how to be a friend. It's not about the material things that she could give him, because his outnumber hers by far. It's about the emotional things.
Skye has the emotional depth of a child. Courtney is a child. Alexis is gaga over Sonny. Carly can provide Jax with the sense of family, something he holds extremely valuable, as does she. Nothing comes before family for Carly. Jax feels the same way.
Skye is trying to screw hers over. Courtney just met hers. And Alexis...well, she's a Cassidine. LOL! So, before you disregard Carly and Jax, Indulge Me and take a closer look!
Terri

Previous Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"He's Not Perfect ... and Has Chinks in His Armor"
By Kathleen -- posted on Soap Zone General Hospital Message Board

[In] the earlier days of the Jax and Brenda relationship, Brenda described Jax's ways of looking at life to Sonny. She remarked how she viewed the world as ''seeing the glass as half empty'' but that ''Jax, not only sees the glass as half full, but sees it as potentially overflowing.''
To me, this was one of the biggest gifts Jax gave Brenda (and other people in his life) as he gave her the love, trust and space to see the world in a different way and discover parts of herself she never knew existed. He could see people and opportunities for what their potential could be and was nurturing enough to let them blossom into magnificence. Although not in a romantic sense at this point at least, he is giving Carly the trust and space now to begin to see a dream she never thought was possible.
I will be the first to admit that the Jax has been written at points where his nurturing falls into a 'rescue complex' discussion. That would be much more productive if we ever could learn why he falls into that tendency at points but that is for another discussion (as well as for another soap since General Hospital has no desire to show us anything to understand the make-up of his character.) *Sigh*
He's not perfect, thankfully, and has chinks in his armor like all the rest. As he told Brenda years ago, those chinks give one power and they certainly work for me. *G*
Kathleen

Previous Essay | Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"Jax a Jerk? But as a die-hard Jax/Brenda fan from the beginning, I don't see Jax that way at all and I never have. For one thing, I've never heard him call any woman a "whore" or anything close to it.
A little background to contrast the differences between Sonny and Jax, vis-a-vis their relationships with the women they love...
Around Sonny, Brenda was a desperate and immature girl, with serious self-esteem problems, who spent much of her time apologizing for being who she was and pathetically demeaning herself to get his attention and win his "love." Why? Because Sonny wielded his "approval" and so-called "love" as weapons, and if she did something he disapproved of, then he withheld them. Communication and trust? Non-existent. Sonny spent most of their time together trying to sidestep any discussion of his feelings, his fears, his childhood demons...lest Brenda gain any insight into Sonny the human being, the person inside. Friendship? Hardly. Sonny & Brenda, for all their passion, were addicted to each other.... In my opinion, Sonny loved Brenda as much as he was capable of, but he never acted as if he LIKED her.
Jax, on the other hand, brought out the very best in Brenda. He was generous, kind, loving, and supportive. She became more confident around him because she felt accepted for herself. She didn't have to carry around that burden of fear that if she ever made a misstep and revealed that she was (heaven forbid!) human, that he wouldn't love her anymore. He was, first and foremost, Brenda's FRIEND. She knew he would be there for her no matter what, with no judgments. When she told him she was going to leave him and re-unite with Sonny, even though his heart was breaking, he didn't lash out at her in anger. When Sonny left her at the altar and Brenda started coming undone, Jax (still deeply wounded from Brenda choosing Sonny) was there for her as a friend, because he understood that a FRIEND was what she needed. He always put Brenda's needs ahead of his own.
As far as Carly goes, Sonny was abominable to her when she was with Jason...he treated Carly like dirt under his shoe. Disrespect doesn't even come close to describing it. And then once they got together and he supposedly loved her, he fell back into the same patterns he had exhibited with Brenda. Jax? Well you've seen for yourself how Jax interacts with Carly. How he treats her. How he talks to her.
So your friends may think Jax is a jerk. But I guess I'm just using a different dictionary from them.
GelatoRiso

Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

 Caroline 'Carly' Benson-Corinthos Essays

Carly Handles Her Own Business ~ Jax Respects and Trusts That ... Carly just lights up around Jax! She smiles effortlessly around him, and it's such a pleasure to see after years of downtroddeness. :) Anyway, beyond just the pleasure of seeing them on my screen, there were two specific things that I really, really liked about them today:
1. Carly Turned To JAX When She Needed Someone
She's pissed off. She doesn't know who or what to trust. She's hurting. And she picks up the phone and calls... JAX. :) Granted, Carly doesn't have a lot of options, but I grinned heartily when she dialed Jax's number (from memory) and left that "get your arse over here right now!" message. Ever so slightly, she's already starting to count on him.
2. Carly Handles Her Own Business and Jax Accepts It
First, I just want to cheer the continued independent spirit that Carly is displaying as of late. She's always been a go getter of sorts, but typically, she went about it the wrong way. It's great to see her stand on her own two feet and do so willingly. Skye has got Jax so wrapped up in being her "white knight" through manipulation, that it has once again become second nature for him to automatically reach out and try and stop a woman from hurting.
But Carly refused him. Deciding instead to fight her own battles. And the amazing, yet wonderful thing, is that Jax not only accepts it, but respects it. He trusts her to be able to make her own choices, even when he doesn't like the choices. How nice is that? Carly hasn't had that since Jason.
And it's not just in her personal life either. See, an argument can be made that he would have no say in that department regardless. But it's not in just that department. He trusts her business instincts as well. He's allowed her to develop her dream freely. And she needed that. Jax gives Carly a vote of confidence all the time, without ever saying a word.
As a Carly fan, you gotta love that. I know I do! :)
Terri

Previous Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"Is Jax Strong Enough To Be Carly's Man?"
By Terri -- posted on Soap Zone General Hospital Message Board

As I was thinking of a song for my first Carly/Jax slideshow, I decided on Sheryl Crow's "Strong Enough." The song begs the question, "Are you strong enough to be my man?"
And I found this fitting, because I've always thought Carly needed a strong man in her life. That's why I've always been against a Carly/AJ pairing, because he's a pretty weak character. As was Tony Jones. They may be all around, decent people (General Hospital standard wise), but a tower of strength, they were not, emotionally or physically.
Sonny, while capable of physical strength and the appearance of power, emotionally he is as needy as Carly. And to make matters worse, he is sometimes incapable of emotional availability. For a long time, I thought Jason was the man for Carly. He understood her, and never tried to change her. He was a rock for her, whenever she needed one. And at the time, he was the best thing in the world. Carly was weaker then, because she had Jason to fall back on for anything she needed. He represented that pillar of strength.
Carly's relationship with Sonny has made her a stronger person overall. This is evident especially in recent weeks. Whereas before she would run to Jason and expect him to fix things, she couldn't do that with Sonny. One, because it would always make him angry. And two, because sometimes he wasn't in the emotional place to fix it.
So, now she looks to herself. Which is the way it's supposed to be. And for that I'm thrilled.
Enter Jasper Jax. This man has made a living of being a knight in shining armor. A man who rescuses damsels in distress, and then charms them over dinners flown in from the world, or flies them to other cities just to eat. A woman in pain was like an aphrodisiac to him that he couldn't resist.
Carly rebuffed this side of him. She didn't want to be rescued. She didn't need it. She needed a partner. An equal. Not someone to take care of her. And she has gained his respect because of it. She's not trying to play childish games and pout her way into his life (unlike a certain redhead). The one day he suspected that she wasn't serious about this business venture, he told her plain and simple that he wasn't having it. That he didn't have time for games, and that he wouldn't enable nor put up with her temper tantrums. And he hasn't had to.
They've talked things out, without either giving too much. They've come to mutual understandings about things they'll never agree on (Sonny). And although others have defended her to AJ before, unlike them, Carly was right when she told Jax today he didn't have to. They aren't involved. They aren't really even friends yet - though it is most definitely developing. He owes her nothing outside of their business arrangement, yet he did it without hesitation.
He's apologized for previously misjudging her. And she to him. They've decided to leave the past in the past. And even though they keep saying this is strictly business, it's obvious, things are definitely getting a little personal.
So, is Jax strong enough to be Carly's man? To be able to accept her, yet not enable her? To respect and trust her? Oh, yes, I think so. He's definitely made a believer out of me. :)
Terri

Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

Episode Essays

And the Good Start Gets Better ... (a bit late, I know, but I finally got around to editing my scenes! These are pretty much ONLY CarJax scenes.)

Jax is SO disinterested in Skye. So business-like, so blah about her, it's not even funny. Uhm, actually, it is funny.

"What is she doing here?" Gosh, I love catty Carly.

Dude, that was so a diss. (To Carly) "It's nothing that can't wait." (To Skye) "I'll be in touch." His attitude pretty much said, "Skye, get lost."

Yeah, I like the curly hair on Carly and Jax's hair looks much better. Much.

Loved this: "... but you are the only person I listen to," and then his laughing response, "I doubt that," followed by her oh so sincere, "but it's true, God knows why, but it's true." And then finally his "Come on, Carly."
#1 - It IS true. I've never seen her listen to anyone the way she does Jax. Of course, Jax treats her better than anyone else -- he trusts her judgement, respects her opinions, therefore she knows he means what he says and is not just trying to shut or put her down.
#2 - That "come on, Carly" was just so darn boyishly cute.

She DOES destroy her dreams. Sigh, Carly.

Gosh, that "don't tell anyone" of hers was so cute too -- almost conspiratorial. I just LOVE these two together.

Business, schmusiness -- they are SO seeping into one another's personal lives.

I loved the "spare me the charm" exchange on both ends (just delightful), but I got to say, I've seen Jax much more charming.

"Did you spend Christmas alone?" They are just beautifully opening up to one another in small increments that are natural and unforced. Lord, who is writing for these two? They are just so completely working. Every scene, every line, every moment, every nuance and interaction between the two just flies, floats, sings, sighs and soars. I've never seen the like so quickly displayed on screen. You'd think that Tamara Braun and Ingo Rademacher had been working together for years. And back to the beauty of their opening up. Jax showed a vulnerable, aching side to Carly that he has shown only four people since he came to Port Charles: Brenda (the love of his life), Chloe, his steady girlfriend (and that took a while), Alexis (his wife and probably best friend) and of course, his brother Jerry. I would say that he didn't really let it out so openly and honestly with either V or Ned. But with Carly, someone he has known for a much shorter period of time, he has opened up in such a -- I keep using the word beautiful, but it simply is because it just fits -- beautiful way. There is a symmetry and a beauty in their scenes that can't be articulated ... it just is.

Carly: "You call that a life?" Jax: "It's all I've got at that moment." Who didn't want to just reach in to the screen and hug him and take his pain away? Carly, hug him!

I love that she straight out said it's her selfish need to have him there, his plans bedamned. I also liked the "I'll swear in a court of law, I never said that." Hehehehehe.
He stayed for Carly! He stayed for Carly! He stayed for Carly!

The whole light fixture exchange was just too cute for words. Gosh, these two just work so durn well together. Rademacher and Braun have an excellent chemistry, timing, flow and rhythm to their scenes. Just amazing. Another example is the "Shame on me" comment that sorta overlapped her line naturally, as was the "my club makes you uncomfortable," "no, it doesnt." Just a nice, easy rhythm so there and lovely to watch in their scenes. The CarJax scenes are like skilled ballet, poetry in motion so to speak ... full of style and beauty and a grace that is captured by so very few and these two have it down pat.

Hmm, you know, I like to check out the before and after scenes regarding my couple because it gives an indication sometimes of the direction of the story and someone had claimed that all of the "hope/romance" scenes were followed by Courtney. Uhm, no they weren't. The only scene that was followed by Skipper was actually her on the side in the car with the focus on Zander and AJ arguing, and the only scene that was preceded by a Skipper scene was one with Mike and Sonny and the shot ended on Sonny. And honestly, the only connecting of scenes were the ones followed by Skye, and there were actually only a few of those. Okay, just an observation ... moving along.

Did anyone else really, really want Carly to place her hand over Jax's heart instead of her own when she referenced that organ? I know I did. A lot. Oh well.

Uhm, you know, I LOVE Jax and Brenda. I'm a huge JnB fan, but I don't get comments like AJ's "Sonny took the woman you love" because, actually, it was the other way around. Sure, he did once upon a time, but in the end, Brenda chose Jax. Brenda told Jax, "nobody leaves" and she meant it (well, until her crazy mother drove her off a cliff, but that's not the point). She was completely, absolutely, 100% WITH Jax. So, how did Sonny take her? Again, in the end ... Jax, got the girl. Those comments bug me.

Loved the smirk on Carly's face when she sidled up next to Jax and met AJ's surprised face.

If only they were sleeping together. Sigh.

I love how Jax turns to look at Carly when she speaks, clearly listening to her.

I liked the way Tamara said, "sister Skye," and "big, bad Sonny." It was just cool.

Okay, AJ says to Carly: "Sonny threw you out just like I did. Jason, Tony, all the others." Uhm, What others? Jason, Tony, AJ, Sonny -- yeah, that would be it.

I love the sudden hardness in Jax's voice with "not that I recall" when AJ comments that Jax owes him. I just love when the cold, cutthroat businessman comes out. It's just cool. I really like Ingo Rademacher and his Jax. Gotta go with Katrina over at Eye on GH -- Jax IS just so damned cool!

"I don't have much use for violence...." Very true. If he did, he would have flattened Sonny like a pancake on several occasions.

He called her a lady!

Twice!!

What an apology. Shyeah, right.

Carly: "Let's get back to work." Jax: "Not til I know that you're okay." Oh, my heart just sighed. I mean, oh man! Oh man, oh man, oh man. How beautiful was that? I mean, he genuinely cared that Carly was okay. I know that that is just Jax, but still. I can imagine the other men in her life reacting.
Jason: blank stare (which says, Carly, if you need to talk I'm here).
Carly: I'm fine.
Jason: blank stare (which says, if that's what you say, I won't push) Okay.
Sonny: (testy about AJ and not really paying attention to Carly) Yeah, fine.
End of discussion.

Carly: "You don't have to." Jax: "Yes, I did." Sigh, be still my beating heart. I LOVE THEM!!!!
JenniferH.

Previous Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"Getting the Holiday Off to a Good Start"
By JenniferH. -- posted on Carly & Jax = Fusion Main Discussion Forum Message Board

This will just be a random thoughts post .... (a bit late, I know, but I finally got around to editing my scenes! These are pretty much ONLY CarJax scenes.)

Hmm, Jax and Mike don't like each other ... I've watched sporadically the last few Jax years, any particular reason or just, you know, Sonny?

Uhhm, I HATE Jax's hair in these eps. Did he just get out of bed and decide, 'The face is gorgeous enough, who needs to worry about hair?'

Wouldn't the Armani business suit have been rather appropriate when meeting city officials?

Love how Jax's charm is equal opportunity when it comes to the sexes. As he sought to appease the city weasel (works for me), the twinkle, charming smile and soothing voice were in full effect.

I do like Tamara, but I've noticed that in her longer speeches, she tends to have odd pauses as if she is scrambling for the next word, line. Ah well, she's got the attitude down pat.

Will we see Carly (cough, cough, Leticia, cough, cough) take Michael to that park that was once a heaping pile of nothing?

"The voters ... they're gonna love ya for that." GREAT delivery!

Dude, how much brown-nosing has that zoning official done? He's sure good at it.

"A little off-script..." How cute!

I REALLY hate his hair.

God, I love that blooming glow that just suffused her as Jax complimented her 'outburst,' pointing out why it worked. Has ANYONE ever seen the positives so clearly in Carly? And this is coming from a MAJOR Jason/Carly fan.

Hehehehe, "Jax-speak."

(Next episode) Tamara does a lovely, natural job of talking to herself ... something that a lot of actors don't.

Love, love, love her speechless reaction to the champagne delivery. Love the champagne delivery.

Oh my GOD! The way Jax walked into the office and leaned against the door. Yowza! If that wasn't an actor's choice, I'd be shocked and if it was ... dude, Ingo Rademacher SOOO wants a romantic entanglement with Carly for Jax. Oh, yeah baby.

I still hate his hair.

Uhm, she says, "How did you do this?" He explains and then she says, "I know, but why?" as if clarifying. I'm confused -- how and why are two separate things. Hmmm.

"Hanging stockings by the chimney with care," love how they took the line from the poem. Cute. But, wow, she waited till Christmas Eve to do that? Okay.

It's sad that Jax knows he has to clarify right away that his "no ordinary mother" statement was a compliment. And just as sad is that suspicion is on Carly's face that it wasn't. Man, Carly really needs Jax to soothe and ease all those years of ill treatment she has received from the hands of the man who have 'loved' her.

"I thought we planned to keep business and personal separate." Yeah, Jax. (Not that I'm complaining.) "Oh, no." Yeah, right Jax ... flowers, candles and champagne are a real business like-ambience. (Not that I'm complaining.)

The reaction to the gift was hysterical. "What's that?" like it's a bomb or something.

Loved the delivery of "Oh my God, Jax!" Loved the hug. Damn, they look SO good and RIGHT in each other's arms.

I still hate his hair.

She invited him to the hospital even knowing that Sonny would be there and that shows that she wasn't even thinking of Sonny at all. She was with Jax, thinking only of Jax. Sigh.

I loved that sweet, "Hey, merry Christmas, Jax," before she left. But oh, Jax looked so alone and sad when she left. Carly, come back!
JenniferH.

Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

Storyline Essays

Something More ... And, he does acknowledge and work with character history. And while I never would have thought it before their scenes, I must say that Carly with her past, and Jax with his really and truly could be a match made in heaven.
Carly is more free, fresher, lighter and all-around happier with Jax. She smiles, she laughs, she dances. She feels comfortable talking with him, she respects him and his privacy. He literally seems to bring out her best qualities and thus she is coming across as the best person she can be when she is with him.
Jax is, like-wise, free, fresh, light and happy around her. He smiles, his eyes twinkle deliciously so. He seems to take true pleasure in making her smile (much like he did so much with Brenda, and to a lesser degree, Chloe and Alexis). He honestly likes Carly. She gets to him, she makes him talk and admit things that thus far he has only done so to Alexis -- probably the person he is closest with on the planet now that Brenda is gone and Jerry is off being a fugitive. She relaxes him, eases him, and he is able to play the Knight in Shining Armor role (which he loves so), but in a supporting way, much like he did in the second phase of his relationship with Brenda: the part of his relationship that worked out best with her (well, before she drove off of a cliff with her insane mother, but that had nothing to do with Jax).
On-screen, these two seem to be slowly, moving towards one another in a perfect orbit. They began as sorta-enemies, due to their other relations on the show, became grudging, 'I don't hate you, but I still dislike you' acquaintances, and then business partners and now they are becoming friends. And the way she lights up around him and he her, it would make all the sense in the world, for them someday to become something more ... much more.
Carly has always wanted someone to love her, need her, trust and respect her completely -- that is exactly how Jax treats women he is with. She also needs demonstrative affection and openness: another Jax trademark. Jax needs someone that he truly loves to completely choose him, unequivocalbly and without reserve or second thoughts (ala Brenda) ... when Carly loves someone, that is how she loves. When she realized she loved Sonny, she completely did put Jason completely in the past. He became a friend, no lingering feelings. I believe that were she to fall for Jax, it would be the same in regards to Sonny. Especially when she is the recipient of the way that Jax treats women firsthand. When she says 'I love you' to Jax - she will mean it heart and soul. Carly doesn't operate really any other way.
Works for me.
JenniferH.

Previous Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"Why Do I Support CarJax? I was a huge fan of the Carly/Jason dynamic. I loved her attitude. I loved her fights with Robin. Loved her. Loved her. Then she got with Sonny, and while never hating her, I saw more Sarah Brown than I saw Carly. I couldn't watch that.
Then Tamara Braun arrived and I've grown to love her version of Carly, even more than I loved Sarah's version.
Why do I support Carly/Jax? Because she doesn't have to hide her feelings or opinions from him. Because he treats her with respect and like a lady. Because she can speak her mind without fear of reprimand. Because he doesn't and won't tolerate any ''plaaans'' or games from her, so she doesnt' even attempt them. Because they make each other smile, without even intending to. Because they share their thoughts with the other, without even intending to. Because they can acknowledge prior misjudgements and truly leave them in the past beginning with a clean slate. Because they look absolutely beautiful together. (Shallow I know, but true nonetheless). Because Jax doesn't have to rescue her. Because Carly is not looking to Jax to rescue her.
For all those things and everything in between is why I'm a goner over Carly/Jax.
Take A Closer Look.... it's all right there.
Terri

Previous Essay | Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"CarJax are IT!"
By JenniferH. -- posted on Carly & Jax = Fusion Main Discussion Forum Message Board

Yet, another non-CarJax fan has claimed that the growing popularity of CarJax has NOTHING to do with the potential pairing itself, but instead outside factors. And to this I say: No, no, no. WRONG! I am sorry, but this contention is beginning to get annoying. CarJax fans like, nay, LOVE, CarJax because Ingo Rademacher and Tamara Braun have kick-me-in-the-gut, oh my God, knock your socks off, wowza, yowza CHEMISTRY!
It has nothing to do with liking, loving, hating Jax. In fact, most Jax fans who love the pairing, have been fighting it every step of the way due to the possible Sonny/Brenda/Jax redux of a triangle or simply not wanting Jax to get Sonny's 'leftovers' again, but the chemistry between these two is just undeniable ... and even die-hard JnB'ers are caving.
Now, it does have somewhat to do with loving Carly, because many die-hard Carly fans love seeing her with a man who treats her well and DAMN well! But fans who dislike Carly, or Tamara's interpretation (as a die-hard fan of Sarah, I was ready to despise any recast) have been completely won over because of how Carly is in her scenes with Jax.
As for Sexis: I have not met one Sexis fan yet who doesn't love Carjax for themselves. In fact, there are several CarJax fans who dislike the idea of Sexis for whatever reason, and would prefer to like them if it gives CarJax a better chance, but just do NOT give a rat's patootie about the idea of Sonny and Alexis.
The bottom line is that this potential pairing came out of nowhere and grabbed people based on the chemistry and the way Jax treats her ... period. It has nothing to do with any other character and in fact, most (if not ALL) CarJax fans have found themselves, surprised, baffled, downright shocked, fighting it every step of the way about their positive feelings about CarJax.
CarJax are that RARE, RARE pairing on daytime that actually got fans based on the writing for the characters together, the interaction of the two and the kind of chemistry between the actors that can not be bottled, created, or manufactured no matter how many EP's and Head Honchos try. They have IT, are IT and have a growing fanbase because of IT!
JenniferH.

Previous Essay | Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"Take a Closer Look"
By Terri -- posted on Soap Zone General Hospital Message Board

I have been totally and completely swept away by the chemistry between Carly and Jax. And if it were just chemistry alone, I think I could fight it off.
But between these two is just so much potential. Potential for Jax to love again. Potential for Carly to love again. Potential for Jax to laugh again. Potential for Carly to learn that love isn't always accompanied with pain.
Potential for these two to find just what they didn't know they were looking for.
''You wouldn't know hope if it were staying you in the face.''
They need to take a closer look. And so do the fans and TPTB.
The biggest concern for many is that this will be a redux of the Sonny/Brenda/Jax triangle that held this show and it's fans hostage for years, causing pain on both sides, before the story was abruptly cut short by actor departures.
I implore you....Take a closer look ...
Carly isn't Brenda. Sonny didn't leave her standing in the rain. She left him. She doesn't need someone to rescue her. She's rescuing herself. Jax isn't her hero. He's here partner. And fast becoming more... Jax isn't the same fancy-free man he was back then either. He's more guarded. More wary of getting hurt. Carly/Jax isn't about redoing Sonny/Brenda/Jax, or even Jax/Brenda. It's about showing that sometimes losing love can make you stronger than you ever realized you were capable of. It's about moving on, taking one day at a time.
For the first time, Carly is taking life by the reins and playing fair and square. She's being honest with herself, with Jax, and it's paying off. For the first time, she doesn't have to pretend to be someone else. Or apologize for being who she is. She's not being talked down to or ridiculed or being rejected. She's being accepted. Not in spite of who she is, but because she is who she is.
In Carly, Jax is seeing everything he used to possess. A fighting spirit. Charm. Passion. Sure, he still has them on the surface. The man is every bit the gentleman. But in his personal life, he's lost them. Carly's reigniting these qualities within.
She's chipping away at the wall he has around his heart, without trying. She's an unexpected joy in his life. One that he appreciates more and more with each passing moment.
He's taking a closer look. Shouldn't we all? :)
Terri

Previous Essay | Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"With Jax I Adore the Girl"
By Elissa -- posted on General Hospital/Port Charles Discussion Group

I always hated Sonny and Carly. Hated Sarah Brown and Maurice Benard - together, they made me want to throw up. It was visceral. Tamara Braun and Maurice Benard were just so WRONG in every way, nothing about it worked. I didn't dislike Tamara Braun, but thought she lacked a lot, especially in the scenes in October when she was fretting over signing the divorce papers.
What a difference two months make. She is incredibly endearing and wonderful in every scene with Ingo Rademacher. I find myself feeling PROUD of her. I've always liked Jax. I know it's easier to make fun of the character, but he has a light, dry quality I like. Braun's Carly connects with him PERFECTLY. They relate to each other PERFECTLY. She is sympathetic without being cloying. I have always loved how he always choose her over Skye. How he breathes easier around her more than with Skye, and seems to "naturally" prefer her company to Skye's.
He gives her respect - he doesn't smother her, either. It's easier to "see" Tamara Braun and her particular qualities when she's with Ingo Rademacher's Jax. I also like some stuff I see with HIM, when he's with HER. For instance, with Brenda (I LOVED Brenda/Jax) he was always wonderful and understanding. But with Carly, he can be more well-rounded. He can show his pissy, sarcastic side, and she knows exactly how to handle it. He doesn't have to handle her with kid gloves --- just respect. Because he doesn't handle her with kid gloves, she trusts him. She figures if he signs off on something of hers, she can trust that it's good. It's not a gift. She figures if she holds her ground and he gives in, she's safe. She can trust him. He's not (in soap terms) patronizing her. They have great, great chemistry.
In my opinion, General Hospital now has three sets of really good chemistry
1) Maurice Benard/Nancy Lee Grahn
2) Tamara Braun/Ingo Rademacher
3) Jamie Ray Newman/Wally Kurth
My favorites by far are numbers one and two (Sexis and Carjax). I recognize that Kristina/Ned have chemistry, but Carly/Jax and Alexis/Sonny are reasons to tune in. As much as I fast forward Carly with almost everyone else, with Jax I adore the girl. I like everything she does, want her to be happy, and think she's right about everything, every time she's with him, I think she's perfect.
With Sonny/Alexis, I finally start seeing Sonny the way the show wants me to see Sonny. Alexis isn't sweating to make him smile and save him, she does it naturally.
Two unique women/actresses (Tamara Braun/Nancy Lee Grahn) lighting up GH's two marquee leading men. GH got very, very lucky ... especially so with Ingo/Tamara, because they saved their re-cast Carly, and they finally found a non-Alexis leading woman to click with Jax. Let's hope they don't blow it. These two couples are the main reason I watch these days.
Elissa

Previous Essay | Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"Carly needs to say 'Sonny Who?' and fall for Jax"
By Ellen -- posted on Soap Zone General Hospital Message Board

I have really been enjoying the recent Jax and Carly scenes. It's brought out a much more likable Carly than I've seen in a long time. She's still feisty, but she seems to have more warmth and compassion than ever before. And she and Jax appear to be getting genuinely fond of each other. I have had my problems with some of the horrible things the writers have had characters like Carly, Sonny, Jason, Edward, etc do to AJ without ever having to feel bad about it. However, I found myself wanting to shake Jax's hand when he refused to allow AJ to come into his home and insult his guest. AJ simply isn't very smart. Antagonizing the new majority stockholder of ELQ was not a brilliant move. He just can't help acting like a whiner most of the time. But lashing out at Carly in front of a man he knows to be a veritable *white knight* made me shake my head and hope that Jax would knock him on his rear end.
I don't know if General Hospital will go anywhere with Jax/Carly, but they would if they were smart. Tamara Braun is much more enjoyable to me when she's in scenes with Ingo Rademacher. Let Sonny pound his fists and stammer about betrayal until Hell freezes over. I'll take Jax any day, and if Carly has grown the way the writers want us to believe, she would too. She's been the only one who's taken the time to notice how lonely Jax is and how empty his Christmas was. With Alexis spending almost all of her time gushing over Sonny, Carly has eclipsed her as Jax's closest friend in town. Here's hoping there's a chance for more.
Ellen

Previous Essay | Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"I'm Thoroughly Enjoying Carly and Jax"
By Terri -- posted on Soap Zone General Hospital Message Board

In reply to: Are Carly/Jax fans only liking them cause they want Sonny/Alexis?
Moody wrote: Yeah, I know that there are some Carly fans who are in awe of Jax' s ability to tell AJ off, to treat Carly respectfully and to trust her enough to fund a business for her. WOW! what a great man but reality check, Sonny has done all this and MORE for Carly. I know, he' s being a first class prick these days in regards to Carly, but do people really think Jax is going to ever be a 100%, grade A defender of Carly?
Actually, Sonny never fully trusted Carly enough to fund a business. That's why he gave half to Laura. This club is all Carly's, thanks to Jax. Sonny is just starting to treat Carly respectfully after over 2 years of being involved with her. Jax did it off the bat. Yes, Sonny has defended her to people. She was his wife and the mother of his child. He had better stood up for her. Jax doesn't have any of those ties to Carly. Yet, he still defended her to AJ, without hesitation. Carly DESERVES that. Especially after all this time.
Moody wrote: He has loyalty to the very person that most S&C fans are having a difficult time with now: ALEXIS. Do people think that Jax will dump Alexis, tell her to shut her mouth, get rid of her for Carly?
Jax and Alexis are friends. Would he ever tell her to shut her mouth? No, because that's just rude. But he would tell her that he didn't need or want to hear her opinion on Carly, unless she wanted him to start giving his opinion on her relationship with Sonny.
Moody wrote: In fact, I imagine that if Jax and Carly ever got together, Carly would be in the same boat she was in with Sonny whenever Alexis came around.
No. And what boat is that? Jax wouldn't send Carly to her room. That right there is a step up.
Moody wrote: As for Jax telling AJ off today, correct me if I have this wrong, but isn' t Jax in league with Skye knowing that she's in league with AJ? Wasn't that whole ELQ stuff a way to give it to Sonny and give AJ a little more power (I know that both Skye and Jax gained too but& )? Isn't AJ's whole deal in this Skye thing a way for him to hurt Carly and by Jax helping them isn't he facilitating AJ's dream of hurting Carly? So if AJ gets his way, won't Jax be partially responsible for the skye falling in on Carly?
Actually no. Jax got in it for the money and also because he's wanted ELQ for a long time. And because Skye appealed to the side of him that still holds Sonny responsible for hurting Brenda. However, you forget, there was a scene before the board meeting between Jax and AJ at Kelly's, where Jax TOTALLY dissed AJ then and there. He has absolutely NO use for him at all.
Moody wrote: There once was a man who was hurt by a woman and he in turn hurt the woman back. The woman felt destroyed and along came another man and picked up the pieces.
But that's not happening here. Jax isn't picking up the pieces of Carly's life. SHE's doing it herself. There's the difference. She doesn't want or need to be rescued. Her main goal now is to stand on her own two feet, and Jax (and Sonny) is respecting that. Moody wrote: QUIZ& Is the woman in my story Brenda or Carly?
Carly is not Brenda. She's ten times stronger than Brenda ever was. And this is coming from someone who LOVED Sonny and Brenda.
Moody wrote: Are Carly fans really excited about Carly getting Brenda's old stories? Jax is helping Carly because he likes to pick up the pieces Sonny leaves behind, he fashions himself a modern day knight, rescuing women from the clutches of the big bad dragon (Sonny). Wonderful, Carly is now a 2nd class character getting old scripts for stories!
This isn't Brenda's old stories. As someone who has loved Carly since way back in 1996, I'm THRILLED that she's finally allowed to achieve some growth and that she's not chasing after a man. This really is the first time ever that we've seen her even attempt to be independent. Jax is helping Carly because she intrigues him. And because the club will make him money. The fact that Carly says she wants to get away from Sonny (business side) is just icing on the cake. Let's not forget, that Carly told Jax that Sonny was going to be in her life, and that it was none of his business.
PLUS, Jax isn't wasting his time badmouthing Sonny like he did with Brenda.
Terri

Previous Essay | Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"Completely RIGHT"
By Shelby Miller -- posted on Soap Zone General Hospital Message Board

In reply to: Are Carly/Jax fans only liking them cause they want Sonny/Alexis?
Not me. I'd be happy to say Carly just doesn't work anywhere if that were true. That was kind of how I felt originally. As far back as October, I thought she wasn't much improved (there are a couple of scenes in particular where I thought she was overwhelmed by too much dialogue and the wrong notes to play). Martinique didn't change my mind - to say the least.
I really think the very first time I thought she had possibilities was when she walked into Jax's apartment and took off her red coat. Now, granted, she interrupted Skye and Jax, whom I LOATHE. I hate their dynamic, and hate having Skye anywhere near him. This was one instance when what I thought of as Tamara Braun's cooler, more contained qualities would be refreshing. But as those sequences played out, I wanted Skye gone, and I wanted SONNY gone, and I basically wanted Carly back in the room to continue her conversation with Jax. And the weirdest thing that sealed it for me was the musical montage at the end, when Carly walked out of Jax's apartment door, and waited for him. He emerged, and they walked off together. There was something so RIGHT about the way they looked. I have almost never seen two people who LOOK so right together. They look like they belong only with each other. I think it's the energy coming off them, and their inner rhythms (for instance, their inner rhythm of response to Skye's cell phone). Neither one is the break a sweat type, but they have a sweet side. But a dry side too, to prevent stuff from getting too cutesy or icky.
Every scene they have had since has been a must see. I liked their ''I want you to finance my club'' initial contacts. I liked when he danced with her. And I LOVED their last two blocks of scenes. The two episodes they just did. It was the best, most charming acting TB has ever done, and I could cite moments to make a nine paragraph post.
Also, we haven't had Sexis for two days, and I missed them, and Carjax carried me thru. I read the board before I watch my tape, and I was thinking, oh great, Mike/Sonny, betrayed, Gia/Nik/Lucky blah blah blah. Ff episode. Then I read Carjax was on and I thought -- SAVED!
Look, I don't want her with ZANDER. Of course it is great to have her parked somewhere with another guy, even better another leading man (although if I didn't think they had chemistry, I'd prefer that guy not be Jax), get her out of S&C's way. But after seeing her with Jax, it really matters to me that she's with HIM. Not with Zander. Not with AJ. Not with any new guy. HIM. It's been forever since Jax had a decent pairing, and he and Carly are completely RIGHT.
Shelby Miller

Previous Essay | Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"Why a CarJax Relationship Doesn't Have to be a Jax/Brenda/Sonny Redux"
By JenniferH. -- posted on Carly & Jax = Fusion Main Discussion Forum Message Board

Everyone keeps supposing that if Jax and Carly were to get together, it would be a redux of the Jax/Brenda/Sonny trianlge, but I disagree. I feel that just because it is the same characters doesn't mean that it will be the same story. Jax is different from the Jax he was six years ago, as is Sonny, and Carly is NOT Brenda. And by the nature of their relationships with one another, the twists would have to be dissimilar as well.
Sonny's relationship with Carly is completely different than it was with Brenda; he and Carly are divorced and more connected by Michael than anything else now (although, the love they still obviously share is a factor, it appears to me one that is fading into the past). That alone will make his attitude and reaction to Jax very different from what it was in regards to Brenda.
Jax is different as well, older, less boyish and vulnerable. True, he still is the wonderful, romantic, dashing, charming, beautiful Jax again (in scenes with Carly especially) that was so lacking in scenes with Chloe and now, Skye, but he also is more cautious and prone to be more careful with his heart. We won't see a Jax rushing headlong into the fray with his heart on his sleeve as he did time and time again with Brenda.
And there are other equations:
1. Jax was almost Carly's step-uncle and Carly didn't like Jerry. Imagine, if Jerry came back in the picture ... that would create a family dynamic completely devoid of Sonny. Plus, how would John and Lady Jane react to having a grandchild (sorta) in their midst? How would, could that impact a CarJax relationship?
2. Brenda was the 'other woman' to Sonny and she was so young and naive in many ways when Jax and her began. Carly is the 'wife,' has a child and has lived through hell and back with more than one man. She has a strength and will of steel that Brenda didn't gain until after her breakdown.
3. Alexis may very well be a factor in the equation as well. She and Jax are very, very close and she and Carly are not. She will be caught between loyalites. Loyalty to Jax in wanting to see him happy, but worried that Carly will cause him pain. Loyalty to his memory of Brenda that she may fear he is trying to relive through Carly and her connection to Sonny. Loyalty to her friendship with Chloe, with whom Jax last had a relationship. Loyalty to her own heart for believing that if anyone could steal Carly completely away from Sonny, it is Jax, thus leaving Sonny open and vulnerable to her. And finally, loyalty to her friendship with Sonny and how this would hurt him.
4. Michael: Jax has never been involved with a woman who has a child. In fact, as far as I know, other than maybe a brief meeting with BrookLyn, he has never been involved with children on the show period. So, if Jax and Carly were to get involved, there would be the whole Michael angle (yes, yet another daddy for little Michael!). Jax dealing with the prospect of being a father figure to a child, Jax dealing with kids and the fact of having kids himself some day.
The bottom-line is that there are so many different angles and different facets to a potential CarJax pairing that were NOT there with the Jax and Brenda pairing, that even with the recycling abiliites of JFP and McT, it would damn near be impossible to recreate the Jax/Brenda/Sonny triangle.
Finally, if the Bob Guza rumor is true that is definitely a good thing. We have the simple fact that CarJax is DEFINITELY getting attention and a new regime very well may fly with what is working and I have hope for CarJax with Guza in charge. I do sense a similarity to these CarJax scenes that I did to the J&B scenes in that Ingo Rademacher and Vanessa Marcil didn't have the romantic vibe in the beginning.
I can recall when J&B were almost exactly like Carly/Jax are now. Friends, working together on something (in J&B - getting Sonny jealous - Hah!), finding that they genuinely liked one another, charming one another and it building from there. See, I am seeing the same thing with Jax/Carly and Guza wrote the J&B story that hooked so many fans and so he would know how to write CarJax, while still holding onto the history of the characters, giving it that difference that is inherent in the possible triangle ... and he doesn't recycle himself.
The possibilities for CarJax really are endless ....
JenniferH.

Previous Essay | Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"Analysis of the Angles of the Quintet"
By JenniferH. -- posted onSoap Zone General Hospital Message Board

Well, I have been watching General Hospital on and off for several years and have most recently been in an off-state due to the sad demise of ZEm. However, I would catch snippets of the SoapNet GH marathon each Saturday to see what was going on with Zander, Luke and Laura and Jax -- one of my fave daytime characters ever.
I had no clue about Carly and Jax having scenes together, vaguely knew about Carly/Zander scenes, the possible Skye-Jax romance, was very aware of the growing Sexis connection and knew the whole story of S&C, but hated the pairing (pre and after Sarah Brown) because of the way that Sonny has always treated Carly -- and I was a real Sarah Brown-Carly/Jason fan. So that was my vantage point coming into the CarJax scenes at the diner discussing the club. I was intrigued enough with this one scene to have a moment of 'hmm.' And then Carly had more than a few scenes with Zander and those were enjoyable and suprisingly filled with some chemistry and Skye stowed away on Jax's jet and they had some nice moments filled with a bit of chemistry in New Orleans.
Still, I had been more intrigued by the snippet of the CarJax scene that they weren't out of my mind despite the plethora of Skye-Jax and Zander/Carly scenes (at this point, Sexis were in Puerto Rico and it wasn't really Alexis, but Susan Diol playing a character named Alexis). So, the next CarJax scene comes around which is the duo at the club, where they wind up dancing and Skye gets all jealous. And from about that moment on, I was hooked on the idea of CarJax, based entirely on what was on-screen. Now, that was my background on the situation. As for where the characters are and seem to be heading, I'll deal with these relationships (on-screen): Carly/Sonny, Sonny/Alexis, Jax/Skye, Jax/Carly.
Carly and Sonny: Clearly, Carly and Sonny still have deep feelings for each other, but honestly, Carly seems to be moving on more than Sonny. I say that because Sonny is having her followed, and Carly is discussing Sonny in almost a past-tense sort of way. Carly still seems bitter towards Alexis, but she speaks as if it's a foregone conclusion type of situation, not from the point of view of a woman fighting for her man.
And while Sonny, too, thinks it's over, he seems to be lingering on despite the Alexis connection (which I'll get into later) ... which is interesting since he pushed for the divorce. However, I think the tone of Sonny's scenes about Carly play more that way because of Maurice Bernard's performance and I say that based on a long ago Sonny/Brenda scene.
Many have commented on how Sonny has said he respects Carly more now (which IMO isn't saying much, since he pretty much treats her like dog doo-doo, but I digress ...) and THAT is why I think Bernard is playing that note in the Sonny scenes. Back to the S/B scene: Sonny came back briefly right after Jax and Brenda had gotten engaged and went to see him. After making it clear that she had moved on and while she would always love Sonny, she was no longer in love with him and simply didn't want to be with him anymore, Sonny -- who at that point, had held back because he didn't want to cause any more pain -- began to work his Sonny Mojo!
Meaning, he began recalling old times, he talked about dreams of them growing older. He moved closer, he lowered his voice, turned on the intense eyes, and even kissed her. (She didn't respond, merely let him kiss her and then she said 'goodbye' and walked out.) The point is, it seemed that Sonny couldn't deal with a Brenda no longer desperately in love with him and so he sought to return her to that state by rekindling their passion (despite the fact that rekindling that passion would have wound up hurting her again, no doubt). And he seems to be falling into the same (although must less reserved) state with Carly.
Yes, she still loves him, but she is no longer desperately fighting for him. She has, by most outward appearances, accepted that it is over between them. And Bernard seems to be playing Sonny in the same mindset as that S/B scene (again to a lesser degree, because I simply feel it isn't being scripted, but instead the actor's choice -- and a brilliant one at that, by the way). So, I think that is the cause of the continued Sonny feelings so there. As for the duo themselves, based merely on what is on-screen -- it is over between them, love is not enough and they are slowly, in their separate ways, moving on.
Sonny and Alexis: Alexis and Sonny have had bits of interplay for a long time and it has steadily been building, period. Sonny KNOWS that Alexis has feelings for him, and I honestly think that if the call about Carly/Michael/Zander whatever had not come in while they were in Puerto Rico, that something physically romantic (even if just a kiss) would have happened.
Alexis clearly is in love with Sonny. Period. It's lust, it's friendship, it's a connection to him. She is in love with him. She thinks about him constantly, defends him left and right, has fantasies about him, he makes her feel strong (intelligence-wise, which she doesn't need, but still is nice) and weak (emotionally and physically). He steams her up, turns her on, turns her out, drives her wild, calms her down and fills her with yearning. She is in love with him. Right or wrong, it's there, black and white, in living color, unable to deny.
Now Sonny ... Sonny likes Alexis A LOT! He IS attracted to her. He does find her intelligent, attentive, winning and charming. She makes him feel like a big, strong man and he is clearly totally getting off on her obvious affection for him. And bit by bit, as he spends more time with her, his feelings are beginning to grow.
As much as I intensely dislike the Sonny character (and I do -- nothing against Bernard, he's wonderful -- I just despise the character) and have never, ever liked any of his romances, this possible one with Alexis is the first one I can really see working, for two simple reasons:
1.) He genuinely likes her as a person, as a friend.
2.) He genuinely respects her.
Everything else: the attraction, the deeper feelings are coming slowly, but surely (PR WAS a romantic getaway, there is simply no other way of looking at it, none whatsoever) and he will very likely have with Alexis everything that he had with Brenda/Carly, but (and this is a biggie) PLUS the respect/friendship factor that was alien to the relationships with the former and current (I guess) 'love of his life.'
And frankly, Alexis falling against the door outside Carly's cottage after the little talk-to with her, and inside her own penthouse after Sonny called her a great friend, made it clear -- romance is on it's way. Soaps do NOT so clearly, obviously telegraph scenes like that without intent.
Now, I COULD see a definite Carly/Sonny reunion in the next few months, with Sonny's attitude (re: the whole 'she must desperately want me' thing) and Carly's still-love for him, but I don't believe it will last past May because, it is too late for them, too much water under the bridge and both will realize that once they truly try again. Plus, Sonny IS falling for Alexis and that will be between a chance for Sonny and Carly. And finally, by March, Carly will have spent loads of time with Jax, the club will open (going with what we're seeing and hearing on screen) and the (I presume) success of it will bring those two even closer. (More of CarJax later.)
Skye and Jax: This is gonna be short, because it's so bottom-line. I'm confused. I knew that a Skye-Jax connection was in the works, but judging by what I've seen on screen, it sure looks as if it's not a romance that is being set-up, but a vengeful vendetta.
Skye wants Jax -- I do not, for a second, believe she is in love with him. She is instead very much in love with the IDEA of being in love with him and he with her. A perfect Prince Charming, rich, handsome (sigh, gorgeous), sweet, wonderful who treats her well (something she isn't used to it) is exactly what SHOULD make her happy. But if she ever were to actually get Jax, I honestly think she would be bored silly. It's the chase and the idea that she is in love with completely. On the GH canvas, there are only two men I could remotely see able to keep her interested: AJ (alas, they're related) and Sonny ... I thought that in their first scenes. Looks, temperment, attitude -- those two would fit like hand in glove. As for Jax, the guy thinks she has an inner sweetness that she hides, and that she is a smart, go-getter, but that is it. He just ain't interested at all. I just have seen not one iota of a sign at ALL that Jasper Jacks feels anything else for Skye. Nada. It just ain't there.
So, the storyline set-up -- based on the Skye seeing, overhearing the CarJax dance, talk, confronting Carly, being all pissy to Jax about it, and now basically dissing her to spend time with Carly -- seems to be that of a growing romance between Carly/Jax with Skye set out to get at Carly for stealing her 'dream.' And in this way, we could also get a Skye/Sonny connection as the two work to get back at them. That's just the way it looks: Not a love story for Skye/Jax, but the tale of a bitter, woman scorned ... who wasn't really ever scorned at all.
Finally, CarJax: Carly is more free, fresher, lighter and all-around happier with Jax.
She relaxes him, eases him, and he is able to play the Knight in Shining Armor role (which he loves so), but in a supporting way, much like he did in the 2nd phase of his relationship with Brenda: the part of his relationship that worked out best with her (well, before she drove off of a cliff with her insane mother, but that had nothing to do with Jax).
On-screen, these two seem to be slowly, moving towards one another in a perfect orbit. They began as sorta-enemies, due to their other relations on the show, became grudging, 'I don't hate you, but I still dislike you' acquaintances, and then business partners and now they are becoming friends. And the way she lights up around him and he her, it would make all the sense in the world, for them someday to become something more ... much more.
JenniferH.

Previous Essay | Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"Let's Talk About What's On Screen - CarJax and Sonny &Carly" {Excerpts}
By Terri -- posted on Soap Zone General Hospital Message Board

Let's talk about what's happening on screen, and what story is being told. I'm not interested in what actor said what. Or who supposedly has inside sources, and what those sources supposedly said would happen in three-six months. I wanna talk about what's happening on the screen right now, and has been for the last few weeks. And get people's honest, agenda free (is that even possible any more?) opinions. Specifically about Jax & Carly, Sonny & Alexis, and Sonny & Carly.
Jax & Carly (with a side of Skye thrown in):
I can't be the only person who notices the chemistry between Carly and Jax. Beyond that, storyline wise, these two are becoming closer with every scene they share. It began with Carly falling into Jax's arms after a run in with Sonny and Alexis. She was crying, but she quickly pulled herself together, and threw up her infamous wall of defenses. Then everything changed the day that Carly came to see him with her business proposition. If you remember, Skye was in his place, basically begging for his assistance with ELQ and sticking it to Sonny. He had agreed to help her, when Carly came knocking on his door. He dismissed Skye immediately, not even knowing what Carly wanted. Carly won him over that day. Her passion for her dreams is infectious, and Jax actually lets his guard down with her more and more.
We all know Jax has a hero complex. He's infamous for saving damsels in distress. But the thing is, Carly doesn't need to be saved. She's saving herself. She rejects Jax's white knight routine, while Skye eats it up. The results? Jax seems to be more and more impressed and intrigued with Carly after every meeting. Contrast the different ways he sealed his deals with Carly and Skye. With Skye, he was all business when she came to his door today. He signed the papers, and had no further use for her. He reminded her that he was not going to be heavily involved in ELQ, and that he had given all the input he felt was needed. Sure, he agreed to stick around for a day, but that was because Skye appealed to his business nature. But he didn't seem all that interested in ordering room service and celebrating, as Skye kept suggesting. Meanwhile, he arranged a celebration for Carly. He presented her with a candlelit dinner and the gift of the zoning commission signing off on her club. And then there was the hugging, and previously, the dancing.
He's much more touchy feely with Carly. He took things to a personal level with her, while trying to keep things on a business level with Skye. Carly was the one to convince Jax to stick around. And while I may not agree with he's the only she listens to, I will say that he does get her to think about things more. He challenges her, but doesn't condescend, something he does routinely with Skye. He's never dismissive or rude to Carly. Their scenes are filled with an equal mix of laughter and business. And they are definitely getting to know each other without intending to, while Skye remains out in the cold.
This looks to me like they are laying the groundwork for a future romance between Jax and Carly. She lights up his otherwise dreary life, and he's beginning to appreciate her more and more. Something definitely seems like it's in the works here.
Sonny and Carly:
I am not a Sonny and Carly fan. But it is beyond clear that these two are still in love with each other. But the story as of late has been that, for them, at this point, that love is not enough. Something that they both are trying to adjust to. Their scenes now are more focused on the Michael aspect, and more recently, Mike. It's obvious they still care about each other, but each are turning to others for their emotional support. Sonny has been turning to Alexis for weeks, meanwhile Carly has been finding an inner strength that she temporarily forgot she had. And Sonny is finally learning to respect her. But I don't see a romantic reunion in their immediate future. Not based on what's on screen.
Terri

Previous Essay | Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"I am (a ''Sudden'' Fan of This Carly) Starting with the Club"
By Shelby Miller -- posted on Soap Zone General Hospital Message Board

When Jax opened his door, she said ''good morning'' and walked in, taking off her coat, a mortified Skye took a walk. I was SO glad to see Skye leave and Carly there. As Lexifan said in another thread, Jax/Ingo Rademacher just looks faintly nauseous and mortified in scenes with Skye, like he really is sick to his stomach; that isn't an attractive on-screen vibration. So when Carly blew in the door, it was like oh THANK you. And then it turned out they had genuine chemistry. That scene, and every scene that followed. Better than her with Zander.
Anyhow, if she didn't have chemistry with Jax I'd just look forward to whatever complication was gonna happen with Zander but still think she was basically a waste of space. (this Carly, I mean). But the way I feel now is, General Hospital didn't do Jaxis, they didn't do V&Jax, and they better not blow it a third time. I don't want to see PRETENDING two characters have chemistry. Whenever characters start to talk their great love to death (and yeah, I DO mean Sonny & Carly) and TALK how fabulous someone is, lots of times I think, re: the show ''And WHO are you trying to convince?''
I think they can build the Carly/Jax relationship just by doing it, not selling it. The chemistry is there, so they don't have to ''create'' chemistry or do ''insta-chemistry''. They can just go ahead and continue to give them history and a relationship and the rest will take care of itself.
Shelby Miller

Previous Essay | Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"Yep. There is still the ''Big Daddy'' approves vibe, with Jax as the GOOD daddy and Sonny as the BAD daddy, and it gets on my nerves, but Ingo Rademacher pulls it off without seeming as if he's trying to control her or being too macho.
I also think we WILL get Carjax. Although here on SoapZone, it can seem as if the world revolves around other things, General Hospital is paying Rademacher lots of money and they paid it to him to be a romantic lead. It is all based on the success (and ratings spike) of his last romantic arc with Brenda. And so far, they haven't found someone to click with him. They refused to do Alexis. I don't know about you, but Skye and Jax isn't a winner to me. Courtney - I don't see that working (we'll see next week, I guess). Stylistically and otherwise, I don't see them as a pair. And my GUESS is if I'm right, GH will see that as well when they are on air.
So, they have this big expensive leading man, and they have this chick on the show who looks fabulous with him, who they are trying to redeem somewhat, who they are trying to sell as almost a ''new'' character, clicks with him like crazy. I think this is going to be another ''organic'' pairing where they first hooked them up for chemistry test and plot purposes, and then saw they did certain things well (they connected), so they wrote that into their next set of scenes, and then built on a bit more in the next set of scenes, and before they know it, they have something there. And they won't let go of it because it works, and because they are paying Rademacher tons of money to be a romantic lead, and she brings that out in him and helps it work.
Shelby Miller

Previous Essay | Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"I'm Really Enjoying This So Far"
By Shelby Miller -- posted on Soap Zone General Hospital Message Board

I love the way [Carly and Jax] are around each other, so far I think it's brought out both of their strengths. Jax had been boring to me ever since the Sonny/Brenda/Jax triangle got out of control, although I'll admit that I was a Jax/V fan. *sniff.* Jax is interesting as a business man, and even more interesting as he's trying to figure out exactly who his partner is. I won't deny that I was initially excited about Carly's involvement in Deception, before any scenes were aired. But that quickly devolved into Carly and Laura cat fights and I lost interest. Laura was nothing but patronizing about Carly's ideas, and I can't say that I thought Carly acted well all the time either.
So far, this club seems to have brought out what I was hoping Deception would have. Carly has vision and creativity, and when she's determined nothing will stop her. But what she's always needed, is someone with experience that would work with her. Someone that would listen to her, and give her the input she needs. Friday's scenes were perfect. Carly went off in typical Carly style, she's not going to become a polished businesswoman overnight. But what I loved about the scenes was that Jax really listened to what she said. Rather than reacting to the way she went about it, he gave her feedback on what worked. I could have kissed him myself.
I see a lot of potential between these two, and I wouldn't mind a romantic involvement down the road . Right now I'm a bit gunshy of a Sonny/Carly/Jax triangle, I really don't know that I want to see that. For now, I've definitely asked Santa for more scenes between Carly and Jax, simply because they make me smile.
Shelby Miller

Previous Essay | Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction

"Why CarJax?"
By JenniferH. -- posted on Carly & Jax = Fusion Main Discussion Forum Message Board

It's odd because I generally intensely dislike the idea of a recast, and I was very, very fond of Sarah Brown, however, I've found myself liking Tamara Braun. Of course, that could be because I pined for Carly/Jason and never, ever bought that Carly would fall for a man who treated her as horribly and terribly and cruelly as Sonny did (but then I've never gotten the Sonny attraction at all. Nothing wrong with Maurice Bernard -- I loved him on AMC, loved Nico and Julie -- just can't stand the character of Sonny, but anyhoo, I digress ...). And after that atrociously long sentence, let me get to my point: By the time, Braun came on board, I didn't feel like I was watching MY Carly anymore and so maybe that is partly why it worked.
Now, as for Jax, I have been a big fan of this character almost from day one. I LOVED him with Brenda, adore the idea of Jaxis, was eh'ed by Jax/Chloe and could live with Jax/Skye (but they are pushing it waaaaaaay too hard), but Jax and Carly ... so many reasons I can see these two together.

First and foremost, Ingo Rademacher and Braun have excellent chemistry. They simply shine in scenes together. They have a comfortable, easy-going flow that just permeates every scene. There seems more life in their scenes and a sweet, subtle magic plays about them. I haven't seen the like since Rademacher shared the screen with Vanessa Marcil. And their impromptu dance at the warehouse had me smiling in a way that GH hasn't done since Emily and Zander had their little pixie stix fight at the train station. I am surprised to find how endearing and intriguing I already find them.

Let's face it - one of the most exciting aspects of the Jax/Brenda/Sonny story wasn't necessarily the Jax/Brenda equation or the Brenda/Sonny equation ... but instead, it was the Sonny/Jax interaction. And these two still have great onscreen chemistry together. Imagine the fireworks should Jax steal ANOTHER love of Sonny's.

I like Carly -- I always have and she has never ONCE had a man treat her truly and honestly well. And Jax almost always has done that one thing beautifully.

I do believe that Lady Jane would get a hoot out of Carly.
Alas, it looks as if they are going full-force with the force-fed Jax/Skye and Sonny&Carly are reaching a reunion stage, but still I'll hold on to the hope that CarJax ARE partners and we have them in scenes at least until March. Just hoping there will be more in the weeks and months to come.
JenniferH.

Next Essay | Words Inspired By ... | Essays | Fan Fiction
